All can say right now is take a break and get away from it for a bit. All your going to do is stress yourself out more if you keep working on it.
There is probably a way to make it work but it may require days of fiddling around and reading articles and trying things and even then you may not get it working AND THEN ITS JUST A BAD IDEA ANYWAY. Like John says you are better off running it on a server that is not a domain controller. , all I can say is try other things... like

or

etc etc etc
replacing yoursite with the name of your domain of course
the settings for sending email via ASP are no different then the settings you would use in outlook or something... except sometimes on the server level localhost works as the email server because they set it up to allow that
and of course those 3rd party emailing components need to actually be installed on the server ,
You would set the groups during users signup the same way you would do the expiration in the following example.

The groups field need to be set the exact same way it would look like in the database of course
So, if a user was part of groups 1, and 2
You would look in the database and see this in the groups fields for that user
*1*,*2*
so in the signup code you set that like so
CmdAddUser.Fields("Groups") = "*1*,*2*"
This info only applies to resgitrations and signups using the "users" folder.
if you wanted to make different sceanrios you would need to carefully make a copy of the users folder and adjust it accordingly , yes, admins have access to absolutely anything...
as for the other question what you should do is only show links to people logged in that they have access to.. then they wont get logged out when they go to a page they do not have access to
for example if someone doesn't have access to a level 4 page dont give them a link to go there... you can do that by checking the session variables and creating your hyperlink html code accordingly .. using simple if-else logic... you could even make a hyperlink non-clickable and add some text to it like (no access)
it's all about taking the time to intelligently designing the different areas of your web site. It takes a bit of time and work to really make a system flow the way you want it to.
other than that it becomes extremely complicated to not grant them access when they go to a page they dont have access to but also keep them logged in. It is just not designed to flow that way. If someone goes to a page they do have access to they get logged out. It sort of has to be that way because of the ways things flow.

another good thing to check out is the provided examples for mutliple access levels. You can see that if you log into the default page for that that it only shows you links to pages you have access to. Done with simple if-else logic around the html links. It is using groups but you can do the same sort of concept using groups. , Hi Chris:

Warren , It's just a generic error that means one of 1000 different things is wrong.. there is a lot of information on in in these forums as well as links to articles about it.

usually it means permissions to the database folder are incorrect or the physical path you are specifying for your dsn-less connection is invalid..

, The problem with that is when a user deletes an album, the album record does not get deleted from the DB, so counting all the records would return the accurate result. :(

Just bought ASPProtect 7.0 last week and just got around to installing it. I've gotten through the installation and am now trying to test the (Forgot Password) functionality.
I get the following error when I type in the e-mail (or in some cases the username) and Post the form.
Error was [11004] Valid name, no data record of requested type
I know that the add user functionality is pointing to the correct database (I see the additional rows via SQL Enterprise Manager) and that the e-mail address I am looking for is in the SQL database.
Any ideas? Any other information you need?

There must be something wrong with the last build of the code. I dont think that upload export file thing is a feature too many people use or I would have heard of this sooner.
For now just upload you export files to the export folder manually using ftp or frontpage explorer and you can accomplish the same thing. , 5 Computers in an office, random hardware and operating systems. Some wireless some wired - all the same ISP connection.
Some users do not see the PLACE A NEW AD hyperlink. How can this be hidden? There is no conditional statement yet some see it and others don't.
To make this problem even more confusing if I take an image and put the place_new_ad.asp hyperlink on that image the users don't even see that image any longer.
How can this be resolved? , How do I recover or reset admin password used for the aspprotected pages. I have installed it months and months ago, but now can not recall the password. Any help appreciated, as I do not feel like installing it again. , Are you reffering to the number of the left of the users name in admin.
I thought it was a counter at first but that number only displays the number of albums they have set up. , I do not what is going on at this time. It is not a known issue.
If is is not working it would seem to be a problem with the application variables on the server possibly and your web.
Perhaps try installing it on a local machine and see if it works for testing sake.
Also.. if your stuck with the black skin you could always just edit the information in the that skins folder to get the app looking the way you want.
That and the header and footer files that comes with the app are what control the look of the system.

