You edit the web.config file that came with ASPProtect.NET.

You find this tag

  <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" />

you change it to this

  <customErrors mode="Off" />

If you have a different web.config file in your root I suggest you make sure the tag is set to off there as well for troubleshooting sake

If done correctly you will get a detailed error
It's basic low level ASP.NET stuff really and does not have anything specific to do with ASPProtect.NET.

You also need to make sure your web is set up correctly for ASP.NET and that the correct web.config's are firing..etc etc

User Registration

The "users" folder allows users to sign themselves up and edit there accounts as well as retrieve lost passwords..

In the settings tab of the ASPProtect admin area there are options for which fields are used and which are mandatory when a user signs up. The only validation the system performs by default is checking for mandatory status. If you want to add more validation so reduce the chances of input errors that is up to you.

You can add additional server side validation by doing server side checks on the save pages... you can also make the field sizes larger in the database if you think you need to. You'll need to be good with ASP to do this.

Always backup your files before making changes to them so that you can revert back to a working copy if you mess something up.

all I can say is try other things...  like

mail.yoursite.com

or

smtp.yoursite.com

etc etc etc

replacing yoursite with the name of your domain of course


the settings for sending email via ASP are no different then the settings you would use in outlook or something... except sometimes on the server level localhost works as the email server because they set it up to allow that

and of course those 3rd party emailing components need to actually be installed on the server

I added a Session Variable for "Counter". Then wrote an If statement around that. When the user logs on for the first time they see a window pop, after that the normal start page.

how you connecting... lets see the connection string...

could be permissions related too.. if they are not set correctly
(always give them to the folder, never just the mdb file)

you may want to download some of the different versions of the access database from the support area and try connecting to them as you may have older odbc drivers on the server

You may also want to try to get ASPTest from our website working before you go any further

The main root of your web site needs a "aspnet_client" folder for .NET apps like ASPProtect.NET to run.

If this isnt quite right one of two things can happen.

1.) You'll get a pop-up error like this.
'Unable to find script library WebUIValidation.js'

2.) The ASPProtect login screen will come up but just not let you log in.

This folder only goes in the root. Not in subfolders and subwebs.

If you dont have this folder in the root of your web.

If the app is installed on a hosted server you'll need to ask them to do that for you.

You can also try copying a the folder from your own machine after creating it the way the article above says.

I am not sure if copying it in is as good as having created by the server as I haven't had time to really test all of that but it should work. Ultimately all this does is put some files .net needs in the web.

The Double DIM needs to be removed for this code to work properly.

Different Versions of the Access Database

Below is a zip file with many alternate versions of the Access Database provided to help with installation and general usage.

ASPProtect.mdb is saved as an Access97 database (password "temp")
ASPProtect_access2000.mdb is saved as and Access 2000 database (password "temp")
ASPProtect_access2000.mdb is saved as and Access 2002-2003 database (password "temp")
ASPProtect_access2002_no_password.mdb is saved as and Access 2002-2003 database with no password set on it

Try to use the newest version as server odbc drivers sometimes have to use the newest version for everything to work correctly. No password version is provided because sometimes there are issues connecting to a database with a password set on it.

Default username for access databases is of course "admin" but you really dont use that except in the data connection information.

I have a solution for asp already but thanks anyway. Is there a good book or other learning tool I can purchase that you might know about? I would know where to start about how create a timed subscription in .NET.

one more question.

To use the bulk upload feature of aspuload, do I just need to add another upload section to the same upload page, that will allow more than one file to be selected then tell it to put the files in as Photo 1, 2, 3 etc.? I am a rookie at ASP but I think this is possible and with a little research I should be able to get it going.

Good Morning - I getting errors in my system log that says "404 file not found" for a number of files - Here are a few examples:

I dont know about your error on line 6 when uploading..

as far as the manaully edited import file not working I would really need to see it. There has to be somethin wrong with it's format.

I really need more information and possibly acess to the system to do some troubleshooting...

This is anot a feature anyone has ever had an issue like this with.

After I had you install ASPProtect I added the ASP protecting code to the top of my home page:

Then I made my index.html page my login page buy using the script "Login form on a non protected page" on that I changed <form method="POST" action="memberarea.asp"> to <form method="POST" action="home.html">. 

