For all you advanced users..
Here are two examples of ASP.NET code you can use on your ".aspx" pages to call banners from the ASP 3.0 version of ASPBaner Unlimited V8
This code is not supported... and you of course must change things accordingly like the variable names and zone numbers to match the zone you want to call banners from as well as the url.

cwilliams38226.6523263889, Okay, I'm going nuts trying to find that settings screen.
I've got a dedicated server that I connect to using "Remote Desktop
Connection" so it looks like a regular Windows desktop. It's running
Windows Server 2003.
There's a program called "IIS Manager" but I've looked at all the
options for all the different sections and I don't find anything that
looks even remotely like that screen. And, of course, Windows
Help is no help at all.
What program do I run to get to that configuration screen?
Thanks,
Robert Gidley
,
This is great documentaion for windows script 5.6 in windows chm file format for jscript and vbscript.
We use server side vbscript in all our our ASP 3.0 applications so this info can be a lot of help.

cwilliams38401.6321990741, Good Evening,
I have been trying to log into my site using the protected pages comments you have in support. I have copied the code in the ASPprotect 7 guide.
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
and pasted it in my page, set the the IIS to open this page and the page will not open it and the page will not open and the error is
Error Type: Active Server Pages, ASP 0126 (0x80004005) The include file 'check_user_inc.asp' was not found. /olem/reldt/introduction.asp, line 3
When I remove the two lines of code everything goes normally.
I have aspprotect in its own directory in the website. I have read the installation several times and I am afraid I am missing something blatently obvious so I really appreciate you thoughts.
I am presently using redirects. I like not haveing to use them as your comments have suggested. I have pulled all that code from the pages I desire to protect during this test.
I have three test users in my database - 1 administrator
Any suggestions?
Thanks and best regards
, glad it is working now
sorry ya had trouble. cwilliams38418.6886342593, After taking another look at this and trying your suggestions without success, it appears that in Windows 2003 server it is nearly impossible to remove the READ ONLY attribute from the _database folder. I'm wonder if this could the cause?
Thanks , say ?
How do you like LiveSTATS.xsp V7 ?
Looks pretty sweet but the pricing is just too much for me to justify as I am very happy with smarterstats and I host a lot of sites now.
I used to use Livestats 5 back in the day when we had a 50 domain license where I worked and hosted my sites. I liked it a lot then I tried the version 6.2 that they had for a while and hated it. Version 5 still runs well on 2003 server but it has such outdated search engine information that it isnt worth using. cwilliams38324.8862847222, at this point I would say install a fresh untouched copy in the web in a different directory and lets see if it acts weird from scratch.. the we can go from there.. I dont know what is going on , and the permissions, how exactly were they set ? I find a lot of customers think they are setting permissions correctly when they really are not. That's why I wrote that long article on the subject.
As you probably know a data connection is a very low level thing. It is the foundation of any ASP application that communicates with a database. Unfortunatly it sometimes takes a while to get the hang of setting them up without issue.
Everything must be perfect.. the ODBC drivers must be up to date, folder permission are critical, sometimes you must use a new version of the access database.. etc etc etc The errors and things that happen when all these things are not perfect and not helpful as you have found out.
I would suggest you download and get ASPTest from CJWSoft running before you go any further. It is designed to be as simple as possible and helps get a hang of the database setup process. , It's MS Access, Version 7 (the Full one).
Anyway, I had inadvertently changed the user_id field type to "number". When I changed it back to "autonumber", everything went back to normal.
Thanks you very much for your quick reply and sorry to have bothered you. , I have activated both activity and log files. The directories exist on my server and don't give any errors.
When I check the activity tab, some times there are a number of items in it. Other times, there is only my login info. From what I can see, it is supposed to show the last 50 items of activity at all times. Am I missing something?
Also, when I click on the log file tab, there is no file or information to see. Is there something I need to do beyond activating it in the settings area and making sure the directory has write permissions?
Thanks. , well, I think John just told you what the deal is. He knows more about ASP.NET than anyone else I know.
