I will actually explain how to set access_levels and/or groups...
in "users/add_new_account.asp"
carefully edit with a text editor
find this part
CmdAddUser.Fields("Access_Level") = "4"
that is where the acess level gets set...
you can change the level or remove that line all together if you dont want one set
now for groups you would add this line in the same area
CmdAddUser.Fields("Groups") = "*3*"
or
CmdAddUser.Fields("Groups") = "*1*,*2*,*3*"
Groups access for a user is stored in one field in the database like you see above. If you are confused what you should be saving in that field I suggest simply setting a user to whatever groups you want via the admin area and then looking in the database to see what got saved in that field. It's pretty simple really how they are stored.
*1*,*5*,*9*
that user would be a member of groups 1,5, and 9 , Hi,
That is not enough to go on. I need details in order to help. ,
just leave the databse where it is, use the connection string generated for you and most importantly... put in a request with alentus for permissions to be set
tell them "D:\Websites\www.mysite.com\aspprotect\data" and all of its child folders need change permissions (r,w,x,d) set so aspprotect can do its thing
until the permissions are set that connection string can not work
this is all noted in the installation docs... , How and where does one add countries/cities to the list so that they appear in the Drop-Down list that advertisers see when they are placing a new ad?, Hello..
I actually noticed something was up with your install earlier... (I saw you in my log files when you clicked to cjwoft from the docs)
I need more info... like what uploading method your using.. what image resizing component, what widths yoru resizing things to... etc
have you tried it while telling it to delete the pics and also while not telling it not to delete them from the import folder
I might have to take a look tommoro as well to really figure it if that is ok
I have to go the bar to meet some friends so I wont be of much more help tonight :)
I been working steady all week and need a few.
CJW , Hello,
for an admin.. you view albums for a user.. make a new album... then click manage pictures
for a regular user you log in.. go to user user area.. create an album..then click on manage your albums , yeah.. thats an old graphic probably only seen in a few places.
it is not on the main site http://www.cjwsoft.com/ or here http://www.aspprotect.com/ or here http://www.aspbanner.com/ or here http://www.aspclassifieds.com/ or here http://www.aspphotogallery.com/
but I am sure there are a couple of pages left over still using it like the aspvendor and asplistings pages.. etc I am aware of it, just been too busy to go change them and I didn't consider it a big deal
2003 servers are NT based anyway , After you click the link in the confirmation e-mail you are directed to
the Thank you page. Right above is a sign in link. When I
click this I get that funky error message.
I am trying to integrate the scripts with the look of my
site, if that is what you mean by changing things around too
much. But, I don't think I have done anything out of the ordinary.
Cheers,
Roy
, Parent paths being enabled on the server is a requirement of the application. That error means just what it says.
you can change all the server side includes to virtual includes that will work or you can ask you host to enable parent paths.. those are the options
more here... http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo5-1.htm
, Thought this would be easy. A few more pointers should get the database connection to work:
1) How do you decide whether it is a DSN (system datasource) or not? Does just putting the file in the ODBC make it so?
2)We have other files in there for other server applications, does that mean we’re stuck using DSN’s or is the file independent of that control dialog?
3) Assuming we get rid of using DSN for this database (or not), does the code go referenced in your article http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/permissions.asp apply here or should it just work?
What else are we missing? , We have upgraded to IIS 6, but as I recall aspbanner continued to
work fine for at least 3 months after the upgrade. I would like
to reinstall, but I cannot find the zip file.
Cookies are turned on in my browers, I've tried both Internet Explorer and FireFox, niether stay logged-in.

, SQL Server Datareader Datawriter Permissions..
here is a screenshot that shows how to set datareader and datawriter permissions on a database using "SQL Enterprise Manager"
In this example we are making sure the aspbanneruser has those permissions on the aspbanner database in the SQL Server
 cwilliams38390.5986921296, No worries
then..
is there any way I can get rid of those information shown on User activity screen, so I can at least know who logged in current day?
thank you in advance , And here is an even simpler version where the database name is hardcoded and the User_ID is set ahead of time from wherever you are getting it from
'User_ID = CmdListUsers("User_ID") ' getting it from another database query User_ID = Request("User_ID") ' getting it from the page post
SELECT COUNT(Album_ID) AS Alb_Count FROM Albums WHERE User_ID = " & User_ID & " AND Album_Active = 1" cwilliams38433.0595949074, Is there somthing I need to change in the settings to get the hit count to update?, This is great FREE SQL Server Web Data Administrator App from Microsoft..
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=C03 9A798-C57A-419E-ACBC-2A332CB7F959&displaylang=en
It is an ASP.NET web application that you install locally on your development server and then use to connect to a SQL database whether remote or local.
It can do nearly everything enterprise manager can do.
I have tested it and it works great for me. cwilliams38325.7453587963,
I am not entirely sure how one configures
the system to assign a user to a specific group. For example, let say I
have created two groups A and B, and I have pages protected by the code
generated in the admin area for groups A and B. I know I can assign access
to these groups in the admin area.
However, it is not clear to me how I do it automatically
through the registration process.
