Can you be more specific on the javascript I should look for? Can it be combined with ASPBanner?, Then, you would have to add those users to the aspprotect user database. You would do so using the built in import/export features of msaccess and being very carteful about it. It is not a process we support and the technique used would be unique to any situation. Its basic database work though but still you have to be able to do it.
ASPProtect uses its own user database and you have to use that database. ASPPortect can not authenticate users using some other existing database.
Does that make sense ?,
I am in process of upgrading from v6 to v7. I have made database changes, can connect to database and get in to Administration area just fine. However when I go to create a new user I get the following error
ADODB.Recordset error '800a0cc1'
Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.
/password_admin/save.asp, line 227
Thanks
, Its a great idea. I didnt really check the counter until the album started working. Its a great concept though., actually I just went to it again and it was somewhat slow coming up this time..
perhaps you have some issues with the sql database.
it should be instant.. like this one I run on my server
http://banserver.powerasp.com/aspbanner/
I suppose it could also have something to do with sql server resources but its hard to say..
cwilliams38319.7859722222, Thanks Chris, Hello,
I need to see if this is possible. I want to create a browsing system such that, the user selects a Province from a drop down list on the main page. Based the selection, the username of all the users in that province will be shown. Then the user can click on a specific username and his/her portfolio (photo album) will be displayed.
is this possible? If so, How can I do this, please help.
Thanks
Sean
cwilliams38420.518275463, check the connection string in the dataconn_inc.asp file. If using MSAccess it will show the location. If using SQL Server it will show the SQL Server details in which case there is no physical database file., We would like to give a member an opportunity to upload an image when on their profile page. How does this work with the photo option on the settings page? Is this the intended usage? Thank You. , It's probably something I could do for you as a custom project if you are interesting in paying to have that work done, but it is probably not something that will be added to this version of aspbanner as it is in my opinion a feature more suited for a more expensive software package.
It is also difficult to get ASP code to do things on it's own. Scheduling something to run on the server or some other clever scenario is necessary and that usually means it would be unique to each persons setup.

, You not getting a blank page.. you getting an error. You just can't see it because it appears you edited the page background to black.

Until I have time to make one I suggest using the one on the banmanpro support site as it is pretty nice.
Just dont use option 2 on that page as that is specific to banmanpro

cwilliams38291.614849537, btw: who is this hosting company anyway ?
and did they give you access to a control panel that lets you manage your site ? sometimes that is where you manage those permissions if their interface supports it
lastly, are frontpage extensions installed in your web so it can be connected to via frontpage ?
, Just an update,,,
the permission were all correct.... i left it and tried from my pc at work and it works fine... so i dont know what hahhpened.... thansk for your quick response

, You can also try setting asphttp's user agent property to some browser version like in this example. It might stop that info from showing up when it fetches a page from the server.
<%
Dim BanObj1Http
Set BanObj1Http = Server.CreateObject("AspHTTP.Conn")
BanObj1Http.UserAgent = "Mozilla Compatible (MS IE 3.01 WinNT)"
BanObj1Http.Url = " http://banserver.powerasp.com/aspbanner/aspbanner_inc.asp?Ba nnerZone=1"
Response.Write BanObj1Http.GetURL
set BanObj1Http = nothing
%>
Also... I dont know if these values below will work but I got them from looking at my nt logs.
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)
And here is more info on the asphttp component and it's settings.

