Alternate Method to call banners from non ".asp" pages.
<iframe src ="http://localhost/aspbanner/aspbanner/aspbanner_inc.asp?Ban nerZone=4" width="468" height="60" frameborder="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>
Be sure to delete the space in the BannerZone variable above. I am not sure why it is doing that in this post.
You can try calling the banners in an simple iframe like so. This method should work much better than the javascript method because users with javascript turned off will still see the banners. You also will not have any of the limitations the javascript method has. Iframe is now supported by most recent browsers so it is now a good solution. Here is a chart that shows which browser versions support iframe.
Be sure however to edit the height and width values accordingly as that is very important. cwilliams38105.8437384259, ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Operation must use an updateable query.

I am getting this error message when trying to log in as admin or registering a new user. I am using Windows Server 2003 and it is a DOMAIN CONTROLLER.
I have read that there is NO ASPNET account for a domain controller. In its place is the IIS_WPG account. I have given this account and the IUSR account FULL CONTROL.
STILL GETTING AN ERROR. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? ,
thanks... a review at aspin is always appretiated ...no one ever seems to do a review and they help me out a lot.. the aspprotect admin area header has a link
thanks... , that's they way it should be done..
the only other thing would have been to test everything with sql before trying to import any data.. and make sure all was fine at that stage
more info on the errors would be helpful.
Id' also carefully visually compare the SQL tables and fields with the SQL scripts and make sure all field types and settings got set correctly.
Also, make sure the user accessign the database has datareader and datawriter permissions of course. , IMPORTANT UPDATE - READ THIS http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=205& ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1
The 2Checkout Support Pack which is built in to ASPProtect 7 contains all the pre-built scripts you need to implement 2Checkout Payments with ASPProtect. You must be using version 2 of the 2checkout system. They are phasing out version 1 regardless so everyone will be using version 2 very soon if they are not already.
THIS IS NOT INTENDED OR DESIGNED TO USE 2CHECKOUT SUBSCRIPTIONS. (see bottom of this thread for more info on that)
This Support Pack basically gives you an additional signup and registration directory "2checkout_signup" and it should not interfere with any changes or customizations you have made to your ASPProtect setup in general. New users can register in this directory and pay for membership at the same time. Existing users whether active or expired can be sent to this directory where they can lookup their account and buy additional membership time online. You can also assign various Access and Group Levels during signup and you can set up various prices for various amounts of time as well. This is a real-time setup for the most part. As soon as a user pays via 2Checkout your system is updated and they will have access.
The 2checkout pack is NEW.. and was released on March 19, 2005. If you don't have it and would like it please just ask.
To start using this edit the "2checkout_signup/2checkout_config_inc.asp" file
You will be entering your 2Checkout Account number in that file as well as the URL you want a user to go to after payment. It is all commented in that file. (There is also a testing variable you can set to True if you want to do testing without real charges being applied)
After editing that file run this page.
http://www.mysite.com/2checkout_signup/show_postback_path.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
It will report back that postback url you need to use in the 2checkout system.
Log into your 2checkout version 2 account and under the "look & feel section" enter that postback url for both the "Approved URL" and the "Pending URL"
Trust me: You want the URL there for a pending URL because the 2Checkout system is quite random and 95% of the payments that come in go to the pending URL and end up being legitimate sales. (at least for me they do)
Now make sure the Direct Return option on that page is on as well.
If set to Yes buyers will be immediately directed to your URLs below once they click the Complete Order button. If set to No the buyers will have to click a button to return to your URLs below. |
>> |
Save that page... and leave 2checkout.
| Now, delete this page from your ASPProtect setup. http://www.mysite.com/2checkout_signup/show_postback_path.asp
It's a minor security risk and is no longer needed needed.
The basic setup is finished. All you have to now is set up payments options the way you want them.
Changing Payment Options
In the "2checkout1.asp" file there are form options set up.
They look like this and you can have as many as you like.
<option selected value="30,9.95,3,">30 Days, 9.95</option>
In this option... A user has the option to purchase 30 days for $9.95 and he will be set to Access Level 3 when payment in completed.
