Blog Entry: 3/25/2006 4:32:58 PM

If I also password protect the pricelist pages then someone will have to login twice.

nobody should have to log in twice... ?

session variables keep track of access... once your in - your in and you can browse to and from any password protected pages you like

If it is making you log in each time then cookies are most likely disabled.. session variables requires cookies being on to work.. cookies being on  is a requirement of aspprotect and is how Formed Based Authentication works..

let me know if that is the issue there...

you shouldnt have to be logging in more than once per session

Thats the whole point of the application...

, Has this been resolved ?,

Hi,

I wanted to see if you had any suggestions for converting from Access to SQL sever database. I attempted this earlier today performing the following steps.

1) Create SQL Tables using Enterprise Manager / SQL Scripts
2) Use DTS to move all of the existing table data to the sql tables.
3) Update dataconn_inc.asp to use SQL and the required connection string.

When these steps were complete I was able to login to ASPProtect as an admin and search / find both groups and users. However, any attempt to edit or create users resulted in a "the page ... had a problem ... " type problem. It seems that I can read from the db fine but and getting errors writing to the tables. The user id that is being used to connect to the db is the [dbo].

Any additional hints for this procedure?

Thanks

Darrell

,

Yes, that’s all I wanted to know. The problem is on my end. The server is not creating the .NET site correctly. I think I got it working now. Thanks.

In case you wanted to know? The only reason I asked you is because you mentioned that you where having trouble with overseas piracy and my account is new. I figured it was my user error by just though I’d ask you first. Hope you have no more piracy issues and have a good rest of the day.

Thanks again for the quick response.

, gotcha...thanks.Tongue,

OK, well, that error is pretty self explanatory really. There isn't anything else it could mean.

What you showed me in that screen shot all looked correct, but still permissions to that file just can't be correct. The paths are correct. The path to the file looks correct. The ASPNET (ASP.NET) account looks correct.

I would try settings permissions directly on that XML file. Perhaps child permissions did not go through the way you intended. (the advanced tab must be used for that) If that doesn't work try giving ASPNET and Everyone full permissions on the file directly.

Possibly check the paths in the web.config file just for the heck of it.

Last case scenario, you can edit that XML file directly instead of using the screens in the application. Of course if that file does not have correct permission chances are other things like log files will give you issues as well.

That is all I can think of right now.

, Just copy the files over. have permissions set on any folders that need it, and edit the data connection so it's valid for the new server. Once you get logged to the admin area go update all the settings so any urls are valid.

really its no different than a new installation so just follow those directions but use your existing files.

There is no domain pointing involved...

As logn as the old stuff is not accesible on the live internet you don't need another license.

As for my installation fee of 25. That is only for new installations. I charge more for something like that as there may be compications such as custom changes to the code that I would have to deal with. Customers often custimize the login and users area.. etc etc .. and there may be hardcoded urls and what not to worry about changing.

LASTLY, I noticed all your other posts are in the ASPProtect 7 area so the installaton process for that is a bit different than for Version 6 so what I said above is not quite the same process. Please make sure you post in the correct area when asking questions. ,

yea.. it sounds like aspimage is not working right.

You wont get any errors..

I would suggest using some of aspimage's sample asp pages in your web and see if they do their thing. You need to be sure aspimage is working correctly under the ,ost simple of circumstances

Though ASPImage is the standard in ASP image resizing and has been around forever and it works very well. Their support is almost non-existant.. in 6 years they have never answered any email I have sent them. I have sent them 6 or so over the years and then just stopped trying. I bought a server bundle too way back then for like 300.00 or so when we had a company called gisco. You would think they could answer my emails. I think that guy just made a ton of asp components back in the day and then just took a seriously long vacation. Updated them a few times in between when he felt like it and making good money the whole time.. More power too him I guess. I'd love to be in his shoes when he sells an enterprise license for 3000.00. Maybe he isn't even around anymore and the someone he knows just kept the sales going. Who knows..

Anyway... it does a great job when ya get it working.

Personally this is how I install it and it works every time.
I like to put their dll in the system32 folder.
Register it.
Run their licensing prog to make it a full version if you paid for it yet.
Right click on the dll and give the "everyone" account modify permissions
Right click on the "windows/temp" folder and give it the same permissions

,

There was nothing wrong with the server configuration. It turned out that the problem was that I disabled the email notification of new user registrations that I continually receive. That appears to disable the authorization email to new users as well.

One other issue. It appears that AOL email addressee's are not getting the authorization email. Does AOL have any blocks to CDONT generated emails?

