ok.
sorry then..
I just had a series of fraudulant orders this past week including today and the whole thing has me on edge. (foreign people getting my code for free and doing who knows what with it) When you mentioned calling the cc company it pushed all the right buttons.
Merry Christmas, Hi,
First and foremost, a great product. I downloaded it last night and it took little effort to get it up and running
.....now a little question...
Has the software/code been tried out on a Mysql db and if so did it work?
The reason I ask is that my website is very busy (1.5million page views per month avg) and I'm considering converting the ASPBanner Access db to a Mysql one to help handle the traffic. For every page view one banner impression is being made which means that the Access db is under a bit of pressure
This afternoon there were 1012 simultanious users on the website and it froze with an error message displaying where the banner should have been (I didn't quite catch the message but something to do with the banner script timing out). I'm not sure if the Access db had something to do with it but it seemed too coincidental. Rebooting the server cured the problem but obviously kicked off the visistors as well At present there's 668 online and no problems so I'll have to monitor it to see how it goes but if anyone can answer the Mysql question I'd be grateful
Thanks,
Dave ,
I sent you a PM, I think I have successfully integrated Paypal but seem to have a slight
issue. Once a person has entered the Paypal site but cancels their
order, the ad is still placed on the site. The optimal way for my site
to work would be to cancel the ad once the Paypal process has been
cancelled. Any help would be great.
Thanks
, Great suggestion, routing the banner click through an intermediate page before the destination. We use Deepmetrix LiveSTATS.xsp V7 and I should be able to configure a filter to capture the stats of the intermediate page.
Thanks for the help! Lance , Access to some sections of the forums must be requested. Please Click on the following link and read all of it carefully.

