OK, I updated the server with the SP 8 Jet updates and this had no effect.
Then I loaded the asptest file and put in the correct path. The results were:
Failed: Database could not be connected to....
Error reported from server: Error source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers Error number: -2147467259 Error description: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x784 Thread 0x854 DBC 0x2101014 Jet'.
, Hi,
I basically explained how I thought that might work here where I went over everything I could think of and suggested you download the free version and see if you could get it working http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo488-1.htm
The part about using the alternate scenario involving querystring info from a url.
I have never done anything like that and that is why I told you what I knew and suggested you try it with the free version... ,
Dear Christofer
I already have send you the details you asked me for. Please let me know if you have received , CDOSYS is the way to go usually... My article may shed some light on the different ways to send email using CDOSYS http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/sending_email_cdosys.asp
As for eliminating the registration its pretty much like what you said.. manually remove the links and what not... etc etc and dont send users to the registration pages..
If you dont want people to be able to edit their info ever... or retrieve lost passwords.. you can delete the users folder completely..
though it's probably better to leave some of that stuff and just disable the registration links and page...
The paypal and 2checkout folders can be wiped out completley either way as you won't be using them at all. , I dont what it is..u got to just keep trying stuff like connecting to different versions of the database and maybe even the version with no password set on it.. maybe do some iisresets in between if it is your server.. maybe try putting the database in a different folder
Usually people have zero trouble setting up this particular app because everything is so time tested and rock solid...
its just got to be something related to the actual data connection.. low level stuff , Yeah, its working great witht he Access database. Now I just need to get it all set up. I like how the config file is set up with all the comments, it really helped allieviate the 40k thumbnails, .
One quick question though, and I haven't looked through all the code yet... Is there a quick way to have pic_window.asp open full screen by default? I just want to minimize having to either scroll through, or maximize, the screen
Thanks!!!
- Jason , I have one file called asplistings.sql but I have license for ASPListings_auto and ASPListings_real_estate. I really want to use the SQL server for both. Please advise how?
Thank you. Lance , I think you getting all confused about dsn's and what they really are.
A system dsn gets created via the ODBC control panel and gets listed there. A system dsn is nothing more than a registry entry telling information about where the database is an how to connect to it. Then every time code accesses the database it has to do a registry lookup. The whole process adds a lot of delays, causes very poor performance and is unnecessary.
A dsn-less connection simply connects directly to the database by specifying the driver being used, where the database is, and some other information like the password if there is one.
To get aspprotect or any other ASP application using a database all you have to do is make sure the database folder has correct permissions and then make a connection string like so. (with the correct info for your directory structure of course)
DBQ=c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotect_6\data\database\ASPProtect _access2002.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp
If you are wondering Access databases always use the same username.
So, basically if permissions are set correctly and the directory is valid it will work. It is really that simple. 99% of the time when people have problems it is one or the other.
That being said, don't worry about the odbc control panel and what is listed there for connections. All we really care about is that odbc drivers are installed and somewhat current.
One last thign for reference: even if you do make a system dsn the database folder still needs the correct permissions. cwilliams38417.7371643518, the reason being is because when I do installs I do not touch any of your existing content. I only install the base application and make sure everything in it working correctly and also that the example protected pages are working. I do not integrate it with your existing site or edit any of your existing web content. That is up to you
sorry about that, but it would be way too time consuming and editing people's existing pages is a good way to cause a lot of headaches for me and the customer if something goes wrong. Not only that but everyone uses the system differently and it wouldnt make sense for me to be the one doing that based on access levels, groups.. etc etc which will all be custom to how you want things set up.
more on installation policies here. http://www.cjwsoft.com/installation_service.asp
, Yes, thats cool.. post it here for sure.
Also, the way you allowed for your search engine is clever and probably was the easiest way to go.
You could do the same thing with the IP. Much easieri than the way I was thinking of doing it.
, do you have "use picture uploading" checked in the settings ? that is important..
have proper permissions been set on the picture folder ?
are the paths set correctly for the picture folder ?, It looks like your product is perfect for my new site, but I have one question. One of the pages I want to protect on my site will be called by an application running on a remote server every 15 seconds. The application can include the username and password in the URL it is calling. Will your product allow access to the protected page on my server? , (Password Expiration Mod) for ASPProtect Version 7.x
This Advanced Mod requires decent knowledge of Databases and working with ASP. I originally wrote something like this for a customer on a custom project. I then took the time to re-write all the code from scratch so it could easily be plugged in to the current version of ASPProtect as an option. All in all this mod took me over 15 hours of time to develop and will save you a ton of time & money if you were planning on writing something like this on your own. Some parts of this were so difficult to get working that I would never have written this code if I was not paid to do so. (The encrypted array that rotates through the last 12 passwords was quite frustrating to get working)
The price on this is 19.95. I am not incorporating this into the base product because it makes things more complicated and isn't for everyone.