If you are going to run a non-standard setup then you are going to have big problems like you are having. , One last thing..
This is bad
http://www.bones.myftpsite.net/rfamilystuff/pictures/
there are .asp files in there people can run that you dont want people running..
u should delete the asp files in there or turn off directory listing...
take care,
CJW , sounds like trouble with the SQL database.
Did you create it using the SQL scripts we provide as that is extremely important ? ,
The only reason no one else
asked this many questions is possibly because they didnt NEED the functions i
am TRYING to do.
We offer tech support for
installation of the base application purchased in it's native form.
In other words were not planning on spending weeks holding your hand and
teaching you how to build your application or modify the one you bought. Not
because anyone wants to make it hard on you but because there is a practically infinite
number of things someone could be trying to do and the only way to give you the
exact answer would pretty much involve either writing it for you or having a
look at your code to see what the heck your doing. Sorry but my time isn’t cheap
nor do I have a lot to spare. I already gave you my approach on what to do and
what you should be looking at but obviously you’re not catching on. SO ONCE
AGAIN, PLEASE LOOK AT THE SOURCE CODE AND DECIDE HOW YOU WANT TO HANDLE YOUR
END OF THINGS BASED ON HOW THE APP DOES ITS THING. I really don’t know how I
can be more clear that that. I don’t have a crystal ball that can tell me where
you’re going with your own code, what the final requirements are... what field
you want to add or remove for the database etc. There is a demo up that
everyone can look at and play with so they can get a feel for how the things
behave and look. It’s not my fault your naivety led you to believe you could do
anything with it in ten seconds. I mean if I just add some wings to my car
maybe it will fly, and if you just add a shopping cart and a few products maybe
you can start your own Amazon.com with that software right? Sounds good to me…
It would take me longer to re-write YOUR code
than it would to have LEARNED ASP.NET and made MY OWN.
Well thats one thing we both agree on, I bet it would take you a long
time to rewrite the code when you dont know how to write it in the
first place. By you own admission you dont know enough about what your
doing to be messing
with a .NET app at this point. Maybe you should take your own advice
and LEARN
SOMETHING ABOUT IT. What’s even worse is that application isnt even
complicated, its 101 stuff honestly. One class, thats it! Your not
looking at thousands
and thousands of them that you will have to read and comprehend. If you
can
actually “read” the code we kept it lean and mean and to the point.
Nothing
strange or random, no references to a zillion things all sprinkled here
and
there. Its reads like a book if you know the language. That’s why
developers
buy these apps all the time. Not because they couldn’t write one
themselves,
but because they know their time is valuable as well and for $150 which
is less
than most get paid an hour they couldn’t be bothered. Furthermore we
both spend a lot of time making sure these apps are "dumbed down" so
that the average programmer without a lot of object oriented background
can pick up the coding style tweak it if they need to. Some people do
modify things to suite their needs and
others are
happy with our apps "as is".
Just to recap we already wasted two days yappin about your
jacked up servers and after you went through THREE of them and finally got one
working you said the code was working. Red lights started flashing in my office
by the time you got to the second screwed up machine, but hey weird things
happen so at that point I wasn’t 100% concerned. Technically we could have and
possible should have cut you off there as the policy in place is pretty clear
about us not being your tech support crew when it comes to getting your machine
working properly (especially one we cant even look at). Go check those posts
again both Chris and I were answering your questions and being as helpful as
anyone could possibly expect.
Several more days have been spent answering questions about
how to modify your application and again that’s not our responsibility and we don’t
support modified versions of the software for all the reasons that should be
obvious. No software company does and if I have to explain why that is well this
conversation is beyond hope.
Bottom line is the responsibility to support that
application ends the moment you get it running the way it was shipped. Were
pretty damn decent about going above and beyond and a lot of the time we go
into things we shouldn’t have to. If you have well thought out and specific
questions by all means ask, this isn’t some sort of thanks for your money now
get lost operation. CJWSoft has been around since the beginning of Microsoft’s
entrance into the web application market. We have thousands and thousands of
happy customers because we are developers and enjoy working with other
developers along the way.
