Active Server Pages help tutorial how to ASP Help ASP Tutorials ASP Programming ASP Code - ASP Free CJWSoft ASPProtect ASPBanner ASPClassifieds

Blog Entry: 3/25/2006 4:29:12 PM

CJWSoft offers a mutually beneficial partnership program for resellers of our Active Server Pages Based Web applications.

The program is very simple.

  • You offer our products to your customer's as Ready-to-Run Web Site Applications.
  • We sell your company our software at a 50% discount allowing you to re-sell if for the same price we sell it for or slightly higher.
  • Your company installs the application in the customer's web site and configures it for the customer.
  • Your company is in charge of installation support and general usage issues. We handle other more complex issues as usual.

Each time a customer purchases an application from you, you are required to purchase a license from us.
These must be purchased online via PayPal. You will be give a special password protected URL where these purchases can be made. You are in charge of setting up a system for your customers to purchase the software from you. You are also responsible for purchasing a license from us within 7 days of a license being purchased from you.

Below are the applications currently eligible for the program.
They have been chosen because of their popularity and reliability.
You must resell all three applications below.
The details and pricing of this program may change at any time.

ASPBanner ASPBanner Standard sells for 99.95 (You pay 49.95)

ASPBanner Standard is a high end Banner Rotation system. Web Based Administration for managing the users and banners in the database. Advertisers can monitor online statistical reports via their web browsers.

We are looking for Web Hosting Companies and ISP's who can sell an average of 2 applications per month.
If you are not a serious company with a professionally done website you need not apply.
We are not looking for mom & pop operations.

To be very clear:
We are looking for experienced ASP Development/Hosting Companies that are serious about being a reseller and ready to go.
We need knowledgeable resellers that are experienced with ASP and will be able to install the application for the customers and handle some of the general installation issues that may come up.

To qualify for the program:

Please send us a brief overview of your company, Website URL, and your expectations for the program. After looking over your information we will get back to you with a response.

Contact us

Additional Info:

Our applications run on NT based servers only with true Microsoft ASP support. They do not run under Chilisoft. Our applications are licensed per website. That means one running installation of the database and scripts. Qualified resellers will be reviewed every quarter to see if they are meeting the 2 application per month quota.

AND LASTLY PLEASE DONT WASTE OUR TIME. IF YOU ARE NOT SERIOUS DONT EVEN BOTHER APPLYING. I HAVE HAD A LOT OF WANNABES SIGN UP FOR THE PROGRAM AND THEY ARE EITHER NOTHING BUT A PAIN IN THE BUTT OR THEY NEVER SELL ANYTHING. IF THAT IS YOU DONT BOTHER. ON THE OTHER HAND IF YOU ARE A GOOD SIZED COMPANY AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING WE WE"LL HAVE A WONDERFUL AND PROFITABLE RELATIONSHIP.

cwilliams38426.5449537037,
Is that a real term or just something you named it cause they have like a zillion people using that SQL server?
yeah thats it, you buy into a part of the sql server so it's an sql server hotel...

,

The application is only intended for use with the way it comes.
Use of other currencies is not supported.
(this is noted on the product page)

However, it can probably be used fairly easily with UK customers.

You'll probably want to look into setting the currency to UK in the code generated for the PayPal buttons which is in "view_item.asp". There is probably a hidden form variable you add to it to specify the currency. PayPal's shopping cart documentation and help system would have more info on that.

Doing a search real quick there I came up with this.

<input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="GBP">

Then you may also want to change the LCID settings for the web site to UK. (I think)

To do that edit the "config_inc.asp" file with a text editor.

Add this code between the <% and %> tags.
Near the top is good

Session.LCID = 2057

There may also be hard coded dollar signs in the code that you will need to change to whatever.. If after you do the above to steps you see then you'll know where to change them based on the named of the page you on.

It is quite possible that simply changing the LCID will take care of everything, but I am not sure.

