Active Server Pages help tutorial how to ASP Help ASP Tutorials ASP Programming ASP Code - ASP Free CJWSoft ASPProtect ASPBanner ASPClassifieds

Blog Entry: 3/25/2006 4:26:40 PM

Hi,

How do you know permissions are ok in that folder ?
Please tell me more on how they were set.

Please read through my article on how they are set correctly.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo136-1.htm

Often times they are not set correctly or people thingk they set them somehow but in fact did not do it the correct way.

I would also suggest using the "test_physical_path.asp" page in the "extras" folder to verify if the path you are using to the database mdb file is in fact correct. That page should work whether permissions are set or not. At least then you will know if the path is correct or not and you can go from there.

, After you click the link in the confirmation e-mail you are directed to the Thank you page.  Right above is a sign in link.  When I click this I get that funky error message.

I am trying to integrate  the scripts with the look of my site,  if that is what you mean by changing things around too much.  But, I don't think I have done anything out of the ordinary.

Cheers,
Roy

I am having an issue with the Thumbnailing process. My host does not support ASPImage so I have to use something called asp thumbnailer which is similar to ASPImage. I am trying to modify the Dundas upload to automatically reduce the images to create thumbnails. I ripped out the asp image code and replaced with the bottom. The main issue I believe is grabbing the image files. I am not sure how to name the actual image file that is already uploaded by the dundas upload. the code is below:

The peices in red are where the issue is I believe. What you see below is my attempt to identify the exact image and then rename it tthumbnail. My optimal solution would be to take the picture, resize it and rename it exactly what it was named before.

Any ideas

Thanks

<% Else %>

<%
 Dim thumbObj

 Set thumbObj = Server.CreateObject("ASPThumbnailer2.Thumbnail")

 If thumbObj.LoadFromWeb("../pictures/" & Filename) Then
     thumbObj.ThumbMaxDimension = 140
     If thumbObj.CreateThumbnailToWeb("../pictures/Thumbnail.jpg") Then
         Response.Write("Thumbnail successfully created.")
     Else
Response.Write("There was an error creating the thumbnail.")
     End If
 Else
Response.Write("<p><hr><b>Unable to load the original image.</b><hr>")

cmdTemp.CommandType = 1
Set cmdTemp.ActiveConnection = ConnClassified

, it might.. I might be wrong though as I guess that could still be an issue with access not being able to keep up.. and then the xml parser just isnt getting the page it is requesting in time,

I purchased and installed the full version ASPProtect 6.0 in Feb 05 (must have been just before 7.0 came out) and have been using CDONTS for email authorization during the registration process.

It was working fine for about three months. Now, after registering, the  email  authorization is NOT delivered to the new registrant. There are no error messages. It just doesn't arrive.

Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

, I really need more detailed information to say anything about it.

I would try different methods of calling banners as well to see if that helps.,

I really need more info on what you have going on?

This can sometimes be cause by a slow server / bad data connection.

Sometimes caused when someone is using the option pack but did not make the proper changes to the database.

Sometimes caused when a user adds users the database on his own and does some "incorrect" things..

The more details you can provide the better. Think of anything and everything and describe it.

SQL or MSACCESS... version of either
Server OS
Using Option Pack or not
Did you have your host set permissions...

etc etc etc

cwilliams38300.5380092593,

I am still a little confused... one thing I would like to mention is that the passwords in the aspprotect database are encrypted... meaning you cant just add a password to the user database by hand because it wont be the encrypted value and wont work.

It is something the application takes care of when you add a user via the web based interface.

You can however still add users manaully or with careful import/exporting... but you will have to use the existing password conversion technique which is covered at the end of our upgrade instructions in these forums.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo174-1.htm

Basically you want to add a field to the "ASPP_Users" table called "Old_Password" and that is where you enter the password in plain text. Then after you are finished adding users to the database manually you do this.

