Are you aware ASP can run on any machine running win95/95,2000,xp pro, 2003. You really should test all asp code locally before running it on live servers but anyway... that is your deal
I am not sure if memory alone will be enough for that server but it could help. I saw a decent amount of free memory when I looked. Its just about an 8-10 year old system on every aspect (processer,OS,Hard drives, memory etc etc) and not only that something is tasking the heck out of the resources left over for asp database access. Something is just wrong. I don't know what it is but I am pretty sure it is not aspprotect. I got rid of my last nt 4 server about 4-5 years ago but the application always ran great on NT and I still have some customers using NT 4. Not many though.
if you email me the import file and the encryption keys you are using I will make a database for you.. just zip it up and send it to chris-cjwsoft.com
replace - with @ , Chris, if there is no way to change this, I understand. I just though maybe it might be possible and I can't find out if i don't ask.
Thanks Chris.
Let me know.

,
If you want to have a login form on a non protected page that posts to a protected ".asp" page use code like this.
Change the action of the form to the page you want them to log into. Make sure to page you send them to is protected by the "check_user_inc.asp" file.
<center> <table border="0" width="400" height="200" bgcolor="#000000"> <tr> <td bgcolor="#F4F4F4"> <form method="POST" action="memberarea.asp"> <input type="hidden" name="Status" value="Checkem"> <p align="center"><font face="Arial">ASPProtect Login</font></p> <div align="center"> <center> <table border="0" bgcolor="#C0C0C0"> <tr> <td bgcolor="#EBEBEB"><strong><small><font face="Arial">Username</font></small></stro ng></td> <td><input type="text" name="Username" size="10"></td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#EBEBEB"><strong><small><font face="Arial">Password</font></small></stro ng></td> <td><input type="Password" name="Password" size="10"></td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#EBEBEB" colspan="2"><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size="-1"><input type="checkbox" name="KEEPMESIGNEDIN" value="True">Keep me signed in on this computer unless I log off.</font></td> </tr> </table> </center> </div> <div align="center"> <center> <p> <input type="submit" value="Login"></p> </center> </div> </form> </td> </tr> </table> </center> , Hi, its just not something i can suppport as I do not support custmizations to the code epecially when dealing with an image component that is not supported by the application.
Sorry, its something you have to figure out. Bascially I would suggest looking at the existing asp image resizing code and using that as a guide.
Have you considered just buying a license of ASPImage and asking the host if they will install it after you purchase it. It sounds like it may save you a lot of time.
If you are ever looking for a good host for ASP. www.alentus.com is one of the best. There 9.95 plan gives you access to 3000.00 of commercial quaility asp components also which is nice.
, no, that system only works with ASP.NET code.
Currently it can not possibly work with classic asp. PayPal made it a nightmare to use and work with.
Special things regarding the signing of digital certificates also need to be installed on the web server so if it isn't your server your also out of luck. , It appears there is an auto logout after inactivity for a period of time. How does one change the default time allowed for inactivity?
thx , gotcha...thanks. , Hi
ASPBanner is great...
I have a little problem I have a ASP site http://www.bythebeach.com.au/
I understand how Zones (location on a pages) works but i need only to display those banners that pertain only to that catorgries or sub catorgries.
How would i do that would .... Would i have to add a new field in the database...?
Any help would be greatly apprecaited

Sydney, Australia , Hi Chris:
Is there a way I can include the username and password in the URL of a protected page to gain access to a that page without going through the log-in page?
I'm not quite sure what the syntax would be in the URL.
Warren , i've got a client who has handed me a 151 character banner URL, and i see that the database is designed to take 150 characters. i took the obvious step of just increasing the size of that text field in the database, but i still get this error when i try to enter the URL in the proper form field:
Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.
/banners/aspbanner/save_banner.asp, line 200
now, line 200 is just this:
If Banner_Link_URL = "" THEN CmdEditBanner.Fields("Banner_Link_URL") = NULL Else CmdEditBanner.Fields("Banner_Link_URL") = Banner_Link_URL End If
which tells me that something is blocking the assignment of that long value to that field, even though i believed i had extended the length of that field in the source database.
where else might i look?
, Chris-
That appears to have fixed it!!! Thanks alot for your patience, I will never question your brilliance (or customer service) again! Where do I write you a smashing review?
Thanks!
, Hi, I haven't heard anything from you.
Has this issue been resolved ?