, Everything is running fine.. I can read ads... reply to them. but when I click sign in or register.. I get a server error.
Any suggestions
Thank You , This is amazing. You replied to question within minutes. Thanks for showing such a professionalism.
, Thanks for the info. We'll do as you suggest.
NPA , Hi,
Could you please advise what may be causing this error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x57a4 Thread 0x5474 DBC 0xf03a704 Jet'.
/ASPProtect/check_user_inc.asp, line 292
Funny thing is that if I refesh the page with the above error it gives me the following eror:
/ASPProtect/check_user_inc.asp, line 292
and after few times of refreshing the page it shows me the page I am after.
Is this my promlem or ISP's.
Thank you , I have ASPProtect up and running and I was able to log in with little to now problem after following all of the directions.
I imported my data base of users (approx 5300) into the access db, and now it times out just letting me log in.
I've got full access to the web server to make any changes on that end that I need.
any ideas?
, sure and thats probably what you should do... that pure asp upload thing must not be able to handle the size of your import file... another thing which can very .. also some versions of IIS require registry changes to upload bigger files via asp code alone , Is there any way to make the ads in ASPClassifieds end on a day of the week. I would like all of my ads to end on Sunday night and was wondering if there was a way to automatically do that in the database??
Thanks
Dave
, humm, I see your using the lite version which is technically not supported.
I know you were responding to an existing thread but I really would rather you have posted this in the ASPProtect Lite area or at least mentioned what version you are using. Usually there are big differences in the versions and it helps me help you if I know what is going on.
Regardless, the code for this feature is actually the same and I just tested a fresh install of the lite version and it stored that verify url perfectly and all worked as it should in the verification email.
All I can think of is that you can try manually editing the "users/add_new_account.asp" file.
This part
EmailBody = EmailBody & "New Registration.." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & "Your registration still has to be validated." & vbCrLf & "Go to " & vbCrLf & VerifyURL & "?u=" & Server.URLEncode(Request("Username")) & "&v=" & ValidateEmailCode & vbCrLf & "to verify your registration." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf
Would need your verify URL hardcoded into it which would pretty much guarantee it would get put in the email.
EmailBody = EmailBody & "New Registration.." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & "Your registration still has to be validated." & "http://localhost/aspprotectlite/users/v.asp" & "Go to " & vbCrLf & VerifyURL & "?u=" & Server.URLEncode(Request("Username")) & "&v=" & ValidateEmailCode & vbCrLf & "to verify your registration." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf
Of course change the url to be valid for your setup.
Still, the fact that this isn't working means there is something wrong with your installation. It would probably be a good idea to erase everything, do an iisreset, and re-install the application in a different directory... immediatly log and go to the settings page, carefully set everything and save it... then register as a new user and see what happens.
There is no reason that variable shouldn't get set. I mean I tested it just now with a fresh install of the version you are using and not only that... 1000's of people have been using that same code for over a year in the full version and no one has had this problem except the guy who started this thread who never populated the value.
My guess is still a problem with your "IIS application" for that web. It is not doing it's thing for some reason. When the settings page is saved and application variable gets set telling the config file to reload the variables as it doesn't do it every time to conserve resources.
If that isn't getting triggered and that variable isn't getting set who knows what else isn't getting set and it's not pratical going around hardcoding 15 important variables., Tell tell me some info about your install?
How am I supposed to know what is going on when you are not showing me what you have in your web config file and also the directory structure of the install or what you are putting in a page you are trying to protect ? It almost sounds like you are not editing the paths correctly in the various places. I mean yes you told me something about the "map" folder but what I saying is tell me more detail.
BTW: this is a very important setting in the web.config file and must be edited accordingly so the path is right.
<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" />
Basically your showing me random errors and posts left and right and I honestly have no idea what your doing ?
Ulitmately though I am trying to help you in this situation like the web site says.
We offer tech support for installation of the base application purchased in it's native form. In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine.
Meaning I am not going to keep this up if you keep asking question after question after question regardign your local XP Pro installation. There is only so much I can assume or guess when you are running this on a local development server. I know you got all sorts of problems getting a decent live server to run this on but that just isn't my problem. Get this up and running on a professionaly and correctly setup live server and when these random configuration errors pop up atl least I can go run the pages and look at them. Right now I am just confused by nearly everything you have posted today. Half of looks like basic ASP.NET path issues that you need to sort of on your own based on where you installed the application on the machine and what you have in the web.config file.. etc etc etc
It is sounding more and more like ASP.NET is way over your head. If you want a copy of the classic ASP version of ASPProtect you are welcome to it. I think you will be a lotter better off sticking to classic ASP unless you really start reading up on ASP.NET and learning more about how forms based authentication and the web.config file work. , I just finished implementing the V7 product on our site and someone made mention that on the profile form where you are asked all your personal and user information there are 2 fields for passwords. The first field uses masking to hide the password as you type it, where the second shows it in clear text.
Now we know that the only people able to see the password are the user and the administrator, but it is playing mind games with my users as they think there is a problem with the application. I am not a programmer (however, learning ASP slowly now!) and am not sure if you did this on purpose or if it is a bug?