You want to run a special page via the browser.

http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/convert_to_encrypted.asp

Which will convert the passwords to the encrypted value for you.
See the bottom of this thread for all the info on that.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo174-1.htm

, Just want to be able to log users in from the home page via a username and password box somewhere say on the left hand side with a login button. Like most sites have.... i cant seem to figure out how to do that with the software.

My other question is..Is there a way to incorporate this software into an event registry? What i mean is this:

Say a company is having a pool party, BBQ, and tennis lessons (just examples)

When a user registers with aspprotect i want him/her to have the option to register for one of the events. Also, I as the admin, would like to be able to view who and how many registered for each event... Here is what i am talking about (and it has a payment option to charge for an event which would be PERFECT if you could do) http://www.cescripts.com/demo/registration/view-events.php

Please let me know if there is a way to add this option or create...

THANKS!

UPDATE

Version 8.1 has code generators for these new methods built in...

, If you makes you feel any better the photo gallery app runs awesome off an access database. Mostly because all of the picture work is done in the filesystem, not the database. The load on the database is relatively low even with a lot of users.,

I am not sure totally understand your question.
I need you to explain it differently.

Any ".asp" page that is protected is going to automatically prompt them for a login box or log them in automatically depending on if they set that option.. In the end returning them to that same page.

So, it really all takes care of itself for the most part.. It doesn't even matter if the bookmark a protected page deep in your site. The system is smart enough to keep them at that page as well as handle their access.

Now of course if they are at an unprotected page of your site and navigate to a protected page they get a loin prompt or are allowed in if they already logged in...

Also.. when you say unprotected page ? do you mean ".htm" or ".asp"

cwilliams38298.6571759259, I have ASPPhotoGallery installed. Everything has been working great for some time. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, I am not getting the "Hits" incremented when a user opens an album. It works when an administrator is logged on. Does not for any anonymous users. Everything else seems to work fine. Again, this used to work. Any ideas. , not anything built into the app... it would be done with client side javascript if you wanted to look into it...  my client side javascript skills are ziltch, You know what, you really are frigin goofy to say you might think we didn't write the software. I got source code to the license dll as well as about 12 revisions of the application sitting on my development server as well as about 1200 emails between John & Myself as we worked on it. Not to mention all those .vb files that come with the application. What do you think those are ? I bet you don't even really know based on something you said in one of your earlier forum posts.

Did you even read this cause this is YOU... !!!
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo234-1.htm
And we say right on the ASPProtect.NET product page to read that article before making a purchase.

Moving on... it basically says on the site ASPProtect.NET works the way it is shown to work. You can use it that way or you can further edit the code with Visual Studio.NET. If you are so good with asp.net then you should be editing the code to work differently or writing your own authentication that works exactly how you want it to. End of story. You keep arguing about things your done... you are so done !!! I won't keep putting up with you., SQL Server Database Information Mod

This mod is only for customers running SQL server. It is a new stored procedure and a new version of the "server_info.asp" file that will display information about your SQL database on the Server Info page.

Purchase Page

This is for Advanced SQL Users only that understand how to add a Stored Procedure to a SQL Database as well as assign permissions and what not.

To install this mod you should have access to SQL Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer as well as be able to grant your SQL database user EXEC permissions on the new stored procedure. ,

I recently upgraded my ASPclassifieds from MS Access to SQL.  The application launches, I can browse existing catagories, etc. but when I try clicking on the login, guestbook, register or accessing the classifieds_admin,  I get the HTTP 500 - Internal server error.  Guessing this must be a folder or file permission issue?  Have tried changing IUSR permissions but nothing helps.

Please advise.
Thanks, lancem

,

Chris, if there is no way to change this, I understand. I just though maybe it might be possible and I can't find out if i don't ask.

Thanks Chris.

Let me know.

,

humm, yea thats a data connection error..
really not related to the asp code in the application for the most part.

that is low level

If using MSACCESS

I would make sure permissions are set correctly on the database folder (not just the database file itself)

I would make sure your using at least a 2000 version of the database. 2003-2003 format being better..