Thanks , I assume you mean 500 pixels wide
no.. because you cant reliably tell a pictures image width without an image resizing component to look it up.. asp can not do things like that on its own
serverobjects has a free component called "imagesize" that can do it as well but you need access to the server to install the component http://www.serverobjects.com/products.htm
so if you cant do that with regular asp code you definetly can not stop the upload proces because the picture is too wide..
heck, that would be nearly imposible to do regardless.. even with the best 3rd party components at your disposal
even with an image resizing component you would have to allow the upload.. then check the pixel width.. then delete it.. tell the user what is going on...etc etc .. all a very complicated process
, As I already had directories in my web site root called 'images' and 'templates' I loaded the files into a sub directory called 'aspprotect' as suggested in the installation guide where it say 'either way it really doesn't matter'.
However, it does.
The scripts are often looking for a file which it can't find because the /aspprotect part of the path is missing. Example:
I can't find a way of editing all the scripts that need changing. I'm assuming it would be easier to change my site to avoid using subdirectories used by aspprotect and reinstalling from scratch straight into the root directory.
Anyone with any suggestions?
Many thanks
Ian , No problem. I get it now.
I added a Session Variable for "Counter". Then wrote an If statement around that. When the user logs on for the first time they see a window pop, after that the normal start page.
Thanks
, The count is in the album area where the small pictures and description of album. Viewed 1 time(s) This count never changes.
Thanks
John , ASPProtect v7 comes with working example code of protecting an image from being downloaded and also protects the true file location of the image on your server..
This comes with the system as an example folder with some files in it.
(some of the initial purchaser's of the system might not have that directory.. if that is the case please ask)
Here is how it works...
Basically we protect the image in 2 ways.
- We use Javascript right click disabling code that works in both IE and Firefox.
- We stream the image via a special password protected ".asp" page and use an image tag to call it. This hides the true location of the file. You can therefore keep your images out of your web or keep them in a folder in your web that does not allow file browsing. Under this scenario even if someone looks at the img tag html source they can not tell where the file came from. Doing all of this allows you to offer certain images only to people that are logged in.
All in all this is should be very effective protection. Yes, there are still ways to get the images like doing screen captures, but this will ensure that people viewing images are logged in to your site. This will in most cases keep them from right clicking and saving the images. This will ensure that people can not tell other people the image's url location and it will ensure other sites can not leach your images and bandwidth.
For the image protection examples to work you may need to edit some values in the stream_pic.asp file that are valid for your setup.
Look at the source. The values you can edit are commented.
Now, you also need to call a valid "image file name" from the call_pic.asp file which is an example of how you protect a page with javascript and call a streamed image using an image tag.
Lasty, here is a great article I found on image protection and some of the things you can do about it and some of things you cannot.
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID =41 , I have added two users in different group access but none of them can login to the pages
, now. I just went to that url and this is the error I see which shows me there is a character in the source code that shouldnt be there which is causing the page to halt.
Looks like a "carrot".
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0400'

^ , Is there a way to know if it is a SQL server with IIS5? My database type is MSACCESS.
Thanks! Rhona (rookie) , Yes, I created it using the scripts.
, Gotcha.
Can you set an expiration date on a subscription?
Thanks,
Jess , Chris -
Sorry, I am looking at your code on view_item.asp and I have noticed that you are calling 3 variable; start_date, end_date, and image_url that do not exist in the databases that you provided. Do I have the updated package for ASPVendor?
, I am also getting the "Unspecified Error" message. I just transferred my site to IIS 5.0 and I get that error now. However it does not happen everytime. I can click on a page and it opens fine and then I hit refresh in the browser and I get the "Unspecified Error" message. What could be causing this?
, Just installed software, when I attempt to log on I get the following error (actually this is after I moved some of the include files to user).
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0131'
Disallowed Parent Path
/gallery_admin/default.asp, line 25
The Include file '../dataconn_inc.asp' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.
What do I need to do to fix?
thanks. , Sorry, you cannot, that is how it works and that is how it has to work for reasons I am not going to try to explain as it is pretty technical. (it works the same way even when not using paypal and using email authentication... nearly every registration system out there does it that way under an email authentication scenario or a PayPal IPN thing.)
Basically, if you are concerned about it you need to periodically manually check for accounts that were never activated and delete them. Maybe when I get some time some day I will make a little interface to help find those and clean them up at once.
, you actually dont touch any of those UploadDirectory = CmdGetConfiguration("UploadDirectory") They get set from the config table in the database which gets edited in the admin area.
so...
I am talking about the settings area in the admin area of the applicaton. Every setting there is descibed in detail. You get there and change serttings there via the web browser and by logging in as the admin.
Log in to the online demo as admin and check out the settings area if you are confused. http://www.aspphotogallery.com/demo_pro.asp

OK, you have old code then... I will send you some updated files that you can try.. let me know here if it solves the problem. , SQL Server Datareader Datawriter Permissions..
here is a screenshot that shows how to set datareader and datawriter permissions on a database using "SQL Enterprise Manager"
In this example we are making sure the aspbanneruser has those permissions on the aspbanner database in the SQL Server
cwilliams38390.5986921296, really all depends on the sql connection string you are using and the names of your sql user you are using...
you really havent described very much..
