Ok i am having an issue with my other comp. I have spent ANOTHER 3 hours researching this one.... it WONT START THE IIS SERVICE!!!
I get this error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion
ANYWAY---
I decided to use one of my client's hosts; which happens to be Network Solutions.
ANYWAY again-
I uploaded the whole thing there and they advised me they cannot do the explicit permissions on that _database folder. This is what they said: I would also would like to point out that ASP.NET applications and permissions do not extend to any other folder, other than the root, (/htdocs/), and the bin, (/htdocs/bin/) folders. Sub-directories and folder after bin and htdocs will not have ASP.NET permission (read or write).
If you could move or reconfigure your application to save all your code behind, include and dll files onto the root or bin folder, your application could work or possibly run as you would expect. Please have this done and retest your application. If and when you get a different problem or another error after doing so, please let us know, and we shall be happy to help you troubleshoot any problems that you may have.
There is a 'create database option' where i can create a database..create a dsnname, user name, password and have to specify the database file name. Once i do this i need to place the database file (aspprotectnet2002.mdb) in the /db folder within the root. I also tried this and made the appropriate change in the web.config but it STILL DOES NOT WORK. I AM PULLING MY HAIROUT WHY WONT ANYTHING WORK.
ALL THE FILES ON ON THE ROOT OF THE WEB HOST. I PULLED THE FILES OUT OF THE _DATABASE FOLDER AND DUMPED THEM ON THE ROOT. I CHANGED THAT ON THE WEB.CONFIG BUT ITS STILL LOOKING FOR SOME .XML FILE IN THAT _DATABASE FOLDER.
I'VE BEEN TRYING EVERYTHING AND IT SEEMS THAT I CANT USE THIS SOFTWARE FOR THE LIFE OF ME , its a text file you just edit it with notepad.. if ya mess it up ya put an original copy back in
no biggie either way
jump in there..
I just showed ya exactly what to change.. its a no brainer man This is simple source code. It's meant to be edited and hacked.
The only reason I warn you is so you can't blame me later on if it effects something
I am just trying to help
If ya dont like that solution why not just use periods for the first name field.. or a dash or something... then nobody will really see it
or maybe store the company name in the first_name field
seems like clever things to try without changing the code..
good luck... cwilliams38326.870474537,
You know what, you really are frigin goofy to say you might think we
didn't write the software. I got source code to the license dll as well
as about 12 revisions of the application sitting on my development
server as well as about 1200 emails between John & Myself as we
worked on it. Not to mention all those .vb files that come with the
application. What do you think those are ? I bet you don't even really
know based on something you said in one of your earlier forum posts.
Did you even read this cause this is YOU... !!! http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo234-1.htm And we say right on the ASPProtect.NET product page to read that article before making a purchase.
Moving
on... it basically says on the site ASPProtect.NET works the way
it is shown to work. You can use it that way or you can further edit
the code with Visual Studio.NET. If you are so good with asp.net then
you should be editing the code to work differently or writing your own
authentication that works exactly how you want it to. End of story. You
keep arguing about things your done... you are so done !!! I won't keep
putting up with you., well, ultimately it comes down to this and this is stated in the footer of every page in the cjwsoft family of websites.
"In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live professionaly setup server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine."
and if you have some sort of weird timeout going on on your local machine and cant even give me a detailed error message there is just no way I can possibly troubleshoot it... I told you what to check and thats really all I can do... all my applications run on XP. As a matter of fact I do all my development on XP boxes.
It could be any numbers of things... odbc drivers, versions of vbscript... other software on the pc interfering such as antivirus script blockers like norton... all sorts of issues can pop up on personal machines running xp
If you put this up on a live professionally setup web server I can help you. On your local machine there is only so much I can suggest. , from the import page in the admin area.
