Well, you cant have a login box on the home page when using ASPProtect.NET.. there is no way to make that work. I tried all day to come up with something and it is not going to happen. I suggest you make a login button and link it directly to the protected page you want them to start on. The redirect or link them whereever from there. Either that or write your own forms based authentication solution that works exactly the way you want it to or edit the code accordingly since you have the source. It is not a feature we advertise for the product regardless. It works the way it works. , Let me put it this way.
My home page (default.asp) is an unprotected page.
When a user that has signed in on another (protected pages) and has the remember me checkbox checked closes the browser cookies should be set for the next time they return.
When the user opens their browser and returns to my home page (default.asp), I'd like to put a message saying:
Welcome back <%Session ("Username")%>
How is this done?
,
If you code support for it yes, the application comes with no paypal code or support built in.
If you think it will help you, you are welcome to a copy of the classic asp version which supports paypal subscriptions. Perhaps looking at the code would help you.
, I did everything mentioned here but it do not work ;(
, ASPProtect Version 7
Expiry Notices go out to members who have recently renewed by subscription.
When an existing member from ASPProtect Version 6, with an expiry date, renews with SUBSCRIPTION in v7, the previous expiry date remains unchanged.
We assume the expiry date remains blank with NEW Subscriptions and that Paypal takes care of notifications.
But our notifications to the "about to expire" dating from v6 catches the "Renewed by subscrtiption" as well, as the date has nor been changed or removed, and this REALLY confuses our members.
Can this be resolved?
, in that file "upload_post.asp"
change
<%
If Session("Admin") <> "True"
Response.End
End If
%>
to
<%
If Session("Admin") <> "True" Then
Response.End
End If
%>
, YAY FOR ASPPROTECT 7!!!
Now I need to know... how can I automate PayPal subscriptions and purchases? I'd like it so that once PayPal gets its money, my accounts get marked active.
Now, the documentation on this site currently says, to point the IPN post action to a null page. Yet, I see an IPN.asp in my files for PayPal subs and PayPal purchases... Looking over the code there, I see actions to make accounts active and stuff like that. Is the page ready for prime time, or should I hold off for a new version?
cwilliams38421.7014814815,
I can no longer send e-mails to my configured accounts through aspbanner. It was working for over a year and now it stopped.
At one point I was using
CDONTS_Installed but since I moved to a new Windows 2003 server I was told by my ISP that either one of these will work
but neither one works. Can some one assist?
JMAIL_Installed
ASPEMAIL_Installed
, This relates to a part of the new documentation that wasn't ready yet.
I just made a thread about it though.
Here you go.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=198& ; ;PN=1&TPN=1 cwilliams38419.5353587963, I agree -- don't use the code as is. I provided it only as an idea for a work-around if your ASPProtect users with Internet Explorer complain about the Page Expired message.
I did not test it to be sure the parms coming into the target page (which would be part of the URL when bookmarking) are properly preserved. It would be easy to make sure they are preserved, but I am not sure the code in the example does that. I also customized the code with my own page header and footer.
I have the Option Pack but the site does not need it yet so I haven't applied it. I don't expect many problems re-applying my few lines of modifications.
The IE behavior is not a big deal if you provide an explicit login page, since users would have less interest in paging back to that. In my case, I simply gave a link to a protected part of the site, and when they take that link, they instead get the login form if they aren't logged on. Once they log on, they get their desired content page, to which they sometimes want to page back later on.
From searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base and other sources, I could not find a way (using HTML) to turn off IE's behavior of refusing to quietly reload a page containing form data. Netscape does not do this. So my IE workaround is to ensure my target page does not contain the login form. It does not solve the cause of the problem, but in this case it gets rid of the Page Expired error message for my IE users.
I also purchased ASPProtect for another site, and I'm using that "out of the box" unmodified. I'm very pleased with ASPProtect's functionality and the fact that it works completely without the need to customize. However, I've found it is very easy to customize if I want to.