I'd double check all of it.. something is wrong cwilliams38325.8892824074, My client has a list of 13,000 members that
have already been assigned ID's and passwords with a
homegrown system.
When doing a bulk import, will we be able to retain the userid and password or will a new id be assigned during the bulk load?
Thanks in advance for your help.
, The ASPProtect v7.x Documentation is now available as a download in windows ".chm" format. (needs to be viewed on a windows based machine that can read it) If you are using XP with Service Pack 2 follow the instructions below or you will not be able to view the help file.
Download Documentation
You should save this file and then open it. Just opening it from download may not work and you will not be able to read it correctly.
Please continue to check the support forum threads for the most up to date documentation.
IMPORTANT If your are using xp with service pack 2 there are some new security features that can block the access of help files you download. So as far as the ".chm" file goes.. you have to download it... right click on it...go to properties... then choose unblock down in the lower right corner ...then you can open and view the file correctly , I really need more info on what you have going on?
This can sometimes be cause by a slow server / bad data connection.
Sometimes caused when someone is using the option pack but did not make the proper changes to the database.
Sometimes caused when a user adds users the database on his own and does some "incorrect" things..
The more details you can provide the better. Think of anything and everything and describe it.
SQL or MSACCESS... version of either Server OS Using Option Pack or not Did you have your host set permissions...
etc etc etc cwilliams38300.5380092593, Thanks very much for the quick reply.
That sets my mind at ease
I was just worried if users would see warnings in their firewall software too.
I realize that the admin would have to have to go through some errors...
And since we are throwing things in here... Definately, if you have your own server you need a Hardware Firewall and a Managed one at that. The internet can be pretty dangerous for business if you don't.
Plus, I agree Black Ice although in it's heyday a few years ago was considered great. It is not suitable for todays standards alone even for the normal user (But, it is required by the company I work with for VPN. I think it's stupid too using old technology. I have 2 more firewalls setup besides that just so that I do have some security. And, that's just for my PC)...
Thanks , Ohhh...
I was thinking it worked like this; A user goes to that page and logs in.. and from there they can then browse the site and do what they want..
So in order for it to work i need to edit a page say... members.aspx (i assume it needs to be an asp.net page) and in the header put that protect code and when a user accesses it, it will prompt them for their un and pw and then if correct will allow them to view the page... and likewise if they are still logged in will be able to use the page?
If that is how to works as i mentioned above thats great...
I understand the redirect principle...but say i have a log in box on the main page... you know like most pages have a user log in on the left hand side... i wanted to do that. But i cant obviously protect the main home page or else normal users will not be able to view it without logging in or registering , Well, I had no more trouble after I read the instructions.
The PayPal integration is really neat stuff! WOW! And the email
users function got up and running in a snap... this is an awesome
package!
The coolest thing with the user registration is that the account
username and password are selected by the user. That is very very nice.
Much less typing for me to do.
, Well. fontpage publishing is evil. That you have found out.
Do not use it. It usually wont work right when running asp code locally and also at the server because of differences with the paths and virtual directory structure. etc etc etc
You can definetly use frontpage to connect to the web site live and drag and drop files into it/edit them... but the sooner you stop using the publishing feature the better off you will be. , Hi-
Thanks for the quick response to my previous posts.
This is my issue:
I have read over all the docs and installation instructions and can't find a way to do this:
my default page in my root dir will be a log in page which will take the user once his level is validated to a "home page". Is there a page in your examples that will perform the function of this log in page? or should I rename check_user_inc.asp as the default and change it's html output to make it look like my log in page?
I also looked within the code for check_user_inc.asp and did not see where to specify where the user will go once he signs in.
Your help is appreciated , ok, here's a test page: http://www.galvinelectricity.org/download_link.asp
user: test password: test
Our company just got new computers, so everyone here has the same set-up, all Dells, all about 3 weeks old, all Windows XP.
But I did realize after reading your post that I am using Firefox and everyone else was using IE. When I used IE, I was able to duplicate the error.
But, alas, I am unable to resolve it. Client will be using IE, no doubt.
, Chris -
I am encountering a problem with items showing up. When I click on a category and then select an item to view I get
THIS ITEM IS NO LONGER ACTIVE DO NOT CONTACT THIS USER AS THIS ITEM HAS BEEN TURNED OFF OR THE USER HAS SOLD THE ITEM.
I have verified the item has the item_active check. For giggles, I even unchecked with the same results.
Thoughts? ,
