I have been able to successfully edit some text colors, but there seems to be one page that wont change the text color. Inside the users/ folder, the login.asp page, i cant seem to change the text color from ffffff to 000000 so it can be read on my background color. Every page in the script is correct but this one.
Thanks. , I am trying to find out where I can enter the ttle for the application.
There is a variableor field called App_Name into which it would be good to insert a generic name. Can this be edited?
I have searched high and low but cannot find anything to do with it. ,
Chris,
When I set up a test user name it does accept name and passwords and the passwords are encrypted, no problem there.
All I want to do is to restrict access to the protected pages to the members only. Only those users will be accepted and allowed to view.
I have entered all of thier names, address, phone number, email and company in the database, which is still named ASPProtect_access2002.mdb and in the fpdb directory of wwwroot. To get it there I uploaded via FTP. I hope I expained the situation well enough. , still.. its got to be somthing along those lines.. I have seen times when even dbo didnt have full rights to a particular database so permissions should always be manually checked..
The import data routine is most likely the source of the trouble
For troubleshooting sake I would create a fresh installation from scratch using the sql script we provide and a new SQL user. Then see if that works. If it does then try to import your data into that.
There are no other things I can think of doing. Sometimes you just have to start with a clean slate. , Thanks, I figured that out!
I managed to get the gallery running, minimally, on the test server, so now on to the real thing.
Thank you!
- Jason , I have a customer who is asking the following:
... could you make a link from it to our website and is there a way to see what traffic goes from us to them. They are going to pay a commission on sales, however I need to be able to track who views their site...
Wishful thinking or could you add code to track their IP address and display in the report section? Not sure that would be enough to satisfy this request. Suggestions?
Thanks, Lance , Hi,
Sorry, but the way the system works you can not call an individual banner like that. It just not something the system was meant to do.
If you wanted a specific banner to show up at all times you would have to make an individual banner and a zone just for that.
After looking at your site since you have so many banners there I dont know if that is the greatest option for you. It would also put a lot of stress of the Version 7 software because it is not really meant to call so many banners zones at one time on one page.
If you could live with tracking clicks on the home page but not displays I would suggest making banners for the home page in one zone. Then hard coding the banner images into your homepage like you already do but linking to the tracking part of aspbanner instead of where they would usually link to. That way you could at least track clicks and there owuld be no performance issues.
for example.. one of the images might link to http://www.poconocommuter.com/aspbanner/banner_redirect.asp? Banner_ID=4
which would track clicks for you.. and then send then wherever they are supposed to go
, As I already had directories in my web site root called 'images' and 'templates' I loaded the files into a sub directory called 'aspprotect' as suggested in the installation guide where it say 'either way it really doesn't matter'.
However, it does.
The scripts are often looking for a file which it can't find because the /aspprotect part of the path is missing. Example:
I can't find a way of editing all the scripts that need changing. I'm assuming it would be easier to change my site to avoid using subdirectories used by aspprotect and reinstalling from scratch straight into the root directory.
Anyone with any suggestions?
Many thanks
Ian , The default database password is "temp"
This is noted in the docs. You can also see the current password by looking at your connection string. cwilliams38176.7913888889, ummm.. ok.. Then this doesnt make sense. On two out of the three machines I have in house here, the images do not show up. They only show up on the server machine. I am using the constant url on all three machines. www.rfamilystuff.com Does it show up on your?
, It runs on either... I used IIS
I dont remember much about installing it except it went pretty smoothly / no issues, ya, thats basically what I was gonna do..
BTW.. if that other app is going crazy with an access database it could be the cause of all the slowdown with ASPProtect... what happens there is it is using so much database driver time that it robs other things that also access a database... so basically ASPProtect isn't asking its database for much but your other application and database are cripping that part of the system and causing it to run like crapola
If your other app is using a system dsn try changing it to use a dsn-less connection... it might actually help , I checked with our web hosting company and CDOSYS is installed and properly registered on the Windows 2003 Server our site resides on.
How do I go about changing the ASPProtect code to use CDOSYS?
Please advise.
, thanks... a review at aspin is always appretiated ...no one ever seems to do a review and they help me out a lot.. the aspprotect admin area header has a link
thanks... ,
I am having difficulty properly securing pdf's using 7.x
I used the example file and have been able to secure images and word
docs, but the pdf's give users the error "There was an error opening
this document. The file cannot be found."
The kicker -- it works fine on my computer, just not anyone else's. I
put a link up to the same file without any security and that works on
everyone's computer. The word file links and redirects work too. I've
tried my log-in on other computers, then attempting to download the pdf
and that doesn't work.
The client wants a site where users must register before downloading
pdf's. They should be able to view all the pages without registering.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. But I can't complete the site until this issue is resolved.
Help appreciated.
, any asp code that accesses an access database, writes to text files, or allows for picture uploading will need permissions set on certain directories
every application out there is going to need permissions set at some point
its just a fact.. and if your hosting company does not give you a way to manage permissions or have it done when you ask they do not know what they are doing and they are not supporting your asp hosting needs
see my article for more info on the whole process http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo136-1.htm the part newar the bottom talks about hosting companies , yes. what you are talking about has to do with norton ad blocking software.. it blocks images or paths that have the word "ad" in them.. and you see red x's where images should be on web sites.. usually
it is different then what this thread initially mentions which has to do with a code/server issue with the application variables. , We can't seem to find the purchase emails for this install of ASPProtect.
It would have been in May 2004 for NetOptions LLC or CareerMatrix.com
We noticed it should have been v6 of ASPProtect.
Can you resend the download links? , Here is the complete page with the error message:
============================================================ ===
Unspecified error
This means there is most likely a problem with the "ConnectionString" info that you specified.
If you are using a DSN-Less Connection with MSACCESS.
Check that the physical path to the database has been specified correctly. It has to be perfect and correct. It cannot be specified using "http://" or by using "server.mappath". It has to be specified like the following example.
ConnectionString = "DBQ=C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\advpass_pro\_database\passwords.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=admin;PASSWORD=Xpass"
If this is running on an NT server or Win2000 Server make sure that permissions have been set on the database. Only the server admins can do this. If you are not the admin you will have to ask for this to be done.
If you are using a System DSN
It is not set up correctly. Again, make sure the permissions have been set for the database and that the system DSN has been set up correctly by the server admins.