, MODS are NOT SUPPORTED.. questions about them will not be answered in the support forums. If you want to use a MOD you are considered an advanced user and will need to sort out any issues that may or may not come up.
MODS are used at your own risk and may or may not require certain basic coding skills. , In a way your questions are confusing to me, but here is some information regardless.
Using Active Sever pages you can not protect entire folders. It is simply not possible. ASPProtect is Active Server Pages scripts so it can only protect individual ".asp" files.
If you are concerned about customers downloading the access database..
best practive is to store it in different folder name than it came in
best practive is to give the database .mdb file itself a different name
best practive is to change the password on the access database
best practice is to store it in a directory that is not part of your web if possible.. many of the better hosting companies have it set up so you actually can do that
the more of these things you can do the better..
And if you are really worried about security you should use a SQL Server database which nobody can download from your website under any conditions because your data lives in the sql server and unless they get the username/password to it they can not access it.
cwilliams38306.6367708333, ya, that firewall could mess that up.
just edit which ever style include you are using
(with a text editor)
it will be one of these depending on your settings.. and they are located in the "scripts" directory
view_album_style1_inc.asp
view_album_style2_inc.asp
view_album_style3_inc.asp
find this section of code and remove the part in red
If Last_Counter_IP <> Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR") Then
Set CmdUpdateCounter = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
cmdTemp.CommandText = "SELECT " & tbl_label_albums & ".* FROM " & tbl_label_albums & " WHERE (Album_ID = " & Album_ID & ")"
cmdTemp.CommandType = 1
Set cmdTemp.ActiveConnection = ConnGallery
CmdUpdateCounter.Open cmdTemp, , 1, 3
CmdUpdateCounter.Fields("Album_Counter") = (Album_Counter + 1)
CmdUpdateCounter.Fields("Last_Counter_IP") = Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR")
CmdUpdateCounter.Update
CmdUpdateCounter.Close
Album_Counter = Album_Counter + 1
End If
, that variable comes from the settings acreen in the admin area. If you do not have it set properly things like what you are describing will happen., ok thanks, I'am in the process of modifing registration and tieing in paypal. When I get live I will send you a link. Thanks for help.

, There is nothing built in to the system but it is very doable.
However, you need to be a decent asp coder because your going to have to write some code.
Basically you would want to do a check on the screen where a user uploads to count how many pictures they have uploaded.
Then act accordinly and either let them or dont let them proceed.
On a side note the overall filesize limit of the total of all pictures a user can upload can be set when you edit a user.
,
it has been 3 days since I logged myself in under Admin, and all the user information on the User Activiy screen seemed to be gone.
is there any specific length of period it refreshes its user information??

Hi Chris,
Alright. We figured out how to work with both C# and VB, by creating a separate VB web project in VStudio, and then passing the aspprotectnet.dll to the C# project.
Ok. I have another question:
How can our code determine the identity and user_id of the currently logged in user:
Is it Session["User_ID"].ToString() and Session["Username"].ToString()?
thank you
, That's exactly what it was.
The site owner couldn't see their own ads because Norton was blocking anything with the word ad in it.
On another note: I changed the word 'ad' to 'listing' and got it to show even with Norton.
,
Error when click on banner. (I remove on error resume next in config_inc.asp)
The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.

Database - MS SQL Server.
Gignutyi38368.5403935185, Okay, I deleted out the aspprotect folder and started over. I also took out the dsn connection to the ecommerce database and deleted out the subweb that had it, I decided to use another provided where the database is resident on thier servers not mine.
I broke my txt file into groups and it's loading sort of. The first 1000 users uploaded fine...the second said it timed out, but when I looked at the access database it showed 2000 people. The login still times out and every page seems to load incredibly slow still.
, humm, I am curious
If these people are employees and sales reps why are are you using expiration dates at all ? and why the renewing issues... etc etc
I am sure there is a reason but you did not explain.
it might help me to better understand and possibly think about new features for new versions in the future., It is most likely because they have something running like Norton Ad Blocker.
Or something of that nature that blocks anything with certain words in it like "ad"
They are running something that is doing it.cwilliams38450.0079282407, A correctly configured Microsoft SQL Database is critical to the correct operation of the ASPBanner system.
Table & Field settings must be exactly the way we set them in the database creation scripts provided with the ASPBanner system.
Below are screenshots of the design view settings for all the tables used in the ASPBanner system in case you want to double check them