Here is how it works.
The value setting (red) is essentially and array that can be made up 4 elements separated by comma's They must be separated by a comma and there can be no spaces. In this example the 4th value was not used but the last comma must still be there. If you didn't want to set an access level and left out the "3" there would 2 commas at the end. etc etc Basically there must always be 3 commas but you only have to set the 1st 2 values which are days and price.
days,price,access level,groups
The 1st value is the amount of days. The 2nd value is the price for the amount of days. The 3rd value is the access level you want to user assigned to. The 4th option is the groups you want the user assigned to. (see PayPal subscription thread for examples of specifying group info)
Now, the label for the option in (blue) can say whatever you like. , no, there is not not.
If you wanted to to that you would have to add some code to check their album count in the database and not allow them to make a new album if they were at the limit. cwilliams38433.0233680556, Are you aware ASP can run on any machine running win95/95,2000,xp pro, 2003. You really should test all asp code locally before running it on live servers but anyway... that is your deal
I am not sure if memory alone will be enough for that server but it could help. I saw a decent amount of free memory when I looked. Its just about an 8-10 year old system on every aspect (processer,OS,Hard drives, memory etc etc) and not only that something is tasking the heck out of the resources left over for asp database access. Something is just wrong. I don't know what it is but I am pretty sure it is not aspprotect. I got rid of my last nt 4 server about 4-5 years ago but the application always ran great on NT and I still have some customers using NT 4. Not many though.
if you email me the import file and the encryption keys you are using I will make a database for you.. just zip it up and send it to chris-cjwsoft.com
replace - with @ , There are several pages on my website that a user may go to that are not protected (e.g. home page). If the user has indicated that they want to be saved on this computer (until they explicitly log off), and their 1st entry point is to an unprotected page, how do I determine whether they have logged in before, and extract the info from the cookie / session variables without forcing them to log in or making the entry page protected?
, expiration dates are not used in aspprotect's database when signing someone up using PayPal subscriptions because the PayPal system keeps track of all of that and will automatically send posts to the approtect system if a user needs to be deactivated for not paying or for whatever reason.
As you will notice in that thread about subscriptions the paypal signup data you use for the person determines their membership pricing and details.. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=186& ;PN=1
Basically the system takes care of everything. PayPal takes care of everything.
However you want to look at it.
cwilliams38446.6609953704, Is there anyway to limit the number of Albums each user can make? , I do not really know a lot about but it is basically code that lets you specify however many number of images and links... and then display a certain number of them at once.
You'd have to search google for it.. there are 1000 of sites that offer free javascript code and that is where you find scripts like that.
You could certainly set up all the images and links for each banner in aspbanner but if you used them with code like that you be limited to tracking clicks on banners. Tracking page impressions would not be possible because the javascript would be handling what images get displayed at any given time. Basically each link for each image would be going through aspbanners tracking url feeding it the banner id and therefore tracking the click and sending the user to the desirec URL.
Regardless, it is not something I would support. You would have to sort it out as it is nothing ASPBanner was designed to do and not something I want to deal with because client side javascript code is not something I am NOT very good with. , Hello,
You'll need to find a validation function to test for it. Either server side or right in the form via client side javascript.
I dont have any experience with validating zip codes here much less UK.
Google it would be my best advice.. or maybe find some free app written in UK format and see how they did it.
Good Luck..
And if ya find anything post it here if ya like cwilliams38381.5607638889, That's excellent!
I did learn that parent paths were disabled on my test 2003 server...
But on the hosted server, it looks like parent paths are supported as I change the file location of the language file in the forum common.asp as such, and obviously moved the file as well:
from:
<!--#include file="language_files/language_file_inc.asp" -->
to:
<!--#include file="../language_file_inc.asp" -->
Everything seems to work fine and I thank you very much for you quick response!!!
Ok, time to buy...thanks again!