cwilliams38291.6121296296, I really need more information..
SQL or Access database ? If Access are you using the newest version of the .mdb file
Is this a new item ?
Show me your connection string ?
perhaps the url to the site as well so I can look around?
things like that that will help me troubleshoot.
If any info is sensative send me a PM..
, ya it should have uploaded that no problem...
what about something blocking the use of the filesystem object and causing these timeouts ?
Your not running anything like Norton Script Blocker are you ? Its part of Norton Antivirus or Internet Security and causes all sorts of problems with ASP when it is running on a server. Especailly when using the filesystem object to deal with text files and when uploading via pure asp.
It could be the cause of the all these problems or something like it ?
It will cause a timeout like your getting and give no real reason why.
More info on that. http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2180, I would like to delete the SQL tables and set them up from scratch using enterprise manager and sql query manager and see what happens
If that is ok with you let me know.
Something is wrong like I said... almost seems like the database is caching old password info from the field., How to set a new users expiration date.
You'll need to edit the "users/add_new_account.asp" with a text editor.
Find this section..
<% CmdAddUser.Fields("ValidateEmailCode") = ValidateEmailCode CmdAddUser.Fields("Access_Level") = "4" ' PUT YOUR CODE HERE CmdAdduser.Update ID = CmdAdduser("ID") CmdAdduser.Close Set CmdAdduser = Nothing ConnPasswords.Close Set ConnPasswords = Nothing %>
You'll want to add code like this right between the Acccess_Level and Updates section
CmdAddUser.Fields("Expiration_Date") = Date + 60
That will give take todays date and add 60 days to it. You can of course do whatever you want here.
Actually, any database value for the user can be set during registration.
You can also change the default Access_Level to whatever you like.
cwilliams38088.4986689815, If it stopped working it has nothing to do with the ASP code. YIf could have stopped for any number of reasons as hosts often change email server requirements and info. You need to go over the email settings. Of course make sure you and the person you are sending to have valid email addresses and try different methods/settings until you get emailing to work again.
Testing it by sending emails off from the users screen.. in each email type in what you are trying at that time so you know what worked if emails make it through. Also, be sure to check junk filters when testing to make sure the emails are not being put in any of those.
That's what I would do. CDOSYS is always your best bet for sending emails as it has so many options and all new server support it. , ummm.. ok.. Then this doesnt make sense. On two out of the three machines I have in house here, the images do not show up. They only show up on the server machine. I am using the constant url on all three machines. www.rfamilystuff.com Does it show up on your?
, I am getting closer.
This error actually does not have anything to do with the forgotten password feature or your database.
It has to do with the settings you chose for emailing.
it relates to aspmail and it not liking the remotehost you used, or something like that.... etc etc , Yeah, its a win2k server.
Im up and running now (my guess is ASP wasnt installed, but he did not say), but am not having luck with any of the email. I contacted my host to see what is available and have yet to hear back. Do you generally recommend people to run CDOSYS?
Ive been reading through the docs, and the users and protection seems to be pretty straightforward. Nice!
The only other real question I have (and cant find in the docs) is how to remove the self registration option all togehter. My client wants to add its users manually, and not give the option for them to sign up themselves. Do I just find any remove any code that references it? , Hi all
User activity screen shows history of logged-in users.
Is it possible to view only those users that are currently logged in ? not the all users that have logged in previously
thanks in advance
, Is there an easy way to make this work with reoccurring a monthly or yearly subscription? , Ok...thanks., I have ASPPhotoGallery installed. Everything has been working great for some time. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, I am not getting the "Hits" incremented when a user opens an album. It works when an administrator is logged on. Does not for any anonymous users. Everything else seems to work fine. Again, this used to work. Any ideas. , ASPProtect version 6 does not officially support any sort of redirection or is it a feature.
You can however do redirection after login with some basic ASP if-else statements and ASP redirects. Basically you check the session variables after successful login and send users where based on that info. You of course also need to protect any pages you send users to and make sure any people that aren't supposed to go there do not go there directly and bypass your security.
I highly frown on Redirecting during login (In my opinion it is poor site design and it defeats the purpose of dynamic web pages, there is seldom a good reason to even need to do it if you design your site well) but you can check out this thread which should give you lots of good information.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=17&KW= redirect, sure, there are reasons AOL would block the email.. it might think it is spam or it might not like the fact that fact that a cdonts generated email has no MX records because it can not..
for more on MX records read my CDOSYS article http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/sending_email_cdosys.asp
as far as the emails not being sent because notifications are off. I was not aware of that and will try to look into it.. Version 6 is no longer worked on but if I can find the time I will check that out
,
Chris,
I'm setting up the subscription locally so I can't test it out until I
put the site live. I have a question in how the paypal
subscription works.
1. What is telling paypal to return the info to the ipn.asp page for
processing? Is that something I have to set up in my paypal
account?
2. I'd like to use Paypal's
auto return. I assume the return page would be ipn.asp?
