ASPProtect and PayPal are fully automated and ready to go.
Accounts will automatically get activated after payment.

We actually do not tell you to put nothing in the PayPal system for the IPN URL. Something has to be there or PayPal will not let you enable IPN. We actually tell you in you PayPal settings to turn on IPN and make up an IPN url because something has to go there. (I think we suggested making a blank asp page on you're site to send it to) It really doesn't matter where you send that but it might as well be a valid page on your site to avoid any 404 errors in your logs when a non ASPProtect payment comes in.

You see, we dont set that IPN url set in the PayPal system because each ASPProtect signup script directory (single payment and subcription) uses it own IPN url and that all gets set on the fly by the aspprotect system. There is a way to overide the defaul IPN url is what I am saying.

Also:
A  lot of people already have something there and we didn't want the ASPProtect system to interfere with things they already had going on.

cwilliams38421.530787037,

How do I recover or reset admin password used for the aspprotected pages. I have installed it months and months ago, but now can not recall the password. Any help appreciated, as I do not feel like installing it again.

,

ahhh ok.. I was going to wait till morning to answer this one..

glad ya figured it out

,

Has any one used the aspmail function to send emails from within your site? If so what did you use as the AspMail_Host string in the connections database?

thank you

,

I just told you a lot of different things to try... and I doubt you have tried them in the time since I mentioned them

,

it is by design actually and something that can be improved
(I just never thought of it when I 1st designed the system and it is actually planned to be added in Version 8)

The trick would be to reset those session variables anytime someone edits and saves their information... not very hard at all

you would do it on the save code page for when a user edits themself.
you want to grab the info posted from the form and  reset each session variable at the same time everything is re-saved to the database

example

Session("Company_Name") = Request("Company_Name")

,

You edit the web.config file that came with ASPProtect.NET.

You find this tag

  <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" />

you change it to this

  <customErrors mode="Off" />

If you have a different web.config file in your root I suggest you make sure the tag is set to off there as well for troubleshooting sake

If done correctly you will get a detailed error
It's basic low level ASP.NET stuff really and does not have anything specific to do with ASPProtect.NET.

You also need to make sure your web is set up correctly for ASP.NET and that the correct web.config's are firing..etc etc

cwilliams38454.4368055556,

If I would like a link on my web page that will take someone to the login page (I would also like this page to contain forgot passord? and register)   I am not entirely clear what file to link to to do this.  Would it be check_user_inc.asp?

Thanks in advance?

cwilliams38456.0972106481, Ok...thanks., it makes zero sense really... in the 4 years we have sold this application this is really the weirdest thing anyone has had happen..,

ok

thanks

,

IT worked just as cwilliams said. I did see the IP address being stored in the table but it didn't dawn on me that it was tied in to the view count, I tried it from a different IP address and it worked great .

Good coding Christopher

Thanks

John

Hi,

First and foremost, a great product. I downloaded it last night and it took little effort to get it up and running

.....now a little question...

Has the software/code been tried out on a Mysql db and if so did it work?

The reason I ask is that my website is very busy (1.5million page views per month avg) and I'm considering converting the ASPBanner Access db to a Mysql one to help handle the traffic. For every page view one banner impression is being made which means that the Access db is under a bit of pressure

This afternoon there were 1012 simultanious users on the website and it froze with an error message displaying where the banner should have been (I didn't quite catch the message but something to do with the banner script timing out). I'm not sure if the Access db had something to do with it but it seemed too coincidental. Rebooting the server cured the problem but obviously kicked off the visistors as well
At present there's 668 online and no problems so I'll have to monitor it to see how it goes but if anyone can answer the Mysql question I'd be grateful

Thanks,

Dave

,

yes. what you are talking about has to do with norton ad blocking software.. it blocks images or paths that have the word "ad" in them.. and you see red x's where images should be on web sites.. usually

it is different then what this thread initially mentions which has to do with a code/server issue with the application variables.

,

rrabago

I have been looking over the code and also doing some tests.

So far everything in the code looks correct and everything I have tried has worked correctly. If I select an access level and active users it is not sending emails to inactive users as you stated.

Are you using the option pack ?

cwilliams38103.9618402778,

thanks... a review at aspin is always appretiated ...no one ever seems to do a review and they help me out a lot.. the aspprotect admin area header has a link

thanks...