- Jason
, ahh, I see..
that is not really something you should change.. it is pretty much always going to say read for any folder
It's hard to say, but adjusting settings like that could inadvertently change folder permissions in a way that could cause problems and be hard to correct. I really don't know that for sure but it is very easy to totally mess up permissions when trying different things. In the past I had to reinstall iis just to get things back to normal. I eventually over time learned what to do and what not to do and have never had a problem since. I am not saying you are one of those people but a lot of people have problems because they play around with things they shouldn't or they go nuts trying to give every account permission starting from root folders... overwriting important default permissions instead of just making changes to a few specific folders.. not understanding the importance of what they are doing..... etc etc
Sometimes you practically have to be a NT expert just to fully understand permissions. I know a lot and I can handle my own server but it's hard to explain the low level basic of NT permissions to others as there is a lot to it under the scenes. A lot of hard core NT/2000 users do all the permissions from the command prompt because there is a lot more control at that level.
Like I said earlier, what you showed me looks right but this isn't a complex issue and the error means what it means. Something isn't right with the permissions.
I would start from scratch if I were you. Perhaps consider doing an install in a new web instead of in your root like you showed me. Or try installing it on another machine for troubeshooting sake.
I am sorry I can't think of some amazing answer on this one, but I think this is just one of those weird situations that requires starting from scratch or trying it on another machine. , yes, How can I have fixed size height and width image without distortion. Is there a component that I can use or how can I change the existing code.
yes, unless its ratio matches
how could it not be ?
Please keep questions like this in the forums... thx. there is no need for this to be a private message

If I choose fixed width and height is the thumbnail image going to be distorted?
-- Previous Private Message -- Sent by : cwilliams Sent : April/29/2005 at 1:17pm
that is not possible unless you rewrite the code.
You onlyahve the two options we give in the config file for thumbnails
fixed width and height all the time
or
fixed width / dynamic height
-- Previous Private Message -- Sent by : eeye Sent : April/29/2005 at 1:07pm
Hi William
One more questions for you. is there a way to make sure that all the thumbnails are the same size without distorting the images (in the thumbnails). Or if a picture's height is bigger than its width is there to create the thumbnail such that the height of the orginal becomes the width of the thumbnails and vice versa.
Basically I just want the thumbnail pictures to be in a perfect row with all the picture heights the same and all the pic width the same.
Thanks
Sean , Chris, and all who read this post.
Don't run away! I believe that perhaps I gave Chris good cause for this post to be created . But dont fear .
When it comes to most languages I am a newbie, let alone ASP.NET. I did not choose to have an application for my site to be built in ASP.NET. However it was and I had paid for that program and it needed protecting!
Now I did have a few problems, however NONE were with ASPProtect.NET. It is brilliant. NONE were with Chris and the support he provides. I believe he must work 24/7 judging by the speed of replies and the timezone differences.
In the end all the problems were down to MY typos and a web host who insisted that any problem was a conflict and not their server set-up.(which it was!)
Having eliminated the typo and changed web provider to a less arrogant company. ASPProtect.NET installed and ran out of the box. Truely impressive.
As a newbie it is not something I would like to do again. But with help from Chris and from a friend with ASP.NET knowledge any issues were very quickly resolved.
An A+ recommendation for CJWSoft. I love it! , Thanks for the info. We'll do as you suggest.
NPA , Chris:
Quick question. I'm currently using navigation style 1 which
keeps everything within the 1 window. I'd like to take the text
descriptions and place them under the main photo when it is
displayed. Before i modify anything, I'd like to check if I'm in
the right neighborhood first. It looks like I need to:
- modify the behaviour of the 'onmouseover' function in the file 'view_album_style_1.asp'
- add in a few lines of code to take
FixStr(UserArray1(PicIndex - 1),"PrepareForJavaScript"), put it into a
text string and do a response.write under (or over) the photo in
question.
Question Part 2 -- if i wanted to use the first line of the description as a title could I:
- add in an input to the photo upload
- concatenate the 2 strings together (title and description)
- display the title under the thumbs
- bold the display of the title over the large version of the image.
