Yeah, its a win2k server.
Im up and running now (my guess is ASP wasnt installed, but he did not say), but am not having luck with any of the email. I contacted my host to see what is available and have yet to hear back. Do you generally recommend people to run CDOSYS?
Ive been reading through the docs, and the users and protection seems to be pretty straightforward. Nice!
The only other real question I have (and cant find in the docs) is how to remove the self registration option all togehter. My client wants to add its users manually, and not give the option for them to sign up themselves. Do I just find any remove any code that references it? , The ASP error on the home page has been solved -There was aproblem with the path that was including the home page file and we fixed it.
However the error on the member page remains - any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. This is the error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for
process 0x748 Thread 0xad8 DBC 0x214734c Jet'.

,
been working on this for about 5 hours today.. I think I found the problem and it involves a vbNullChar that the encryption process is creating only during login attempts
it then messes up during ASPProtect authentication because it blows up the SQL Statement to the database
like I mentioned before the chances off this happening are slim but possible as two people so far have been able to create the situation
I seem to have the HANNAH password working now using your encrption key
I need a little bit more time to clean up the files I have been working on. Then I will give you new "check_user_inc.asp" and "check_admin_inc.asp" files to try out , MODS are NOT SUPPORTED.. questions about them will not be answered in the support forums. If you want to use a MOD you are considered an advanced user and will need to sort out any issues that may or may not come up.
MODS are used at your own risk and may or may not require certain basic coding skills. , That is by design, removing and deleting are two different things as far as the classifieds system goes.
A regular user can only remove an ad from the category index. (which makes the ad inactive)
An admin however can truly delete an ad from the system. , Hi Chris:
Is there a way I can include the username and password in the URL of a protected page to gain access to a that page without going through the log-in page?
I'm not quite sure what the syntax would be in the URL.
Warren ,
Ok, set up a new web.config in root, with just the suggested code.
that worked to get this....

any ideas?
Andy
, I have been working on this. 2Checkout is like the most confusing and worst payment processing company on the planet. There are things about that page I just don not understand as many times as I read through it.
Doesn't seem like this stuff is mandatory just yet. (I asked)
I should have something soon. , No can do. In both cases there is an icon that says "Not uploaded". I click in it and nothing happens. There is no link to upload. Am I missing something?
By the way, I appreciate and am impressed with your rapid response. Thanks.
, Christopher
I have gone back to your original files and uploaded them to another server folder and instead of using a DSN I have tried this with a DSN less connection and changed the database to MS Access 2002.
This has corrected the problem. I will check this out again using the DSN with access 2002 to see if this was the problem. It may be something to do with an older format of database on this particular server.
I will let you know what I find.
Thanks for your quick reply. , Hello,
You'll need to find a validation function to test for it. Either server side or right in the form via client side javascript.
I dont have any experience with validating zip codes here much less UK.
Google it would be my best advice.. or maybe find some free app written in UK format and see how they did it.
Good Luck..
And if ya find anything post it here if ya like cwilliams38381.5607638889, I am up to speed on how it works. My goal was to not have just a link to a protected page- so that when a user clicks it they get the "access denied" screen and then have to log in. My goal was to avoid that if possible by having them log in and then redirected to the protected page.
So this isnt possible? The only way for it to work is for a user to click a link to the protected page, get the denied screen, then login and be redirected?
Or is there another way..?
I made my point by rebuttling your "cafepress" with agreeing "YES" that is what i want... now you are changing this around on me. I dont think i can be ANY clearer in what i intend to do. It is extremely clear and i am not sure why its becoming more than it should be. I just want the user to be able to log in from ANY PAGE ON THE WEBSITE AND THEN BE REDIRECTED TO THE PROTECTED PAGE IF THE HAVE THE PROPER CREDENTIALS. It would be nice if this software gave an error message when an incorrect username/password was entered instead of simply refreshing the screen. , I think I've got it to work somewhat. I modified the 2checkout1 & 2 asp file to use and pass Product_id. It now identifies the product correctly. I'm good fo now. Thanks for the info though.
-Jason , ASPProtect version 6 does not officially support any sort of redirection or is it a feature.
You can however do redirection after login with some basic ASP if-else statements and ASP redirects. Basically you check the session variables after successful login and send users where based on that info. You of course also need to protect any pages you send users to and make sure any people that aren't supposed to go there do not go there directly and bypass your security.
I highly frown on Redirecting during login (In my opinion it is poor site design and it defeats the purpose of dynamic web pages, there is seldom a good reason to even need to do it if you design your site well) but you can check out this thread which should give you lots of good information.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=17&KW= redirect, User Information
After a user logs in there are variables that you can always access. They can be used to check various things or to display information dynamically based on who has logged into the system.