You’re not the first N0oB to show up, but you’re the first
one I can think of that ever tried to tell us we didn’t write the apps we sell and essentially
wanted to argue that we don’t know what were talking about. Meanwhile you
should have been done with your thing days and days and days ago, not in here
yapping off and showing your ignorance to the other developers that regularly
browse these forums. You trying to tell me how CafePress works is a joke, I happened
to have been part of the team that worked on the first few revisions of that
site and again you really didn’t even understand what I was getting at in that
last post. LINK TO LOGIN PAGE not link to every protected page on the site.
If you think I am pissed off at you, your wrong. I'm
just irritated with the whining about this and that and rather than
admit your over your head you come back with half baked remarks that
only make sense to you. If you think you can
google
a few terms and come back here talking smack like you’re actually
someone that
knows what you’re talking about your just making a fool of yourself.
You sound like a guy from China trying to tell me how to speak
English... My
advice
is get a few books and start learning or try actually reading up and
listening
to the other bazillion knowledgeable developers out there that do a
great job
posting articles about the subject. You might just learn something and
actually
get your project finished before 2010 and when you do please come back
and
re-read your posts with "enlightened eyes" so you can see what a goofball you are for saying half
of the
things you have said. I am not in the mood to keep helping you get your
project done step by step. I have huge projects of my own going on and
if I thought you could actually provide a descent project specification
I might offer to make the changes for you at a serious discount so you
could go away and everyone would be happy. Problem is I dont get the
feeling you could explain your way out of a paper bag let alone provide
a group of programmer the techinal specs for your project.
Your best bet is to post a link to the start of
this thread at www.AngryCoder.com I'm sure a few of people over there would be more than willing to give you a ton of usefull advice
Google 4GuysFromRolla… a great resource site with example, just
dont come back here telling me those guys/ladies posted things
that dont work either.
Chris has written hundreds of articles on PowerASP, a great
place to start looking as well… www.powerasp.com
I've been spitting out code for longer than I can remeber and I still look
thing up on this site because its LOADED with great info. That happens
to be one of the very first ASP sites that went up on the net so lets
just say he knows a bit or two about the subject.
I'm sure your frusturated but
your pushing your luck
seriously. 38 posts about this subject in a week and your over there
hacking away on your virus infested WaReZ machine which isnt exactally
the ideal development rig. I mean we provide the code and your supposed
to provide at
the least a very basic knowlege of what your doing and a production
grade platform to test it out on. To me thats like buying a
car and then asking how to drive it... then bugging the dealer to teach
you and when you smash the thing complaining because no one told you
that your not supposed to drive into a wall. I have the same policy as
the dealer, show me something wrong with the car from the factory and
we will fix it for you NO QUESTIONS at all with our appoligies, but
really once you take it off the lot what you do with it is your deal
and its not our responsability in the least.
, The redirection at 1st login feature is supposed to work like I explain in this thread.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo385-1.htm
Though what you just said is a bit confusing it sounds like you have some sort of browser problem and it is doing the redirect every single time. ?
I would suggest reseting all your browser settings to normal and making sure cookies are enabled because forms based authentication uses session variables and cookies must be enabled for session variables to work correctly. If not something like this could happen as the redirection at 1st login would happen over and over every time.
So try it on other computers and try with firefox as well as IE. Many people go nuts with their browser settings and way too much stuff blocked which can cuse all sorts of issues. Also some script blocking and firewall software can cause problems so disable all of that when testing.
You may also have created some sort of endless loop. (I really need to know way more information on what you did to know that for sure)
You may also want to consider doing your redirects manually meaning you protect a a page and right after the protection you use regular ASP redirect statements to redirect the user whevever you like based on their session info which is available to easily check immediatly after someone gets through the authentication.