I would make sure the server has up to date mdac/odbc drivers.. (that is really the server admins responsibility)

As for permissions there are articles in our forums about exactly how they need to be set. Improper permissions can cause a ton of random errors like that.

cwilliams38414.6528240741, The mass picyure import does not work like that. It involves no uploading component.

Only an admin can do a mass import on an album and they have to ftp the images into the site in that upload folder before they go do the mass import thing. ,

The sql script creates aspgalleryuser

dataconn_inc.asp out of the box indicates aspgallery as the user.

GalleryConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=127.0.0.1;Initial Catalog=aspgallery;User Id=aspgallery;Password=temp;"

,

ASPProtect v7 comes with working example code of protecting a file download.

This comes with the system as an example folder with some files in it.

(some of the initial purchaser's of the system might not have that directory.. if that is the case please ask)

Here is how it works...

Basically we protect the file download by only allowing a logged in user to download it. The special ".asp" page we use the stream the file is password protected. It also hides the true location of the file so you can keep your files out of your web or keep them in a folder in your web that does not allow file browsing. Under this scenario even if someone looks at the html source they can not tell where the file really came from and they can only download if they are logged in and you offered them the link to the file.

For the file download protection examples to work you may need to edit some values
in the stream_download.asp file that are valid for your setup.

Look at the source. The values you can edit are commented.

Now, you also need to call a valid "download file name" from the download_link.asp file which is an example of how make a download link to the streamed download.

Lastly, we provide a working example. Now, you obviously may need to customize it to fit your needs. Please realize you are going to have to make special download links in your .asp pages and not only should you only show those links to people with appropriate access to download the files, but you should also protect the streaming download page accordingly as well as far as level, groups, and particular users. What I am saying is which files a particular user is allowed to download is not automatically handled by ASPProtect in any way. We give you all the tools to provide protected downloads to logged in users, but if you have complex needs you’re probably going to need to come up with a system that works for you. It's not really difficult because we did all the complicated stuff, but its something you have to sort out.

Perhaps someday in the future ASPProtect will have an interface to upload files and associate them with certain users. But at the moment it does not.

,

DONE IT

DON'T WORRY!

DON'T ASK HOW, BUT NOW IT WORKS!!

THANK YOU IF IT WAS YOU, OR THANK YOU GOD IF IT WAS ME!!!

, on that particular page check the session variables manually (not using the include)

that way you are keeping the login access checking to an absolute minimum, elminating any form processing from the login procedure, and keeping the upload script happy

like so

<%
If Not InStr(Session("Groups"),"*1*") Then
    ' do whatever
End If
%>

you could response.write something followed by a response.end

or you might even want to response.redirect them to some other page that using the "check_user_inc.asp" where they can log in

And if you are going to be using a free asp upload script use this one as it is probably the best pure code upload solution available as far as performance goes.

Parent paths being enabled on the server is a requirement of the application. That error means just what it says.

you can change all the server side includes to virtual includes that will work or you can ask you host to enable parent paths.. those are the options

Hello -

Believe it or not I finally can access the photogallery. You were right Chris regarding the unzipping of the files.

Now onto the next challenge! I have set up three categories and proceeded to create a test album. I uploaded a couple of pictures (yeah that worked!!!) but the album does not show up on the default.asp page under the category.

Please advise -
Rhona (rookie)

, Chris,

Thanks for the reply. It all makes sense.

I have gone with your first option but here is the problem:

I have moved the password protected page from the detail page with the querystring to the straight .asp page. This obviously fixes the previous error.

Once someone has logged in they are then presented with a list of links to the previously protected pricelist detail pages (example - "somepage.asp?ID=3""). They are then able to access the pricelists.

The problem is that if someone copies the pricelist URL they are then able to pass it on to someone else and bypass the password protection.

If I also password protect the pricelist pages then someone will have to login twice.

Is there some code that i can add that will simply check that they have logged in otherwise kick them back out to the protected .asp page.

All code in your documentation tends to open the login page regardless of whether you have previously logged in.

