no, but in the standard version it probably will not run so great with more than 75 or so.
The unlimited version can handle pretty much whatever., Is it actually possible, with your product, to password-protect the folder that has the actual database without having to require customers browsing the listings to enter a password, or will password-protecting the database folder prevent customers from browsing the classifeds listings?
,
To finalize this thread.. a target was added to the form by the customer by accident thus causing the situation, Is the user ID case sensetive? In my case I use the user email as the login ID., MSACCESS or SQL server ?, Thanks for that.
I have tried InStr("*2*",>"0") in the query design window but it does not return any members.
I have orded a Access Bible to help me in furture
, I would say that it isn't all that difficult using mySQL for the backend....the main thing is to make sure you set the primary keys for auto-incrementing in your database. Alos need to make sure that any DELETE SQL statements are formatted like this
DELETE FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue
and not
DELETE * FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue
The same holds true for using MSSQL
, OK, I just spent like an hour in your site.. I almost gave up
1st off... I don't know what FTP Program/Settings or what OS you are using but all the ASP Protect Files had been reformatted in a odd way which was causing some issues and the database also had problems. Your somehow introducing all sorts of UNIX line breaks to all the files and the database was actually missing some crucial parts of itself and was corrupted. So I had to update everything which means a new database. I have never seen anything like it but I fixed it all. Its something you are doing but I do not know what. Maybe your unzipping method again ?
So to get back into the admin area...

Now, the reason the albums were not showing is because you are using the ole connection string which causes problems like that. However because you host has like the worst setup ever with that network path crap for the site that was the only connection string that would work for some reason.
I highly suggest a new host with a proper setup for running ASP. www.alentus.com
Your hosting companies setup is horrid as far as I am concerned.
Access Databases are not meant to be connected to via a network path.
http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2168
Anyway, I rewrote some of the code because of the ole connection and got the albums showing up for you.. who knows what other problems that OLE connection may bring up in the future.. for now things I tested seem ok.
As for your broken image in the your header/footer... You cant link to images and links using virtual pathing in those includes because the files are called from different directories and will work in some and not others
so when your in the root you see the image, when in a different folder you see a broken image
In other words.
link to
http://www.vickerylightning.com/gallery/vickery_template5_r2 _c1.jpg
not just
vickery_template5_r2_c1.jpg
The same goes for hyperlinks.. use the full url paths
Whatever you do...Back up the gallery folder with my changes before you go doing anything.
, Oh snap. Tried the blank database and got the same errors. Fixed THE
FILE PATHS to conform to the AspProtect 7 setup, and it worked like a
champ. I still need to copy and paste the info, but it's working just
fine with the ones I add manually.
Moral of the story: FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER.
, OK.. I went with using ASPEMAIL. The above did not seem to work. No worries though, where there is a will (with options) there is a way.
cwilliams38394.7265162037, I would like to have the ability to give a user 1 album with the default # of photos in it.
Is the best way to implement this to just add in an album creation
routine during the sigup/registration process and turn off the ability
to create a new album? Or is a user setting prebuilt into the
system for this?
, Attached is a SQL script to create the ASPProtect Database with the Option Pack Changes already applied. This lets you create the database in one step and you wont have to make the option pack changes as they are already there.
This only applies to people using MSSQL and doing a new installation.
This scripts are run via SQL Enterprise Manager.
You make a new database then run this script on it in query manager.
2004-06-14_180056_aspprotect_w_option_pack.zip cwilliams38152.7522569444, I have ASPProtect up and running and I was able to log in with little to now problem after following all of the directions.
I imported my data base of users (approx 5300) into the access db, and now it times out just letting me log in.
I've got full access to the web server to make any changes on that end that I need.
any ideas?
, Now, we can connect to the MySQL database with ASPBanner using the following connection string if we like.
"driver={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};server=localhost;port=3306;uid=root;pwd=temp;databas e=aspbanner;option=16386"
But we really do not want to connect to the aspbanner MySQL database using the "root" account
So, lets make an account to use..
In MySQL Administrator select "User Administration"
Down below you will see the user "root"
Right click on "root" and select "Add new user"

Type in a New MySQL Username and Password
I am going to call my new user "aspbanneruser"
Hit the Schema Privileges" tab

In this case since I am using the root account to manage my MySQL system I am just going to give this new user account what it needs to use the aspbanner database.. you may want to apply more permissions to the new account, that is up to you.. I am giving the new user (select, insert, update, delete, execute) So I right click on the aspbanner and then bring over the permissions I need for it.. and hit apply changes down in the bottom right.
We can now connect to the aspbanner MySQL database using this new account like so.
"driver={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};server=localhost;port=3306;uid=aspbanneruser;pwd=tem p;databas e=aspbanner;option=16386"

