No, there is not.
not the way the code ships.. The program keeps tracks of everything by the way it ranames files. The system has been tested to work well with as many as 10,000 images files. Any more than that and you need something a little more serious meant for that amount of images.
You could certainly modify it do work that way if you are good with source code. There are actually as many drawbacks as doing doing it that way as there are advantages.

I got it now. (In Step 4, by the way, you need to click on the web site, not the directory. The directory has its own Properties menu, which is competely different than the Properties menu for the web site.)

Two things you can do to test..
make sure there is at least one ".log" file in that directory.. then if you go to the log file screen and it does not show up in the list the physical path you are using is just not correct
remember the physcial path must contain a drive letter (sometimes a network path starting with // is ok if they have it setup as a network drive)
the other thing you can do is use this script to try and write a simple text file in the directory

Dave , You can't unless you plan on editiing and custimizing the code.
The application is only designed to have one kind of admin and that kind has full access to the admin area.
You can of course give any user access to stats for their banners via the bannerstats page.
That is how it works. There are no other levels of admin access.

The IPN Support Pack which is built in to ASPProtect 7 contains all the pre-built scripts you need to implement PayPal IPN with ASPProtect. IPN stands for (Instant Payment Notification). It allows you to set up scripts on your server so whenever a PayPal web accept order is processed the PayPal server sends info to your server regarding the transaction and vice versa. This is a fully automated process and allows you to charge users for access by the month or however long you like.
This Support Pack basically gives you an additional signup and registration directory "paypal_signup" and it should not interfere with any changes or customizations you have made to your ASPProtect setup in general. New users can register in this directory and pay for membership at the same time. Existing users whether active or expired can be sent to this directory where they can lookup their account and buy additional membership time online. You can also assign various Access and Group Levels during signup and you can set up various prices for various amounts of time as well. This is a real-time setup for the most part. As soon as a user pays via PayPal your system is updated and they will have access.
To use this all you need to do in ASPProtect 7 is enter your PayPal account name into the settings screen. It will be an email address. You'll need a business or premier account with PayPal and you will need log into your PayPal account and turn on IPN in you profile. They make you enter a default IPN URL. We do not use that so if you already have something there leave it there. If you dont have something there you can type in any the full url to any page on your server. It's probably best to send it to an empty ".asp" page or something.
Changing Payment Options
In the "paypal1.asp" file there are form options set up.
They look like this and you can have as many as you like.

In this option... A user has the option to purchase 30 days for $9.95 and he will be set to Access Level 3 when payment in completed.
Here is how it works.
The value setting (red) is essentially and array that can be made up 4 elements separated by comma's
They must be separated by a comma and there can be no spaces. In this example the 4th value was not used but the last comma must still be there. If you didn't want to set an access level and left out the "3" there would 2 commas at the end. etc etc
Basically there must always be 3 commas but you only have to set the 1st 2 values which are days and price.
days,price,access level,groups
The 1st value is the amount of days.
The 2nd value is the price for the amount of days.
The 3rd value is the access level you want to user assigned to.
The 4th option is the groups you want the user assigned to. (see PayPal subscription thread for examples of specifying group info)

So we decided to invest in an SSL certificate from Verisign. It has been tested fine with all forms and pages in ASPProtect version 6. The only remaining page which I am not sure how to protect is the home page. Let's say my home page is http://www.MyDomain.com/index.asp. When the user goes to this link he/she will be presented with the check_user_inc.asp page so he/she can enter their ID and PW. So how to make the login information send from this page thru HTTPS? , I wasnt talking about the date for a banner ad.. I was talking about the date field in the database for a USER if there is one (I dont remember if that app had date fields for user or not and I am not at a computer to take a look)
If you do not know how to directly open up and edit the database then yes you should just make a new user, New question...

Mick , If you are using an ACCESS Database try to avoid using a system DSN. They are much slower because they go through ODBC which then uses the Jet Drivers to access the database. They also have to do a registry lookup.

I'll tell you who was right and who said it 1st. It was me and I said it on my old powerasp.com site before anyone else ever did.
I found it out on my own by experimenting when I was the Systems Analyst for an large ISP. We we had web servers that were not running well. I didn't read about this solution anywhere because no one was talking about it at the time. Microsoft said use System DSN's so everyone just took their word for it.
I took a lot of heat for saying that back in the day but over time everyone started saying it.