If it was done on purpose, can you advise how I can make the confirm password field masked as well to eliminate the unfounded questions!
Thanks , Need to clarify something..
Your talking about the page where a new user registers right ? Your not talking about adding a new user from the admin area ?
Either way under no circumstances do I see anything like you are saying happening nor has any other ASPProtect user ever mentioned this probem.
I am going to need to see your site and see this happening. It just makes no sense the way you are describing it.
Also. did you edit the registration page code in any way. If so please revert back to an original copy to ensure this is not some sort of problem introduced by editing the code. cwilliams38164.8115046296, that is good news... good guess on my part I guess
anyway, try this for your latest issue.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=340&KW =%2D1, humm, yea thats a data connection error.. really not related to the asp code in the application for the most part.
that is low level
If using MSACCESS
I would make sure permissions are set correctly on the database folder (not just the database file itself)
I would make sure your using at least a 2000 version of the database. 2003-2003 format being better..
I would make sure the server has up to date mdac/odbc drivers.. (that is really the server admins responsibility)
As for permissions there are articles in our forums about exactly how they need to be set. Improper permissions can cause a ton of random errors like that.
cwilliams38414.6528240741, But can you guess as to why the following might be happening:
1) The password is still "temp", and we verified that by checking dataconn_inc.asp ; 2) People are able to place new ads, etc. ; 3) We then download the DB. Sometimes we are able to open up the DB just downloaded with the password "temp", but only see the USERS table. At other times, we cannot open the same DB with any password, and get a "password not valid" message even when using the password "temp".
So what can the problem be? , I checked through the code and could not find anything as well.
However, I do think it may be related somehow to the code as I get the messages popping up in the error log only after I have edited a banner.
If there is nothing obvious, I may just set my error log to filter and automatically delete this type of error. Not something I prefer to do.
Thanks for the quick response.
Otherwise the program is working very well and I'm happy with it.
, More info on the groups session variable.
Session("Groups") will contain the ID numbers of whatever groups the user is a part of. It does not store the descriptive name of that group. It will show the same data that is actually stored in the "Groups" field in the database.
for example it might hold a value like this
*2*,*5*,*9*
meaning a user is part of groups 2, 5, and 9
so if you wanted to check to see if a user was part of a particular group you would do something like this
<% If InStr(Session("Groups"),"*9*") Then Response.Write("You are a member of group 9") End If %>
Taking this even further, if you really wanted to get a particular group's name or description you would have to query the database like so. In this case we ask it the name and description for group 9.
Group_ID=9 Set ConnPasswords = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") ConnPasswords.Open ConnectionString Set cmdTemp = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Command") Set CmdEditGroup = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") cmdTemp.CommandText = "SELECT " & tbl_label_groups & ".* FROM " & tbl_label_groups & " WHERE (Group_ID = " & Group_ID & ")" cmdTemp.CommandType = 1 Set cmdTemp.ActiveConnection = ConnPasswords CmdEditGroup.Open cmdTemp, , 0, 1 Group_Name = CmdEditGroup("Group_Name") Group_Desc = CmdEditGroup("Group_Desc")
, Thanks
It wasn't a complaint. I just bought it last night and installed it today. But, I must have missed the part about requiring Enterprise Manager for installing it on SQL.
If you want it the link to the Web Based SQL Manager is : http://www.aspenterprisemanager.com/ which is free and the Trialware that I tried is EMS SQL Manager.
Maybe that will help a little in not requiring that people have an MS SQL license to access their hosted MS SQL to install the software.
Thanks
, I am not talking about image resizing. I need to know if it is possible to limit the upload to images where their height or width is less than 500 PIX. , Has this been resolved ?, Hope the wedding went well. I have one this weekend.
I was successful at performing an upload. The free upload software was either not configure properly (probably) or not working. I downloaded the trial version of softartisan's upload (which is like over $300) and it started working.
Can more than one photo be uploaded at one time (like a whole folder full of photos) or does each have to be done individually? , sorry for the confusion. I completely forgot about that flag setup, and how different it is between the two databases., trust me, they (serverobjects) do not check processors.. as a matter of fact they haven't answered support emails for about 3 years. All they do is sell those components like hotcakes and take in mad crazy cash. But I will say the stuff does work well and always has. (that guy probably took all the money he made/makes from those components and took off to Jamaica or something sitting on the beach drinking margaritas)
regardless, ASP just cant resize pictures on it's own. It' just not possible. You need a 3rd Party component.
There isn't much to say about the ASP.NET thing.
If your server has ASP.NET installed (meaning you can run aspx pages on your server and the ASP.NET framework is installed) and running you just pick that option in the config file and ASP Photo Gallery will use ASP.NET to make dynamic thumbnails for you.
To run ASP.NET it must be a 2000 or 2003 server. , See, and that's what I thought. What's interesting is that if I call either an aspx page or an asp page in the iframe tag, it asks me if I want to open the page, it doesn't display it. I'm using IE6 so there's not problem with the support for the tag.
I'll keep looking to find out what's going on. I think the iframe method might work best.