I am the only one on the site since I just transferred the files and in the testing phase. It is using an MSAccess DB
, O.K. , I register myself as a user. No problem, Iget an e-mail saying account active. No problem. I click the link in the e-mail. No problem. I click sign in and get this message. Big problem!!
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0411'

/aspprotect/config_inc.asp, line 15 Dim Address_Required,CDONTS_Installed,City_Required,Registration _Type,VerifyURL,Log_Off_Page ----^ cwilliams38456.0969444444, I have been using this solution for over a year now and think its great, however I recently logged on to add a banner and when I clciked on the link that opens a window, displaying all the gifs in the directory../images/banners/, now images showed up, however they do exist in that directory.
I recently upgraded my computer and am now using windows XP...could that be the problem?
Thanks
, Editing using Visual Studio.NET
Here are directions for editing the application using Visual Studio.NET 2002 or 2003 version.. either should work
Some of you are wondering why I didnt just give you the project files. It is best you go through this process and really understand what is going on. Also, I dont use VS 2002 so I wouldnt be able to give you project files that would work with that. Not to mention there is 100% chance my prject files wouldn't work for you anyway because of path differences and other things.
Anyway.. on with the instructions...
1st.. make sure IIS, ASP.NET, .NET Framework, and Visual Studio.NET are all installed correctly and up to date.
Open Visual Studio.NET
File - New Project
Select a New Visual Basic ASP.NET web application.
give the new web to be created a name.. I called mine "aspprotectdotnet"

Hit Ok..
Now. once the project opens up we need to delete a few things in the solution explorer window.
So delete "webform1.aspx" , "deletestyles.css", "Global.asax", "AssemblyInfo.vb", and "web.config"
Basically all the files under the project...
Now... you should have the aspprotect.net files unzipped somewhere on you hard drive...
open that folder and select all the files and folders like so

Now drag those selected files and folders to the solution explorer window of Visual Studio.NET right on to the name of the web. In my case "aspprotectdotnet"
It might say this folder already contains a folder names Bins.. just tell it to copy over and continue on any prompts like that.
You'll notice your project is now populated.
Open up the references tab in the solution explorer window as we need to add some references to the dlls in the bin folder of this project. This is needed so the compile process and function correctly.
Right click on references.. click add reference Then browse....browse on your hard drive to the location of the new web and the bin folder within it.
In my case... "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectnet\bin"
Choose "aspprotectlicense.dll"
Hit open...
Now do the same thing again until you have added all the dlls in that bin folder to the references..
Now.. click add-references again and this time choose "system.management" from the choices in the .NET tab
Once all of that is done your references should look like this

