this could go on forever...

if you want PM "private message" me info to log into your site.. show me the pages we are dealing with...

and I will take a look at it all...

CJW

,

Please be aware folks..

This file is not provided by CJWSoft. Though this may work very well use of it is not supported in any way. We have not tested it.

This user is not using the option pack so this file will not be compatible with anyone using that because it does not have support for groups and some of the other new features.

Regardless..we appretiate users sharing ideas and solutions that they have come up with.

cwilliams38313.499837963,

you summed it up perfectly... everything you said really

As for the banner software custimizations.. you could just make another folder with a modified admin area (little tweaks here and there so the person logged in only controls their own banners) You'd probably want to add an approval process so nothing they did went live unless you really really trust them. That wouldn't be that hard either.

I always planned to do it someday but I just never have time.

cwilliams38436.2124884259,

If you re-start the web via IIS, reboot the server, or (possibly) just add and remove a category... that will clear up.

ASPClassifieds and ASPListings must be installed in seperate IIS applications if they are the same web. Otherwise the category caching system of each system will interfere with each other. They were never intended to be installed in the same web together since ASPListings is merely a stripped down version of ASPClassifieds and they share a lot of the same code. Like I said though if different IIS applications are set up in the web site you can do it because each IIS application will have it's own set of application and session variables.

, I had some issues with passwords not working. I cleared them up by going to the affected user and typing in the desired password manually on the edit screen. Worked like a champ every time, and I haven't had to do that for some time now. ,

Than you

I'm happy after changing to XML parser for two of the ads. Later I'll change the other codes to XML, never to use iframe again!

,

Look in the "check_user_inc.asp" file..

You'll see the name of the cookie there and also get an idea how to access it.

In most versions it looks like this.

Request.Cookies("PASWORDSYSTEMCOOKIE")("COOKIE_USERNAME")

You'll want the cookie for the username because the session variable will not exist unless they have actually gone to a protected page during that session at the site.

It would probably be best the check for both the session and the cookie. That will make sure people logged in that arent using the cookie option still see the message you want to display.

Sorta like this..

GetUsername = ""
If Request.Cookies("PASWORDSYSTEMCOOKIE")("COOKIE_USERNAME") <> "" Then
GetUsername = Request.Cookies("PASWORDSYSTEMCOOKIE")("COOKIE_USERNAME")
Else If Session("Username") <> "" Then
GetUsername = Session("Username")
End If

Response.Write GetUsername

cwilliams38298.9175,

I appreciate the offer to beta test... but its really more a matter of me getting it ready..

I have a lot done.. but a lot of things are hard coded to only work on my machine and some things have not been sorted out. Giving it to someone else to test would be a waste of time at this point as I they probably couldn’t even run it.

Lately the reason this project has fallen behind has all to do with my main webserver where I collocate.

1st it got compromised (we think by certain competitors who are always up to no good)... then windows 2003 server which I decided to go with on the new server gave me random problems... then the Cisco hardware firewall was acting up and making the sites run slow....then SQL server attacks on port 1433 from Korea when I took the firewall down....and as of the last few days I think the server just needs a new power supply. I swear for the last 2 months I have spent more time administrating my servers than working on code. Yesterday it was locking up every 30 minutes. There have been a lot of days like that and it takes up all my time until I get it situated.  Especially since its over 100 miles to the collocation center. The APC unit I installed that allows me to remotely cut the power to hard reboot is a life saver.

Fun... I tell ya... and expensive.. (hardware, software, lost sales, and time) I am pretty much completely broke at the moment. It has been a very expensive few months.

But I like running my own servers... I run dns servers, email servers, sql servers, web servers.. I do it all. It's keeps me in touch with the latest software/hardware. Regardless , my servers ran well for years and they will again.

anyway.. hopefully I can actually get a new version of the photo gallery out before the month is over. It will probably be the last classic asp version. The version after that will most likely be ASP.net.

cwilliams38295.6248032407,

I have set up a user to be redirected to a different page when logging in for the first time.

I assumed this function would count the number of times a user has logged in. When the login count was greater than 1, the user would be taken to the default.asp

This isn't happening. The user is always redirected.  The user login count in the database is now 9.

What am I missing?

, "I can login for the first time."

when you say that what exactly does that mean, because in this version you do not just log in for the 1st time.

What I am saying is there are steps where you run a special page to intially get into the system, then you setup a new user, then you make them an admin, and then you can log in as them.

You left all of that out of your story...

I really need all details in order to help.. is this an upgrade or a new install, etc etc etc

I would also advise very carefully comparing the fields in your sql database to the sql creation scripts to make sure all the field settings are correct.

Lastly, please tell me what name/email you ordered the product under so I can check your purchase.