cwilliams38248.6481365741, How can I make so it goes to certain webpages if user enters valid username and password??
I suppose user enters its information on check_user_inc.asp page, and username and password are stored on SQL database.
Thanks
, There are 8 Access Levels by default.. they work like this.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=166& ; ; ;PN=1
Access Levels exist in ASPProtect Version 7 for backward compatibilty for customers using previous versions.
Truth is Groups are the replacement for Access Levels and they are much more powerful and flexible. You can also make as many of them as you want in the admin area.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=167& ; ; ;PN=1
On a side note:
We also coded ASPProtect Version 7 so there could technically be as many access levels as you wanted. It's not supported but if you really wanted more Access Levels you would carefully add more Access Levels to the drop down choices when you edit a user. "edit.asp"
I don't know why anyone would want to use Access Levels however when they can use Groups.
cwilliams38433.5546875, First pass through, I don't see anything changed in the groups section of the check_user asp file. the logoff asp wasn't touched.
I noticed the demo online (on this site) only has pages protected with access levels; you say it works fine with groups also?
, do you have the url path to the registration page set correctly in the settings cause not having it there would do that ? , Can you please elaborate on this? I have a flash banner that is on my site. All of the info is in the code banner section. In the banner link section, I have nothing. Do I need to actually edit the swf file with redirect URL? How do I edit the swf file? Once that is edited, do I put the URL of the site in the Link URL space? Thanks. , I have run into the same problem with streaming pdfs to the browser
using the stream_download.asp example, but only when selecting the
option to open the file directly into the browser (after it's streamed
back) as opposed to saving it and then opening it (which works fine in
Firefox and IE). Then I ran across this Microsoft support article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q2 97822
It got me thinking that maybe a header needs to be included in
stream_download.asp that tells the browser to specifically cache the
file. Adding this suddenly got everything working
Response.CacheControl = "Public"
right after this line in the code
Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"
My asp is limited, but this seems to work at least for pdf
documents. Can someone confirm this? The other question I
have is if this is a solution, should the CacheControl be set to public
or private. Not sure on what the implications are.
Firefox by the way seems to open or save and open the file without
this, so you are right that the implementation between the browsers is
certainly different.
Tom
, okay thanks, dsn-less is the way to go..
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo9-2.htm
you also need to use newer versions of the database as the odbc drivers on the server are sometimes very new and no longer work with access 97 databases
, It is common when testing a site that this happens because of the nature of session variables.
Admins have access to EVERYTHING so it is very important when testing different user accounts that you specifically log out... and then close every single browser window before logging in as a different user. This is to ensure session info from the previous user does not overlap in any areas.
(The session variable for admin access being the main one)
Under normal circumstances a user would not log in with many different accounts on the same computer this this would only be a problem for a developer who is testing.
So make sure you go to the to log-off page and log off.. then close all browser windows.. then test another user.
If all this is not the case then something else is going on and I will need more information. I pretty much know the level checking code for ASPProtect Version 6 is correct as there has been no reason to change any of it in over a year. I would have heard reports of problems with it. ,
If you want to have a login form on a non protected page that posts
to a protected ".asp" page use code like this.
Change the action of the form to the page you want them to log into.
Make sure to page you send them to is protected by the "check_user_inc.asp" file.

