if that account isnt there thats normal because if it doesn't have any permissions for that folder so it wouldnt be listed

you simply dig into the menus a liitle deaper and find it then add it.

cwilliams38417.6984606481,

Gotcha.

Can you set an expiration date on a subscription?

Thanks,

Jess

,

Hi Chris

Unfortunately the bl**dy server was down and unavailable for 17 hrs so I couldnt even get to see what the settings were!

It is on, the relevant users appear to have all rights for the data/tempstats folder.

I'm guessing you're going to suggest turning it off and see if the problem still appears.

Colin

, at some point I can do  the users in mass correct using the import feature in aspprotect right?, One of my users is looking to do mass updates (multiple records). He wants to be able to update the "Expiration Date" for a group of users who work for the same company. , no, but in the standard version it probably will not run so great with more than 75 or so.

The unlimited version can handle pretty much whatever.,

thanks.. it was not taken as a complaint.
I just wanted to explain

When you said you tried using the web version of sql manager. Did you use the microsoft one I link to here "just curious"

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo127-1.htm

, I will give you permission to move it since you asked.,

I would like to create a login form on the home page which will not be password protected to the site for members so that they can login right from the home page and not a password protected page like many sites have. And every portal I have seen.

Plus the login form looks really pretty and proffesional on the home page   ...

I can't find anything in the documentation that says how to do this or if it's even possible. Everything I have found says to password protect a page and then direct them there which isn't what I would like to do.

Here is the code of the login page which is an asp include file on the main page:

<html>

Does anybody know what values I would put in the form to send the correct login to AspProtect. And, if I would have to add any extra includes or code to it.

TIA

, SQL server hotel ehh ? Humm that sounds bad whatever that is ?

Is that a real term or just something you named it cause they have like a zillion people using that SQL server?  I have never heard of that name ?,

Can you do a better price deal for that version in place of the one I've just purchased ie for a single licence rather than unlimited Christopher?

Or failing that can you give me an idea of how many changes you had to make to convert 7.3 to work with Mysql?

Regards,

Dave

,

Our knowledge base which is hosted at a remote location is protected by ASPProtect Full Version 6. I would like to allow our employee to access the knowledge base from within our internal network unchallenged. Is there a way which I can modify the code "check_user_inc.asp" to allow any one coming from say 10.1.X.X to access the site unchallenged?

Thanks,

Mo

,

I am getting the same error looking at the previous post, I looked in settings and my Registration-URL is pointing at the correct location.

Is there any other thoughts on this issue

Thank you!

,

dsn-less is the way to go..
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo9-2.htm

you also need to use newer versions of the database as the odbc drivers on the server are sometimes very new and no longer work with access 97 databases

,

whether you use SSL or not really does not effect aspprotect in any way

I say, the smart thing to do there is too not start them off at a http:// url

one way to do it is put a simple ASP redirect on that default page and send them to an SSL version of the page instead...

http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/redirects.asp

another way would be not start them off on a protected page right off the bat and offer links to the the protected area...

in my opinion thats pretty odd to be starting them off on a protected page anyway
SLL maybe, but protected right from the time they hit the default page of the site.. thats just odd.. usually you want o say a little something about the site your at and then link people to protected areas or give them a login form which posts to a protected area.

Regardless if you always want users at your site under https:// you should have code on every single page in your site checking the url info at every page load. Then if someone ever hits a page and is not using the https://  you can do something about it like redirect them to the SSL home poge or redirect to that same page but with the https:// in the url..

,

I just finished implementing the V7 product on our site and someone made mention that on the profile form where you are asked all your personal and user information there are 2 fields for passwords.  The first field uses masking to hide the password as you type it, where the second shows it in clear text.

Now we know that the only people able to see the password are the user and the administrator, but it is playing mind games with my users as they think there is a problem with the application.  I am not a programmer (however, learning ASP slowly now!) and am not sure if you did this on purpose or if it is a bug?

