Christopher,

I have a follow-up to this question.

Is there a way to get the photo descriptions to save with actual spaces instead of the HTML space code all of the time?

I know that is does this if you hit Enter while typing a description, because it creates a 'br' tag. The main reason I am asking is because if the user does not enter a line break, the description is saved a single long string  and the pic_window.asp page is generated with one long description which makes the page very wide.

I tried to get around this by changing the description style in pic_window.asp to reflect a value like 50% or 200 pixels, and I have tried putting it into a table with a fixed width, but there is no effect.

Thanks!

, Great!  Sounds good Chris.  ,

here ya go

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo169-1.htm

, Not without changing a lot of code. If you didn't want encryption you really should have went with version 6. Encryption is a big new feature of Version 7 and it is inter-mixed with it the code in a lot of places.

As for doing the export and import you have to create a valid export file and then read through this very thread which explains how to import an export file with clear text passwords.

This is from the admin area regarding the text file format
The import/export file must be tab delimited with no text qualifiers. The 1st row containing field names and the following each being a new user. To create your own import file it must be in this exact format. To find out what field names and their order are simply create an export file using ASPProtect and take a look at it.

Generating an import file from your own database requires good knowlege and understanding of Access's Importing and Exporting functions. It is not something I cover as the process is different for everyone and not really very hard. ,

I'm using version 6 upgrade and recently some of the users complained that their passwords are no longer working. I was able to replicate the problem as I also experienced the same thing with my account.

Once I reset the password thru e-mail (Forgotten your password?), I am able to login but it fails later. This is weird as I have an identical copy of the code running flawlessly  on my test server.

The only change which I made to the original downloadable code is by adding password encryption using Base 64 encryption.

Any ideas what might be the problem

, not anything built into the app... it would be done with client side javascript if you wanted to look into it...  my client side javascript skills are ziltch, its in this thread.. you use the InStr function
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=17&KW= instr

Please use a little bit more descriptive subject the next time you post. "question" does not tell much to someone looking through threads.. and I like to keep things clean and organized in the forums

I edited it for you this time..

thx ,

maybe this is the issue...

do you realize that the descriptive name you give a group is not always going to be the same ID in the database ? The two are not related.

Perhaps what you named Group 1 is really group ID 3

You can tell for sure by generating protection code for group 1 and see what ID it tells you to use..

You also need to remember that you are testing this with different users and it is really easy to get confused so you need specifically log off using the log off page to ensure session info from the previous login doesn't show up and cause confusion when you log in with a different user... etc etc

in addition to logging off that way you may also want clear the session and application info via the code at the bottom of my article
http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/displaying-session-and-a pplication-variables.asp

and do that in between any user you log in as

,

I wonder if this could this be a FrontPage problem. I deleted the skins folder and re-ftp'd the original one that only contains default and Solid Black. I logged in and tried to change it back to default but it won't. I'm going to try making this folder a Frontpage subweb to see if that makes a difference.

Al

,

Thought that was already done....

Back to the drawing board...

,

really all depends on the sql connection string you are using and the names of your sql user you are using...

you really havent described very much..

I'd double check all of it.. something is wrong

cwilliams38325.8892824074,

no, there is not not.

If you wanted to to that you would have to add some code to check their album count in the database and not allow them to make a new album if they were at the limit.

cwilliams38433.0233680556,

You can mix and match banner calling methods all you want.
Try it and see what happens.

However, the only method that is going to work on non ".asp" pages is the javascript or the new iframe method listed in the support forums.

cwilliams38209.532349537,

glad it is working now

sorry ya had trouble.

cwilliams38418.6886342593,

Hi,

No, only ".asp" files can be protected.  It is the nature of Forms Based Authentication when using web based scripting technologies whether those scripts be ".cgi", ".asp", ".php", or whatever.