I still stand behind my statements that redirection is not good site design. You really really need to understand and plan your ASP pages as well as have a very good understanding of the session and how all of that works if you use redirection with a password authentication scenario. You should never be redirecting someone to an ".htm" pages except during testing because you wont be able to stop users who are not supposed to go there from going there directly. , All of the fields with the expected paths show the correct file structure, so now I've put them in them in the boxes , thats intertesting.. I have never heard of the concept until now..
I did a search for ASP examples or ASP components that can help with the process and just couldn't find anything about it., That's excellent!
I did learn that parent paths were disabled on my test 2003 server...
But on the hosted server, it looks like parent paths are supported as I change the file location of the language file in the forum common.asp as such, and obviously moved the file as well:
from:
<!--#include file="language_files/language_file_inc.asp" -->
to:
<!--#include file="../language_file_inc.asp" -->
Everything seems to work fine and I thank you very much for you quick response!!!
Ok, time to buy...thanks again!

, Our home page is not showing up gives this error:
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'
Include file not found
/Default.asp, line 246
The include file 'elib/articles/home_feature1.asp' was not found. , it's ok
one step at a time and at each step testing things.. then when you mess something up you can figure it out a lot easier cwilliams38456.1106018519, This article from my old powerasp.com site explains what Server.MapPath is and also why you can't use it to specify the data connection in any of the CJWSoft applications.
Use ASP to determine the Physical Path Of Your Virtual Website
As this article mentions you can still use it to determine the path, but you can't use it in our data connection strings because the data connection page is an include file and server.mappath will report back different paths for the different directories....... meaning it will work in one directory level but not another as the path will be different.
cwilliams38084.7454282407, (Password_Email_Confirmation_Mod) for ASPProtect Version 7.x
This will change the basic registration pages so that the email address and password entered must be confirmed when signing up. This eliminates the auto generated password during signup.
Some may prefer it working this way.

Directions: Back up your existing ASPProtect installation.
Copy the two new files into your "users" folder
"register.asp" "add_new_account.asp"
2005-12-01_182201_Password_Email_Confirmation_Mod.zip , I am trying to find out where I can enter the ttle for the application.
There is a variableor field called App_Name into which it would be good to insert a generic name. Can this be edited?
I have searched high and low but cannot find anything to do with it. , Right, I've done that. My concern is that it will time out again while I'm trying to import the file.
The import/export manager does not show up under the users tab when I log in normally. I have to pull up the page in frontpage and then preview it a browser to get it to show. , The login page sends the user to redirect.asp (which is as follows)
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% If InStr(Session("Groups"),"*1*") Then Response.Redirect("gp01.asp") End If %>
<% If InStr(Session("Groups"),"*2*") Then Response.Redirect("gp02.asp") End If %>
I am not being redirected to gp02.asp if I am a member of group2. Also, we wish users who are part of group 2 and 3 to go to a different page (ie. gp2-3.asp)
Thanks in advance.
, Whein I went by the numbers off of your directions, which work well up to that point, the import would time out.
At that point I tried to import directly into access...and then it hung trying to login.
okay so I've put in a clean database and created a new record for me as admin. , I do not what is going on at this time. It is not a known issue. If is is not working it would seem to be a problem with the application variables on the server possibly and your web.
Perhaps try installing it on a local machine and see if it works for testing sake.
Also.. if your stuck with the black skin you could always just edit the information in the that skins folder to get the app looking the way you want.
That and the header and footer files that comes with the app are what control the look of the system. cwilliams38294.5880208333, Everything is running fine.. I can read ads... reply to them. but when I click sign in or register.. I get a server error.
Any suggestions
Thank You , its a text file you just edit it with notepad.. if ya mess it up ya put an original copy back in
no biggie either way
jump in there..
I just showed ya exactly what to change.. its a no brainer man This is simple source code. It's meant to be edited and hacked.