Well I'm in the middle of uploading the txt file and it's about half way done and sitting there...so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. , I did not set that variable in the IPN code that aspprotect uses. It is optional.
You will want to download PayPal's IPN documentation and see what the variable is called and then add it to the IPN form code if you want to use it.

The Include file '../dataconn_inc.asp' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.
When you get an error like this it is because parent paths are disabled on the web server. This is a setting in the IIS console for your website.
If it is not enabled on you server you will have to ask your host to enable parent paths for your website.

Additional Information:
It is enabled by default on IIS4-IIS5 but in IIS6 it is disabled by default.
It is a minor security risk to have enabled and some hosts can be difficult about setting it.
Truth is, if your hosting ASP for customers you need to enable this setting if the customer requests it. Especially since 90% of the ASP applications out there require the setting.
Hosting companies should if they are serious about hosting ASP.
If they won't your only option is to go through all the code and convert the file includes to virtual includes.

The trouble with virtual includes is they are different depending on the layout of your website. (that's why web application developers generally don't use them)
Basically if you are in a sub domain the path for the virtual include is going to be different then if you were in the root.. etc etc
Also.. someone developing on a local machine would need totally different virtual includes on the development server than they would on the live server. Server Side includes are processed before ASP so there is no way to make them SMART, so to speak. Server Side includes are hardcoded and that's that.
In my opinion virtual includes are pretty useless for commercial web based applications... Since you don't know where the customers plan to install the apps.
And YES there are some tricks when designing the applications that make it less of an issue but they are not perfect solutions.
For example...
The virtual include below would work if the application or code was installed in the root

But if the application or code was installed in a directory called "somedirectory" the virtual include directive would need to look like this

I have never seen that message before but you are not suppose to run that page by itself regardless.. it is an include file not meant to run on its own , Thank you! With our current ad software (which we are transferring all data from to ASPBanner), we run banners for both paid advertisers, and for our own services. The banners relating to our own services, we would like to set to "non-expiring" so they appear all the time. , Ok i am having an issue with my other comp. I have spent ANOTHER 3 hours researching this one.... it WONT START THE IIS SERVICE!!!

I decided to use one of my client's hosts; which happens to be Network Solutions.
ANYWAY again-
I uploaded the whole thing there and they advised me they cannot do the explicit permissions on that _database folder. This is what they said: I would also would like to point out that ASP.NET applications and permissions do not extend to any other folder, other than the root, (/htdocs/), and the bin, (/htdocs/bin/) folders. Sub-directories and folder after bin and htdocs will not have ASP.NET permission (read or write).
If you could move or reconfigure your application to save all your code behind, include and dll files onto the root or bin folder, your application could work or possibly run as you would expect. Please have this done and retest your application. If and when you get a different problem or another error after doing so, please let us know, and we shall be happy to help you troubleshoot any problems that you may have.
There is a 'create database option' where i can create a database..create a dsnname, user name, password and have to specify the database file name. Once i do this i need to place the database file (aspprotectnet2002.mdb) in the /db folder within the root. I also tried this and made the appropriate change in the web.config but it STILL DOES NOT WORK. I AM PULLING MY HAIROUT WHY WONT ANYTHING WORK.
ALL THE FILES ON ON THE ROOT OF THE WEB HOST. I PULLED THE FILES OUT OF THE _DATABASE FOLDER AND DUMPED THEM ON THE ROOT. I CHANGED THAT ON THE WEB.CONFIG BUT ITS STILL LOOKING FOR SOME .XML FILE IN THAT _DATABASE FOLDER.
I'VE BEEN TRYING EVERYTHING AND IT SEEMS THAT I CANT USE THIS SOFTWARE FOR THE LIFE OF ME , I purchased two site licenses for ASP Protect a while back and am now trying to implement the application.
The connection to the database is fine, because it recognizes the user and displays the user name. However, there must be a problem with the permission because I get the DNS error information from the On Error in the check_user_inc.asp file.
I set the permissions on my PC as you indicated, both on the folder and the database file. But get the error and cannot access the database to view or modify. I also uploaded the file to my web server and set the permissions as well, but get the same problem.
You mention on your forum that it is not the code, but I don't understand if the code is correct and if it finds the database and the permissions have been set as you indicate, why doesn't the code work? , Your users with Internet Explorer may have received the "Page Expired" error. For ASPProtect users, it happens when the user is not logged on and tries to invoke the target page. check_user_inc.asp puts up the login form, and IE sees it as part of the target page. Any later attempt to Back up and reload from cache gives the errror.
My solution was, after successful login, instead of falling through the bottom of check_user_inc.asp and running the target page, I issue a re-direct to reload the target page. I also added META tags on the dynamic login form to say no-cache and expire now, so the re-direct really does reload the target page. This time, of course, check_user_inc.asp does not need to put up the login form, and the new target page in cache contains no form at all. So, IE will not give a Page Expired error when Backing up to it later.
Netscape, and I gather other browsers, do not behave the same way, so I limited the solution to IE. Also, the solution only works if the target page has no form of its own.
I'm uploading my customized version of check_user_inc.asp that contains this solution. (In it, I also used the Javascript focus method to place the "cursor" in the Username field when the login form loads.)