Those are the tips I can give you. ,

Perfect exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks

, My server is Server2003.  I could not find the folder settings you mentioned.  I did find a iuser which I added as specified.  I retried to perform an upload.   Still same message.  But it does move the JPG to the picture folder.  So, part of it is working. ,

been working on this for about 5 hours today.. I think I found the problem and it involves a vbNullChar that the encryption process is creating only during login attempts

it then messes up during ASPProtect authentication because it blows up the SQL Statement to the database

like I mentioned before the chances off this happening are slim but possible as two people so far have been able to create the situation

I seem to have the HANNAH password working now using your encrption key

I need a little bit more time to clean up the files I have been working on. Then I will give you new "check_user_inc.asp" and "check_admin_inc.asp" files to try out

,

I encountered a problem that I haven't been able to solve. I'm trying to get .pdf files to byte serve (page-by-page load in the browser) but unable to do so. I've narrowed it down to stream download file where it creates the header object. I haven't made any success with the changes I've tried. Any help would be very nice.

This maybe useful:

,

sorry your having so much trouble. A good host is a must.

Yes, that is most likely permissions related.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo27-1.htm

You may want to read over my article on how permissions are set. It will give you a very good understanding of the process and may help yo when dealing with your hosting company.

http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_2003_server_and_ permissions.asp

there is also an xp pro version of the article for people doing locl development and running iis on their xp box
http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_xp_pro_and_permi ssions.asp

, Then you should have current enough code.

If you PM me the encryption key you are using and the plain text password for this user I can see if I can reproduce the error and come up with a fix.

I believe you found one of the rare examples where the encryption creates a strange character that messes up things. Sometimes those characters are not even visable.

Changing the password should solve the problem in the meantime.,

Please be more specific. What hit count are we talking about ?

User Logging ? Albums ? Something else ?

Please descriube the situation in detail. There are really no settings for any sort of hit count.

, You know what, you really are frigin goofy to say you might think we didn't write the software. I got source code to the license dll as well as about 12 revisions of the application sitting on my development server as well as about 1200 emails between John & Myself as we worked on it. Not to mention all those .vb files that come with the application. What do you think those are ? I bet you don't even really know based on something you said in one of your earlier forum posts.

Did you even read this cause this is YOU... !!!
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo234-1.htm
And we say right on the ASPProtect.NET product page to read that article before making a purchase.

Moving on... it basically says on the site ASPProtect.NET works the way it is shown to work. You can use it that way or you can further edit the code with Visual Studio.NET. If you are so good with asp.net then you should be editing the code to work differently or writing your own authentication that works exactly how you want it to. End of story. You keep arguing about things your done... you are so done !!! I won't keep putting up with you.,

far as I can tell it does... that session abandon thing called in the logoff page should be enough to cover everything

once thing to be careful about

If you log in.. then log off... then go back to a page and do a refresh... you  may in fact be reposting the username and password from before.. thus logging yourself right back in

Perhaps not.. all depends on what your doing... but it is something to be careful of when testing

cwilliams38341.7390509259, Oh, to clarify the above.  We did not change any columns in your [Users] database or any other table.,

I purchased and installed the full version ASPProtect 6.0 in Feb 05 (must have been just before 7.0 came out) and have been using CDONTS for email authorization during the registration process.

It was working fine for about three months. Now, after registering, the  email  authorization is NOT delivered to the new registrant. There are no error messages.It just doesn't arrive.

Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

, "get_me_in.asp" just hangs during a new install. Nothing happens no matter how long you wait and IIS may temporarily hang up as well.

You may very well be running something like norton antivirus with norton script blocker on your server? Or something similar?

It can cause issues when ASP uses the filesystem object and cause never ending page hangs like you are having.

Read this..
http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2180,

I will actually explain how to set access_levels and/or groups...

in "users/add_new_account.asp"

carefully edit with a text editor
find this part

CmdAddUser.Fields("Access_Level") = "4"

that is where the acess level gets set...
you can change the level or remove that line all together if you dont want one set

now for groups you would add this line in the same area

CmdAddUser.Fields("Groups") = "*3*"

or

CmdAddUser.Fields("Groups") = "*1*,*2*,*3*"

Groups access for a user is stored in one field in the database like you see above. If you are confused what you should be saving in that field I suggest simply setting a user to whatever groups you want via the admin area and then looking in the database to see what got saved in that field. It's pretty simple really how they are stored.

*1*,*5*,*9*

that user would be a member of groups 1,5, and 9
,

Great suggestion, routing the banner click through an intermediate page before the destination.  We use Deepmetrix LiveSTATS.xsp V7 and I should be able to configure a filter to capture the stats of the intermediate page.