Session("PasswordAccess") Session("Access_Level") Session("Admin") Session("Active") Session("Expiration_Date") Session("User_ID") Session("Groups") Session("Redirection_URL") Session("Password") Session("Username") Session("First_Name") Session("Last_Name") Session("Company_Name") Session("Email") Session("Address") Session("City") Session("State_Province") Session("Zipcode_Postal_Code") Session("Phone") Session("Custom1") Session("Custom2") Session("Custom3") Session("Custom4") Session("Custom5") Session("Custom6")
You can display them on a page at any time using Response.Write like so
<% Response.Write(Session("FIRST_NAME")) %>
or like this
<% = Session("LAST_NAME") %> cwilliams38419.533900463, ok.. so we got an NT server with a 486 with 256 meg of ram.
hehe sorry
anyway.. I have the system running without doing any importing and WOW is it chugging.. I mean it takes a while even to edit/save a user
good news is the filesystem object works as I wrote to a text file
this may end up being a simple case of lack of horsepower..
we may need to do the importing on a faster system and then take the database over cause everthing I see on your server looks correct
even so aspprotect is running so slow.. I have never seen it chug like this
I even tried connecting to a 2000 version of the database and no difference.
I am not totally sure what is going on but the server resources available are scaring me... however this could be something new in the code that I never got a chance to try on NT server.. I dont think so though
how does your other stuff run ?
static pages that do not access a database seem to serve up quickly.
are you running any other dynamic code ? , Aspprotect issue
I need the ability to allow users to view url links on a page, based on the
group(s) they are a member of. If the user is the member of one group (group 1 in the following example) the code works fine.
<% If Session("GROUPS") = "*1*" then %> "view link #1"
However, if the user is a member of more than one group (let's say 1 & 5), I cannot make the code work.
I have tried various versions of wildcards, nothing seems to get me there.
I fairly new at ASP, and I am sure I'm missing something simple.
Any help would be appreciated.
, the txt file is only lke 624 kb...so I'm not sure, Ok nevermind that... i got by that wasn't paying attention...
The problem is even before this which i didn't know until now.
I placed the protect tag in a page i called members.aspx
When i go to this page is says ACCESS DENIED etc etc etc.
When i go to login to view this page i get the error..which i DIDNT know because i assumed it was working. This is the error im getting:
Server Error in '/MAP' Application.
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
Requested URL: /map/users/aspprotectlogin.aspx
Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.42; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.42
btw it says /map because that is the subfolder within the root folder , I've got an ecommerce module that's running on it that uses access for the db. Connecting into that thing is slow as well, but I figured that's because of the complications and volume it handles.
So as far as importing on a faster machine and copying it over to the server...what suggestions do you have? , You cant do it from initial lohin, but you can do it from the time of registration signup. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo170-1.htm
As for the emailing thing it is most likely an email sending issue more than a code problem. For example spam filters incorrectly grabiing those emails or something of that nature..
Best thing to do is try different things for emailing options until you get something that works. I suggest using CDOSYS with a real email server and using a valid email account for yourself at that email domain. SMTP authentication if necessary. This will ensure the emails sent have valid MX records and dont get treated as spam.
, well, I just tried a password using "abcdefghi" and like you said it did not work
I am looking into that.
Also, it seems I had the SQL scripts creating the "Old Password" field just in case someone needed it and I forgot about that. , I Dont know... it shouldnt do anything like that.
if it ever asks to download a aspx or asp page its generally a server configuration issue not related to the actual code
provided you arent trying to grab the injectbanner page through an iframe call which is only for use with the javascript method of calling banners , Christopher
Thanks for a speedy reply. This is what I have used most recently...
ListingsConnectionString = "DSN=longreach;UID=lradmin;PWD=skipper;" DatabaseType = "SQL"
but that throws an error of:
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
I have private messaged you my SQL server IP address. I am a fast learner with ASP (I think!) but some things really catch me out! , Flash files cannot track clicks unless you edit the original flash file to link to the aspbanner system redirect URL.. feeding it the correct ID of the banner.
When that link is clicked on it will then track the click and redirect the user to the “link url” specified for that banner.
The system actually generates the necessary ASPBanner URL for you. That link is shown on the banner edit screen.(you must save the banner at least once and come back to that screen to see the link though)
Really the best way to show it is with an example as seen below.

Basically the flash banner file "powerasp.swf" highlighted in green needs to be edited to link to the banner redirect url which is highlighted in red.... the banner redirect url will then track the click and ultimately send the user to the Link_URL highligthed in blue.
All banners systems work this way when it comes to flash files. It’s the nature of flash and the web browser,
The flash source code must be edited to link to the redirect url in the ASPBanner system. There is no possible way any banner system can track a flash click unless the flash file links to the banner system 1st.... because that click is handled by Flash and the web browser.
In some cases if you do have the original source file for the flash banner then you are out of luck as far as tracking clicks goes.