And you run your other version of ASPListiings in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.
You will have zero major changes to make to anything... other than what you did above..
But remember theyare the same app and share a lot of thing including sessions and application variables.. that is why if they are installed in the same domain each one needs its own application set in the IIS console so they run seperately of one another. cwilliams38312.5189814815, humm, I dont know.

Sorry, I am looking at your code on view_item.asp and I have noticed that you are calling 3 variable; start_date, end_date, and image_url that do not exist in the databases that you provided. Do I have the updated package for ASPVendor?

perhaps you have some issues with the sql database.

Has the software/code been tried out on a Mysql db and if so did it work?
The reason I ask is that my website is very busy (1.5million page views per month avg) and I'm considering converting the ASPBanner Access db to a Mysql one to help handle the traffic. For every page view one banner impression is being made which means that the Access db is under a bit of pressure
This afternoon there were 1012 simultanious users on the website and it froze with an error message displaying where the banner should have been (I didn't quite catch the message but something to do with the banner script timing out). I'm not sure if the Access db had something to do with it but it seemed too coincidental. Rebooting the server cured the problem but obviously kicked off the visistors as well
At present there's 668 online and no problems so I'll have to monitor it to see how it goes but if anyone can answer the Mysql question I'd be grateful

Dave , I just finished implementing the V7 product on our site and someone made mention that on the profile form where you are asked all your personal and user information there are 2 fields for passwords. The first field uses masking to hide the password as you type it, where the second shows it in clear text.
Now we know that the only people able to see the password are the user and the administrator, but it is playing mind games with my users as they think there is a problem with the application. I am not a programmer (however, learning ASP slowly now!) and am not sure if you did this on purpose or if it is a bug?
If it was done on purpose, can you advise how I can make the confirm password field masked as well to eliminate the unfounded questions!

I'm wondering if it is possible to customize the appearance of the
banner stats login page or the admin pages. I'd really like the
banner stats pages to look more like my own site or at least have my
logo on there or something like that so that my advertisers can see
that it is my site when checking their stats. However, I want to
do this without violating copyright, etc.
Can someone point me in the right direction or shut down my hope?

, I have seen that happen before though it usually just happens once and then after that it doesn;t show up. It's the asphttp component doing it. The ASPBanner system is not doing it. I would try using banner calling method such as the xml parser method. It's usually installed by default on 200 and 2003 servers. cwilliams38248.6400115741, Has anyone used the aspmail function to send and recieve emails from within your forms? users/email_password.asp , When a logged in user with specific group rights tries to look at a
page that has different group membership requirements the Login screen
comes up giving them an opportunity to login with different rights to
view the page. If you log in again with your current user name
the same login screen returns with the added words something to the
effect of "Access Denied, you dont have group rights to this page...".
The only way to get back to the previous page is to hit the back button
on the browser (there is not a back button on the denied page).
I would really rather not even present the "login again" screen to a
user but just have a custom page that says "access denied" of my own
design with a back button on it. Is this an option provided for
in ASPProtect currently? I did not see it in the admin section
settings tab. Is there a separate "login again" asp file that is
being used for this
group access deny message that I could alter, or does it always have to
be the login asp file?
Or would this require me modifying the check_user_inc.asp file around
line 356 to change this behavior (I don't want to screw up any other
stuff though...).

Oh, PS. just a quick check...it looks like if a user is an
"admin" he automatically gets to see all group pages regardless of
which set of group numbers are assigned in his user account...is that
right?
, Chris, that fixed it. Found 2-references to guestbook2 in the file show_messages_inc.asp located in the \guestbook\ directory.
Suggestion for future release. Create an option to email the admin when a message is posted. If this code already exists please advise.