When I try to log on to that page I get en error page HTTP Error 405 - The HTTP verb used to access this page is not allowed. Internet Information Services (IIS). I checked with my hosting company GoDaddy.com and they informed me that due to the fact that they do not have ASPProtect instaled on there systems they can not support it.  In recent conversations you told me that you have customers that do use godaddy and you products. 

Can you please tell me what I can do to get this working?

OK, I just spent like an hour in your site.. I almost gave up

1st off... I don't know what FTP Program/Settings or what OS you are using but all the ASP Protect Files had been reformatted in a odd way which was causing some issues and the database also had problems. Your somehow introducing all sorts of UNIX line breaks to all the files and the database was actually missing some crucial parts of itself and was corrupted. So I had to update everything which means a new database. I have never seen anything like it but I fixed it all. Its something you are doing but I do not know what. Maybe your unzipping method again ?


So to get back into the admin area...

Now, the reason  the albums were not showing is because you are using the ole connection string which causes problems like that. However because you host has like the worst setup ever with that network path crap for the site that was the only connection string that would work for some reason.

I highly suggest a new host with a proper setup for running ASP. www.alentus.com

Access Databases are not meant to be connected to via a network path.

Anyway, I rewrote some of the code because of the ole connection and got the albums showing up for you.. who knows what other problems that OLE connection may bring up in the future.. for now things I tested seem ok.

As for your broken image in the your header/footer...  You cant link to images and links using virtual pathing in those includes because the files are called from different directories and will work in some and not others

so when your in the root you see the image, when in a different folder you see a broken image

I don’t know what your hosting company will say because it is an iffy topic and those that understand it have a hard time explaining it to someone who doesn't. Also usually the hosting company doesn't have a clue except they heard it was a security risk.

really all depends on the sql connection string you are using and the names of your sql user you are using...

you really havent described very much..

Is there a way to upload photos to individual user directories? I don't want all the picture files in a single directory.

This is an Expirmental MOD for ASPBanner Version 7.3 Only
Do not use it on other versions....

It encodes CODE Banner information before saving it into the application variables that handle banner rotation. It then decodes that information before displaying them on your web pages.

The reason for this is SOME very complex javascript does not always save correctly into the application variables that rotate banners (even when not using the JavaScript Method to display the banners)

This way the javascript or whatever you entered comes out on your web page exactly as you entered it and runs correctly.. but there is little more processing going on to handle the encoding and decoding. But its probably nothing to worry about and won't effect performance at all.

Unless your having a problem don't use this mod. It is not officially supported in any way.

The application automatically generates all the code for you for each method of calling banners. It does this on the zones screen.

If you are using flash it also possible that the actualy flash file is what is causing things to slow up.

ASPProtect v7.x has a new feature called groups.

Groups are meant as a replacement for using the access levels as they are much more powerful. Support for pages protected using access levels is left in tact for backward compatiability for a customer that was using them.

A customer recently told me groups could not be used like access levels and that 8 access levels was not enough. This is how I explained that groups can do everything access levels can do.



Groups can honestly do everything access levels can do if you really think about it.
Using groups and protecting pages accordingly you could actually create a system that basically worked identically to the way the access levels works.

For example..

You make 8 groups and assign users to them accordingly

Protection code on page allows access to groups 1-8
The aspprotect system generates this code for you…

I believe what happened is we received the older copy of ASP Banner iwht our purchase of ASP Protect and were notified of a free update to download aspbanner_unlimited_v8.2_feb_26_2005.zip which we did, and that's the one i recently put on our site.

  Sounds from your reply that something technical is going on to the point where I will have to hire one of our Web consutants to dissect for us.  We'll try again and track our issues and send another request for information when we can show you a specific example of what is happening.  I'll be in touch.

Access Database Password

By default all of the Access Databases we give out have a default password of "temp"

The Default username that and Access database uses is "Admin" but you should not be concerned with that except in your connection strings.

The default password for the Access Database can only be changed using Microsoft Access to do so. If you have security concerns it would make sense to change the password. The help system built into Microsoft Access best explains how to do that.

Can we get access to the source project files for ASPProtect.net since we'd like to put in some of our own branding on the pages and not everything can be done in HTML.