Pretty complicated questions, but I'm coming along nicely (IMHO). Have a look at
http://www.iphotosite.com/galleryapp/default.asp
I really like the progress that I've been able to make with this app without really spending a huge amount of time.
Kurt
, Yes, thats cool.. post it here for sure.
Also, the way you allowed for your search engine is clever and probably was the easiest way to go.
You could do the same thing with the IP. Much easieri than the way I was thinking of doing it.
, OK, I updated the server with the SP 8 Jet updates and this had no effect.
Then I loaded the asptest file and put in the correct path. The results were:
Failed: Database could not be connected to....
Error reported from server: Error source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers Error number: -2147467259 Error description: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x784 Thread 0x854 DBC 0x2101014 Jet'.
, Really, only you or your hosting company would know that information...
It is usally installed in the "_database" folder but the physical path including the drive letter to that can only be known by asking your hosting company or by using server mappath to learn the path on you own. http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/physical-path.asp
That folder also needs special permissions. The permissions it needs are covered in the documentation for the software and generally only your hosting compnay can set those permissions.
The online support forums here are full of information and resources on correctly setting up data connections. It is ASP 101 and something you really need to have an understanding of.
I am happy to answer questions and try to help, but if you dont want to deal with it or can't we do offer installation services.
http://www.cjwsoft.com/installation_service.asp
, It a generic error that means something is wrong with your data connection.

, (Capcha Security Image Mod)
This mod will add a Capcha Security Image to the registration signup form.

Instructions:
Download the latest version of the ASP Security Image Generator from this site. http://www.tipstricks.org/
Unzip that download and copy "aspcaptcha.asp" and "aspcaptcha_distort.asp" into the aspprotect "users" folder.
Now edit "users/register.asp" with a text editor and add the code shown below in blue. The code to add goes near the bottom of the form right above the submit button. Just add the blue code. The code around it is shown to help you find the area of code where it gets placed.
<tr> <td valign="top" align="right"><font face="Arial" size="2"><strong> Newsletter</strong></font></td> ; ; ; ; ; ; ; <td valign="top"> <input type="checkbox" name="Newsletter" value="True" checked> <font face="Arial" size="1">Do you want to be subscribed to the newsletter ?</font></td> </tr>
<tr> <td valign="top" align="right"></td> <td valign="top"> <img src="aspcaptcha.asp" alt="" width="86" height="21" /> <font face="Arial" size="2" color="#000000">Type the characters shown in image for verification.</font><br> <input name="strCAPTCHA" type="text" id="strCAPTCHA" maxlength="8" /></td> </tr>
<tr> <td colspan="2" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <p align="center"><input type="submit" value="Register"></p> </td> </tr>
ok, now edit "users/add_new_account.asp" with a text editor and add the code shown below in blue. Just add the blue code. The code around it is shown to help you find the area of code where it gets placed.
If User_Custom6_Used = True Then If User_Custom6_Required = True Then If Custom6 = "" Then ErrorMessage = ErrorMessage & Server.URLEncode("You need to enter a " & User_Custom6_Name &".\n\n") End IF End If End If strCAPTCHA = Trim(Request.Form("strCAPTCHA")) if strCAPTCHA = Trim(Session("CAPTCHA_" & Session.SessionID)) then else ErrorMessage = ErrorMessage & Server.URLEncode("You did not type in the verification info correctly.\n\n") End If If ErrorMessage <> "" Then Response.Redirect "register.asp?" & Request.Form & "&ErrorMessage=" & ErrorMessage Response.End End If
Your done. You just added a Capcha Security Image to your signup form. If you would like a more distorted image that is more difficult for an automated program to figure out change the image tag to call the "aspcaptcha_distort.asp" page instead. It will look more like this.
, not really, aside from looking in paypal and manually adding each one for each user...
how many users are we talking about anyway ?
and were any of the users new sign ups from scratch because if they were and that field didnt get populated that is weird?
ultimately aspprotect does not use that field. I was just storing it for the sake of storing it... so its not a big deal but I would still like to figure out what is going on
removing the expiration dates from paypal subscripbers will be enough to fix the issue your having about them getting the expiration notifications , Lastly, I put there information here to help, but please don't ask me any questions about it.
