Rather than bill customers through my PayPal account in $$$ can I get ASPProtect to send through the amount to PayPal in £ (pounds sterling)?

I am using PayPal (non-subscription) [paypal_signup]

Many thanks

,

ahhh ok.. I was going to wait till morning to answer this one..

glad ya figured it out

,

Well, thats not normal.
(it should work just like our online demo does)

Do you have everything turned on in the settings ?

Uploading needs to be enabled and you also have to pick a valid upload method.

, Hello,

While there is no option in the admin area / asp code we give you here is what I can tell you.

You have the source code and we also use an open database structure. (MSAccess or MSSQL) So that means you can really run any query you want on the database whether with ASP code or directly in your database.  You can even tie other systems and code into the database via OBDC and manipulate data. The sky is the limit.

In MSSQL you can run queries in SQL enterprise manager or query analyzer. Using Access you can run queries in query view.

It's really not that hard if you do some research on SQL Statements and how to use them. You can do some very powerful queries and save yourself a lot of time. ,

Hi,

I did some layout customizing on the register page on my site. ( http://www.lonestaricon.com/aspprotect/paypal_sub_signup/reg ister.asp)

Now when I tried to register, it seems like it goes to the next page, but it is blank.
( http://www.lonestaricon.com/aspprotect/paypal_sub_signup/add _new_account.asp)

If I log in under administration, it shows that I have registered. I can't seem to figure out what part of the code is wrong, so that the new account page will not load.

I'd would greatly appreciate any help with this.

Thanks,

Allison

, OK, thanks..,

ya,

any variation of a site url is going to have its own set of application and session variables.. soy you have to be consistant with your navigation links

example (for anyone that comes across this thread)

http://www.examplesite.com/somepage.asp

is going to have a different set of application and session variables then

http://examplesite.com/somepage.asp

even though they are basically the same page

,

yes, like macnap says.... you have to protect your ".asp" pages the way the directions tell you to...

and like in the "example" protected pages we provide

or they will not be protected and nothing will happen as far as ASPProtect goes

I guess I just didnt understand what you were talking about

, Having a quality professionally set up ASP.NET server that is going to support your needs is CRITICAL whether it is yours or someone elses. Them saying they will not set permissions is useless. Quite honestly Network Solutions is a joke when it comes to ASP.NET hosting. They are all about CHEAP MASS HOSTING and that is not where you go when you plan on running complex ASP.NET applications. What good is ASP.NET hosting if you can not permissions set on folders you need it for? A lot of people run ASPProtect.NET and their hosts set permissions for them without issue. We made one folder that they could click on and set all permissions at once easily. If they truly knew anything they would understand that and set permissions for you in a heartbeart. You have to have a correctly set up server or a hosting company that is serious about your ASP hosting needs.

I mean you come to us with this mess of a situation, we tell you its a bad setup. We tell you to rebuild the server correctly or make a new one. Now instead of doing that you come to us with another mess of a situation.  Now you act all frustrated because you have spent so much time on this. How the heck do you think we learned everything we know ? Do you think we have never spent weeks on a problem or stayed up for 4 nights in a row without sleep. That is how you learn and it is called experience. I have no sympathy for someone that complains about how long something took because I am right there with the best of them and I have paid my dues.

Have you by chance read all of this thread below because despite what you keep telling me you are totally falling into this category.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo234-1.htm
Granted you may not be "Joe Coder" but you are definetly "that guy" who doesn't really know what is going on with ASP.NET. "that guy" who sets up his own server and knows enough to be dangerous. You definetly have enough sense/basic skills to dig around and read articles and try things but when you are on the wrong track that only helps out so much.

Also: I really was pretty tired when I got home last night, but now that I really think about what you did with that webserver/domain controller is about the worst moves possible when it comes to IIS hosting setups.. That is just SO BAD !!  Now, don't think that I haven't done some REAL stupid things in the past. John too, like the time 5 or so years back when thought he could make a Windows XP Pro webserver for serious non development use . Anyway, that is how you learn. I suggest you get your server running correctly (not a domain controller) or you get a real host like www.alentus.com for your asp hosting needs. I mean you can get an account for like 10.00 a month and end all these headaches right now. I even know one of the head techs there as well as the general manager. Their ASP and ASP.NET support is 2nd to none.

You may not like what I have to say, (hell, I can pretty much guarantee you won't) but I tell it like it is and in the long run you will be better off for it.. We spent a ton of time developing the .NET version of this product and we sell it way less than it is worth especially since we provide source code. It is an awesome product, but if the server isn't truly and correctly supporting ASP.NET or they host will not set permissions than it is out of our hands. As far as I am concerned anything else is a waste of everyone's time. I am not going to play that game. Quite frankly, you need to get your stuff together. Nothing you have come up with so far has anything to do with a bug with ASPProtect.NET. Everything has been server related.