As for the banner software custimizations.. you could just make another folder with a modified admin area (little tweaks here and there so the person logged in only controls their own banners) You'd probably want to add an approval process so nothing they did went live unless you really really trust them. That wouldn't be that hard either.
I always planned to do it someday but I just never have time.

I got it now. (In Step 4, by the way, you need to click on the web site, not the directory. The directory has its own Properties menu, which is competely different than the Properties menu for the web site.)

, If you bought ASPBanner Unlimited Version 7.3 Before August/10/2004 this file needs to be updated.
It fixes a bug where the JavaScript method is not properlly closing an html Image tag. It can cause other hyperlinks on your web page to link to the same place the banner links to. This does not always happen but this fix is the way the code should be so it is best to update it.
Copy this file into your ASPBanner folder over the existing file of the same name.

I need to get information from a credit card authorization called netbilling. I have been looking at your code for PayPal and 2 checkout. I have a feel for the code flow and the relationships of the "includes" .
I have been doing a lot of reading in my books and am seemingly twisted around the axel. I am not expert in ASP I am better in VB. I am not afraid to write code I am just a little nervous about messing up existing relationships.
My plan is simple: code a page to open the database and populate the database fields from netbilling and convert their field name to yours in the database.

I logged in myself to my website, and I tried to log in to another with same username and password. But I was able to log in again.
It was supposed to block me from logging in, but it let me to log in.
there has got to be some configurations I must have missed.

and did they give you access to a control panel that lets you manage your site ? sometimes that is where you manage those permissions if their interface supports it
lastly, are frontpage extensions installed in your web so it can be connected to via frontpage ?
, OK, well, that error is pretty self explanatory really. There isn't anything else it could mean.
What you showed me in that screen shot all looked correct, but still permissions to that file just can't be correct. The paths are correct. The path to the file looks correct. The ASPNET (ASP.NET) account looks correct.
I would try settings permissions directly on that XML file. Perhaps child permissions did not go through the way you intended. (the advanced tab must be used for that) If that doesn't work try giving ASPNET and Everyone full permissions on the file directly.
Possibly check the paths in the web.config file just for the heck of it.
Last case scenario, you can edit that XML file directly instead of using the screens in the application. Of course if that file does not have correct permission chances are other things like log files will give you issues as well.
That is all I can think of right now. , recently i've been getting a lot of unspecified errors. i've been running aspbanner for about a year and a half now. i don't know what would have caused all these problems. also, for some reason it won't maintain my log-in, ever time i got from page to page or try to submit a form it asks me log-in again.

There are many issues that can be caused when dealing with encryption. Sometimes the encrpted passwords can end up with problematic characters. etc etc Maybe the users are changing there passwords to ones that do that... after you fix them.. Its hard to say
I know as I had to sort things like out when I designed version 7 which has built in encrpytion.
It could be anything really.. since you made changes like you sorta need to figure out what is backfiring. There has to be a reason.

Dave , Just copy the files over. have permissions set on any folders that need it, and edit the data connection so it's valid for the new server. Once you get logged to the admin area go update all the settings so any urls are valid.
really its no different than a new installation so just follow those directions but use your existing files.
There is no domain pointing involved...
As logn as the old stuff is not accesible on the live internet you don't need another license.
As for my installation fee of 25. That is only for new installations. I charge more for something like that as there may be compications such as custom changes to the code that I would have to deal with. Customers often custimize the login and users area.. etc etc .. and there may be hardcoded urls and what not to worry about changing.
LASTLY, I noticed all your other posts are in the ASPProtect 7 area so the installaton process for that is a bit different than for Version 6 so what I said above is not quite the same process. Please make sure you post in the correct area when asking questions. , Hi,
1. Two months ago, we have set up to use the Subscription services exclusively for all new members and renews. and removed the regular payment service, a carry-over from v6.
2. Many from the "pre-subscription" service have yet to expire, thus have a populated expiry field.
3. With a 10 month bridge before we get all the members onto the Subscription service the "Send email to users that are soon to expire."
is used to remind these.
3. When members RENEW using the subscription service, the Expiry Field is not Nulled and they become targets for future reminders although they have renewed as Subscribers.
XYZ signed up on Nov. 05 2004, we send him a reminder in Oct 2005 and he renews as a SUBSCRIBER. His expiry date field is not nulled and he will keep getting notices although he has paid for another year.