If it was done on purpose, can you advise how I can make the confirm password field masked as well to eliminate the unfounded questions!

Thanks

,

cool.. let see if that works.  This was the command line that I had to enter in order for it to register.  Chris, as you stated before, you can try one of the other emailers, but you need a email server to tie to.

"regsvr32 cdonts.dll"

,

Sorry, there is no option for that.

I'll take it into consideration, but the way the banner rotation logic works would make adding such an option very complicated.

Just give it  an expiration date way into the future if you do not want an ad to expire anytime soon.

I usually just make all my ads expire in like 2020 or something like that since I don't want them to stop running either on some of my sites.

cwilliams38247.1116319444,

I finally spoke with someone who knew what I was asking for and they set the rights and all is fine.

Thanks for your help. Wish all business' had customer support like here

,

I have been having some display issues with the .NET version of ASPBanner.  I set the size of the image, and I set the size of the banner and there is still white space above and below the image.  I am not using a text link below the banner, so I have it set to blank.

Here is a link to my page.

http://www.nababaseball.com

Two of the three banners in the rotation on the main page have non-white backgrounds so it's easy to see the issue I'm talking about.

Is there a way to tighten up the formatting so that the image fits onto the page in the size specified?

, Just checked XML Parsing with your file. Got a clean bill of health on that: It's working.

Got the right code for the location of the ipn.asp in my paypal1.asp, from http:// all the way to .asp.

I think since everything is set up properly from the looks of things, I'll wait and see. If I get another one who flubs things, then I'll start the testing of the account. But if it goes through just fine, then maybe the Internet just hiccoughed on the first guy... thanks again!

, "do you know a way around the BinaryRead problem with ASPProtect?"

Let me rephrase:

Do you know a way in which ASPProtect can be modified to get around the BinaryRead problem?

Thanks,

CJW

, Oh, it does seem to put the photo in the correct directory.,

rrabago

I have been looking over the code and also doing some tests.

So far everything in the code looks correct and everything I have tried has worked correctly. If I select an access level and active users it is not sending emails to inactive users as you stated.

Are you using the option pack ?

cwilliams38103.9618402778, I swapped a few emails with CJW regarding support for ASPMail.  This application works with this software.  I host my site with a private hosting company named 'Intermedia.net' and this is what I had to do to make this application work.

1 - Change email settings to 'SASMTPMail' installed
2 - Find all instances of the following code:

                If ASPMail_Installed = true then
                  &nbs p; Set Mailer = Server.CreateObject("SMTPsvg.Mailer")
                Else
                  &nbs p; Set Mailer = Server.CreateObject("SoftArtisans.SMTPMail")
                End If
    Change this code to simply:
                Set Mailer = Server.CreateObject("SMTPsvg.Mailer")

3 - that was about it.  The files that I needed to change are:
       /users/email_password.asp
       /users/add_new_account.asp
       /gallery_admin/approve_album.asp
       /email_friend.asp

I believe that's all i needed to change.  Any questions I'd be happy to try to help out.  [CJW -- for some reason i needed a restart on the server, it's all good now http://www.iphotosite.com/galleryapp/default.asp.  I'll be putting in a redirect for that location/domain later today.

, I down loaded your latest ASPProtect.NET_v1.4 and now when i try to get in the admin area it won't let me in. The admin box is selected in the database under the admin user and i can update my user information (password and Address, not username). Is there something that was changed on this version or is it more likely user error on my part? What do you think i should try first?,
  • What kind of encryption do you use with version 7?
  • If I purchase version 7 and use it on my site with a new SQL database then migrate the old records from version 6 so I can by-pass the issue with my home-grown Base 64 encryption, do you forsee other issues with the upgrade?
,

I have narrowed it down.  The ../ for includes will not work with .asp files but will work in .shtml files.

any ideas?