On a side note... if you create flash banners the way this article says you can actually feed a .swf flash file a link for it to click to. Instead of it being hardcoded.
http://www.macromedia.com/resources/richmedia/tracking/desig ners_guide/index.html
This is really the way everyone should design their flash banners from now on because the url it links to can be easily changed at any time without editing the flash file source code. cwilliams38325.740162037, OK, so I misread the instructions. Wouldn't have been the first time
that happened... but I just had an account get created, guy then
paid, and... no activation. I had to go in the next day and do that by
hand. What should I do to look for troubleshooting on the issue? I've
got all the default directories set up and all the files where they
should be. What next?
, i was only kidding!! , Dear Support Team
I have read and Installed your v8 banner software
exactly as explained on XP pro which contains other asp working app.
I have problems with the " Application " and " Session" in your scripts
things that make the iis fall dead.
also in the file asp _unlimited_config.asp
you have exlained that every thing must be kept without the "" marks.
well i get http 500 error cause of it.
Please advise
Thanks
Ran
, They send an email?
Hope my spam killer didn't zap it...
, Yup everything looks ok - but why no error?
This just gets better - now the email a friend link says sent successfully and doesn't send out - what the heck...
What would cause it to 'think' it is doing the task yet still fail? , I was actually able to do similar thing by allowing our dedicated search engine to access the site unchallanged.
<% If Trim(Left(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_USER_AGENT"),11)) = "MYPASSWORD" Then SearchFlag = True End If If SearchFlag <> True Then If Session("Access_Level") > CHECKFOR or Session("Access_Level") = "" Then %> <!--#include virtual="/Auth/check_user_Code.asp" --> <head> <title>My Title</title>
</head>
<body>
My Protected stuff here
</body>
</html>
For this to work, the search engine must pass the PW to the web site. I just was not sure how to do the same thing with IPs. I will play with the code and see what happens. If it works, I will post it here to help others, if this is OK with forum rules.
Thanks,
Mo , Okay, so I copied the txt file into the export file and tried the import users option and it timed out on me as well.
Would it be easier to figure out if you were able to look at the iis server? , It seems that if a user attempts to access a page that is not in their access level or they do not have the group permission they are redirected to the login page. Re entering their ID generates an eror and they cannot go back to the pages they are alowed to access. Is there a way for them to simply be blocked and return to the previous page or to a defined page so they can continue using the site?
thankyou , it makes zero sense really... in the 4 years we have sold this application this is really the weirdest thing anyone has had happen.., I have been able to successfully edit some text colors, but there seems to be one page that wont change the text color. Inside the users/ folder, the login.asp page, i cant seem to change the text color from ffffff to 000000 so it can be read on my background color. Every page in the script is correct but this one.
Thanks. , I wouldn't bother doing that. If pic uplading doesn't work it is most likely permissions to the directory pictures are uploaded to. If they are not set correctly it will not work. That dir needs the same permissions the database folder needs. , Christopher,
I have a follow-up to this question.
Is there a way to get the photo descriptions to save with actual spaces instead of the HTML space code all of the time?
I know that is does this if you hit Enter while typing a description, because it creates a 'br' tag. The main reason I am asking is because if the user does not enter a line break, the description is saved a single long string and the pic_window.asp page is generated with one long description which makes the page very wide.
I tried to get around this by changing the description style in pic_window.asp to reflect a value like 50% or 200 pixels, and I have tried putting it into a table with a fixed width, but there is no effect.
Thanks!
- Jason , If the physical path isnt right and the permissions are not right it just plain will not work. You will not get an error.
If the filesystem object is disabled on the webserver it will not work either. Something has to be wrong.
Please start a new thread when the topic changes.. thanks
It helps to keep the forums organized for other users in the future. cwilliams38454.6146180556, just FYI -- i added in a new data table into the database. I
havent finished implementing the whole thing across the entire site,
but it wasn't too difficult. Once I have all of the functionality
complete I'll post some details. Some of the changes are the
addition of a new album nav style which combines style 2 and some of
the features of the new data table.
Very easy app to work with guys.
, Whenever you are running software that can block scripts from certain things you are going to have issues like this.
I imagine many complex asp scripts you will download will do things like this as well.
A highly doubt it is anything to worry about regarding people that use your site.
ASP code delivers standard html to the browser... nothing weird goes on as far as that goes.
This system has been sold for 6 years and this is just not something to worry about. Trust me.. though you may want to tone down black ice so it doesn't give you issues as it tries to block various things.
If I were you I would do some google searches on black ice and issues with it blocking asp scripts.. etc etc
Now, if you are running black ice right on the server that a whole other story and something you as a server admin need to decide what to do about. I doubt that is the case as black ice is not probably suitable for a commercial webserver but I just thought I would throw that out there. ,