Thanks,

Stuart

,

ok, I am home.. missed flight.. just got home an hour ago.

lets see.. I really need more info...

For starters are you using the delayed stats feature ? that is expirmental and could cause that problem

,

hello,

There is no built in option. You would have to add code to do that.
Its not difficult but custimization like that is not something I support.

,

User Information

After a user logs in there are variables that you can always access.
They can be used to check various things or to display information
dynamically based on who has logged into the system.

   Session("PasswordAccess")
   Session("Access_Level")
   Session("Admin")
   Session("Active")
   Session("Expiration_Date")
   Session("User_ID")
   Session("Groups")
   Session("Redirection_URL")
   Session("Password")
   Session("Username")
   Session("First_Name")

Session("Last_Name")

Session("Company_Name")
   Session("Email")

Session("Address")

Session("City")

Session("State_Province")

Session("Zipcode_Postal_Code")

Session("Phone")
   Session("Custom1")

Session("Custom2")

Session("Custom3")

Session("Custom4")

Session("Custom5")

Session("Custom6")

You can display them on a page at any time using Response.Write like so

<% Response.Write(Session("FIRST_NAME")) %>

or like this

<% = Session("LAST_NAME") %>

cwilliams38419.533900463,

Honestly cannot comment much about v7 since it was just installed on a new server.  We have been running 5.03 for years so I'm looking forward to the new features in v7.

Lance

Hello,

Again, enspecified error are not very helpful.
An error usually tells you at least a line number and page or something.

Please read this as it might help do tell me more.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11& PN=1

As for only happening once in a while. It could be a lot of things.

Version being used (when did you purchase.. what name/email was it under and I can look) ?
What banner method being used?
Access or MSSQL ?
How busy the site is ?
Server Resources ?

cwilliams38414.6114930556,

The ASPProtect v7.x Documentation is now available as a download in windows ".chm" format. (needs to be viewed on a windows based machine that can read it) If you are using XP with Service Pack 2 follow the instructions below or you will not be able to view the help file.

Download Documentation

You should save this file and then open it.
Just opening it from download may not work and you will not be able to read it correctly.

Please continue to check the support forum threads for the most up to date documentation.

IMPORTANT
If your are using xp with service pack 2 there are some new security features that can block the access of help files you download. So as far as the ".chm" file goes.. you have to download it... right click on it...go to properties... then  choose unblock down in the lower right corner ...then you can open and view the file correctly

,

This is what "John Evans" of CJWSoft has to say on the matter...

"I think that’s pretty much impossible. If the server sees a .JPG or .JPEG extension why in the world would it go and try to read it or do anything with it.

I believe there may have been some issues with Outlook and Outlook express that made it look like a vbs script sent as an attachment was actually a JPG because someone found an exploit in those programs and it would appear as if double extension files were one thing when in fact they were not.

Having a real time virus scanner on the server (which any good host will) should also catch anything infected being built on the server drives as the file uploads. Always worked for me and I had a lot of people uploading ZIP files on winxptheme.com at one point. Many had viruses in them although I suspect it was totally innocent on the end users part. Some people didn’t even know they had a virus on their rig.

Fact is anything is possible but I think chances of getting a virus or being hacked in some way from this sort of upload are really slim."

cwilliams38447.0602083333,

If a picture does not show after uploading it is one of the following things.

The upload method chosen is not supported on the server
or
The physical path specified to the pictures folder is not correct.
or
The URL to the Pictures folder is not correct.
or
Permissions to the pictures folder have not been set properly

Here is more information on how permissions are set.

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo136-1.htm
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo56-1.htm

Without more information and the settings you have entered and chosen that is all I can offer for now.

, OK, thanks.., I sent you a PM,
I am sure its permissions as well, but I don't have that much access to the hosted server...lol.

I will use access for now, since it works fine, and try to talk with the hosting people later.

Thanks!
,

Glad it worked

cwilliams38406.5549074074,

Probably not... javascript calling complex javascript is not a good thing and is often a problem.

I would try one of the other methods such as the xml parser if possible.