,

I dont know. Perhaps a fresh installation in a new folder would be a good idea as well if possible..

for troubleshooting sake..

, well, thats a network drive path and in my opinion a very poor way for them to have set things up. It can work as long as permissions get set there and they have the anonymous webserver accounts set up correctly to handle that scenario, but performance isn't the best because your accessing the access database over the network. Access databases are not just not meant to be connected to over the network in a web based scenario. Quality ASP hosting companies do not set up their servers that way and it can often be difficult to get things running as it is a more complex setup on their end. Meaning if they dont synchronize the IUSR_machine accounts correctly you'll have permission issues.

http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2168 , Has this been resolved ?, Its not a known issue.. I would try the original code before you made any changes and see if it still happens to you.

It seems to be working fine here for me in amy test web.

I am going to look into some more in the meantime.cwilliams38341.7166782407,

Running in parallel for testing is actually a smart way to do it, but the truth is you don't use anything from version 6 except the upgraded database (we have a tutorial on how to upgrade the database)

Version 7 was a drastic change /rewrite to all of the asp files that come with the application. So you will be starting out with fresh version 7 ".asp" files and folders... You will also find that once you get version 7 running that editing certain things like the look of the users area and the login screens is much easier to do.

That being said any of your own ".asp" pages that you protect use the same protection code they always did, so there will be no drastic changes needed there when you do finalize the upgrade.

If using MSACCESS as the database I suggest installing the application somewhere in your web and using a fresh ASPProtect 7 database. Once you are familiar with the setup and everything is working fine. Attempt the database conversion and when your done stick your converted database in there and see if everything is ok.

Also, if you already purchased the application download the latest version before doing the install. It's the same download URL. If you don't have it email me and I can hook you up. I have added some new features and fixed a couple minor things since it's release.

So far the feedback on version 7 has been awesome..

cwilliams38414.0133680556, [QUOTE=cwilliams]

Every application we sell that has a password on the database uses "temp"

Also, the password is in the connection string in the dataconn_inc.asp file.

After all, the ASP code needs to know the password just like anyone that wants to open the database would.

[/QUOTE]

That i have, my question revolves around the all the users and passwords that I in that database. I need to be able to export that list to word for a mail merge list, but when I do the passwords show up encrypted. I need to be able to get an unencypted list.

thanks

,

I dont understand why I would get an error? -- I'm not sending the email from internal - so why would it try to validate?

I'm trying to send an email to an independent place - just like I would send an email to you

Am I using the wrong email setting - should I be doing something other than using "remote server"

,

I did the initial steps of downloading the sql scripts and running it in Query Analyser, tables created fine.

I can login for the first time. I exit from the browser and then I cannot login again. This happens for every user and admin.
I noticed that the values in the fields "Login_limit" and "Active" in the ASPP_Users table in the SQL changed to NULL and 0 when login and remained in those values after close the browser.

So iam just struck not able to log in. Pls advice.

,

that is because passwords in the import/export files are encrypted.. if you make one of your own you need to use the rc4 function in the "config_inc.asp" to encrpyt your passwords just like the aspprotect system does (requires knowledge of vbscript and integration into your export system)

now, there is a way around this

if you want to import a file you made with clear text passwords edit "import.asp" beforehand and change

 If UserArray2(5) <> "" Then CmdAddUsers.Fields("Password") = UserArray2(5)

to

 If UserArray2(5) <> "" Then CmdAddUsers.Fields("Password") = RC4(UserArray2(5), PasswordEncryptionKey)

that way it should convert your clear text passwords to encrypted while it does the import

this post also addresses this but in the reverse scenario
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=261&PN =1&TPN=1

I hope this helps you because I really do have to leave the office like right now. Very late for a dinner meeting.

I should be back on the computer later tonight or tommoro morning

,

It turns out that I never enabled ASP.net on the site. After doing that the skins work much better. I'll have to poke around and see what other functionality is now available.

Thanks!

Al