Now in the Visual Studio.NET menu system up top..
Choose Build - Build Solution
If you did everything right you will see something like this in the build window
------ Build started: Project: aspprotectdotnet, Configuration: Debug .NET ------
Preparing resources... Updating references... Performing main compilation... Building satellite assemblies...
---------------------- Done ----------------------
Build: 1 succeeded, 0 failed, 0 skipped
You now have the visual studio side of things all set up.
To make the project actually run we now have to set some permissions and edit the web.config file.
Using windows explorer browse to the web the app is in. Right click on the "_database" folder and give that folder and all the child folders within it. Modify permissions for both the Anonymous webserver account and the ASPNET account. These accounts might not show up until you dig into the advanced tab and click find now to show all the accounts on the machine.
Permissions screen looks like this...

Once that is done go back the solution explorer window in visual studio.
Open the docs folder.. right click on "sysdiag.aspx" and choose view in browser.
It should complie the project again.. and then run that page in either the internal or external browser depending on how you have that set up.
That page will report back path information. "BTW.. for security reasons this page should be removed from any production server after installation is complete.. this is very important" In my case it looks like this.
Probabale AppRootPhysicalPath c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet
Probabale AppRootUrlPath http://localhost/aspprotectdotnet
Probabale Path to Access Database c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet\_database\aspprotectnet2 002.mdb
Now we need to edit the web.config file... your going to need to know some of the path information above.
In solution explorer double click on web.config.
Now edit the AppRootPhysicalPath, AppRootUrlPath, and CN keys accordingly.
In my case they will look like this.
<!-- PATHS USED BY THE SYSTEM --> <add key="AppRootPhysicalPath" value="c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet" /> <add key="AppRootUrlPath" value="http://localhost/aspprotectdotnet" />
<!-- MICROSOFT ACCESS KEY --> <add key="Cn" value="Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq= c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet\_database\aspprotectnet2 002.mdb;Uid=admin;Pwd=" />
Now.. because our web is really not in the root of our virtual directory which starts at "inetpub/wwwroot" we need to edit another tag in this file.
Find the forms tag near the bottom.
<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" />
Change it to say this
<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectdotnet/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" />
Notice tha part in bold that we added.
Now, you may also want to check the temp license key info while you are in that file and make sure it is not expired but I am not going to get into that here.
Now save and close that file and do a compile again.
In solution explorer open up the "aspprotectadmin" folder. Right click on default.aspx and click browse
You should see the login prompt in your web browser..
Log in with
admin temp
all lower case
You should see the users screen of the application,
Click on the system info tab up in the top left... make sure all those paths are correct and save it.
Go to the settings page of the admin area. Make sure all those paths/settings are correct and save it.
Congratulations... you just set up a visual studio web project from scratch and our now ready to edit and compile an advanced web application.
From here on your on your own, but feel free to ask questions in the forums as you will probably get help from myself or others who own the software.
One last thing... because we are not in the true root of the web on the development machine the examples in the example folder will need the reference to the "protectpage.ascx" file modified before they will work
It will need to go from
Src="/protectpage.ascx"
to
Src="/aspprotectdotnet/protectpage.ascx"
If this app was installed in the true root of a domain on a real webserver.. you would not have to edit the forms tag in the web config file or change the paths in the examples as they would be correct the way they came , ok, that is what you are suppose to do... not having that path info set can cause all sorts of trouble., Sorry, I can not provide a date.. I am last person that is organized enough to give any sort of release date on anything.
Could be next week, could be 2 years from now. I made two add-ons this week and they came out of no where. I had no plans to make them. etc etc.. they just happened.
If I told you 2 months from now I know it would not be done and you would be disappopinted so I am not saying anything. I will say if it turns out to be anything complex it will not be a free mod or it will be a feature of a new version., Thanks very much for the tip. I'm a beginner with all this stuff so forgive me for the inate stupidity!
By the way, I think the system is great and I am very pleased my purchase. cwilliams38317.5552662037, Hello,
In that version is is not easy to change the values as they were not intended to be edited. You would have to dig through quite a lot of code as those values are hardcoded in quite a few pages. Probably at least 10 or more.
In the pro version there are variables you can change that very easily as that is intended to be easily changed in that version. , so, on control_pics.asp where you see
<% =TempDesc %>
you could try doing this instead
<% =Replace(TempDesc," ","") %>
, I am still a little confused... one thing I would like to mention is that the passwords in the aspprotect database are encrypted... meaning you cant just add a password to the user database by hand because it wont be the encrypted value and wont work.
It is something the application takes care of when you add a user via the web based interface.
You can however still add users manaully or with careful import/exporting... but you will have to use the existing password conversion technique which is covered at the end of our upgrade instructions in these forums. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo174-1.htm
Basically you want to add a field to the "ASPP_Users" table called "Old_Password" and that is where you enter the password in plain text. Then after you are finished adding users to the database manually you do this.
You want to run a special page via the browser.
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/convert_to_encrypted.asp
Which will convert the passwords to the encrypted value for you. See the bottom of this thread for all the info on that. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo174-1.htm , I just purchased the software and it looks great however, I have been fighting for 4 hours trying to get a protected page to do what it is supposed to.
I was trying the examples you provided and they worked fine, then I would use the code at the top of my pages with no luck.
When I installed the software, I used an FTP package as I have found lately that anything with a database gets all messed up when I publish with FP.
On a whim, I took the page I was publishing in FP and published the same page with my FTP program. It worked! What I can't figure out is what FP does to the files to screw them up so they won't function. Is there a setting in FP that I have to change to get it to work? The files look the same, but they are different sizes when I overwrite them with FTP.
Any ideas? I don't want to have to publish my entire site with FTP as it is a FP template site.
Thanks,
Dave , Does ASPprotect support Paypal's Website Payments Pro option, where a user can use a credit card directly on a web site, without passing to paypal.com?
Nick , sorry,
there is not.. it gets really complicated its practically a miracle it does what it does due to the nature of the web
perhaps with some modications it could do mroe but the current version pretty much does what it does
, recent activity infomation is temporary and mantains itself per application start up.. when the web application restarts for whatever reason the info is reset
a reboot, an iisreset on the server, application pool restarts, etc etc this is done because if that info was saved in the database your database would get huge real quick
logfiles however do not do that and are permanent , For some odd reason, the the export path has two backslashes (\\) at the end, thus generating an error each time I try to export. For example
C:\path\website\protect\data\export\\
This appears toward the bottom of the import_export_manager.asp page and is called by =ExportDirectory.
I checked under settings tab, no path ends with a "\". Any idea where else I need to look?