, The redirection at 1st login feature is supposed to work like I explain in this thread.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo385-1.htm
Though what you just said is a bit confusing it sounds like you have some sort of browser problem and it is doing the redirect every single time. ?
I would suggest reseting all your browser settings to normal and making sure cookies are enabled because forms based authentication uses session variables and cookies must be enabled for session variables to work correctly. If not something like this could happen as the redirection at 1st login would happen over and over every time.
So try it on other computers and try with firefox as well as IE. Many people go nuts with their browser settings and way too much stuff blocked which can cuse all sorts of issues. Also some script blocking and firewall software can cause problems so disable all of that when testing.
You may also have created some sort of endless loop. (I really need to know way more information on what you did to know that for sure)
You may also want to consider doing your redirects manually meaning you protect a a page and right after the protection you use regular ASP redirect statements to redirect the user whevever you like based on their session info which is available to easily check immediatly after someone gets through the authentication.
I still stand behind my statements that redirection is not good site design. You really really need to understand and plan your ASP pages as well as have a very good understanding of the session and how all of that works if you use redirection with a password authentication scenario. You should never be redirecting someone to an ".htm" pages except during testing because you wont be able to stop users who are not supposed to go there from going there directly.
, Thanks dude, I'll figure it out. I've been ripping apart pieces
of the code to get it. I'm in the process of pulling some things
out to make functions that do specific tasks based on your code.
I actually had a lot of luck yesterday with it.
, Did you do what that thread said so you see a more detailed error ?
Can I see the site and look around.. ?
I just am not sure what is going on from what you are explaining ?
If so private message me with the admin account details and tell me what to do to reproduce the error. , I just told you a lot of different things to try... and I doubt you have tried them in the time since I mentioned them
, I wasnt talking about the date for a banner ad.. I was talking about the date field in the database for a USER if there is one (I dont remember if that app had date fields for user or not and I am not at a computer to take a look)
If you do not know how to directly open up and edit the database then yes you should just make a new user, Done!
I was able to put my experience was based on *40 months* of usage! I
think I bought a version way back in 2001, IIRC, so it's been a long,
happy trip with ASPProtect for me!
, Hi,
I basically explained how I thought that might work here where I went over everything I could think of and suggested you download the free version and see if you could get it working
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo488-1.htm
The part about using the alternate scenario involving querystring info from a url.
I have never done anything like that and that is why I told you what I knew and suggested you try it with the free version...

vaghelis38300.5484143519, SQL Server Datareader Datawriter Permissions..
here is a screenshot that shows how to set datareader and datawriter permissions on an aspbanner database using "SQL Enterprise Manager"
In this example we are making sure the aspbanneruser has those permissions on the aspbanner table in the database