, Hi, lets start with about when did you purchase and download the application so I know what version of the code you have.,

ahhh ok.. I was going to wait till morning to answer this one..

glad ya figured it out

,

one last thing... if you did an upgrade from a previous version and didnt do the whole database field thing right during the upgrade process as stated here you could have trouble.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo174-1.htm

Meaning you should check your new database with the field structure of an unmodified new database and make sure all field names match up perfectly.. especially paying attention to the username and password fields

One last thing..
If you did an import via text file and didn't import all the fields ASPProtect needs you could possibly have problems as well.. though I don't think this relates to the timeout so it probably is not the case

,

Things have now changed I found out godaddy has persitis aspUPload and aspjpeg as value added products, I have the aspjpeg working but have been unable to upload when using aspUPload, everything works fine with the vbscript method so I think my permissions are correct. Whenever you get a chance, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

Hello,

You are correct regarding what you noticed.. ASPBanner only allows one person to administrate. If if did what you are asking about it would probably cost more.
(you get the ASP source so if you really wanted that you could always add it on your own fairly easily, but it all depends on your skills)

AS for keyword advertising and different ads based on certain pages ASPBanner does not get into that. The main reason being performance as I built ASPBanner primarily as a performance banner rotation solution.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=144& ; ; ; ; ;PN=1

Like that thread says, you could make different zones for different conditions.. then surround the banner calling code with if else logic so a different banner zone was called under certain conditions.

Regardless, if you really need something that has every bell and whistle. BanManPro is where it is at.

cwilliams38434.7100578704,

For all you advanced users..

Here are two examples of ASP.NET code you can use on your ".aspx" pages to call banners from the ASP 3.0 version of ASPBaner Unlimited V8

This code is not supported... and you of course must change things accordingly like the variable names and zone numbers to match the zone you want to call banners from as well as the url.

cwilliams38226.6523263889, It works. Thanks Chris. ,

ASPProtect v7 comes with working example code of protecting an image from being downloaded and also protects the true file location of the image on your server..

This comes with the system as an example folder with some files in it.

(some of the initial purchaser's of the system might not have that directory.. if that is the case please ask)

Here is how it works...

Basically we protect the image in 2 ways.

  1. We use Javascript right click disabling code that works in both IE and Firefox.
  2. We stream the image via a special password protected ".asp" page and use an image tag to call it. This hides the true location of the file. You can therefore keep your images out of your web or keep them in a folder in your web that does not allow file browsing. Under this scenario even if someone looks at the img tag html source they can not tell where the file came from. Doing all of this allows you to offer certain images only to people that are logged in.

All in all this is should be very effective protection. Yes, there are still ways to get the images like doing screen captures, but this will ensure that people viewing images are logged in to your site. This will in most cases keep them from right clicking and saving the images. This will ensure that people can not tell other people the image's url location and it will ensure other sites can not leach your images and bandwidth.

For the image protection examples to work you may need to edit some values
in the stream_pic.asp file that are valid for your setup.

Look at the source. The values you can edit are commented.

Now, you also need to call a valid "image file name" from the call_pic.asp file which is an example of how you protect a page with javascript and call a streamed image using an image tag.

Lasty, here is a great article I found on image protection and some of the things you can do about it and some of things you cannot.

http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID =41

, site looks fine in ie and also firefox from a windows machine..

I dont have a mac and I have not heard of that browser before

Sounds like an issue with the way that browser handles and puts together html/flash in relation to the layout of your site which is fairly complex

less likely - could also be related to computer processor/resources as that is a decent sized flash file and could bog down certain machines on the client level.. internet connection as well ?

those are my guesses.. I dont see anything wrong from windows xp web browsing from a fast machine and on broadband.. looks pretty nice actually ,

This is what "John Evans" of CJWSoft has to say on the matter...

"I think that’s pretty much impossible. If the server sees a .JPG or .JPEG extension why in the world would it go and try to read it or do anything with it.

I believe there may have been some issues with Outlook and Outlook express that made it look like a vbs script sent as an attachment was actually a JPG because someone found an exploit in those programs and it would appear as if double extension files were one thing when in fact they were not.

Having a real time virus scanner on the server (which any good host will) should also catch anything infected being built on the server drives as the file uploads. Always worked for me and I had a lot of people uploading ZIP files on winxptheme.com at one point. Many had viruses in them although I suspect it was totally innocent on the end users part. Some people didn’t even know they had a virus on their rig.

Fact is anything is possible but I think chances of getting a virus or being hacked in some way from this sort of upload are really slim."

cwilliams38447.0602083333,

The setting I am most interested in is what you have for the "Pic_Max_Image_Width" used when the image resizing components resize the big image

setting it to nothing or zero could cause this

,

The problem with that is when a user deletes an album, the album record does not get deleted from the DB, so counting all the records would return the accurate result. :(

Any hints?

eeye38433.0290740741,

this error really does not mean anything specific

Your browser must support a standard called RFC 1867. Please check with your browser vendor for support of this standard"

If you get an error its real weird that the file is being uploaded.
Generally if you get an error during upload it is because of one of these 3 things

Invalid physical path specified

Unsupported upload method chosen

Permissions

See my article on XP and permissions
http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_xp_pro_and_permi ssions.asp

many people dont do their permissions right on XP Pro and that article covers everything

,

If you code support for it yes, the application comes with no paypal code or support built in.

If you think it will help you, you are welcome to a copy of the classic asp version which supports paypal subscriptions. Perhaps looking at the code would help you.