To protect entire direcotries at once you really need to run your own webserver and use NTFS permissions and user accounts..... or if something special is installed on the server there may be ways to do it as well. That usually isn't going to happen under a shared hosting account but there are special authentication products for such a thing that some hosting companies do purchase and allow their hosting customers to use.

Using aspprotect we do give working examples of ways to stream and partially protect images and downloads while a user is logged in to an ".asp" page.

Also, any ".htm" pages can simply be renamed to ".asp" if you need to protect them. Links to each other need to be updated of course because of the extension change.

In my opinion the truth of the matter is most high end sites use Forms Based Authentication with scripts. Not directory protection as it is fairly primitive/old school as well as sometimes being confusing for the users of the site because of how the login window from the server often gets stuck behind the browser.. etc etc

If you have a lot of pages in a site that you need to add protection code to then if can often be helpful to use a good Multiple file search and replace program to carefully add the protection code to the top of the source code of the pages. There are even multiple file search and replace programs that can rename extensions which can be helpful for large sites.

For images and graphics you want protect you have to do some work and set up and intelligent system for yourself.

Lastly whether you use https:// or not is no concern to ASPProtect as it works the same under https:// as it does under http://

,

The company that hosts our business web site has been impossible to deal with in assisting me in getting asp protect to work. Getting the rights set correctly took 6 days and then getting parent paths enabled has been impossible. There last response was simply this:

The includes were changed so that if your server does not support "parent paths"
' and the "../" that you could easily change a few files like this and make the
' includes virtual includes instead of file includes. We didnt make them virtual
' includes by default because depending on where in your site you put the application
' the virtual include path would be different. They are also much different on a local
' development server than they would be on your real server
'
' Here are some examples of what you might change these includes to
'
' If you put the aspprotect folder in the root of your domain at your server
' example: www.mydomain.com/aspprotect
' then you would probably use
'
' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/aspprotect/dataconn_inc.asp"
' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/aspprotect/config_inc.asp"
' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/aspprotect/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp"
'
' Or if you didnt use the aspprotect folder and just put the contents of it in the root
' of your domain
' then you would probably use
'
' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/dataconn_inc.asp"
' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/config_inc.asp"
' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp"
'
' It really all depends on what works for your situation
' If you want more information on server side includes read this article at PowerASP
'

I am assuming that they will not enable parent paths and I need to modify some code. I do not know asp. WHere do I modify the code for a server that will not enable parent paths?

Thanks,

D

, I posted this in the wrong forum. Sorry.

I have installed ASPProtect on a client's website and I have been notified that some of their customers have been unable to login to the protected pages.

On testing it seems that the issues seem to be related to how cookies are being stored by IE 6.

ASPProtect is being used to protect particular template files within a Content Mangement System. 90% of the time it is working fine but on the odd occassion particular cutomers are unabe to login.

After quite a bit of testing I have managed to find the scenario in which it starts to have problems and was hoping you may be able to provide a solution.

If a customer enters the wrong password, then reenters the correct username and password, they receive a message "template can not be found" from the Content Management System. This message is generated when a url is entered that contains a link to a template file that does not exist. In this case the template does exist. If I remove the ASPProtect code the page opens without error.

Everytime they re-enter the details they receive the same message.

If they close down the browser and then reenter the correct details in some instances the page will open correctly.

More often than not, they have to delete cookies and temporary files and  close the browser. This seems to fix the problem again for most users. For users who's web access is heavily cached by an internal server, even this does not work.

Have you come across this problem before and can you suggest a remedy.

If you can email me privately I can give you the URL and access codes.

Thanks,

Stuart ,

Hi, its just not something i can suppport as I do not support custmizations to the code epecially when dealing with an image component that is not supported by the application.

Sorry, its something you have to figure out. Bascially I would suggest looking at the existing asp image resizing code and using that as a guide.

Have you considered just buying a license of ASPImage and asking the host if they will install it after you purchase it. It sounds like it may save you a lot of time.