In addition to the settings above each table has one field that is a primary key with an auto increment of one
In the screenshots above each of those fields has a yellow key next to it.
If the field does not have yellow primary key icon on you just right click and the option to make it one appears.
The SQL column settings for each one of the primary key fields must be set as follows

In addition to these settings the SQL scripts provided with the system auto populate the Banner_Users table with two users. This is very important because without the Admin user the scripts add you wont be able to log in to the ASPBanner system as an admin.
cwilliams38325.7405092593, It's custimization work. and just not something I can support.
Basically it is basic ASP/Database work.
Something you kind of need to figure out on your own. It's not difficult work for a good asp coder but there is no easy way and it is time comsuming.
I wouldn't use the custom fields though. I would make your own.
It's simpler that way.
cwilliams38437.0929282407, no, you cannot unless you plan to write a lot of custom code.
That is why the option pack has groups which eliminate the need to use access levels because groups can do everything access levels can and more.
There is an article here regarding that.

cwilliams38303.5555439815, Sorry, I can not provide a date.. I am last person that is organized enough to give any sort of release date on anything.
Could be next week, could be 2 years from now. I made two add-ons this week and they came out of no where. I had no plans to make them. etc etc.. they just happened.
If I told you 2 months from now I know it would not be done and you would be disappopinted so I am not saying anything. I will say if it turns out to be anything complex it will not be a free mod or it will be a feature of a new version., Encountered another issue. When entering a user name correct but the wrong password get the following error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e14'
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Syntax error in string in query expression '(Username = 'ROBERT') AND (Password = 'ZŁ$'.
/check_user_inc.asp, line 115
Did I do something else wrong?!
Thanks
, Thanks.

, You really should just look at the documentation that came with the application. It tells you everything you need to know.
it is in the docs folder in html format.. it is also linked to from the aspclassifieds website
http://www.aspclassifieds.com/demo/docs/
, ok, that is what you are suppose to do... not having that path info set can cause all sorts of trouble., (Password_Email_Confirmation_Mod) for ASPProtect Version 7.x
This will change the basic registration pages so that the email address and password entered must be confirmed when signing up. This eliminates the auto generated password during signup.
Some may prefer it working this way.

Directions:
Back up your existing ASPProtect installation.
Copy the two new files into your "users" folder
"register.asp"
"add_new_account.asp"