Thanks,

DONE IT

DON'T WORRY!

DON'T ASK HOW, BUT NOW IT WORKS!!

THANK YOU IF IT WAS YOU, OR THANK YOU GOD IF IT WAS ME!!!

, Can you please elaborate on this?  I have a flash banner that is on my site.  All of the info is in the code banner section.  In the banner link section, I have nothing.  Do I need to actually edit the swf file with redirect URL?  How do I edit the swf file?  Once that is edited, do I put the URL of the site in the Link URL space?  Thanks. ,

This is a great article for newbies..

Hints & Tips when working with ASP
http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/common_sense.asp

cwilliams38436.5949768519, My guess it they are runnign some sort of ad blocking software like norton ad blocking. Something on the client side blocking ads or anything with the word ad in it.

I would investigate that.,

I uploaded the files designed for an aspprotect folder at the root of my site (mysite.com/aspprotect) and went to mysite.com/password_admin/get_me_in.asp and receive this error:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0xf54 Thread 0x908 DBC 0x90c41dc Jet'.

/aspprotect/scripts/populate_config_variables_inc.asp, line 11

I am assuming my host has still not set rights properly and that is why I receive this error. Am I correct?

 I will definitely recommend hosting company you suggested for our businees site.

, A nice addition for the listing script would be if the script would allow a "featured ad" or ads that would appear on the default page. ,

Sorry, not really.. not without a lot of changes to the code.
the recent activity info recycles.. it is not meant to be day by day

My suggestion there would be to look at both the log files and the user activty screens...

,

I want to try this on the machine im using now; which is windows XP.

Is this possible? I don't think i can set folder permissions on XP... there is no option to do so...

Is there a way to do it?

,

ok, here's a test page:
http://www.galvinelectricity.org/download_link.asp

user: test
password: test

Our company just got new computers, so everyone here has the same set-up, all Dells, all about 3 weeks old, all Windows XP.

But I did realize after reading your post that I am using Firefox and everyone else was using IE. When I used IE, I was able to duplicate the error.

But, alas, I am unable to resolve it. Client will be using IE, no doubt.

,

I apologize if I've missed this, but I would love to see the ability to auto-e-mail the advertiser at some randomly set interval before the banner expires. Ideally, I would also be cc'd on this e-mail so I can stay in touch. If the advertiser wants to renew, I can receive payment and change the expiration date without their banner ever falling out of service.

Since e-mail is already built into the program, would it be difficult to add a routine that checks for expiring banners at some daily interval, and contacts the advertiser?

To get really fancy, the e-mail could include the ability for me to add a button for paypal, allowing the advertiser to easily click and send off another payment.

Best,

Wayne

, If you makes you feel any better the photo gallery app runs awesome off an access database. Mostly because all of the picture work is done in the filesystem, not the database. The load on the database is relatively low even with a lot of users.,

It's real easy actually if ya sniff around the source code.
ASP is so easy to (work with/edit) even if you dont know any code.

edit   "save.asp" with a text editor

change

If Request("First_Name") = "" Then
  ErrorMessage = ErrorMessage & Server.URLEncode("You must enter a First Name.\n\n")
End If

to

If Request("Company_Name") = "" Then
  ErrorMessage = ErrorMessage & Server.URLEncode("You must enter a Company Name.\n\n")
End If

From looking at that save code I dont see where Last_Name was required. The only name I saw required was a 1st name.

Also.. making the First_Name not required may break something somwhere else. I dont think it will but it might. You are warned.

cwilliams38326.5102662037,

I have never heard of such a thing...
If the settings are enabled for the web it should work.
That is, as long as your include file syntax is valid.

I run my own windows 2003 server (you are on it now) so I should know

for troubleshooting

try a very very simple example... like a file in a folder.. with a server side include to a file under it

and see if that works

use real simple asp files with nothing crazy in them... and an include like this

<!--#include file = "../myfile.asp"-->

cwilliams38434.5388773148, You cannot use server mappath in the connecting string of the application. If you want to know why read my article.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/physical-path.asp

Make your connecting string just like in my example.. do not use the oledb connection string either as it will cause other problems.

If you need to find out the path to the mdb file you can use server.mappath to get that info but do not put server mappath in the connecting string. See my article again.

then if the database folder has proper permissions and the path to the mdb file is valid it will work... otherwise you get useless errors,  its really that simple.

You also may want to download ASPTest from www.cjwsoft.com it is designed to show a person how to setup a working data connection.,

no, that only applies to random pictures and stats..

The issues you are talking about usually relate to issues created by switching back and forth between a local install and a live server install and not being careful about changing the paths in the settings depending on where you are running it from.