If you are ever looking for a good host for ASP. www.alentus.com is one of the best. There 9.95 plan gives you access to 3000.00 of commercial quaility asp components also which is nice.

,

People who have the option pack have a new feature called groups.

Groups are meant as a replacement for using the access levels as they are much more powerful. Support for pages protected using access levels is left in tact for backward compatiability for a customers older protection code.

A customer recently told me groups could not be used like access levels and that 8 access levels was not enough. This is how I explained that groups can do everything access levels can do.

Groups can honestly do everything access levels can do if you really think about it.
Using groups and protecting pages accordingly you could actually create a system that basically worked identically to the way the access levels works.

For example..

You make 8 groups and assign users to them accordingly

Protection code on page allows access to groups 1-8
The aspprotect system generates this code for you…

<% GROUPACCESS = "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->

In this case a user assigned to any one of those groups would have access..

Protection code on page allows access to groups 2-8
The aspprotect system generates this code for you…

<% GROUPACCESS = "2,3,4,5,6,7,8" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->

In this case a user assigned to any group between  2-8 would have access..

Protection code on page allows access to groups 3-8
The aspprotect system generates this code for you…

<% GROUPACCESS = "3,4,5,6,7,8" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->

In this case a user assigned to any group between  3-8 would have access..

cwilliams38114.800775463, I'm in the process of incorporating the ASP Gallery functionality within my current site design.

To begin this process I'm taking each page and I'm wrapping the ASP Gallery code with my site design [essentially I'm allocating this application the center of the page].  When I pull in the default.asp into the site the contents of this page make the entire page too wide.  I can't see where ASP Gallery assigns itself a width.

I'm working on this as a side project so I'm not terribly far along since I need to change all of the font assignments within the system to style assignments and it's a slow go.

Any insight would be a great help, there's a lot of re-write in what I'm doing and i don't want to affect functionality.

if you want to see the page and what happens -- http://www.iphotosite.com/galleryapp/default.asp

Don't go to www.iphotosite.com because I havent moved it to its own location yet.

,

Sounds to me like you got some bad databases or something. Or your trying to open a database with too old of a version of msaccess.. not sure

Everything is stored in one database. And yes there is more than just the users table.

Also,  removing the "temp" password should be a piece of cake.

Email me for a new copy of the download file ? Use the contact from on the cjwsoft site. Please tell me your order details as well so I know who you are.

,

I am attempting to have the page dedirect from the group, as some of my users are part of different and multiple groups (they are not structured in access levels, b/c they cannot be part of multiple levels(?)).  So I think I need to redirect by group.  I am having trouble having this work correctly.

,

Greetings:

I am doing the initial set-up and have run into a problem. Everything has gone smoothly up to and including pulling up the get_me_in.asp page. When I enter the "PasswordEncryptionKey", nothing happens. The page just sits there without doing anything and the browser says it's opening the page, but never does. I have tried entering the value with and without the double-quotes. The value is the correct one from the config_inc.asp file. I did a copy paste from the file twice to insure I transferred it correctly.

I am running Windows 2000 server.

What now?

Warren

,

No luck...this is the message

Return To Import / Export Screen.

Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0113'

Script timed out

The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools.

, Well, you cant have a login box on the home page when using ASPProtect.NET.. there is no way to make that work. I tried all day to come up with something and it is not going to happen. I suggest you make a login button and link it directly to the protected page you want them to start on. The redirect or link them whereever from there. Either that or write your own forms based authentication solution that works exactly the way you want it to or edit the code accordingly since you have the source.  It is not a feature we advertise for the product regardless. It works the way it works. ,

That was wrong of me but not what I meant. It seems as soon as I purchase something like this it doesn't work right and it can't be altered to work with what I have. The support ends up sucking or being none. Listen I’ve gone thru you're product and it's wonderful and does exactly what you say it does so that's a relief. Sorry about my ignorance with .NET but I’m from an ASP world and it's a lot different. You can see what I’m trying to protect here http://www.hotmixxent.com:8087/default.aspx. The final site after testing will be http://mxais.sfmx.org/default.aspx. Again thanks for the support on Christmas Sunday, that’s defiantly beyond the call and I appreciate it a lot.