QUALITY HOSTING !!!
PROFESSIONALY AND CORRECTLY SET UP SERVER !!!

THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE !!!
, If by permissions ou are reffering to the IUSR with write/execute
permissions, they are already set. I get this error when I hit the 'Create New
Export File From Current User Database' link:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a004c'

Path not found

/ASPProtect/password_admin/export.asp, line 76

Any other suggestions?,

If you want to have a login form on a non protected page that posts
to a protected ".asp" page use code like this.

Change the action of the form to the page you want them to log into.
Make sure to page you send them to is protected by the "check_user_inc.asp" file.

the sql databse is the same.. the sql script is the same for any version

as the site says they are essentially the same app with very minor changes... if you are trying to share the same sql database with both it's not gonna happen because the table names are the same

truthfully:
that app runs nealry as well with msaccess as it does with sql so I wouldnt get too excited about running it withe sql. You will not see any benefits unless you have a ton of simultaneus (sp) users.

cwilliams38312.1125115741,

OK.. I went with using ASPEMAIL.  The above did not seem to work.  No worries though, where there is a will (with options) there is a way.

cwilliams38394.7265162037,

I am also getting the "Unspecified Error" message.  I just transferred my site to IIS 5.0 and I get that error now.  However it does not happen everytime.  I can click on a page and it opens fine and then I hit refresh in the browser and I get the "Unspecified Error" message.  What could be causing this?

, Okay, I'm going nuts trying to find that settings screen.

I've got a dedicated server that I connect to using "Remote Desktop Connection" so it looks like a regular Windows desktop. It's running Windows Server 2003.

There's a program called "IIS Manager" but I've looked at all the options for all the different sections and I don't find anything that looks even remotely like that screen.  And, of course, Windows Help is no help at all.

What program do I run to get to that configuration screen?

  Thanks,

, download the free version...

check out this tutorial...
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo169-1.htm

If your application can post to the page and provide all the form variables needed to log in it may work out for you..

You'll have to try it out... all the form variables needed are in that login form example.

Basically you'd be posting to a protected (.asp) page..
and providing the following for the most part.. how your app creates it post data is on your end...

<input type="hidden" name="Status" value="Checkem">
<input type="text" name="Username" value="Yourusername">
<input type="Password" name="Password" value="YourPassword">

As an alternate scenario...

Now, by default the "check_user_inc.asp" file is looking for posted form data... for security reasons it is not looking for querystring info..

If you change this bit of code in that file

from

Username = Replace(Request.Form("Username"),"'","''")
Password = Request.Form("Password")

to

Username = Replace(Request("Username"),"'","''")
Password = Request("Password")

It will then grab either form or querystring data...

Meaning you wouldn't necessary have to create a true post to the page with form data. You could just access the page via a querysting like so

http://www.mysite.com/somepage.asp?Status=Checkem&Userna me=Yourusername&Password=Yourpassword

Of course that introduces security risks as the username and password would be passed in plain text over the net

Another option is...
You can also make a copy of the "check_user_inc.asp" page called whatever with those modifications just to use in pages you need your little application to post to... thus reducing the security concerns a a bit as the rest of yoru site could still have its pages protected under the normal scenario.

I hope this answers your question... I havent really ever tried any of this but that is how I think it would work... , no, and none of the ASP based systems I know of can do anything like that.

A zone can only produce 1 banner at a time.

What your are talking about I have mostly only seen done using very complex javascript code available freely on the web if you search. ,

If you have an album with more than 96 pictures, the spacing in the tables can become incorrect, with pictures touching each other. (This program is not designed to handle more than 96 pictures due to server speed, but it can handle more than 96 with minor changes to the code.) Also, after 96 pictures, the pictures will not have 6 on a line, but rather 6 on a line up to 96 pictures and then the rest of the pictures on one line next to each other extending to the right of the screen endlessly. To fix this, I simply edited the ASP code using the following loop. It can be a perminent fix, because I used the maxpicsperalbum variable to define the spacing.

