Hello,
I have ASPprotect 7 installed on my remote server. I am able to go to the examples/default.asp page and login in without any difficulties. If I copy the code from that page and paste it in a new page called the same thing but in a different folder, I get this error; (Keep in mind that this is essentially the same exact page in a different location of the website)
Error Type:
Active Server Pages, ASP 0126 (0x80004005)
The include file '../../check_user_inc.asp' was not found.
/aspprotect/Pages/default.asp, line 3
I get the same error if I paste the "protection code" I have generated into the top of a current (.asp) page in my site.
Basically, the only pages that work are the ones that came with the program as examples. Thats great, but now I need to make it work for my pages. Any thoughts?
, If you run asplistings auto in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.
And you run your other version of ASPListiings in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.
You will have zero major changes to make to anything... other than what you did above..
But remember theyare the same app and share a lot of thing including sessions and application variables.. that is why if they are installed in the same domain each one needs its own application set in the IIS console so they run seperately of one another. cwilliams38312.5189814815,
well, for now you have to watch the logs. What your talking about would take up a lot of server resources and database space to keep track of. Maybe some day, but no plans at the moment., Okay thanks, I'll have to consider wether or not to go down the path of the upgrade or cut my losses as the Access cannot handle the pressure

I am successfully using ASP protect on our site. I have one question:
The file Check_user_inc.asp looks a bit bland as I can't seem to use the sites Dreamweaver template. If I apply a template to this page, it is duplicated on other pages with this template.
How can I apply a template to this page?

, I am using ASPProtect's password program, which has been very successful, for managing over 1,500 military veterans' memberships at http://www.vspa.com. What I am trying to do now is utilize the "Groups" code, as generated by the Admin page, to prevent members with expired accounts (and non-members) from accessing restricted "members only" .ASP pages they may have bookmarked, or found via web search. The code generated and used is as follows:

When I am logged in the code works perfectly! When I log off and try the URL again, the page appears in its entirety but with a Login box for Username and Login Password at the top of the page. You may view the problem at: http://www.vspa.com/aspprotect/vspa-password-enter.asp .
What I would like to have happen is expired members and non-members would be sent (or Redirected) to a Login page. I do not want the Login password box to merely be inserted above the page that I am trying to keep them from visiting.

In the mean time if I can figure any workaround I will post it here. , Is there an easy way to make this work with reoccurring a monthly or yearly subscription? , If I would like a link on my web page that will take someone to the login page (I would also like this page to contain forgot passord? and register) I am not entirely clear what file to link to to do this. Would it be check_user_inc.asp?

The Include file '../dataconn_inc.asp' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.
When you get an error like this it is because parent paths are disabled on the web server. This is a setting in the IIS console for your website.
If it is not enabled on you server you will have to ask your host to enable parent paths for your website.

Additional Information:
It is enabled by default on IIS4-IIS5 but in IIS6 it is disabled by default.
It is a minor security risk to have enabled and some hosts can be difficult about setting it.
Truth is, if your hosting ASP for customers you need to enable this setting if the customer requests it. Especially since 90% of the ASP applications out there require the setting.
Hosting companies should if they are serious about hosting ASP.
If they won't your only option is to go through all the code and convert the file includes to virtual includes.

The trouble with virtual includes is they are different depending on the layout of your website. (that's why web application developers generally don't use them)
Basically if you are in a sub domain the path for the virtual include is going to be different then if you were in the root.. etc etc
Also.. someone developing on a local machine would need totally different virtual includes on the development server than they would on the live server. Server Side includes are processed before ASP so there is no way to make them SMART, so to speak. Server Side includes are hardcoded and that's that.
In my opinion virtual includes are pretty useless for commercial web based applications... Since you don't know where the customers plan to install the apps.
And YES there are some tricks when designing the applications that make it less of an issue but they are not perfect solutions.
For example...
The virtual include below would work if the application or code was installed in the root

Is that the database directory you are referring to?, You cannot use server mappath in the connecting string of the application. If you want to know why read my article.

Make your connecting string just like in my example.. do not use the oledb connection string either as it will cause other problems.
If you need to find out the path to the mdb file you can use server.mappath to get that info but do not put server mappath in the connecting string. See my article again.
then if the database folder has proper permissions and the path to the mdb file is valid it will work... otherwise you get useless errors, its really that simple.