, I had some issues with passwords not working. I cleared them up by going to the affected user and typing in the desired password manually on the edit screen. Worked like a champ every time, and I haven't had to do that for some time now. , Thanks Chris,

as I look at your installation more I notice that you are using MSSQl as the database type.

chances are that is the source of these problems. Fields in the sql database are most likely not all set correctly

it is very important that the sql tables and fields are set up exactly as described and that the sql script we provide runs without error

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo160-1.htm

if you create the sql database other than the way we tell you to or the sql script doesn't do its job setting all the field types/constraints/primary keys/etc..... for some reason .. then weird things like this can happen

at this time this is my best guess as to what is going on

I would examing the sql script we provide and compare the information set in it for each field and table to your existing SQL database to see if everything got set correctly.. I would start by checking these fields 1st of all as they are very important.... (username,password,expiration_date,admin,active)

in the meantime testing the ASPProtect system with an Access database will prove that all the ASP code is working as it is supposed to if you are interested in doing that

,

Nope,

No changes to any scripts - just a response.write added to Email_Password.asp to print out the SQL.

Sure - here's the address.

P.S.  E-mail address to look for is serena_5@hotmail.com

,

did you fix it because I see all the pictures just fine ?

http://mcintoshcounty.org/real_estate/view_item.asp?Ad_ID=1

,

Right,  I've done that.  My concern is that it will time out again while I'm trying to import the file.

The import/export manager does not show up under the users tab when I log in normally.  I have to pull up the page in frontpage and then preview it a browser to get it to show.

, good news.. like I said it is probably becuase aol blocks emails sent from IP's with no MX record in the dns system ,

Hi Chris,

The password is HANNAH.  If you're into trouble shooting mode and would like the key, I can send it to you.  If not, no big deal, I've email the guy a new password.  We'll see how many rounds it takes him to get it right.

Thanks,
Mick

, now. I just went to that url and this is the error I see which shows me there is a character in the source code that shouldnt be there which is causing the page to halt.

Looks like a "carrot".

if i give u the username/pw can you set this up on the network solutions host and ask them to set whatever permissions are needed?

cant do it anymore....

,

Access Database Password

By default all of the Access Databases we give out have a default password of "temp"

The Default username that and Access database uses is "Admin" but you should not be concerned with that except in your connection strings.

The default password for the Access Database can only be changed using Microsoft Access to do so. If you have security concerns it would make sense to change the password. The help system built into Microsoft Access best explains how to do that.

cwilliams38403.6820833333,

you do not run "check_user_inc.asp" by itself

Pages you protect include that file at the top.. when they someone goes  to a protected page if not logged in a user then sees a login prompt..

after loggin in they see that same page as normal

its an automated process..

now, that being said if you really want to you a specify a page to be redirected to after the 1st login when you edit a users info. You can also redirect anyone anywhere like using a simple ASP redirect statement in your code.

Personally I feel that redirecting people all over the place is poor site design. ASP is all about dynamic code and ASPProtect is all about dynamically tailoring pages to the current logged in users... so why redirect people all over the place.. it justs complicates things because you still need to password protect the places you send them to.... which means twice the work and twice the confusion.

Also, here is a Version 6 thread about redirecting manually that still applies to version 7.

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo17-1.htm

,

I had not rebooted after installing the Jet driver updates, so I tried that and the asptest page worked fine, and said that all the tests were successful and that the data connection was setup correctly. I then installed aspprotect again, but with the same results. I cannot log-in from the get_me_in.asp page. It still says that it is opening the page, but does not respons for an indefinite period. The asptest page is in the same directory.

I have looked for alternate databases for this product on your site, but I cannot seem to find them.

,

I'll send you something..