,
Yeah, its working great witht he Access database. Now I just need to get it all set up. I like how the config file is set up with all the comments, it really helped allieviate the 40k thumbnails, .

One quick question though, and I haven't looked through all the code yet... Is there a quick way to have pic_window.asp open full screen by default? I just want to minimize having to either scroll through, or maximize, the screen

Thanks!!!

,

You can mix and match banner calling methods all you want.
Try it and see what happens.

However, the only method that is going to work on non ".asp" pages is the javascript or the new iframe method listed in the support forums.

cwilliams38209.532349537,

Making progress. I have made the appropriate settings and now I have the option to upload.  When I upload, I get the following message:

"Your upload did not succeed, most likely because your browser does not support Upload via this mechanism.

Your browser must support a standard called RFC 1867. Please check with your browser vendor for support of this standard"

I am using IE6 XP SP2.  I also am using DUNDAS UPLOAD, ASPIMAGE.

I think I set permissions correctly bot not positive.  I have given all auth to everyone for the database etc.

, Actually quite well.  I have this problem worked out and it actually isn't to bad.  But  now I am getting some strange error messages.  I will start another post.

Cheers
Roy
,

No can do.  In both cases there is an icon that says "Not uploaded".  I click in it and nothing happens.  There is no link to upload.  Am I missing something?

By the way, I appreciate and am impressed with your rapid response. Thanks.

New Power Supply and a new (CPU Fan/Heat Sink) seemed to do the the trick. She's running like a champ now...

Hopefully it keeps doing so. Only time will tell.

It she's stable I can get back to designing some new software.

cwilliams38296.9772800926, YAY! I FOUND A BUG IN MY TESTING!!! Do I get a cool t-shirt or a coupon for Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream?

Hehehe... seriously, thanks for digging deeper and spotting the error. You got some mad skillz and some excellent service, Mr. Cwilliams!
, That's because when the page rebuilds, it uses the default number of users per page setting. You'd have to modify that default setting to have it do things differently.  I used to have mine set to 500 users, until I got past 300... then it wasn't fun to show all users on the page anymore.  I now like 10 per page and searching for specific users as needed.

But that's me. If you hack a COPY of your default.asp file (with the original backed up as above), you can get the value set to one you prefer.

If you want me to find the value, post and I'll look for it later on. If you want to find it yourself, happy hunting! Just be sure to have a backup in case you do the wrongest thing possible in your haxxoring.
,

It's not working because i guess im copying the viewstate also...and it comes up

Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.

,

I log all 404 errors on my site and since installing ASPBanner, I get a lot of the following error:

/aspbanner/edit_banner.asp?Banner_ID=11&User_ID=1 contains a broken link:

/aspbanner/right1.gif

ID changes and there are various missing links.  Some missing links include:

/aspbanner/drop2.gif
/aspbanner/left1.gif
/aspbanner/right2.gif
etc.

While not critical, these are filling up my error logs and it takes time for me to sort through them.

,

Just having the database with members does not protect the page.  You need to add the appropriate code to every page you want to restrict access to.

You need to click on the Groups tab in Admin.
Click on Generate PW protection code.
Click on the basic button if you don't want to include levels or groups or choose a level or group(s) and click the appropriate button.
Paste the code that's generated  into the top of an ASP page in code view.

Is that what you're looking for?

Michelle

,

I have been working on this. 2Checkout is like the most confusing and worst payment processing company on the planet. There are things about that page I just don not understand as many times as I read through it.

Doesn't seem like this stuff is mandatory just yet. (I asked)

I should have something soon.

,

humm, I dont know.

If you want me too I would be glad to go into your web site and troubleshoot. If so PM me the info I need and I will take a look and see if I can figure it out.

, We would like to give a member an opportunity to upload an image when on their profile page. How does this work with the photo option on the settings page? Is this the intended usage? Thank You. ,

I'm having another problem-hopefully it's a quick fix.

If i try to login as a user in the Http://localhost/aspprotectlogin.aspx page

it tries to go to a page: default.aspx

Server Error in '/' Application.