The import/export file must be tab delimited with no text qualifiers. The 1st row containing field names and the following each being a new user. To create your own import file it must be in this exact format. To find out what field names and their order are simply create an export file using ASPProtect and take a look at it. You can also import that text file into MSACCESS. , good news.. like I said it is probably becuase aol blocks emails sent from IP's with no MX record in the dns system , who knows, thanks for your input, I am further than I was when I started talking to you!,
The reason is obvious, the file is called aspprotectlogin.aspx. It is self advertising for your product which is against the law for me to do on a government support website such as mine. Every other login system I have come across uses the login.aspx file. If I can’t change it I will file with the credit card company and return your product. I do like your product and hope to stay one of your customers. I will let you know, thanks for your help. , Is there an easy way to make this work with reoccurring a monthly or yearly subscription? , works fine now , I'll give it a shot loading it on the laptop and publishing it, if it doesn't work I'll let you know and you can take a look at it tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for all the help tonight...
Good luck pouring that concrete! , (FREE) Nov 23 2005 Update Files
If you purchased ASPProtect Version 7.x before Nov 23 2005 then you can download these Update Files.
(These are non-critical updates.. only update if you want the described changes below)
These updates do the following..
- Make the Tabs in the Admin area move up and down as you navigate around so they look more like tabs used in a file cabinet.
- Updates the import/export process so the tab delimited text files created now store the passwords in plain text instead of encrypted. I have been thinking about this one for a while now and I think it is better this way as it was confusing a lot of people. If can also kill the whole process if by chance the encrypted output of a password contains a line break of sorts. There is no way to deal with that scenario so this is way the import/export process is going to work from now on. This also means you should be VERY carfeful about leaving export files lying around as they will have the passwords in them.
- Updates the "expected_paths.asp" in the data folder because the paths it was generating had an extra "data/" in it.
- Updates the users page so it will not show the import/export link if you have not entered a path for the export files in the settings.
- Adds an Activity Tab if using the Activity Tracking features instead of the links it used to put on the users page that most people didn't see.

To install these just copy them in over the old files.
Now of course back up your existing files so can revert back if there is a problem or you do not like the changes. If you made any custom changes to any of your pages use your head and realize that copying these in over your existing files will overide any custom changes you made. (that is your business, I am just warning you)

, all that docmunetation is online as well right here so you dont really need the chm file http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/info24.htm
the chm format is a windows format that can only be viewed on windows pcs. I do not know why you can not see it. I would do reseach on viewing CHM files on whatever operating system and version you are running because perhaps you are using a mac or linux operating system which can not natively view chm files ?
, the email address thing could be done many ways... personally I would remove the username field from the registration form.. and modify things so the email field got used for username and for email when everything gets saved on the page that register.asp posts to. ... it would all require some messing around with the code and time... nothing too hard really
as for the password thing it all happens in the register.asp file.. the same page the registration screen is on in the web browser.. again a little bit of fooling around and time but not difficult , You should read my article on server side includes… the path to the include file must of course be adjusted depending on where in your web you are. http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
You will also notice if you look at the provided example pages that the include paths have been adjusted to make sense.
If it is 2 directories down it should probably look different..
example:) "../../checkuser_inc.asp"
It’s weird that if you are not getting an error because if the path to the server side include is wrong you should get a nasty server error.
Also..
The ASPProtect system and any pages it protects must also be part of the same Application in IIS. It’s the nature of forms based authentication. Do a google search if you are not sure what an application is in IIS.
Lasty…. If you are logged in at the time
Whether your current session at the site is still active… or you have the cookie set to remember you.
Well, nothing will happen… cause your already logged in and you will just see the page as normal.
Perhaps things are working and you just don’t understand that part ?
You need to go to the log off page.. log off… then close all instances of the web browser windows..
Then come back to the site… then see if it prompts you to log in. cwilliams38228.9837152778, Can you be more specific on the javascript I should look for? To be very clear: We are looking for experienced ASP Development/Hosting Companies that are serious about being a reseller and ready to go. We need knowledgeable resellers that are experienced with ASP and will be able to install the application for the customers and handle some of the general installation issues that may come up.