, like I mentioned are you by chance running something like Norton Antivirus Script Blocking ?? That can cause timeouts and all sorts of problems with ASP as can other software like it. , to finalize this thread.... turns out I was correct and this person was not unzipping the zip file correctly. , Then you should have current enough code.

If you PM me the encryption key you are using and the plain text password for this user I can see if I can reproduce the error and come up with a fix.

I believe you found one of the rare examples where the encryption creates a strange character that messes up things. Sometimes those characters are not even visable.

Changing the password should solve the problem in the meantime.,

Chris -

Long time no talk, which is a good thing.  I have purchased another product from you, ASPVendor.  I am running into an issues.

When I try and remove the image through the image manager, it does not remove it.  Screen shot attached.

Thanks

, Is there somthing I need to change in the settings to get the hit count to update?,

I'm using the groups protect feature on my pages. None of them seem to close the session after clicking 'logoff'. I can tell because if I hit the back button and return to the group-protected page, hit 'refresh', the page refreshes, I'm not asked to log in again.

On the other hand, when I open a page that's protected by an access level and click 'logoff' (uses same logoff asp file to logoff), it seems to work fine - if I go back a page and refresh, it asks me to log in.

Just wondering - is anybody else having problems like this? Maybe I screwed something up in the few adjustments I made a while back. Any idea what it might be?

,

Christopher,

Thank you again Sir. Your quick responses and helpful demeanor add greatly to the value of your software.

,

Okay, here's the problem.  The out of the box sql script creates a catalog called aspphotogallery and a user id aspphotogalleryuser.

The out of the box GalleryConnectionString tries to access a catalog called aspgallery and a user id aspgallery

'*** GalleryConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=p600laptop;Initial Catalog=aspgallery;User Id=aspgallery;Password=temp;"

I see the readme.txt has been corrected but the line in dataconn_inc.asp still needs to be changed.

lancem38325.9032986111,

The reason is obvious, the file is called aspprotectlogin.aspx. It is self advertising for your product which is against the law for me to do on a government support website such as mine. Every other login system I have come across uses the login.aspx file. If I can’t change it I will file with the credit card company and return your product. I do like your product and hope to stay one of your customers. I will let you know, thanks for your help.

Error when click on banner. (I remove on error resume next in config_inc.asp)

The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.

banner_redirect.asp, line 36

Database - MS SQL Server.

Gignutyi38368.5403935185,

It appears there is an auto logout after inactivity for a period of time.  How does one change the default time allowed for inactivity?

thx

,

YES.. you need to edit your SWF file to link to the aspbanner system...

example.. the link may look something like this
http://banserver.powerasp.com/aspbanner/banner_redirect.asp? Banner_ID=60

of course you need to put in the right information for your site and whatever banner ID it is in your system

Like it says above.. if you save the new banner at least once and then come back to edit that link will be generated for you at the bottom of the edit page.

then when your flash banner is clicked on it will go track the click and then send them to the "link_url" specified for that banner when you edited it.
(you need to enter the final destination url there if you want that to work)

, The way the application works is one separate installation and database is required for each (IIS Application).... not only is it a licensing thing but it is also the nature of (forms based authentication) because every application in IIS has it's own set of application and session variables and they can not be shared with other various IIS applications.

That being said if you plan to run a separate install for each web/IIS application buying new licenses is fine

If you want to run one installation and database and share that with other web.IIS applications it is not technically possible.

Each web/IIS application requires a seperate install of ASPProtect.NET,

I understand the encryption for security, but I am using ASPP for a very low security function and don't want encryption.

Can't I simply delete the code that does encryption?

If not, how can I

take my ASPProtect_access2002.mdb that was opened on my local host, with my own users added with text passwords,

export to a delimited text file, import it into ASPP with my own passwords encrypted, the use that file instead of my old .mdb file? Thanks

,

I'm having another problem-hopefully it's a quick fix.

If i try to login as a user in the Http://localhost/aspprotectlogin.aspx page

it tries to go to a page: default.aspx

Server Error in '/' Application.

The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Requested Url: /default.aspx

When i log in as admin from the aspprotectadmin/default.aspx that works fine...

where should the user be sent when they log in? Am i supposed to specify that or is it automatic? Why isnt it working for me? I dont believe i changed any settings that correspond to that either

,

When adding a new user I am taken to a form.

There are several "required fields".

First and last names are 2 of them.

This is not needed by me and I need the company name as a required field instead. I work and deal with company names, not individuals.

So, i am unable to add any users due to this.

How can I either do away with the names as a required field or swap the individual names with the company name as a required field?

I have customers wanting to be able to view their own stats, but I need to do away with the required fields to work with my customer base.

-john

,

It's just a generic error that means one of 1000 different things is wrong.. there is a lot of information on in in these forums as well as links to articles about it.

http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=27& PN=1

usually it means permissions to the database folder are incorrect or the physical path you are specifying for your dsn-less connection is invalid..

everything has to be perfect