<%
Dim SixInterval
For SixInterval = 2 to maxpicsperalbum
 SixInterval = SixInterval + 5
%>
 <% If PicIndex = SixInterval THEN %>
  </tr>
  <tr>
 <% End If %>
<% Next %>

Then, the following code must be commented out:

<% If PicIndex = 6 or PicIndex = 12 or PicIndex = 18 or PicIndex = 24 or PicIndex = 30 or PicIndex = 36 or PicIndex = 42 or PicIndex = 48 or PicIndex = 54 or PicIndex = 60 or PicIndex = 66 or PicIndex = 72 or PicIndex = 78 or PicIndex = 84 or PicIndex = 90 or PicIndex = 96 Then %>
 </tr>
 <tr>
<% End If %>

This code can be found in scripts/view_album_style*STYLE NUMBER*_inc.asp . (STYLE NUMBER depending on which style you are using (found in config file))

This change in code will enter a new table row after each 6th picture. You can have more or less than 6 pictures per line depending on the width of your files and preference by changing  changing the number 5 in this line of code: SixInterval = SixInterval + 5

jamapor38210.5987384259,

so use the connection string the readme.txt in the sql installation folder file tells you to... it has the correct username.. I just posted that info above

or change the username in the connection string so its rigfht

or go into sql and give any user you want access to the database and use them

Any connection strings that come in the datacon_inc.asp file the way it ships are examples. We fully expect people to edit them.

Also.. the SQL scripts primarly goal is give you a properly set up database with correct files and table settings. Users and permissions often need a little extra attention from the installer as that part doesn't always get set right by the scripts It really all depends on what sql user you are when you execute the scripts. Many times the user someone logs in with doesn't have permission to make users and set permissions.

cwilliams38325.9116898148,

thats a new one... I need some sort of error to go on..

No error ever ? It must eventually show something ?

, yea.. keep us posted... thats weird,

These Settings:

Picture upload feature settings.

Use_Picture_Upload < = value=True name=Use_Picture_Upload> Check this if you will be using the picture uploading feature.
UploadDirectory < size=60 value=C:\Inetpub\virtuals\aspphotogallery.com\Web\demo\pictu res name=UploadDirectory>
Example:  "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ASPPhotoGallery\pictures"
Ask your server admin if you are not sure.
This directory needs proper permissions for the SAFILEUP component or the VBSCRIPT solution to work correctly. It basically needs to same permissions as the database directory would need when using Microsoft Access.
PictureURL < size=60 value=http://www.aspphotogallery.com/demo/pictures name=PictureURL>
Example:  "http://p600laptop/ASPPhotoGallery/pictures"
This is the web URL of the the upload directory specified above.
Use_SAFILEUP_Upload < = value=SAUP name=Upload_Solution>
This option will enable file uploads using a component called SAFILEUP which is high end upload component available from www.softartisans.com. It is far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution.It is highly recommended for a busy site.  If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error.
Use_ASPUPLOAD_Upload < = value=ASPUPLOAD name=Upload_Solution>
This option will enable file uploads using a component called ASPUPLOAD which is high end upload component available from www.persits.com. It is also far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution.It is highly recommended for a busy site.  If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error.
Use_DUNDAS_Upload < = value=DUNDAS name=Upload_Solution>
This option will enable file uploads using a (FREE) component called DUNDAS UPLOAD which is a high end upload component available from www.dundas.com. It is also far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution.It is highly recommended for a busy site.  If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error.
Use_VBSCRIPT_Upload < = value= name=Upload_Solution>
This option will enable file uploads using a pure VBSCRIPT solution. It requires VBSCRIPT version 5 or higher to be installed on the server. The solution usually works fine, but has been reported to cause memory leaks on XP machines.
, ok, I am going to do that in the next few hours. I cant do it right now as I have a few other business's and something else needs my attention right now.

Chris,

I'm using ASPimage and have the maximum width set to 320 in the settings.  Also using SAFileUP ver. 4.0.

Files upload okay, and the script displays a confirmation that the image was resized to 320, but the actual image uploaded is displaying full size rather than reduced to 320.

Also, the thumbnails are not displayed in the Picture Manager. Would indicated ASPImage is not working or the script is not communicating with it.

Suggestions?

lancem38326.9070486111,

I am getting closer.

This error actually does not have anything to do with the forgotten password feature or your database.

It has to do with the settings you chose for emailing.

it relates to aspmail and it not liking the remotehost you used, or something like that.... etc etc

, Thanks dude, I'll figure it out.  I've been ripping apart pieces of the code to get it.  I'm in the process of pulling some things out to make functions that do specific tasks based on your code.  I actually had a lot of luck yesterday with it. ,

I run F-secure on my laptop which has the anti-virus and firewall modules, and the servers aren't running anything like that.

,

also.. the log out page shouldnt really need this
but you can try adding this to it where all the other ones are set to nothing..

<% Session("Groups") = "" %>

cwilliams38341.7215046296,

Hi all

User activity screen shows history of logged-in users.