, Login failed for user 'aspgallery'.
Okay, shouldn't this be trying to use aspgalleryuser?
Lance
cwilliams38325.8848263889, Gotcha.
Can you set an expiration date on a subscription?
Thanks,
Jess , I do not really know a lot about but it is basically code that lets you specify however many number of images and links... and then display a certain number of them at once.
You'd have to search google for it.. there are 1000 of sites that offer free javascript code and that is where you find scripts like that.
You could certainly set up all the images and links for each banner in aspbanner but if you used them with code like that you be limited to tracking clicks on banners. Tracking page impressions would not be possible because the javascript would be handling what images get displayed at any given time. Basically each link for each image would be going through aspbanners tracking url feeding it the banner id and therefore tracking the click and sending the user to the desirec URL.
Regardless, it is not something I would support. You would have to sort it out as it is nothing ASPBanner was designed to do and not something I want to deal with because client side javascript code is not something I am NOT very good with. , when you get back to work.. your "redirect.asp" needs the password include file at the top of it.. or that wont work either..
and of course those pages you send people to all need to be repaired , I down loaded your latest ASPProtect.NET_v1.4 and now when i try to get in the admin area it won't let me in. The admin box is selected in the database under the admin user and i can update my user information (password and Address, not username). Is there something that was changed on this version or is it more likely user error on my part? What do you think i should try first?, Chris,
Ok new puzzle . I have now managed to gonfigure it to get the admin screen and update members. All excellent news. Seems to work a treat.
But have used the code you give in your getting started guide to add at
the very top of an aspx page to be protected. The path is configured
correctly I am sure. the aspx file is in the root, the protect program
is in a folder now configured as an application (hence the steps
forward to get to the admin screens) on the root, so address should be
foldrname//protectpage.ascx.
Proble when I load that aspx page is as above. The exact same config error ,oww!
I am sure its a setting on my server now, but I dont know what to ask for, Any ideas...
So close now!
Andy
, The folder named Pictures permissions are set to your specs. It has jpg's that were uploaded per the aspphotogal instructions. But, the error message still appears and I am unable to access using aspphotogal.,