For example.. it trying to use a url at the server level that is only valid when you are running it locally

cwilliams38394.7554976852,

Hi

I've tried almost anything here... I'm using an online SQL SERVER database with ASPProtect 7, and I can't login after my initial creation of the admin account.

It works fine with Access... I believe I have checked all the fields created by the sql statement (which was run with no errors),

What could be the problem here? could it be a problem that I run my local IIS against the online sql server?

sincerely,

Morten

,

Yes, that’s all I wanted to know. The problem is on my end. The server is not creating the .NET site correctly. I think I got it working now. Thanks.

In case you wanted to know? The only reason I asked you is because you mentioned that you where having trouble with overseas piracy and my account is new. I figured it was my user error by just though I’d ask you first. Hope you have no more piracy issues and have a good rest of the day.

Thanks again for the quick response.

, okay thanks,

You not getting a blank page.. you getting an error. You just can't see it because it appears you edited the page background to black.

error '80040211'

,

(User Search & Contact Mod) for ASPProtect Version 7.x

This will allow an individual user to search for other users as well as email or call them.

Notes: This is a down and dirty mod. The users page from the admin area was used as a starting point. I then edited it up real quick to be used as a user search. The way it is it shows the user email as a regular email link. If you want to set it up so emailing is done from the application and emails are not actually shown you will have to do some extra work. If you don't want phone numbers shown you will have to remove that column which is not very difficult.

Directions:
Back up your existing ASPProtect installation.

copy "search.asp" into your "users" folder

2006-03-10_143253_User_Search_Contact_Mod.zip

Direct your users there. They will have to be logged in to view the page.

WARNING: This has not been extensively tested for SQL Injection attacks.
I think it is perfectly fine the way it is by looking it over quickly, but use it at your own risk.

,

Or at least I think so.  I have been trying to get this software to work so I can see if it meets our needs for an upgrade purchare. Here is my error.

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e10'

No value given for one or more required parameters.

/aspprotect/scripts/populate_config_variables_inc.asp, line 15

My provider says that the problem is NOT on there end, that it is a problem with the code.  I think that it is a database connection problem.  Can you please help.  Below is my connection string based on what the setup page directed me to do:

ConnectionString = "data source=\\NAWINFS03\home\users\web\b1347\rh.957theride\asppro tect\data\database\ASPProtect_access2002.mdb; Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Jet OLEDB:Database Password=temp"

When I first set up the program I got this error:

Provider error '8000ffff'
Catastrophic failure
/aspprotect/scripts/populate_config_variables_inc.asp, line 11

Once again, the looked into it and said the permissions were fine and that the code was most likely bad.  But then the errror changed to the one that I first listed.  Which is the one I am currently getting.

BTW here is the page address

http://www.957theride.com/aspprotect/password_admin/get_me_i n.asp

Thank you!

,

The default database password is "temp"

This is noted in the docs. You can also see the current password by looking at your connection string.

cwilliams38176.7913888889,

Editing using Visual Studio.NET

Here are directions for editing the application using Visual Studio.NET
2002 or 2003 version.. either should work

Some of you are wondering why I didnt just give you the project files.
It is best you go through this process and really understand what is going on.
Also, I dont use VS 2002 so I wouldnt be able to give you project files that would work with that. Not to mention there is 100% chance my prject files wouldn't work for you anyway because of path differences and other things.

Anyway.. on with the instructions...

1st.. make sure IIS, ASP.NET, .NET Framework, and Visual Studio.NET are all installed correctly and up to date.

Open Visual Studio.NET

File -  New Project

Select a New Visual Basic ASP.NET web application.

give the new web to be created a name.. I called mine "aspprotectdotnet"

Hit Ok..

Now. once the project opens up we need to delete a few things in the solution explorer window.

So delete "webform1.aspx" , "deletestyles.css", "Global.asax", "AssemblyInfo.vb", and "web.config"

Basically all the files under the project...

Now... you should have the aspprotect.net files unzipped somewhere on you hard drive...

open that folder and select all the files and folders like so

Now drag those selected files and folders to the solution explorer window of Visual Studio.NET right on to the name of the web. In my case "aspprotectdotnet"

It might say this folder already contains a folder names Bins.. just tell it to copy over and continue on any prompts like that.

You'll notice your project is now populated.

Open up the references tab in the solution explorer window as we need to add some references to the dlls in the bin folder of this project. This is needed so the compile process and function correctly.

Right click on references.. click add reference
Then browse....browse on your hard drive to the location of the new web and the bin folder within it.

In my case... "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectnet\bin"

Choose "aspprotectlicense.dll"

Hit open...

Now do the same thing again until you have added all the dlls in that bin folder to the references..

Now.. click add-references again and this time choose
"system.management" from the choices in the .NET tab

Once all of that is done your references should look like this

Now in the Visual Studio.NET menu system up top..