cwilliams38325.8002893519, I have never heard of such a thing...
If the settings are enabled for the web it should work.
That is, as long as your include file syntax is valid.
I run my own windows 2003 server (you are on it now) so I should know
for troubleshooting
try a very very simple example... like a file in a folder.. with a server side include to a file under it
and see if that works
use real simple asp files with nothing crazy in them... and an include like this
<!--#include file = "../myfile.asp"-->
cwilliams38434.5388773148, You cant do it from initial lohin, but you can do it from the time of registration signup.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo170-1.htm
As for the emailing thing it is most likely an email sending issue more than a code problem. For example spam filters incorrectly grabiing those emails or something of that nature..
Best thing to do is try different things for emailing options until you get something that works. I suggest using CDOSYS with a real email server and using a valid email account for yourself at that email domain. SMTP authentication if necessary. This will ensure the emails sent have valid MX records and dont get treated as spam.
, Humm..
I have no idea where links to hose graphics are being called.
I checked the source of edt_banner.asp and I see no calls to any images named like that
I didnt see any calls in the header and footer files either...
, Humm, I can see all those pages loading just fine at both domains so you got me pretty confused at this point as you just said they didnt load.
regardless, the data connection tests are failing with both of them.
so let me ask you again how are you setting permissions on the database folders?
, that erorr in no way means what it says.. it is just a generic error because something failed.
if you want to PM me info on how to get into your site and I will take a look.. I don't think it is something that can be figured out otherwise especially when you are not telling much about what is going on. There are a lot of factors and settings that are relevant. , Trying to make sense of this. I am still confused. In the file config_inc.asp. I found the setting for "uploaddirectory". That entry looks like this [UploadDirectory = CmdGetConfiguration("UploadDirectory")]. I assume there is a config file where the value of upload directory is located.
The settings in the config_inc.asp file have not been changed. they are set to the way it was delivered. Is there a document that gives instructions as to what and where the config settings are to be changes?
, Chris: You are right about a little extra coding to make it work. I am still learning .ASP coding, so I did a little web searching and used IF THEN statments to confirm a member logged in with a valid Access Code. If valid, the protected page executes, with the Member's Name and Access Level on a single line at the top of that page. Looks sharp! If not logged in, or a non member (who found the page via Google), I used a Redirect to send s/he to a login page with optional links as you suggested (http://www.vspa.com/aspprotect/vspa-password-failed.asp) . I couldn't get it to work when using Group Access, but I am sure that is just because I am a novice at .ASP (I will post that example when I figure it out). Meanwhile, here's the code I used that works:
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="dataconn_inc.asp"-->
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="config_inc.asp"-->
<% =Session("First_Name") %> <% =Session("Last_Name") %>:
<%
If Session("Access_Level") = "6" Then
Response.Write "VSPA Active Member Access Level 6"
End If
If Session("Access_Level") = "7" Then
Response.Write "VSPA Life Member Access Level 7"
End If
If Session("Access_Level") = "8" Then
Response.Write "VSPA Officer/Staff Access Level 8"
End If
If Session("Access_Level") < "6" Then
Response.Write "Access Level 1-6 NOT AUTHORIZED RESTRICTED AREA ACCESS"
Response.Redirect("vspa-password-failed.asp")
End If
%><!-- http://www.vspa.com/aspprotect/vspa-password-enter.asp -->
<!-- *** End ASPProtect Code *** -->

, You are NEVER supposed to move any files, especially that one. Of course that is going to break a lot of things.
Please put it back the way it was.
You change the path of the include file when you call it, never the location of the include file., What other information do you have ?
Details are very important.
Info on situations where it works... like OS, browser version.. etc etc
Info on situations where it does not work... same stuff
size of the PDF files ?
server info ?
Maybe protect a page and offer a PDF file so myself and some of the forum users can try it and report back what happens.
Also, Many people zip up PDF files when letting people download them as browsers can act pretty odd at times with them. Perhaps that is an option.
, No worries
then..
is there any way I can get rid of those information shown on User activity screen, so I can at least know who logged in current day?
thank you in advance
, It runs on either... I used IIS
I dont remember much about installing it except it went pretty smoothly / no issues, If logfiles do not get created it is most likely one of 3 things
- invalid physical path specified
- permisssions
- filesystem object is disabled on the server
that path doesn't look correct to me for a live professionally set up server but only you or your server admins can know that for sure
you will not get any errors when things arent perfect.. just no physical logs
RecentActiveUsers and RecentPageRequrests are not related to the stored logfile feature.. Recent Activity is a different thing
, Sounds great, Sold!
Thanks Christopher!
, This isn't going to help you much but here is the deal.
The 2checkout support in ASPProtect actually is not supposed to work with 2checkout subscriptions and therefore does not need to use an item number.
It is intended to be used for single payments only with 2checkout as explained in this thread.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo212-1.htm
Single payments with 2checkout use their shopping cart which allows for dynamic payments without needing an item number.
I agree with you that 2checkout's interface is confusing. It's actually about the worst system I have ever seen. I could not make a 2Checkout subscription system because their system is just too limited and I couldn't make it work the way it really needed to.
, Some of our users complained that their users id and passwords are sent in the clear. So we decided to invest in an SSL certificate from Verisign. It has been tested fine with all forms and pages in ASPProtect version 6. The only remaining page which I am not sure how to protect is the home page. Let's say my home page is http://www.MyDomain.com/index.asp. When the user goes to this link he/she will be presented with the check_user_inc.asp page so he/she can enter their ID and PW. So how to make the login information send from this page thru HTTPS?
, you summed it up perfectly... everything you said really
As for the banner software custimizations.. you could just make another folder with a modified admin area (little tweaks here and there so the person logged in only controls their own banners) You'd probably want to add an approval process so nothing they did went live unless you really really trust them. That wouldn't be that hard either.
I always planned to do it someday but I just never have time.
cwilliams38436.2124884259, Hi,
Ok, well... you have a lot of stuff going on there.
More importantly than that.. you cant even log into the admin area using the admin account. There is something majorly wrong with the installation.
I also notice you havent even saved any path settings in the settings page of the admin area. I am looking that over now and filling in the missing info. That information needs to be populated.
,