The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Requested Url: /default.aspx

When i log in as admin from the aspprotectadmin/default.aspx that works fine...

where should the user be sent when they log in? Am i supposed to specify that or is it automatic? Why isnt it working for me? I dont believe i changed any settings that correspond to that either

, I am trying to import a database into my list of registered users.  When I go the import_export_manager.asp page most of the content is missing.  All that appears is the first 2 lines of text and a box.  The rest of the page is blank.  I have tried this under 5 different browsers on 3 different machines and on 2 operating systems.  I also ftp'd the original .asp file with no success. Any clues? ,

Sorry, I guess you did say you finally found them.
Regardless, sorry then, I tried

I dont know what else to tell ya.. except to search www.aspin.com

Perhaps you will find something you can use there.

,

really all depends on the sql connection string you are using and the names of your sql user you are using...

you really havent described very much..

I'd double check all of it.. something is wrong

cwilliams38325.8892824074,

Is there a way to know if it is a SQL server with IIS5? My database type is MSACCESS.

Thanks!
Rhona (rookie)

, I just got home from a lonnng trip.. I will try to answer this 1st thing in the morning.

CJW, Hey, I thought I'd share this tip with the ASPProtect community...

If you'd like to remove, modify, or add fields to the "Users" view in the password_admin default.asp page, it's really easy to do. Well, at least it was for me. I'm using an MS Access database, by the way.

For me, I don't need "Company" info, but I do need last access and # of times accessed displayed. Therefore, I had to change the default page in three areas:

In /password_admin/default.asp, go to about line 185 or so, where you see stuff like:
<td valign="bottom"><font face="Arial" color="#000000" size ="2"><b>First&nbsp;Name& lt;/b>&nbsp;</font></td>
OK, those are the column headings. Each one corresponds to a column from your USERS table in your database. There are two more areas to consider, both of which appear immediately after this section.

The next section has statements that look like this:
<td valign="bottom"><a href="<% =THISPAGE %>?SORTBY=First_Name+ASC&MyPageSize=<% =MyPageSize %>&Keyword=<% =Server.URLEncode(Keyword)%>"><img border="0" src="../images/sort_ascending.gif" Alt="Sort Ascending"></a><a href="<% =THISPAGE %>?SORTBY=First_Name+DESC&MyPageSize=<% =MyPageSize %>&Keyword=<% =Server.URLEncode(Keyword)%>"><img border="0" src="../images/sort_descending.gif" Alt="Sort Descending"></a></td>
See the "First_Name" items? The first is for an ascending sort, the second for a descending. This particular line corresponds to the code snippet immediately above it. But all this does is handle the sorting. For the actual data, look lower for this stuff:
<td bgcolor="<% = Cellbgcolor %>"><font face="Arial" size="1">&nbsp;<%= CmdListUsers("First_Name") %& gt;&nbsp;</font></td>
It's a good ways down, so don't be impatient if you don't see it in 10 lines from the end of the last mentioned section. This stuff handles the display of the data from the database (where else ya gonna get data, anyway?)...

Now, to remove a field, you need to find the three sets that go with that data. The ascending/descending sort is potentially the trickiest, because it's the longest set of data and can take a number of lines. Just clear it from the start td to the end /td and you'll be fine.

To *add* a field, copy and paste the code from an existing field and modify it. In the first one, the column title, you can type whatever you want to describe your info. Nobody but you and your admins will see it. For the next two sections, though, you need to get the correct column heading from the USERS table and use that to correct the lines in the copied code you pasted in.

For example, when I added a column to show the number of times a user logged in, I copied the above snippets and pasted them in where I felt the column I needed should be. Then, in the first one, I changed "First Name" to "Logins". In the ascending/descending snippet, I changed First_Name to Counter. Same for the last snippet.

The result? A new column, showing the number of logins my users were successful with.

Of course, before you experiment, back up your existing default.asp file, JUST IN CASE.

Have fun!

,

Thank you for the response to my question. In the mean time if I can figure any workaround I will post it here.

,
Rather than bill customers through my PayPal account in $$$ can I get ASPProtect to send through the amount to PayPal in £ (pounds sterling)?

I am using PayPal (non-subscription) [paypal_signup]

Many thanks

Ian
,

this could go on forever...

if you want PM "private message" me info to log into your site.. show me the pages we are dealing with...

and I will take a look at it all...