Would I just need to add a redirect to the login page at the end
of the appropriate txn_type if/then statement?
Thanks,
Michelle
P.S. I did finish the integration of the webwizforum with
ASPProtect. Thanks for the great headstart on that! Will be
putting everything live in a couple weeks.
, Hello,
In that version is is not easy to change the values as they were not intended to be edited. You would have to dig through quite a lot of code as those values are hardcoded in quite a few pages. Probably at least 10 or more.
In the pro version there are variables you can change that very easily as that is intended to be easily changed in that version. , Say, is it possible to get something to whack every totally inactive account? Preferably joke ones that nobody every actually logged on with.
I'd want to have it delete the account if the following conditions were met:
1. Active = NO 2. Counter < 1 or is a null value 3. Access <1 or is a null value (some people may have logged on and let their accounts expire, so they may want to log back in again with the same info)
I suppose an advanced version of a mass delete tool would allow the admin to select different parameters, but there would DEFINITELY need to be a "Are you sure? REALLY REALLY SURE???" step in there to make sure you didn't toast your database without being stupid twice in a row.
If I knew ASP code, I'd write it myself. I don't, so I make a pitch for a new feature... cwilliams38456.0980671296, Additional Information.
A set of these variables get created for every user that logs in to your site. For performance and memory conservation reasons some of them can be turned off and are optional.
If you look in the "check_user_inc.asp" file or the "check_admin_inc.asp" file you will see a section of code like this
' Start of optional session variables to be set ' Recommended that you remark out any of the session variables below that you don't really need to use ' This will save a lot of server resource because every user logged in has a set of these ' I added some code here to not create these if they are empty If CmdCheckUser("First_Name") <> "" Then Session("First_Name") = CmdCheckUser("First_Name") If CmdCheckUser("Last_Name") <> "" Then Session("Last_Name") = CmdCheckUser("Last_Name") If CmdCheckUser("Company_Name") <> "" Then Session("Company_Name") = CmdCheckUser("Company_Name") If CmdCheckUser("Email") <> "" Then Session("Email") = CmdCheckUser("Email") If CmdCheckUser("Address") <> "" Then Session("Address") = CmdCheckUser("Address") If CmdCheckUser("City") <> "" Then Session("City") = CmdCheckUser("City") If CmdCheckUser("State_Province") <> "" Then Session("State_Province") = CmdCheckUser("State_Province") If CmdCheckUser("Zipcode_Postal_Code") <> "" Then Session("Zipcode_Postal_Code") = CmdCheckUser("Zipcode_Postal_Code") If CmdCheckUser("Phone") <> "" Then Session("Phone") = CmdCheckUser("Phone") If CmdCheckUser("Custom1") <> "" Then Session("Custom1") = CmdCheckUser("Custom1") If CmdCheckUser("Custom2") <> "" Then Session("Custom2") = CmdCheckUser("Custom2") If CmdCheckUser("Custom3") <> "" Then Session("Custom3") = CmdCheckUser("Custom3") If CmdCheckUser("Custom4") <> "" Then Session("Custom4") = CmdCheckUser("Custom4") If CmdCheckUser("Custom5") <> "" Then Session("Custom5") = CmdCheckUser("Custom5") If CmdCheckUser("Custom6") <> "" Then Session("Custom6") = CmdCheckUser("Custom6") ' End of optional session variables to be set
If you do not need a particular variable to be set as a session variable simply comment that line out with single quote.
If you have an extremely busy site with a lot of users this is a good idea. If not, you probably don't need to bother doing this. I added some code in there so they will not be created if they are empty and that alone helps out a lot. cwilliams38419.5459606481, no, you cannot unless you plan to write a lot of custom code.
That is why the option pack has groups which eliminate the need to use access levels because groups can do everything access levels can and more.
There is an article here regarding that. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=32& PN=1
cwilliams38303.5555439815, I'm trying to use CDOSYS.
It seems to work fine on the web page, however the mail never gets delivered.
I can see my messages sitting in c:\inetpub\mailroot\pickup but they never leave it.
I found another folder after doing a search for "pickup".... it is: d:\program files\Exchsrvr\Mailroot\vsi 1\PickUp If I paste the files into there, they get delivered.
How can I get the email to be delivered without doing the cut and paste?
I've tried it both with and without authorization.
I am running a Windows 2000 server with Exchange 2000.
Thanks. , You are NEVER supposed to move any files, especially that one. Of course that is going to break a lot of things.
Please put it back the way it was.
You change the path of the include file when you call it, never the location of the include file., Kurt,
There really is no default width in general.
The thing to remember is that the default.asp page includes a lot of different pages.. and some of those pages also include pages.
Now all of this gets wrapped by the header and footer include files so in a sense what you do there can effect everything inside to a certain degree.
Now there are some widths set here and there for different tables and what not on certain pages, but its really the kind of situation where you just have to dig around in the code and experiment until you eventualy find what you are looking for and get the desired result.
I'd love to tell you there is easy way to just set a width, but it is not that simple.
Maybe someday it will be. Just not in the current version.
CJW , Upgrade from V6 to v7.x with an MSACCESS DATABASE
1st of all, backup your existing ASPProtect files and database before performing this upgrade. Please be really careful while performing this upgrade. Version 7.x is a highly advanced application compared to any previous versions. CJWSoft under no circumstances is responsible if you lose information or have website downtime.
BOTTOM LINE: (PERFORM THIS UPGRADE AT YOUR OWN RISK)
To do this upgrade you're going to need to have the Microsoft Access Application. To work with an Access .mdb file it can not be newer than the version of Microsoft Access you are running.
That being said, on with the upgrade..
Open you're existing Acccess Database up in Microsoft Access.. You should see this something like this.