Is it possible to view only those users that are currently logged in ? not the all users that have logged in previously

thanks in advance

,

I installed the ASPProtect.NET project no problem.  I am using VS.NET 2003 on Windows XP SP2 (and fully patched).  I am able to build the project successfully, however I cannot debug the project.  I get an error "Unable to start debugging on the web server. The project is not configured to be debugged."  The web app runs fine just browsing to it.

I know this is an isolated problem particular to this project.  I have MANY other .NET projects that I can debug without any problems.  I have tried going into IIS and turn on the debugging for server-side script debugging and making sure my IIS application setting were configured correctly.

Can anyone shed any light on this at all?  Christopher, is there any reason I should not be able to debug this?  (i.e. the aspprotectlicense.dll)

Thanks,

K

,
Hello,

As I have my site hosted by a web hosting company (1and1.com), I want to make sure the ASP Photo Gallery software runs correctly before I buy. I am not sure about whether or not they support parent paths because I can find nothing in the online faqs. But, I have two other ASP apps (Forum and News from Web Wiz) running on the site, both connecting to Access databases. I remember having problems initially setting these up because I kept trying to use paths like ../db/wwforum.mdb like I would normally do when referencing images or pages in other folders.

Anyway, here are the database connection strings for the two apps. The first is for the Forum, which is at /forum/common.asp connecting to a database in /db/wwForum.mdb. The second is for the News, at /news/common.asp accessing /db/news.mdb.

'Virtual path to database
 strDbPathAndName = Server.MapPath("/db/wwForum.mdb")

'Database connection info and driver
strCon = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=" & Server.MapPath("/db/news.mdb")

Thanks for your help, hopefully I'll be setting up my new galleries this weekend!

,

if that account isnt there thats normal because if it doesn't have any permissions for that folder so it wouldnt be listed

you simply dig into the menus a liitle deaper and find it then add it.

cwilliams38417.6984606481, I have been told it does as I got about 5 people or so who upgraded but I have not used SQL 2005 yet. I'll order a copy., ya it should have uploaded that no problem...

what about something blocking the use of the filesystem object and causing these timeouts ?

Your not running anything like Norton Script Blocker are you ?
Its part of Norton Antivirus or Internet Security and causes all sorts of problems with ASP when it is running on a server. Especailly when using the filesystem object to deal with text files and when uploading via pure asp.

It could be the cause of the all these problems or something like it ?

It will cause a timeout like your getting and give no real reason why.

More info on that.
http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2180, ASPProtect version 6 does not officially support any sort of redirection or is it a feature.

You can however do redirection after login with some basic ASP if-else statements and ASP redirects. Basically you check the session variables after successful login and send users where based on that info. You of course also need to protect any pages you send users to and make sure any people that aren't supposed to go there do not go there directly and bypass your security.

I highly frown on Redirecting during login (In my opinion it is poor site design and it defeats the purpose of dynamic web pages, there is seldom a good reason to even need to do it if you design your site well) but you can check out this thread which should give you lots of good information.

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=17&KW= redirect, I have no idea of what kind of 'stuff' to try. I'm running other asp apps that use there own Access databases with no problem whatsoever.,

The default database password is "temp"

This is noted in the docs. You can also see the current password by looking at your connection string.

cwilliams38176.7913888889,
Christopher,

I have a follow-up to this question.

Is there a way to get the photo descriptions to save with actual spaces instead of the HTML space code all of the time?

I know that is does this if you hit Enter while typing a description, because it creates a 'br' tag. The main reason I am asking is because if the user does not enter a line break, the description is saved a single long string  and the pic_window.asp page is generated with one long description which makes the page very wide.

I tried to get around this by changing the description style in pic_window.asp to reflect a value like 50% or 200 pixels, and I have tried putting it into a table with a fixed width, but there is no effect.

Thanks!

,

That bit about zones makes perfect sense and seems surpassingly simple for me to integrate due to our categories and page contents being based on the same if/then functionality.

Regarding the user, I guess you mean that I could simply recreate a limited admin interface for users based on the interface you have included for me, is that correct? I realize how subjective the question is, but do you think that this would be a bad idea?

I'm leaning toward your software here. I have a budget that could easily cover a variety of programs, but the UI for advertisers at banmanpro, for example, seems far too complicated for my users. Also, banmanpro doesn't have supporting compatible softare I am interested in, such as your classifieds software.

I guess I am trying to buy a good shell from which I can do my own customization and coding, and into which I can integrate future additions such as your classified ads. Does this seem like the right place to be?

Thanks much for your time!

,

Is there anyway to limit the number of Albums each user can make?