Choose Build - Build Solution

If you did everything right you will see something like this in the build window

------ Build started: Project: aspprotectdotnet, Configuration: Debug .NET ------

Preparing resources...
Updating references...
Performing main compilation...
Building satellite assemblies...

---------------------- Done ----------------------

Build: 1 succeeded, 0 failed, 0 skipped

You now have the visual studio side of things all set up.

To make the project actually run we now have to set some permissions and edit the web.config file.

Using windows explorer browse to the web the app is in. Right click on the "_database" folder and give that folder and all the child folders within it. Modify permissions for both the Anonymous webserver account and the ASPNET account. These accounts might not show up until you dig into the advanced tab and click find now to show all the accounts on the machine.

Permissions screen looks like this...

Once that is done go back the solution explorer window in visual studio.

Open the docs folder.. right click on "sysdiag.aspx" and choose view in browser.

It should complie the project again.. and then run that page in either the internal or external browser depending on how you have that set up.

That page will report back path information.
 "BTW.. for security reasons this page should be removed from any production server after installation is complete.. this is very important"
In my case it looks like this.

Probabale AppRootPhysicalPath
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet

Probabale AppRootUrlPath
http://localhost/aspprotectdotnet

Probabale Path to Access Database
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet\_database\aspprotectnet2 002.mdb

Now we need to edit the web.config file... your going to need to know some of the path information above.

In solution explorer double click on web.config.

Now edit the AppRootPhysicalPath, AppRootUrlPath, and CN keys accordingly.

In my case they will look like this.

<!-- PATHS USED BY THE SYSTEM -->
<add key="AppRootPhysicalPath" value="c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet" />
<add key="AppRootUrlPath" value="http://localhost/aspprotectdotnet" />

<!-- MICROSOFT ACCESS KEY -->
<add key="Cn" value="Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq= c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet\_database\aspprotectnet2 002.mdb;Uid=admin;Pwd=" />

Now.. because our web is really not in the root of our virtual directory which starts at "inetpub/wwwroot" we need to edit another tag in this file.

Find the forms tag near the bottom.

<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" />

Change it to say this

<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectdotnet/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" />

Notice tha part in bold that we added.

Now, you may also want to check the temp license key info while you are in that file and make sure it is not expired but I am not going to get into that here.

Now save and close that file and do a compile again.

In solution explorer open up the "aspprotectadmin" folder.
Right click on default.aspx and click browse

You should see the login prompt in your web browser..

Log in with

admin
temp

all lower case

You should see the users screen of the application,

Click on the system info tab up in the top left... make sure all those paths are correct and save it.

Go to the settings page of the admin area. Make sure all those paths/settings are correct and save it.

Congratulations... you just set up a visual studio web project from scratch and our now ready to edit and compile an advanced web application.

From here on your on your own, but feel free to ask questions in the forums as you will probably get help from myself or others who own the software.

One last thing... because we are not in the true root of the web on the development machine the examples in the example folder will need the reference to the "protectpage.ascx" file modified before they will work

It will need to go from

Src="/protectpage.ascx"

to

Src="/aspprotectdotnet/protectpage.ascx"

If this app was installed in the true root of a domain on a real webserver.. you would not have to edit the forms tag in the web config file or change the paths in the examples as they would be correct the way they came

,

is that lindsey lohan and her fake boobs as ur avatar?

I am installing IIS and all of its glory on the other computer now... gotta love remote desktop (the pc is at work  )

, Ok.. glad you got it working., when did you puchase/download the application? you may have old code.,

Thanks!  Will try both.

Appreciate the support.

,

Thanks for that.

I have tried InStr("*2*",>"0") in the query design window but it does not return any members.

I have orded a Access Bible to help me in furture

Hello,

As I have my site hosted by a web hosting company (1and1.com), I want to make sure the ASP Photo Gallery software runs correctly before I buy. I am not sure about whether or not they support parent paths because I can find nothing in the online faqs. But, I have two other ASP apps (Forum and News from Web Wiz) running on the site, both connecting to Access databases. I remember having problems initially setting these up because I kept trying to use paths like ../db/wwforum.mdb like I would normally do when referencing images or pages in other folders.

Anyway, here are the database connection strings for the two apps. The first is for the Forum, which is at /forum/common.asp connecting to a database in /db/wwForum.mdb. The second is for the News, at /news/common.asp accessing /db/news.mdb.

'Virtual path to database
 strDbPathAndName = Server.MapPath("/db/wwForum.mdb")

'Database connection info and driver
strCon = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=" & Server.MapPath("/db/news.mdb")

Thanks for your help, hopefully I'll be setting up my new galleries this weekend!