, OK, so I misread the instructions. Wouldn't have been the first time
that happened... but I just had an account get created, guy then
paid, and... no activation. I had to go in the next day and do that by
hand. What should I do to look for troubleshooting on the issue? I've
got all the default directories set up and all the files where they
should be. What next?
, Hi,
I only just purchased the product and I would be very keen to
a) is the upgrade available very soon as I don't want to spend the time developing one and than find the other released shortly &
b) would I only need to pay the difference for the upgrade or have I already downloaded the upgrade already.
I cant see what version I current have.
I look forward to your response.
ripcurlsurf38138.816099537, Hello,
I really need more infomation..
for starters
what is the server ? iis4,5, or 6 ?
what is the version of aspbanner.. aspbanner standard or aspbanner unlimited ?
what was the error message before you removed the "on error resume next"
was the sql database created using the sql creation scripts we provide as that is VERY important.
and lastly what are the the regional settings of the server ?
what is the date format ?
, I assume you mean 500 pixels wide
no.. because you cant reliably tell a pictures image width without an image resizing component to look it up.. asp can not do things like that on its own
serverobjects has a free component called "imagesize" that can do it as well but you need access to the server to install the component
http://www.serverobjects.com/products.htm
so if you cant do that with regular asp code you definetly can not stop the upload proces because the picture is too wide..
heck, that would be nearly imposible to do regardless.. even with the best 3rd party components at your disposal
even with an image resizing component you would have to allow the upload.. then check the pixel width.. then delete it.. tell the user what is going on...etc etc .. all a very complicated process
, You should not have single quotes around the "-1" because Album_Active is not a string field in the database. It's true/false or bit field in the database depending on the database you are using (MSSQL or ACCESS)
I'd do it a little more like this I think.
SELECT COUNT(Album_ID) AS Alb_Count FROM " & tbl_label_albums & " WHERE User_ID = " & CmdListUsers("User_ID") & " AND Album_Active = 1"
I took out the parentheses as well since I dont believe they are needed in a simple case like this
but is hard to say unless your the one testing it... my version might have a mistake as I am a little rusty with my SQL at the moment
also: in case your wondering...
depending on the situation and the odbc drivers the 1 and -1 should work either way but sometimes it's picky and you have to do it one way or the other
cwilliams38433.0564930556, I dont understand why I would get an error? -- I'm not sending the email from internal - so why would it try to validate?
I'm trying to send an email to an independent place - just like I would send an email to you
Am I using the wrong email setting - should I be doing something other than using "remote server"
, I have just started to move my sites to a new dedicated Windows 2003 box. I have parent paths enabled, SSI turned on but I still can't get ../ to work with server side includes. Everything I read online says that I need to turn on parent paths but again, they are already turned on.
The hosting company where the server is located can't tell me anything, they just say that that is the way it is with Windows 2003. I don't buy it!
Can anyone tell me anything on this issue to help enable the ../ for serverside includes?
, Thankyou, that was very helpful,
I'm having another problem-hopefully it's a quick fix.
it tries to go to a page: default.aspx
Server Error in '/' Application.
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
Requested Url: /default.aspx
When i log in as admin from the aspprotectadmin/default.aspx that works fine...
where should the user be sent when they log in? Am i supposed to specify that or is it automatic? Why isnt it working for me? I dont believe i changed any settings that correspond to that either
, Ow.
I haven't moved (or messed with) any critical files within the directory at all, just placed them as a job lot into a subdirectory call aspprotect.
All I did was put all the files directly into a directory rather than into the root because some of the subdirectories had the same name as some already in use and would therefore have been overwritten.
I'll go back and have another look in the cold light of day (its too late tonight UK time).
Thanks anyway.
, You have old code I think.
It's probably because his password used with your encryption key by chance creates a single quote and messes up the database query
A notice went out about this. I will PM you the latest download with the updated files.
, I am having trouble getting any information to show up in the log files
directory or anything showing up on the log files tab in the
administrator. I have set the following variables under the
settings tab:
UseLogFiles checked and
value of LogFileDirectory is "c:\inetpub\wwwroot\wf\data\logfiles"
I checked the permissions on that folder and they are set so that the Internet Guest account has full control on that directory.
I also checked RecentActiveUsers and RecentPageRequrests.
I am sure I am missing something simple but no files are ever showing
up in the logfiles directory...anyone have similar problems or at least
successes?
Thanks!!
, Hello,
I think you’ll definitely like aspbanner. It's very easy to setup and use and it should work great with your portal.
You’ll have banners rotating in no time. All you have to do is add banner calling code in your pages where you want the banners to show. There are enough methods that you will definitely find a few that work well for you.
BTW, there are actually 7 methods now as we have a new one.
Information about it can be found in our ASPBanner support forums
cwilliams38455.9049884259, I had never noticed this before, but a customer sent me email to say that they had set up their aspclassifieds profile such that they be contacted by email and not by phone.
However, in their ad, their phone number still appears. The lines in view_ad.asp that check for True values for the Contact_Via_Email and Contact_Via_Phone before displaying that information seem to always evaluate to True, regardless of their setting in the database.
I'm using an Access2000 DB for this. When I open the DB in access, I see the checkboxes correctly unchecked for phone and checked for email. However, if I do a quick test to display the retrieved values in the view_ad.asp (<%=contact_via_phone%> <%=contact_via_email%> they both display True.
What gives? I have had nightmares with Access and its weird handling of true/false 0/1 yes/no fields, but this is driving me nuts.
, Is there any update to this ?,