By right clicking on then choosing rename Rename "Users" to "ASPP_Users" Rename "Groups" to "ASPP_Groups"
If you do not have a "Groups" table do not worry about it right now.
Now right click and DELETE the Config Table. Yes, delete it..
You should now see this. (with or without the "Groups" table)

Now, right click on "ASPP_Users" and go into design view. It should look like this.

Rename the "Password" field to "Old_Password" Be sure to spell it perfectly using the Underscore It will look like this.

Now scroll down to the bottom a bit It should look like this.

Now..
If you have a "Groups" Field... leave it alone If you do not have a "Groups" Field add one and make it a memo field.
Now, we are going to add a few more new fields.
Add a field called "Redirection_URL" make it a "text" field with 150 field size Add a field called "PayPal_Subscriber_ID" make it a "text" field with 100 field size Add a field called "Newsletter" and make it a yes/no field Add a field called "Password" and make it a "text" field with 100 field size
It should now look like this. (you do not need to worry about the field descriptions.. that part is optional and only seen when working on the database)

Now close that window and save the changes..
Your now going to open up another Access Database while still leaving the one you have on your screen open. You going to open up one of the new databases that came with v7.x. This database has some info we are simply going to copy and paste.
You'll want to open it and put it side by side on your desktop like so. (the old database is on the left.. the new one is on the right)

Now, for the fun part.
On the new database to the right.. right click on the "ASPP_Config" table and pick "Copy"
Then move your mouse over to the old database on the left. Right click in the open white area and click "paste"
It will ask you for a database name. Type in "ASPP_Config" Leave "Structure and Data" checked and hit OK
Your old database on the left should now have a nice new "ASPP_Config" table.
OK, now for the "ASPP_Groups" table
If you already have a "ASPP_Groups" table in your old database you are done.
If you do not have one your going to copy and paste the table from the New Database to your old database just like we just did with the "ASPP_config" table.
Your old database should now look like this.