I am not microsoft SQL server support. If this doesn't work for you simply start troubleshooting and doing google searches like I do. , I am also getting the "Unspecified Error" message. I just transferred my site to IIS 5.0 and I get that error now. However it does not happen everytime. I can click on a page and it opens fine and then I hit refresh in the browser and I get the "Unspecified Error" message. What could be causing this?
, Not really. The way I thought activity would work is that I would always see the last 50 users. Not sure what controls that and why I wasn't seeing it, but it sounds like it is an IIS thing and since my site is not all that busy, it will not show the users if some process has reset the numbers. Not a big deal.
As for the log files, I think it is related to my other question regarding the export directory. I have the ISP looking into things at thier end to see if they are doing anything that could cause the directories to disappear.
Thanks,
Dave , I am sure its permissions as well, but I don't have that much access to the hosted server...lol.
I will use access for now, since it works fine, and try to talk with the hosting people later.
Thanks! , Hi,
I am using the upload_post_VBSCRIPT.asp to upload the pictures. My concern is the security of this. For instance I've seen some sites get hacked by a user uploading a file (going through the same process) and ending up crashing the entire server.
I tried adding .jpeg to the end of a text file (filename.vbs.jpeg) and then uploading it, and the file was actually uploaded. Is this a potential problem?
Thanks
S eeye38447.0388541667, There was nothing wrong with the server configuration. It turned out that the problem was that I disabled the email notification of new user registrations that I continually receive. That appears to disable the authorization email to new users as well.
One other issue. It appears that AOL email addressee's are not getting the authorization email. Does AOL have any blocks to CDONT generated emails?
, No worries
then..
is there any way I can get rid of those information shown on User activity screen, so I can at least know who logged in current day?
thank you in advance , yes, usernames and passwords are both case sensitive. It increases security. , humm, yea thats a data connection error.. really not related to the asp code in the application for the most part.
that is low level
If using MSACCESS
I would make sure permissions are set correctly on the database folder (not just the database file itself)
I would make sure your using at least a 2000 version of the database. 2003-2003 format being better..
I would make sure the server has up to date mdac/odbc drivers.. (that is really the server admins responsibility)
As for permissions there are articles in our forums about exactly how they need to be set. Improper permissions can cause a ton of random errors like that.
cwilliams38414.6528240741, LOL , I dont get it.. I am still looking into it..
I think this has something to do with your original experience when things would work and then not work.
something weird is going on , one last thing... if you did an upgrade from a previous version and didnt do the whole database field thing right during the upgrade process as stated here you could have trouble. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo174-1.htm
Meaning you should check your new database with the field structure of an unmodified new database and make sure all field names match up perfectly.. especially paying attention to the username and password fields
One last thing.. If you did an import via text file and didn't import all the fields ASPProtect needs you could possibly have problems as well.. though I don't think this relates to the timeout so it probably is not the case , Very weird for sure but I guarantee no code in ASPProtect is deleting that folder. Something else is going on the server and deleting it and I have no idea what it would be.
Maybe try leaving a blank text file in it and see if the folder disappears after a few days., I have just purchased ASP v7 and loaded. Followed instructions. Obtained codes not prob. Get to single field login screen, enter password and following page appears:
Method Not Allowed
The requested method POST is not allowed for the URL /temp/aspprotect/password_admin/get_me_in.asp.
Added folder aspprotect under (temp web) folder - temp, but also tried under root folder of web site.
Still no luck.
Apache/1.3.27 Server at www.didac.co.uk Port 80, ok.
sorry then..
I just had a series of fraudulant orders this past week including today and the whole thing has me on edge. (foreign people getting my code for free and doing who knows what with it) When you mentioned calling the cc company it pushed all the right buttons.
Merry Christmas, When did you download the ASPProtect Version 7 zip file ?
what did you enter as a wrong password to make that happen ?
does it it do it when other wrong passwords are entered ?
