does emailing work at the simplest level.. ??
meaning does a user get an email when you send an email from the admin users screen ?
if emails are not sending it could very well be the setting you have chosen for emails in the settings.
the best thing to do is keep trying to send an email there and try different emails settings until you get something that works... even when I do installs for people I often have to try a lot of various things before I get emails to send.. like picking different components and trying different things for the email server address because what they tell me is often wrong
also, sometimes emails get sent but depending on where they go they may get deleted as spam.. aol, hotmail, msn, and yahoo are famous for that , enjoy the bar.. drink one for me.. cause that was the problem..
,
If logfiles do not get created it is most likely one of 3 things
- invalid physical path specified
- permisssions
- filesystem object is disabled on the server
that path doesn't look correct to me for a live professionally set up server but only you or your server admins can know that for sure
you will not get any errors when things arent perfect.. just no physical logs
RecentActiveUsers and RecentPageRequrests are not related to the stored logfile feature.. Recent Activity is a different thing , you would have to edit the application in visual studio.net.. change some things around and recompile the application... in the process figuring out how you want to handle all of that (probably combining the username and email fields just on the registration form then saving both values to the database)
very doable.. just not anything documented or supported as it is custimization
I do have a very nice article on the forums on how to set up a project in visual studio.net with the application.. it is in the forums, whether you use SSL or not really does not effect aspprotect in any way
I say, the smart thing to do there is too not start them off at a http:// url
one way to do it is put a simple ASP redirect on that default page and send them to an SSL version of the page instead...
http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/redirects.asp
another way would be not start them off on a protected page right off the bat and offer links to the the protected area...
in my opinion thats pretty odd to be starting them off on a protected page anyway SLL maybe, but protected right from the time they hit the default page of the site.. thats just odd.. usually you want o say a little something about the site your at and then link people to protected areas or give them a login form which posts to a protected area.
Regardless if you always want users at your site under https:// you should have code on every single page in your site checking the url info at every page load. Then if someone ever hits a page and is not using the https:// you can do something about it like redirect them to the SSL home poge or redirect to that same page but with the https:// in the url.. , Ya, you must have tried to upgrade from a really really old version like you said which wouldnt really work out because those instructions are specifically for upgrading a version 6 database to version 7.
That line error you had was looking for the User_ID field and I bet the version you had was so old that you didnt have a field named that as a few years ago the field "ID" got renamed to "User_ID"
As for all the cool stuff... yup there is a lot of cool stuff in this version... glad ya like it so far cwilliams38418.8164930556, ok, well that should not be a problem then.. its meant to be able to be put in a folder like that.. just make sure the folder is not a subweb or anything like that... meaning dont set the folder up to have its own application in IIS. Just use a regular folder of course that is part of the root iis application.
Perhaps you just didnt edit the paths in the settings like I mentioned., Yes worked fine
thanks , ASPProtect version 6 does not officially support any sort of redirection or is it a feature.
You can however do redirection after login with some basic ASP if-else statements and ASP redirects. Basically you check the session variables after successful login and send users where based on that info. You of course also need to protect any pages you send users to and make sure any people that aren't supposed to go there do not go there directly and bypass your security.
I highly frown on Redirecting during login (In my opinion it is poor site design and it defeats the purpose of dynamic web pages, there is seldom a good reason to even need to do it if you design your site well) but you can check out this thread which should give you lots of good information.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=17&KW= redirect, Can you be more specific on the javascript I should look for? Can it be combined with ASPBanner?, After I approve someone's username and password, then go to send them the default e mail telling them of the approval, the e mail never goes through. The e mailing used to work well for many months, but it stopped working. Any thoughts?
Spider , If you makes you feel any better the photo gallery app runs awesome off an access database. Mostly because all of the picture work is done in the filesystem, not the database. The load on the database is relatively low even with a lot of users., Christopher
Found this but I dont really know what to do with it or even if its the right thing.

, Well I have the web hosting tech looking into the memory issues at this point. Unfortunately I don't have another machine to be able to run the asp on that would run it correctly so that I can just publish it over. , Hello dear Chris
I can login for the first time. I exit from the browser and then I cannot login again. This happens for every user.
I noticed that the values in the fields "Login_limit" and "Active" in
the ASPP_Users table in the SQL changed to NULL and 0 when login and
remained in those values after close the browser.
If manually I change the values it is ok but the problem repeated.