The only reason I warn you is so you can't blame me later on if it effects something
I am just trying to help
If ya dont like that solution why not just use periods for the first name field.. or a dash or something... then nobody will really see it
or maybe store the company name in the first_name field
seems like clever things to try without changing the code..
good luck... cwilliams38326.870474537, thank you for such a quick response -- It sounds straight forward - so I should be all set. Thanks again., ASPProtect 7 Customization Service
As some people seem to have a lot of trouble editing ASP code I am currently willing to consider doing ASP Programming custimization work to the registration pages/database as well as the admin area of ASPProtect Version 7.
things like drop down lists, yes/no fields, new database fields, edit screen additions... etc etc
things that might take an ASP novice forever but I could do in reasonable time.
PM me detailed specs on what you want and will then provide a quote if interested. I get paid via PayPal ahead of time and am charging 40/hour for my time which is a discounted rate. (partially since I am so familiar with the application and partially because you have made a purchase from CJWSoft)
So to be very clear...
You tell me exactly what you want in detail, If I agree and you like the price quote, I get paid, I write the code, you get the code, I fix any minor bugs or errors if I made if any, and everyone is happy. That's the deal.
Pain in the ass people or people not willing to spend money for quality work done quickly need not contact me. I get enough of that as it is and my time is valuable. I also may refuse a job if I don't have time or just don't want to do the work involved. Really how well you describe what you want and the intelligence level vibe I get from you has a lot to do with whether I will do the job or not., you can not limit image size using the pure code upload method. Its not possible using a pure asp method that I know of.
You would have to be using one the supported commercial upload components and edit the upload code accordinly to limit upload sizes (you would do this by looking through their documentation and samples) I didnt include any support for upload file size limitations with the supported 3rd party upload components because in my testing I found it problematic with all but aspupload from persits software. (I have example coe for that component I can provide that limits the upload size and seems to do it well) I am sure it could work with safileup and dundas as well but I gave up trying.
As for image resizing.. Image resizing requires the use of one of the supported 3rd party image resizing components. You didnt mention if you are using one or not. If you dont have one available image resizing is just not possible as asp can not do that on its own. , We want to insert a hyperlink i the mesage area when we e-mail users from the Password Admin area. Is ther an easy way to insert the hyperlink so when the user gets the e-mail, they can just click on it and go the the page we want them to?
Thanks,
Andy cwilliams38456.0983101852, I've had an error I saw described here, couldn't figure out what it
was. My SQL statement was being cut off, though a bit differently
because it was created on multiple lines with the amper-underscore
string construction design; my statement had no UPDATE, only started
with the junk screen characters of the encrypted password.
So, from what you said above about the vbNullChar, Chris, it looks like
I've hit the same problem, maybe from an old version (downloaded March
22, 2005). Could I request a copy of the updated logic?
Thanks a lot.
, when I go to that url is seems fairly fast and somewhat normal.. even when I try to log in it pops right back up asking for login info again..
I would check to make sure you are not running anything that might be effecting your web browsing.. software firewalls.. ad blockers.. script blockers... norton internet security.. zone alarm... anything like that
they can all effect a lot of things regarding how web browsers act. , all that docmunetation is online as well right here so you dont really need the chm file http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/info24.htm
the chm format is a windows format that can only be viewed on windows pcs. I do not know why you can not see it. I would do reseach on viewing CHM files on whatever operating system and version you are running because perhaps you are using a mac or linux operating system which can not natively view chm files ?
, no, and none of the ASP based systems I know of can do anything like that.
A zone can only produce 1 banner at a time.
What your are talking about I have mostly only seen done using very complex javascript code available freely on the web if you search. , The way the application ships there are no password confirmation areas anywhere ? Please be more specific as to what you have done and if any mods are involved ?
If you are talking about one of the MODS please realize they are not supported. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo459-1.htm
Even though they are not supported I look them over pretty closely and I know of no issue like you mentioned so I would suggest re-downloading the MOD. Perhaps you got a corrupt download or file. , I had some issues with passwords not working. I cleared them up by
going to the affected user and typing in the desired password manually
on the edit screen. Worked like a champ every time, and I haven't had
to do that for some time now.