, Having a quality professionally set up ASP.NET server that is going to support your needs is CRITICAL whether it is yours or someone elses. Them saying they will not set permissions is useless. Quite honestly Network Solutions is a joke when it comes to ASP.NET hosting. They are all about CHEAP MASS HOSTING and that is not where you go when you plan on running complex ASP.NET applications. What good is ASP.NET hosting if you can not permissions set on folders you need it for? A lot of people run ASPProtect.NET and their hosts set permissions for them without issue. We made one folder that they could click on and set all permissions at once easily. If they truly knew anything they would understand that and set permissions for you in a heartbeart. You have to have a correctly set up server or a hosting company that is serious about your ASP hosting needs.
I mean you come to us with this mess of a situation, we tell you its a bad setup. We tell you to rebuild the server correctly or make a new one. Now instead of doing that you come to us with another mess of a situation. Now you act all frustrated because you have spent so much time on this. How the heck do you think we learned everything we know ? Do you think we have never spent weeks on a problem or stayed up for 4 nights in a row without sleep. That is how you learn and it is called experience. I have no sympathy for someone that complains about how long something took because I am right there with the best of them and I have paid my dues.
Have you by chance read all of this thread below because despite what you keep telling me you are totally falling into this category.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo234-1.htm
Granted you may not be "Joe Coder" but you are definetly "that guy" who doesn't really know what is going on with ASP.NET. "that guy" who sets up his own server and knows enough to be dangerous. You definetly have enough sense/basic skills to dig around and read articles and try things but when you are on the wrong track that only helps out so much.
Also: I really was pretty tired when I got home last night, but now that I really think about what you did with that webserver/domain controller is about the worst moves possible when it comes to IIS hosting setups.. That is just SO BAD !! Now, don't think that I haven't done some REAL stupid things in the past. John too, like the time 5 or so years back when thought he could make a Windows XP Pro webserver for serious non development use . Anyway, that is how you learn. I suggest you get your server running correctly (not a domain controller) or you get a real host like www.alentus.com for your asp hosting needs. I mean you can get an account for like 10.00 a month and end all these headaches right now. I even know one of the head techs there as well as the general manager. Their ASP and ASP.NET support is 2nd to none.
You may not like what I have to say, (hell, I can pretty much guarantee you won't) but I tell it like it is and in the long run you will be better off for it.. We spent a ton of time developing the .NET version of this product and we sell it way less than it is worth especially since we provide source code. It is an awesome product, but if the server isn't truly and correctly supporting ASP.NET or they host will not set permissions than it is out of our hands. As far as I am concerned anything else is a waste of everyone's time. I am not going to play that game. Quite frankly, you need to get your stuff together. Nothing you have come up with so far has anything to do with a bug with ASPProtect.NET. Everything has been server related.
QUALITY HOSTING !!!
PROFESSIONALY AND CORRECTLY SET UP SERVER !!!
THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE !!! , I am using cdont to send email. what do i have to do send email to other display my full name instead of email address. In other word I want to see first name last name in their email client instead of email address.
thanks for your help
, ok, I got it all sorted out for you and aspupload seems to be working now.
Basically they seem to have an odd version of it installed and I had to tweak the code a little. I also uploaded the server info page in the admin area to test for it.
Just back up the gallery folder so you have a backup copy of the modified code.
CJW , I'm all set - after thinking about your replies - i checked a bit more and changed the email component type -- thanks again for all your help.
, Makes sense to me. I used the ASPProtect_access2002.mdb supplied.
(I am using 2003). Only added more names and other personal info
to it for test. Uploaded the amended db with FTP. This did not
restrict someone not listed in db from logging in.
Would each individuals' information need to be added to the code in
order to have it check the database first to find out if the person is
authorized to view?
Part of the problem is I dont know which ASP page or script links the
db to the rest of the web, or how one page relates or links to the
other.
Sometimes I wonder if problems I encounter originate with the server.
Thanks for patience.
, Hi there,
Well, that is why we added the PayPal subscription pack where all of that is taken care of and customers get put under a recurring billing cycle.
The more people you get to pay that way the less you have to do.
We also have routines for the two other supported payment methods so people can look up their account and add time to it whether it is active/expired or not.
Other than that, yes it is something you need to sort out on your own based on how you want to run your system. You have the source code and the sky is the limit on how you want handle all of that. You send out an email to users about to expire. Whether they come back to the site/look up their account and add more time to it is up to them. I really just do not see any way ASPProtect could handle that whole process automatically.
As for batch changing to users in the database. We give you the source code and we also use an open database structure. You can run any query you want on the database whether with ASP code or directly in your database using the tools that come with it, You can write any code you like to do whatever you like to the database. You can even tie other systems and code into the database via OBDC and manipulate data. The sky is the limit like I said. I also don't really see how batch changes to the database relates to individual users paying again for access or not especially since we include payment pages were a users can look up their accounts and pay for and add more time to it automatically ? At least not regarding the payment routine we provide support for.
ASPProtect can not handle everything every person would need to do. It is meant as a solid starting point for any project, but there are going to be times when more functionality will need to be added by the customer based on their specific needs.
, Ok time for some more questions!!!
Is there a way to make the person's email address their default username... or force it in somehow instead of allowing them to create their own?