Thank you in advance.
, After taking another look at this and trying your suggestions without success, it appears that in Windows 2003 server it is nearly impossible to remove the READ ONLY attribute from the _database folder. I'm wonder if this could the cause?
Thanks , Glad it is working.. for anyone reading this the customer bascially did this http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=36& PN=1
That being said asp photo gallery actually has a few more places that send email that you going to need to modify as well. Off hand the reply to album, admin massemail, admin send email, and postcard features come to mind possibly as 3 of them.
using a multiple file search and replace utility like ReplaceEm would be the easy way to do all of this in one step and find all the instances

cwilliams38420.4424537037, I am having difficulties importing new Users.
I have exported the existing list and then copied in the additional users and save the file as text (tab delimited) in Exel.
When I go to import the file (browse then upload) I get the following error:
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a03f9'
Expected 'Then'
/aspprotect/password_admin/upload_post.asp, line 6
If Session("Admin") <> "True"
If I upload the text file by FTP and then try to import it it only tends to import the first two existing rows.
All collumns match but not sure if I need to add "User_ID". I have added it and created consequecutive numbers.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks
, sorry.. you just said above you were using XP SP2 so that is the article I referred you to as I just assumed you were talking about your local web server
here is my article on permissions regarding server 2003 http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_2003_server_and_ permissions.asp
I can look at your installation monday if you like. In about an hour I leave for a wedding thingie and I wont be around again untill monday around noon
Try the uploading using VBSCRIPT method just for the heck of it. Perhaps there is an issue with the installation of the dundas component.

, The way the application works is one separate installation and database is required for each (IIS Application).... not only is it a licensing thing but it is also the nature of (forms based authentication) because every application in IIS has it's own set of application and session variables and they can not be shared with other various IIS applications.
That being said if you plan to run a separate install for each web/IIS application buying new licenses is fine
If you want to run one installation and database and share that with other web.IIS applications it is not technically possible.
Each web/IIS application requires a seperate install of ASPProtect.NET, I have sent an registration email (as test) to both a yahoo account and also my own email server and in both cases I get the same issue, all else is working great. I am sure its somthing simple, perhaps I am over looking somthing else. the site url is www.rochestertek.us/asp/users/register.asp if this helps
Again thanks. , glad it is working now
sorry ya had trouble. cwilliams38418.6886342593, The version of aspbanner you have should not matter.
What you are doing here is wrong.
<PARAM NAME=movie VALUE=" http://www.innovationtools.com/aspbanner/aspbanner/banner_re direct.asp?Banner_ID=25">
PARAM NAME=movie is supposed to link to your ".swf" file. And thats why all you see is black.
I don't think you quite understood all of that information fully.
Your ".swf" files needs to be coded in FLASH to link to the aspbanner redirect url. You don't change that flash calling code like that.
The ".swf" file links to the aspbanner redirect url which tracks the click and then redirects the user to the Link URL
You basically need to code your ".swf" flash file to go to that aspbanner URL or code your flash file so it can take a parameter for the url it clicks to (like the macromedia article talks about. This has to be done when editing the flash file in the flash editor before the file is saved.
If you dont have access to the original ".swf" to edit it and re-save it.. your out of luck as far as tracking clicks goes , This has not been officially released yet, but it is ready. Here is the overview... http://www.aspprotect.com/demo3/paypal_signup2/overview.asp
And the Code for the IPN Subscription Pack is 30.00. http://www.aspprotect.com/ipn_subscription_support_pack.asp
A few people are using it and say it works very well.
Like the IPN Single Purchase System it is a separate directory you copy into the web site. One change must be made to your database so it’s pretty easy to get working.
Though I am not guaranteeing this you should be able to accept Single IPN payments and IPN Subscriptions at the same time without the two bothering each other. I haven’t tested it but one customer is doing it and said it is working fine. It just involves manually specifying the IPN URL for one of the systems so it overrides the default IPN URL on your paypal settings. (As each system needs its own IPN URL) Its easy to do… just a form field you would add to the subscription form. I already looked it up. See below.
Specifying Your Notification URL
If you only need to receive your IPNs at a single URL, you can enter that URL in the Preferences section of your Profile. If you would like to receive payment notifications for different payments at different URLs (i.e. if you need to separate payments made to different websites you run), you can manually pass the IPN URL with each payment by including it in that payment’s HTML code. Use the notify_url field to pass this information. The notify_url for a specific payment will be saved, and any subsequent updates to that payment (e.g. cleared eCheck) will be sent to that notify_url. When you pass a notify_url in your HTML code, it will override any preferences you set in your Profile.