Purchase Page
Security is a big concern and making your users change their password every so often is a good idea. Keeping track of previous passwords they used and making them choose something they haven't used before takes the concept even further.
This Mod will add a password expiration date to the application. When the password expiration date is hit the user must confirm their old password as well as pick a new one before they can log in again.
There is a new password expiration directory where they must choose a new password that has not been used before. The new password must be confirmed during this process. (It remembers 12 old passwords the way it is coded) The old passwords are stored in the database in an encrypted array.
Directions: Back up your existing ASPProtect installation.
Add two new fields to the "ASPP_Users" table in your database.
For an MSAccess Database
Password_Expiration_Date (Date_Time Field) PreviousPasswords (Memo Field)
For a MSSQL Database
Password_Expiration_Date (smalldatetime) PreviousPasswords (nvarchar 160 characters)
once that is done
Copy all the new ".asp" pages into your site.
Edit the "PasswordExpirationURL" variable in the "check_user_inc.asp" file
It needs to be the full URL to to the "change_password/default.asp" file
Now edit the "change_password/processchange.asp" file
There are 3 variables you can edit.
PageSentToAfter = "http://localhost/aspprotectmods/password_admin/default.asp" PassMinLength = 4 PassMaxLength = 8
The "PageSentToAfter" is where you want them sent to after they change the password. It can be whatever you like. If it is a protected page they should automatically get logged in with the new password they just changed to which is nice.
The other two values should be obvious.
That's it...
Just remember the password change thing is not used in the admin area... You could easily add code for that on your own though by looking at the the password expiration code I added to the publics "check_user_inc.asp" file
Also: You will see a new field to edit on the user edit screen for the Password Expiration of course. , I'm using ASPimage and have the maximum width set to 320 in the settings. Also using SAFileUP ver. 4.0.
Files upload okay, and the script displays a confirmation that the image was resized to 320, but the actual image uploaded is displaying full size rather than reduced to 320.
Also, the thumbnails are not displayed in the Picture Manager. Would indicated ASPImage is not working or the script is not communicating with it.
Suggestions? lancem38326.9070486111, I purchased two site licenses for ASP Protect a while back and am now trying to implement the application.
The connection to the database is fine, because it recognizes the user and displays the user name. However, there must be a problem with the permission because I get the DNS error information from the On Error in the check_user_inc.asp file.
I set the permissions on my PC as you indicated, both on the folder and the database file. But get the error and cannot access the database to view or modify. I also uploaded the file to my web server and set the permissions as well, but get the same problem.
You mention on your forum that it is not the code, but I don't understand if the code is correct and if it finds the database and the permissions have been set as you indicate, why doesn't the code work? , Has anyone used the aspmail function to send and recieve emails from within your forms? If so what string did you use in the aspmail_host field in the connections database.
thank you adam , Oh big deal !!... John mentioned some site and you feel like you proved some sort of point. Aren't you special ?
Look, I am telling for the 3rd time you can't do what you are talking about with ASPProtect.NET. Are you braindead cause I really am beginning to think you are and I for one am done trying to be somewhat nice to you ??????
I am also willing to bet you had no idea what viewstate even was until I mentioned it and then you probably went and read up about it so quit trying to pretend like you know what is going on! If you knew what was going on you would not be asking more questions about ASPProtect.NET than any customer in the history of selling the application.
As a matter of fact you should send me like 400.00 just for all my time you have taken up because you are totally frigin clueless !!!!!
I should have cut you off the instant you offered me illegal software from p2p right in a forum post., I'm getting errors when clicking the Update Config Button in the System Info page and when clicking the log files button.
I'm not sure if it's a permission thing or not. ASPNET and IUSR both have modify access to the _database folder and childs, yet I'm still getting the error:
Access to the path "D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectnet\_database\xsd\aspprotectne t_config.xml" is denied.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\_database\xsd\aspprotectnet_config.xml" is denied.
ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.
To grant ASP.NET write access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.
Any ideas?
Thanks
, Can we get access to the source project files for ASPProtect.net since we'd like to put in some of our own branding on the pages and not everything can be done in HTML.
Thanks , See, and that's what I thought. What's interesting is that if I call either an aspx page or an asp page in the iframe tag, it asks me if I want to open the page, it doesn't display it. I'm using IE6 so there's not problem with the support for the tag.
I'll keep looking to find out what's going on. I think the iframe method might work best.
JDooley , The "forgot your password" feature is not sending passwords to users when they put in their emails.
Any suggestions?
Thanks , to finalize this thread.... turns out I was correct and this person was not unzipping the zip file correctly. , Just an update,,,
the permission were all correct.... i left it and tried from my pc at work and it works fine... so i dont know what hahhpened.... thansk for your quick response
regards
Domenic
Sydney, Australia , Hello Chris:
Yes I'm using the Option Pack.
-Ricardo , It's not working because i guess im copying the viewstate also...and it comes up
Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster. , Okay, this also shows at the bottom of the import/export page
I've got the IUSR account with modify permissions on this data folder as well. Is the "this directory needs change permission" line just a general reminder?