Now, you are done upgrading your database from within Microsoft Access.
The existing passwords still have to be encrytped and moved from the "Old_Password" to the "Password" field
To that we have a special page we run in the application that will take care of that.
So, for now... go install the application, but using the database we just created. Follow these instructions for the most part... http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=181& ; ;PN=1
When you get to the part where you finally get into the admin area and need to make an admin account you will notice that your existing user database is there but none of the users have passwords if you look at them in the edit screen.
That is normal. Simply do what the instructions say and create and admin account using a username that does not exist..
Then log off... then back in as that new admin account. If that works you are ready to convert the passwords.
This part is very easy.
You want to run a special page via the browser.
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/convert_to_encrypted.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
Once you get the page running you will see a login prompt and one form field just like before with the "get_me_in.asp" page
You will need to paste the "PasswordEncryptionKey" value that you used in the "config_inc.asp" file in the form field and hit enter.
If all goes well you will see a page telling you to click here to encrypt the passwords and copy them over.
So do what it says... dont click more than once and wait.
Eventually it should say it is finished. So go log in to the admin area of the system using the new admin account.
Now edit some users but dont save... you want to see if the passwords are showing up. If they are the conversion worked. If you see nothing or a garbled mess it did not work and you made a mistake during this whole process.
If things went well backup and delete the conversion file below.
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/convert_to_encrypted.asp
You do not need it anymore.
Once you are positive every thing is running smoothly and everyone's passwords are ok you can go in and delete the "Old_Password" field as well.
If things didnt go well.. try again from scratch and go slowly. If they still dont go well get ahold of us for help.
We are here to help, but if you really want us to we can be hired to do the conversion. , recent activity infomation is temporary and mantains itself per application start up.. when the web application restarts for whatever reason the info is reset
a reboot, an iisreset on the server, application pool restarts, etc etc this is done because if that info was saved in the database your database would get huge real quick
logfiles however do not do that and are permanent , If you run asplistings auto in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.
And you run your other version of ASPListiings in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.
You will have zero major changes to make to anything... other than what you did above..
But remember theyare the same app and share a lot of thing including sessions and application variables.. that is why if they are installed in the same domain each one needs its own application set in the IIS console so they run seperately of one another. cwilliams38312.5189814815, The login page sends the user to redirect.asp (which is as follows)
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% If InStr(Session("Groups"),"*1*") Then Response.Redirect("gp01.asp") End If %>
<% If InStr(Session("Groups"),"*2*") Then Response.Redirect("gp02.asp") End If %>
I am not being redirected to gp02.asp if I am a member of group2. Also, we wish users who are part of group 2 and 3 to go to a different page (ie. gp2-3.asp)
Thanks in advance.
, well, like I said.. I am leaving in about 5 minutes for the wedding.
If you put this up on a live server that I can connect to I will look at it tommoro for you. I have told you everything I could possibly tell you so I dont think your going to figure it out based on the things you have told me so far.
Only other thing I can think of is make sure your not running anything goofy on that server 2003 box. Norton Antivirus script blocking... various ad blockers.. anti spyware applications... etc etc... They can cause problems as well. , I have connected to countless DB's using my own applications written in dreamweaver and have tested them on my own server and also my web facing one. BUT this seems to be different. no matter what I try I still get this error.
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x440 Thread 0x6b0 DBC 0x1f995bc Jet'.
On both a windows 2000 server and also a windows 2003 server. Also using both DSN and DSN less connection and oledb.
Any help would be greatly apprectiated.
Thanks , Yes, as long as each installation is in in it's own web site. (or at least in it's own application in IIS) Meaning you could have 5 directories in your site each with the app installed as long as each directory got set as an application in IIS.
Remember, a license must purchased for each running install except for development reasons on local machines. cwilliams38400.5162384259, One problem that is appearing is that in the admin section, in the users.aspx page, only one user is showing up when there are in fact 9 users. Also, when I click the edit user or email icon, the page does not go to the edit screen, it remains on the same page.
Also, I’ve been trying to modify the code to adapt it for our application -- by removing fields that we do not need such as address, city, state, phone, but I am having trouble getting visual studio to compile. It could be due to the fact that the rest of the project is in C#. Or it could be due to some other factor in ASP Protect. , This user is talking about preparing more than 100 pics at a time for an album that already exists and doing it using linux.
I asked the user to post the code here because I think it is interesting and it may help someone who is working with the app.
This article is not for everyone for a few reasons.
1.) The application can already mass import pics on it's own. It does 100 pics pretty quickly on a decent server. The built in method also resizes pictures and make low res thumbnails should your server support a supported ASP image resizing component. The method above simply rename pictures in a folder so the application will see them as part of an album.
2.) We don't support or recommend that anyone sets the application to use more than 100 pics per album. It is just not tuned for that and there will be issues. Please dont ask me what they are as it is complicated and I am not sure/dont remember what they all are.
3.) Your going to have to be familiar with linux to use the code shown above. cwilliams38210.5694444444, I am not sure totally understand your question. I need you to explain it differently.
Any ".asp" page that is protected is going to automatically prompt them for a login box or log them in automatically depending on if they set that option.. In the end returning them to that same page.
So, it really all takes care of itself for the most part.. It doesn't even matter if the bookmark a protected page deep in your site. The system is smart enough to keep them at that page as well as handle their access.
Now of course if they are at an unprotected page of your site and navigate to a protected page they get a loin prompt or are allowed in if they already logged in...
Also.. when you say unprotected page ? do you mean ".htm" or ".asp" cwilliams38298.6571759259, thats a new one... I need some sort of error to go on..
No error ever ? It must eventually show something ? , Am very interesting in purchasing ASPProtect, but am curious as to whether anyone has had success/failure with Network Solutions "standard windows hosting" solution? Thought I would ask just in case someone has had recent experience. thx, ,