Anyway.. the Code for the IPN Subscription Pack is 30.00. http://www.aspprotect.com/ipn_subscription_support_pack.asp

cwilliams38102.4447222222, ok, I just upgraded from 6.0 to 7.0 primarily because we were limited in the choices of email systems we could use to send an email validation message.
Previously, with 6.0, we were using CDONTS to send an email validation message to new registrants. Unfortunately, AOL email addressee's were not receiving the vaildation email from us. I received a reply to another post I made on this forum that the problem was due to the fact that aCDONTS generated email has no MX record and AOL blocks non-MX record containing emails.
Well, I upgraded to 7.0, switched to CDOSYS (Using SMTP Virtual Server) with SMTP Authentication and it appears that AOL is still blocking the validation email.
Any suggestions, comments?
, ok, glad it is working, on that particular page check the session variables manually (not using the include)
that way you are keeping the login access checking to an absolute minimum, elminating any form processing from the login procedure, and keeping the upload script happy
like so
<% If Not InStr(Session("Groups"),"*1*") Then ' do whatever End If %>
you could response.write something followed by a response.end
or you might even want to response.redirect them to some other page that using the "check_user_inc.asp" where they can log in
And if you are going to be using a free asp upload script use this one as it is probably the best pure code upload solution available as far as performance goes.
http://www.freeaspupload.net , Larry,
I have a new computer up and running and am back on the Internet full time. I am here to help when you are ready to continue with this.
I went to your site to look around and "try it" like you mentioned but I can not really try anything as the admin username/password seems to be something other than the default , Hi,
I don't see any good reason to rename any of those files.
Changing them though may involve changes to the code recompiling, etc etc... it is not something I support. , I already gave execute permissions to the stored procedures and that
cleared up the first error, but the second one I still can't figure out., I like to change my database from access to SQL. I run the aspbanner.sql in the database and then I checked the new database tables with the screenshots from your support info. Then I make a ODBC Connection and it looks very good, I logged in and create a zone, but I was not able to store it. I got the following message:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers- Fehler '80040e07' [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Bei der Konvertierung eines char-Datentyps in einen datetime-Datentyp liegt der datetime-Wert ausserhalb des gütigen Bereichs. /adserve/aspbanner/appinfo_inc.asp, line121
Please can anyone help me, that aspbanner also run on my SQL Server ?
Best regards Josef Raschko , Just installed sofware everything works fine except I see no way to upload any photos. There is no reference or link to allow an upload on any of the asp pages (I have surfed them all). I am sure it is something simple, but I am not aware. I am using SQL2000., OK, I updated the server with the SP 8 Jet updates and this had no effect.
Then I loaded the asptest file and put in the correct path. The results were:
Failed: Database could not be connected to....
Error reported from server: Error source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers Error number: -2147467259 Error description: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x784 Thread 0x854 DBC 0x2101014 Jet'.
, I purchased two site licenses for ASP Protect a while back and am now trying to implement the application.
The connection to the database is fine, because it recognizes the user and displays the user name. However, there must be a problem with the permission because I get the DNS error information from the On Error in the check_user_inc.asp file.
I set the permissions on my PC as you indicated, both on the folder and the database file. But get the error and cannot access the database to view or modify. I also uploaded the file to my web server and set the permissions as well, but get the same problem.
You mention on your forum that it is not the code, but I don't understand if the code is correct and if it finds the database and the permissions have been set as you indicate, why doesn't the code work? , If you would like me to, I also have no problem going into your machine real quick via remote access and setting permissions / putting the right connecting string in there for you.
I need to go in as an administator though to set the permissions.
, Those access levels are not used and are nothing to worry about. They are left over from the ASPProtect core which I used for the users area of ASPBanner.
I am not sure what you did but its not a none, Unless I know more I can not make any guesses what happened. I would make sure in the database that the user is active and the expiration date field for them if there is one is empty, I wasnt talking about the date for a banner ad.. I was talking about the date field in the database for a USER if there is one (I dont remember if that app had date fields for user or not and I am not at a computer to take a look)
If you do not know how to directly open up and edit the database then yes you should just make a new user,