The banner logic in aspbanner it tweaked for speed and performance.. that sort of thing really wouldn't fit into the current code structure very well. It would slow things down and be a nightmare to code because of the way aspbanner uses ultra fast application variables for the banner rotation. Basically its a feature I didnt incorporate for performance and pricing reasons.
I would suggest making different zones for different conditions.. then surrounding the banner calling code with if else logic so a different baner zone was called under certain conditions.
That way performance would not be effected and you could actually show a different group of banners based on certain conditions.
Sorry, but that is the best advice I can offer at this time.

How is this done? cwilliams38298.5087384259, Has this been resolved ?, I just finished implementing the V7 product on our site and someone made mention that on the profile form where you are asked all your personal and user information there are 2 fields for passwords. The first field uses masking to hide the password as you type it, where the second shows it in clear text.
Now we know that the only people able to see the password are the user and the administrator, but it is playing mind games with my users as they think there is a problem with the application. I am not a programmer (however, learning ASP slowly now!) and am not sure if you did this on purpose or if it is a bug?
If it was done on purpose, can you advise how I can make the confirm password field masked as well to eliminate the unfounded questions!
Thanks , it is an email server/setting issue most likely
your email server probably requires outgoing authentication or something like that and that is why internal emails can be sent to but nothing else

go the the admin area.. you will notice 3 users with level 4 access
1 of them is inactive
then go to the mass email area and pick active and level 4
it will say it is sending email to 2 users which is correct
then go to mass email again and pick level 4 and inactive
it will say it is sending email to 1 user which is correct
choose any status and access level 4 and it will send email to 3 users which is correct
When you do this please realize you can not choose a group as well.
That will cause a problem because you can not choose a group and an access level at the same time.

I have a quick question...when a user signs up I have a drop down menu for Company name and they have a choice of branch selections. Everything works fine but when the info is saved in the database there is some sort of conversion to lower-case...?

In the database (access), some letters are lowercased now...why? anything to do with the period, , or - ?

What's interesting is that if I call either an aspx page or an asp page in the iframe tag, it asks me if I want to open the page, it doesn't display it. I'm using IE6 so there's not problem with the support for the tag.
I'll keep looking to find out what's going on. I think the iframe method might work best.

I have a web directory that lists websites and companies by city. Is it possible to have specific ads shown to the user depending on what city they click on? For example, only ads in New York would be shown to users that have already clicked on that city in my directory.

Basically they seem to have an odd version of it installed and I had to tweak the code a little. I also uploaded the server info page in the admin area to test for it.
Just back up the gallery folder so you have a backup copy of the modified code.
CJW , Interesting.. Yes, the SMTP service is turned on. This is my boogle. If they are both installed, then it should in theory work. But for some reason, it is being subborn and not working., You not getting a blank page.. you getting an error. You just can't see it because it appears you edited the page background to black.

Thanks , I am attempting to have the page dedirect from the group, as some of my users are part of different and multiple groups (they are not structured in access levels, b/c they cannot be part of multiple levels(?)). So I think I need to redirect by group. I am having trouble having this work correctly.
-j , you have to do it like I show above... your not specifying the field name to be searched in the instr function so what you just showed me will not do anything

We use ASP Protect 6.0 and the database is SQL Server. Our hosting company is charging a lot for daily and weekly backups for everything. Which directories/folders do we need to backup daily and weekly incase something happenes to the site and we need to restore and get the password-protected are that works with ASP Protect to get working. , The redirection at 1st login feature is supposed to work like I explain in this thread.

Though what you just said is a bit confusing it sounds like you have some sort of browser problem and it is doing the redirect every single time. ?
I would suggest reseting all your browser settings to normal and making sure cookies are enabled because forms based authentication uses session variables and cookies must be enabled for session variables to work correctly. If not something like this could happen as the redirection at 1st login would happen over and over every time.
So try it on other computers and try with firefox as well as IE. Many people go nuts with their browser settings and way too much stuff blocked which can cuse all sorts of issues. Also some script blocking and firewall software can cause problems so disable all of that when testing.
You may also have created some sort of endless loop. (I really need to know way more information on what you did to know that for sure)
You may also want to consider doing your redirects manually meaning you protect a a page and right after the protection you use regular ASP redirect statements to redirect the user whevever you like based on their session info which is available to easily check immediatly after someone gets through the authentication.
I still stand behind my statements that redirection is not good site design. You really really need to understand and plan your ASP pages as well as have a very good understanding of the session and how all of that works if you use redirection with a password authentication scenario. You should never be redirecting someone to an ".htm" pages except during testing because you wont be able to stop users who are not supposed to go there from going there directly. , Actually, I think I just found my answer...
I will take out the StrToFix = Replace(StrToFix," "," ") bit of code and see what happens...