Files are being stored in "D:\missourirealtor.org\members\aspprotect\data\export\\"
This directory needs change permissions for the anonymouse webserver account. Those permissions can only be set by your hosting company. These features will not work without those permissions being set.
, I have connected to countless DB's using my own applications written in dreamweaver and have tested them on my own server and also my web facing one. BUT this seems to be different. no matter what I try I still get this error.
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x440 Thread 0x6b0 DBC 0x1f995bc Jet'.
On both a windows 2000 server and also a windows 2003 server. Also using both DSN and DSN less connection and oledb.
Any help would be greatly apprectiated.
Thanks , this error really does not mean anything specific
Your browser must support a standard called RFC 1867. Please check with your browser vendor for support of this standard"
If you get an error its real weird that the file is being uploaded. Generally if you get an error during upload it is because of one of these 3 things
Invalid physical path specified
Unsupported upload method chosen
Permissions
See my article on XP and permissions http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_xp_pro_and_permi ssions.asp
many people dont do their permissions right on XP Pro and that article covers everything , if it is your own XP machine there is no reason you should edit that config file manually.
simply set permissions on the data folder and all the folders in it and the application will write to the config files on its own... if you are having problems chances are you are not setting permissions correctly.. please read all of this http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo56-1.htm
if is not an XP machine (your post was confusing and I am not sure) then this is an article for 2003 server http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo136-1.htm
Most importantly whats the real error ? error 500 does not help figure out anything http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo11-1.htm
lastly make sure you go into iis and make that web its own application , Is there anyway to limit the number of Albums each user can make? , Yes, as long as each installation is in in it's own web site. (or at least in it's own application in IIS) Meaning you could have 5 directories in your site each with the app installed as long as each directory got set as an application in IIS.
Remember, a license must purchased for each running install except for development reasons on local machines. cwilliams38400.5162384259, I am sure its permissions as well, but I don't have that much access to the hosted server...lol.
I will use access for now, since it works fine, and try to talk with the hosting people later.
Thanks! , IFRAME is just an client side html thing...
has nothing to do with .NET
will work with any page extension or server side technology
As you see from that compatibilty chart I posted a link to. Nearly every modern browser supports it.
cwilliams38155.4462847222, I wasnt talking about the date for a banner ad.. I was talking about the date field in the database for a USER if there is one (I dont remember if that app had date fields for user or not and I am not at a computer to take a look)
If you do not know how to directly open up and edit the database then yes you should just make a new user, Password Retrieval System
I'm trying to setup the email functionality and have the following settings:
Email_Component : CDOSYS (Using Remote Server)
Mail Remote Server: the smtp server in my Outlook account
Use SMTP Authentication: Checked
SMTPUsername: the email address in my Outlook account
SMTPPassword: the password in my Outlook account
Email Notification: sales@tradersreports.com
But I get this when I send the request for via missing password info.
CDO.Message.1 error '80040213'
The transport failed to connect to the server.
/aspprotect/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp, line 174
This is running on Windows 2000 server.
Any ideas?
Warren , yes, dont worry about that. It is not checkking permissions just explaining things.
and dont worry about the extra slash it seems to be adding at the end of the path. That is normal. I guess I need to fix that so it does not add that extra slash., When a user 1st signs up a proper case function is run on certain fields. This is only once on user signup and never done in the admin area.
It's goal is to keep things entered in Proper Case,
so if someone enters "chris williams" it becomes "Chris Williams"
It's not perfect but it helps a lot to keep the data clean and more consistent. Since it only happens during registration those values can be changed later by the admin or the user if someone wants to.
The function is only applied to the fields that it makes sense to apply it to.... In your case adding a drop down menu means you want exactly what is in your drop down to appear so you wouldn't want it happening.
That being said, it is really easy to remove this situation from any field it is happening to during registration.
So edit "users/add_new_account.asp" with a text editor
find
CmdAddUser.Fields("Company_Name") = PCase(Company_Name)
and change it to
CmdAddUser.Fields("Company_Name") = Company_Name
That is all that is needed to made the change cwilliams38421.5069328704, Hallo,
Can I change the number of the access levels?
I want to have about 20 levels...
, There are several pages on my website that a user may go to that are not protected (e.g. home page). If the user has indicated that they want to be saved on this computer (until they explicitly log off), and their 1st entry point is to an unprotected page, how do I determine whether they have logged in before, and extract the info from the cookie / session variables without forcing them to log in or making the entry page protected?
, Making progress. I have made the appropriate settings and now I have the option to upload. When I upload, I get the following message:
"Your upload did not succeed, most likely because your browser does not support Upload via this mechanism.
Your browser must support a standard called RFC 1867. Please check with your browser vendor for support of this standard"
I am using IE6 XP SP2. I also am using DUNDAS UPLOAD, ASPIMAGE.
I think I set permissions correctly bot not positive. I have given all auth to everyone for the database etc. ,