Thanks for the help!
Lance

,

Ok i was wanting to know what the "if then" statement would be if i wanted to show xxx if your group is xxx.

I tried

    <% If Session("Groups") = "1" then%>
    <font size="2">TEXT HERE</font>
    <%end if%>

But that did not seem to work.

,

The setting I am most interested in is what you have for the "Pic_Max_Image_Width" used when the image resizing components resize the big image

setting it to nothing or zero could cause this

, site looks fine in ie and also firefox from a windows machine..

I dont have a mac and I have not heard of that browser before

Sounds like an issue with the way that browser handles and puts together html/flash in relation to the layout of your site which is fairly complex

less likely - could also be related to computer processor/resources as that is a decent sized flash file and could bog down certain machines on the client level.. internet connection as well ?

those are my guesses.. I dont see anything wrong from windows xp web browsing from a fast machine and on broadband.. looks pretty nice actually ,

You can also try setting asphttp's user agent property to some browser version like in this example. It might stop that info from showing up when it fetches a page from the server.

<%
Dim BanObj1Http
Set BanObj1Http = Server.CreateObject("AspHTTP.Conn")
BanObj1Http.UserAgent = "Mozilla Compatible (MS IE 3.01 WinNT)"
BanObj1Http.Url = " http://banserver.powerasp.com/aspbanner/aspbanner_inc.asp?Ba nnerZone=1"
Response.Write BanObj1Http.GetURL
set BanObj1Http = nothing
%>

Also... I dont know if these values below will work but I got them from looking at my nt logs.

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)

And here is more info on the asphttp component and it's settings.
http://www.serverobjects.com/comp/asphttp3.htm

cwilliams38248.6481365741,

I am attempting to have the page dedirect from the group, as some of my users are part of different and multiple groups (they are not structured in access levels, b/c they cannot be part of multiple levels(?)).  So I think I need to redirect by group.  I am having trouble having this work correctly.

-j

, I have found the alternate databases and they do not work either. I then went back and changed the database path in the asptest page to connect to the 2000 and 2002 test databases and it connected successfully to both of those databases, just as it had successfully connected to the asptest.mdb.,

any asp code that accesses an access database, writes to text files, or allows for picture uploading will need permissions set on certain directories

every application out there is going to need permissions set at some point

its just a fact.. and if your hosting company does not give you a way to manage permissions or have it done when you ask they do not know what they are doing and they are not supporting your asp hosting needs

see my article for more info on the whole process
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo136-1.htm
the part newar the bottom talks about hosting companies

IMPORTANT UPDATE - READ THIS
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=205& ;PN=1

The IPN Subscription Pack which is built in to ASPProtect 7 contains all the pre-built scripts you need to implement PayPal IPN Subscriptions with ASPProtect. IPN stands for (Instant Payment Notification). It allows you to set up scripts on your server so whenever a PayPal payment is processed the PayPal server sends info to your server regarding the transaction and vice versa. This is a fully automated process and allows you to charge users for access by the month or however long you like.

The Subscription feature of PayPal handles recurring billing automatically. The PayPal server will communicate with the ASPProtect system and keep everything up to date with users and their subscriptions.

This Support Pack basically gives you an additional signup and registration directory "paypal_sub_signup" and it should not interfere with any changes or customizations you have made to your ASPProtect setup. New users can register in this directory and sign up for a subscription at the same time. Existing users whether active or expired can be sent to this directory where they can lookup their account and start a subscription. You can also assign various Access and Group Levels during signup and you can set up various prices for various amounts of time as well. This is a real-time setup for the most part. As soon as a user pays via PayPal your system is updated and they will have access.

To use this all you need to do in ASPProtect 7 is enter your PayPal account name into the settings screen. It will be an email address. You'll need a business or premier account with PayPal and you will need log into your PayPal account and turn on IPN in you profile. They make you enter a default IPN URL. We do not use that so if you already have something there leave it there. If you dont have something there you can type in any the full url to any page on your server. It's probably best to send it to an empty ".asp" page or something.

Changing Payment Options

In the "paypal1.asp" file there are some sample payment options set up.

They look like this and you can have as many as you like.