ON THE OTHER HAND IF YOU ARE A GOOD SIZED COMPANY AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING WE WE"LL HAVE A WONDERFUL AND PROFITABLE RELATIONSHIP. cwilliams38426.5449537037, This is what it says in that thread I pointed you to
This zip file contains 3 sets of alternate files depending on your situation. You simply replace your existing aspprotect v7.x files with these new ones.
I really dont see what is confusing about it. I think I explained it all in detail in that thread. , Regarding hosting companies..
Now.. obviously if you are hosting on someone elses server you may not be able to set permissions like this.
Ultimately, if you are hosting somewhere and ASP and Database connectivity is part of your hosting plan. It is the hosting company's responsibility to set these permissions for you when asked or to give you a special interface to do so on your own. If they are not helping you do this then maybe it is time to get a hosting company that is serious about your ASP Hosting Needs.
Also... JUST TO BE PERFECTLY CLEAR
The permissions we are talking about cannot be set via FTP or Frontpage access to your web site. They must be set like shown above or via a special interface meant to set the permissions correctly. For all you people out there messing with the permissions you see in FTP and Frontpage.. you are wasting your time and possibly creating problems in your web.
All ASP scripts that communicate with an Access Database, Upload Pictures, Modify Text files.... are going to need these permissions set in some way or another. We have no control over that fact. cwilliams38360.69125, yes, there is upgrade pricing http://www.aspprotect.com/purchase_v7_upgrade_pricing.asp
and upgrade instructions here in the forums
if you install it in the same directory structure you wont have to make any changes to the pages in your site you have already protected.. because the code to protect a page will be the same
now, anytime you upgrade an application like this there is going to be a lot of work involved especially when there have been so many changes http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo173-1.htm whether or not you upgrade is up to you
Like I said you can make version 6 work with CDOSYS and a remote email server. You just need to do some research on CDOSYS code and spend the time needed to make the code use it. I however am not going to spend time detailing all of that when I created a new version that does it.
, Did you do what that thread said so you see a more detailed error ?
Can I see the site and look around.. ? I just am not sure what is going on from what you are explaining ?
If so private message me with the admin account details and tell me what to do to reproduce the error. , well, I just tried a password using "abcdefghi" and like you said it did not work
I am looking into that.
Also, it seems I had the SQL scripts creating the "Old Password" field just in case someone needed it and I forgot about that. , Yes, you are right.
We have now tested it using the DSN less connection with Access 2002 and it works fine. We have also tested it again with a DSN using 2002 and this also seems to work.
The comment about speed is a consideration although I have not noticed any differences. ( we only have a few database entries at this time).
Thanks for your help , I just upgraded from 6.0 to 7.0 primarily because we were limited in the choices of email systems we could use to send an email validation message.
Previously, with 6.0, we were using CDONTS to send an email validation message to new registrants. Unfortunately, AOL email addressee's were not receiving the vaildation email from us. I received a reply to another post I made on this forum that the problem was due to the fact that aCDONTS generated email has no MX record and AOL blocks non-MX record containing emails.
Well, I upgraded to 7.0, switched to CDOSYS (Using SMTP Virtual Server) with SMTP Authentication and it appears that AOL is still blocking the validation email.
Any suggestions, comments?
, Sorry, I guess you did say you finally found them. Regardless, sorry then, I tried
I dont know what else to tell ya.. except to search www.aspin.com
Perhaps you will find something you can use there. , Kurt,
There really is no default width in general.
The thing to remember is that the default.asp page includes a lot of different pages.. and some of those pages also include pages.
Now all of this gets wrapped by the header and footer include files so in a sense what you do there can effect everything inside to a certain degree.
Now there are some widths set here and there for different tables and what not on certain pages, but its really the kind of situation where you just have to dig around in the code and experiment until you eventualy find what you are looking for and get the desired result.
I'd love to tell you there is easy way to just set a width, but it is not that simple.
Maybe someday it will be. Just not in the current version.
CJW , The sql script creates aspgalleryuser
dataconn_inc.asp out of the box indicates aspgallery as the user.
GalleryConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=127.0.0.1;Initial Catalog=aspgallery;User Id=aspgallery;Password=temp;" , (Password_Email_Confirmation_Mod) for ASPProtect Version 7.x
This will change the basic registration pages so that the email address and password entered must be confirmed when signing up. This eliminates the auto generated password during signup.
Some may prefer it working this way.

Directions: Back up your existing ASPProtect installation.
Copy the two new files into your "users" folder
"register.asp" "add_new_account.asp"
2005-12-01_182201_Password_Email_Confirmation_Mod.zip , Dear Christofer
I already have send you the details you asked me for. Please let me know if you have received , Honestly cannot comment much about v7 since it was just installed on a new server. We have been running 5.03 for years so I'm looking forward to the new features in v7.
Lance , Glad it worked cwilliams38406.5549074074, I have a solution for asp already but thanks anyway. Is there a good book or other learning tool I can purchase that you might know about? I would know where to start about how create a timed subscription in .NET. , Thanks, I'll take a look.
Nick , Hi Chris
I've just recently purchased ASPBanner and have been testing out serving multiple Tradedoubler code using the IFRAME method. I have four types of banner on the same page refreshing every 15 seconds. (this will change on the live site)
I've been leaving the IE page up for x hours and coming back to find between 1-3 of the banners has stopped and in place is an "internal error".
BannerZone=3&Refresh=15|40|800a0046|Permission_denied 80
I thought it may have been the SQL permissions from one of your other messages so I gave the banner user the DataReader and DataWriter permissions.
Its still happening and around the same time in the logs theres a couple of file not found errors.
BannerZone=2&Refresh=15|23|800a0035|File_not_found 80 - 80.65.240.159
BannerZone=4&Refresh=15|25|800a0035|File_not_found 80 - 80.65.240.159
BannerZone=1&Refresh=15|25|800a0035|File_not_found 80 - 80.65.240.159
Any ideas? I'm hoping its not the server as there is currently only 2 sites on it and this is pretty much the only traffic.
Thanks
Colin , I made the changes like you suggested, but now the page just times out before even loading.
<% ConnectionString = "DBQ=D:\clients\rklarman\DrWeisbergUsers.mdb;Driver={Microso ft Access Driver (*.mdb)}" DatabaseType = "MSACCESS" %> , no the "expected path" is something that gets generated for you if you have parent paths enabled. to help you fill things in correctly...
basically if parent paths are enabled it shows you what the path should be for each path field on the settings page... if parent paths are disabled there will be nothing to the right of expected path for technical reasons (lack of being able to do a "../../" to figure out the paths more or less)
in that case there is a file called "expected_paths" in the data folder that you can run to tell you the expected path info , Hallo,
Can I change the number of the access levels?
I want to have about 20 levels...
, the reason being is because when I do installs I do not touch any of your existing content. I only install the base application and make sure everything in it working correctly and also that the example protected pages are working. I do not integrate it with your existing site or edit any of your existing web content. That is up to you
sorry about that, but it would be way too time consuming and editing people's existing pages is a good way to cause a lot of headaches for me and the customer if something goes wrong. Not only that but everyone uses the system differently and it wouldnt make sense for me to be the one doing that based on access levels, groups.. etc etc which will all be custom to how you want things set up.
more on installation policies here. http://www.cjwsoft.com/installation_service.asp
, But can you guess as to why the following might be happening:
1) The password is still "temp", and we verified that by checking dataconn_inc.asp ; 2) People are able to place new ads, etc. ; 3) We then download the DB. Sometimes we are able to open up the DB just downloaded with the password "temp", but only see the USERS table. At other times, we cannot open the same DB with any password, and get a "password not valid" message even when using the password "temp".
So what can the problem be? , noted.
1.) this has been explored and because of the way groups works is not feasable. Because us this I wrote code to allow you to view and sort all users for any group on the actual groups page. You pick a groups and then click the "Show Users" button
2.) noted ,