<!-- Begin Payment Option Code -->
<form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post" target="_blank">

<% Label = "Membership (1 Month) $9.99 Recurring" %>
<!-- Begin Form Fields You Can Edit.. See PayPal Subscription Manual For Details -->
<input type="hidden" name="no_shipping" value="1">
<input type="hidden" name="no_note" value="1">
<input type="hidden" name="a3" value="9.99">
<input type="hidden" name="p3" value="1">
<input type="hidden" name="t3" value="M">
<input type="hidden" name="src" value="1">
<input type="hidden" name="sra" value="1">
<!-- Field Below must have 2 commas First two values are optional (access level,groups,user ID)-->
<input type="hidden" name="custom" value=",,<% =User_ID %>">
<!-- End Form Fields You Can Edit.. See PayPal Subscription Manual For Details -->

<!--#INCLUDE FILE="form_data_inc.asp"-->
<input type="image" src="https://www.paypal.com/images/x-click-but20.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="Make payments with PayPal - it's fast, free and secure!">

</form>
<hr>
<!-- End Payment Option Code -->

To really understand what these form values mean it is best to look through the PayPal Subscriptions Manual which is a PDF file you can get from the PayPal Site.

This link was valid the last I checked...
Subscriptions and Recurring Payments Manual

It also may be helpful to use their wizard to create some subscription buttons with different settings and then look at the code generated.

Bascially these are the important ones..

  • a3 - amount to billed each recurrence
  • t3 - time period (D=days, W=weeks, M=months, Y=years)
  • p3 - number of time periods between each recurrence
  • The custom field is something we are using to send info from ASPProtect to PayPal.
    it allows you to set the access_level or groups access (groups support require the ASPProtect Option Pack)

    <input type="hidden" name="custom" value=",,<% =User_ID %>">

    or this example where we are setting the access_level to (2) and also giving the user access to groups (3 and 4)

    <input type="hidden" name="custom" value="
    2,*3*4*,<% =User_ID %>">

    Here is how it works.
    The value setting (red) is essentially and array that can be made up 3 elements separated by comma's

    access_level,groups,User_ID

    If you do not want to set the access_level or groups access.. then you don't even need to edit the setting.

    Values must be separated by a comma even if there is no value and there can be no spaces.  If you didn't want to set an access level or groups there would still be 2 commas at the beginning.  etc etc
    Basically there must always be 2 commas but you only have to set last values which is the User_ID from the ASPProtect system.

    The 1st value is the access level you want to user assigned to.
    The 2nd option is the groups you want the user assigned to. (requires option pack)
    The 3rd option is the User_ID which the system takes care of. Do not edit this option. Leave it as <% =User_ID %>

    cwilliams38421.7141782407,

    Chris,

    Yesterday when I would access the get_me_in page with the password key, I was then taken to the default login page.  It did not give me the option to create a user.

    Today, when I entered the password key into the get_me_in page, I was taken right to the create user page.  So, yes the problem has been resolved.  I have no idea why though.

    ,

    Hello Chris:

    Let me run some more test if it's working on your end it should be on mine?  I have made some custom updates to the code but no in that area.

    Thanks,
    -
    Ricardo

    , Unfortunatley, I dont have an easy answer for you. It is certainly doable but adjusting the code so people assigned to certain groups get specific expiration dates means a lot of code work and time. It would probably even take me a long time to figure out.

    The fact that users can belong to more than one group also greatly complicats the whole idea.

    You can certainly assign an expiration level when someone signs up. That is easy and explained in the forums. ,

    Why all the pages at the directory .../password_admin/ are very slow to open online?

    vaghelis38300.5280208333,

    For all you advanced users..

    Here are two examples of ASP.NET code you can use on your ".aspx" pages to call banners from the ASP 3.0 version of ASPBaner Unlimited V8

    This code is not supported... and you of course must change things accordingly like the variable names and zone numbers to match the zone you want to call banners from as well as the url.

    cwilliams38226.6523263889,

    Hello,

    My guess your having trouble setting up a system dsn because the database has a password set on it. Your hosting company most likely sets up DSNs without using the advanced tab which is where the authentication information goes. Or they have some sort of web interface for the customers to use that doesn’t allow setting up that information.System DSN’s are actually difficult to set up correctly when the database has a password on it. There is of course a password on the database for security reasons so if someone ever downloads it somehow they will not get your information.

    System DSN’s are not the way to go regardless as you will see mentioned at our support site.

    http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9&P N=1

    You really should try setting up a DSN-less connection. It is the best way to go. They are easier to set up, perform better, and are less load on the server. Any host that wants it customers to use system dsn’s is not on the ball as far as server performance and server resource conservation goes. They are really asking for trouble down the road.

    All you need to do to make dsn-less connection is the following.

    Get permissions set for the folder the database is in (by your host)… then figure out the physical path on the server to the database by using server.mappath or you simply ask your host for the info.

    An article I wrote on using server.mappath

    http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/physical-path.asp

    Then your connection string will look something like this.. (of course you edit the path to match what server.mappath tells you. And you make sure the database name is correct)

    ListingsConnectionString = "DBQ=C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\asplistings\_database\asplistings_ac cess2000.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp"

    Another option would be to simply remove the password from the database using MSACCESS.. then try to connect to it using a System DSN without the password. If your host is storing the databases outside of your web in the root of the server then removing the password on the database is not that bad of a thing to do as there is no way anyone will be able to dload it from your site. Of course there is a still a performace loss when using a system dsn with an Access Database

    cwilliams38145.8540509259,

    Well. fontpage publishing is evil. That you have found out.

    Do not use it. It usually wont work right when running asp code locally and also at the server because of differences with the paths and virtual directory structure. etc etc etc

    You can definetly use frontpage to connect to the web site live and drag and drop files into it/edit them... but the sooner you stop using the publishing feature the better off you will be.

    , if you use our existing User_ID they are going to get new ID's. There is nothing you can do about that.

    You could very easily though stick your exisisting User_ID's in one of the custum fields so you dont lose that info for each member.,

    ok, that probably means the physical path you have set for the logfile directory (in the admin settings area) is not correc t

    the error pretty much means just what it says

    , You cannot use server mappath in the connecting string of the application. If you want to know why read my article.
    http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/physical-path.asp

    Make your connecting string just like in my example.. do not use the oledb connection string either as it will cause other problems.

    If you need to find out the path to the mdb file you can use server.mappath to get that info but do not put server mappath in the connecting string. See my article again.

    then if the database folder has proper permissions and the path to the mdb file is valid it will work... otherwise you get useless errors,  its really that simple.

    You also may want to download ASPTest from www.cjwsoft.com it is designed to show a person how to setup a working data connection.,

    how you connecting... lets see the connection string...

    could be permissions related too.. if they are not set correctly
    (always give them to the folder, never just the mdb file)

    Some of this might help...

    http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo11-1.htm

    http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo136-1.htm

    http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo56-1.htm

    you may want to download some of the different versions of the access database from the support area and try connecting to them as you may have older odbc drivers on the server

    You may also want to try to get ASPTest from our website working before you go any further

    , Very weird for sure but I guarantee no code in ASPProtect is deleting that folder. Something else is going on the server and deleting it and I have no idea what it would be.

    Maybe try leaving a blank text file in it and see if the folder disappears after a few days., Personally, I really wouldnt worry about. Personal Client virus software like that is not really meant to run on servers anyway. That software is meant for client machines, not web servers.

    Any Server designed virus product will not incorporate script blocking features because servers often need to run scripts when dealing with ASP, PHP, CFM, etc etc

    That article I link to has more on all of that.

    Turning that off is nothing to worry about. I been running IIS servers for 8 years.  ,

    I Dont know... it shouldnt do anything like that.

    if it ever asks to download a aspx or asp page its generally a server configuration issue not related to the actual code

    provided you arent trying to grab the injectbanner page through an iframe call which is only for use with the javascript method of calling banners

    , Not without changing a lot of code. If you didn't want encryption you really should have went with version 6. Encryption is a big new feature of Version 7 and it is inter-mixed with it the code in a lot of places.

    As for doing the export and import you have to create a valid export file and then read through this very thread which explains how to import an export file with clear text passwords.

    This is from the admin area regarding the text file format
    The import/export file must be tab delimited with no text qualifiers. The 1st row containing field names and the following each being a new user. To create your own import file it must be in this exact format. To find out what field names and their order are simply create an export file using ASPProtect and take a look at it.

    Generating an import file from your own database requires good knowlege and understanding of Access's Importing and Exporting functions. It is not something I cover as the process is different for everyone and not really very hard. ,
