ASPProtect and PayPal are fully automated and ready to go. Accounts will automatically get activated after payment.
We actually do not tell you to put nothing in the PayPal system for the IPN URL. Something has to be there or PayPal will not let you enable IPN. We actually tell you in you PayPal settings to turn on IPN and make up an IPN url because something has to go there. (I think we suggested making a blank asp page on you're site to send it to) It really doesn't matter where you send that but it might as well be a valid page on your site to avoid any 404 errors in your logs when a non ASPProtect payment comes in.
You see, we dont set that IPN url set in the PayPal system because each ASPProtect signup script directory (single payment and subcription) uses it own IPN url and that all gets set on the fly by the aspprotect system. There is a way to overide the defaul IPN url is what I am saying.
Also: A lot of people already have something there and we didn't want the ASPProtect system to interfere with things they already had going on. cwilliams38421.530787037, noted.
1.) this has been explored and because of the way groups works is not feasable. Because us this I wrote code to allow you to view and sort all users for any group on the actual groups page. You pick a groups and then click the "Show Users" button

Hints & Tips when working with ASP http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/common_sense.asp cwilliams38436.5949768519, Hi,
The source code comes with it. They are the.vb files.
I don't give out any project files for reasons stated in the article below.
Please read this in full if you want to edit the application in Visual Studio.NET
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo85-1.htm , ya it should have uploaded that no problem...
what about something blocking the use of the filesystem object and causing these timeouts ?
Your not running anything like Norton Script Blocker are you ? Its part of Norton Antivirus or Internet Security and causes all sorts of problems with ASP when it is running on a server. Especailly when using the filesystem object to deal with text files and when uploading via pure asp.
It could be the cause of the all these problems or something like it ?
It will cause a timeout like your getting and give no real reason why.
More info on that. http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2180, ok, I am going to do that in the next few hours. I cant do it right now as I have a few other business's and something else needs my attention right now.
Chris, It's real easy actually if ya sniff around the source code. ASP is so easy to (work with/edit) even if you dont know any code.
edit "save.asp" with a text editor
change
If Request("First_Name") = "" Then ErrorMessage = ErrorMessage & Server.URLEncode("You must enter a First Name.\n\n") End If
to
If Request("Company_Name") = "" Then ErrorMessage = ErrorMessage & Server.URLEncode("You must enter a Company Name.\n\n") End If
From looking at that save code I dont see where Last_Name was required. The only name I saw required was a 1st name.
Also.. making the First_Name not required may break something somwhere else. I dont think it will but it might. You are warned. cwilliams38326.5102662037, I had not rebooted after installing the Jet driver updates, so I tried that and the asptest page worked fine, and said that all the tests were successful and that the data connection was setup correctly. I then installed aspprotect again, but with the same results. I cannot log-in from the get_me_in.asp page. It still says that it is opening the page, but does not respons for an indefinite period. The asptest page is in the same directory.
I have looked for alternate databases for this product on your site, but I cannot seem to find them. , I am still a little confused... one thing I would like to mention is that the passwords in the aspprotect database are encrypted... meaning you cant just add a password to the user database by hand because it wont be the encrypted value and wont work.
It is something the application takes care of when you add a user via the web based interface.
You can however still add users manaully or with careful import/exporting... but you will have to use the existing password conversion technique which is covered at the end of our upgrade instructions in these forums. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo174-1.htm
Basically you want to add a field to the "ASPP_Users" table called "Old_Password" and that is where you enter the password in plain text. Then after you are finished adding users to the database manually you do this.
You want to run a special page via the browser.
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/convert_to_encrypted.asp
Which will convert the passwords to the encrypted value for you. See the bottom of this thread for all the info on that. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo174-1.htm , If you want to have a login form on a non protected page that posts to a protected ".asp" page use code like this.
Change the action of the form to the page you want them to log into. Make sure the page you send them to is protected by the "check_user_inc.asp" file.
<center> <table border="0" width="400" height="200" bgcolor="#000000"> <tr> <td bgcolor="#F4F4F4"> <form method="POST" action="memberarea.asp"> <input type="hidden" name="Status" value="Checkem"> <p align="center"><font face="Arial">ASPProtect Login</font></p> <div align="center"> <center> <table border="0" bgcolor="#C0C0C0"> <tr> <td bgcolor="#EBEBEB"><strong><small><font face="Arial">Username</font></small></stro ng></td> <td><input type="text" name="Username" size="10"></td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#EBEBEB"><strong><small><font face="Arial">Password</font></small></stro ng></td> <td><input type="Password" name="Password" size="10"></td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#EBEBEB" colspan="2"><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size="-1"><input type="checkbox" name="KEEPMESIGNEDIN" value="True">Keep me signed in on this computer unless I log off.</font></td> </tr> </table> </center> </div> <div align="center"> <center> <p> <input type="submit" value="Login"></p> </center> </div> </form> </td> </tr> </table> </center> cwilliams38411.453912037, The ASP error on the home page has been solved -There was aproblem with the path that was including the home page file and we fixed it.
However the error on the member page remains - any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. This is the error:

, Hello Chris:
Let me run some more test if it's working on your end it should be on mine? I have made some custom updates to the code but no in that area.
Thanks, -Ricardo
, Hello,
I dont know exactly how you go about that and it would really depend on a lot of things like when the ad started and how yu wanted t handle that. it would involve custom coding though, not a change in the database. , Upgrade from V6 to v7.x with an MSACCESS DATABASE
1st of all, backup your existing ASPProtect files and database before performing this upgrade. Please be really careful while performing this upgrade. Version 7.x is a highly advanced application compared to any previous versions. CJWSoft under no circumstances is responsible if you lose information or have website downtime.
BOTTOM LINE: (PERFORM THIS UPGRADE AT YOUR OWN RISK)
To do this upgrade you're going to need to have the Microsoft Access Application. To work with an Access .mdb file it can not be newer than the version of Microsoft Access you are running.
That being said, on with the upgrade..
Open you're existing Acccess Database up in Microsoft Access.. You should see this something like this.

By right clicking on then choosing rename Rename "Users" to "ASPP_Users" Rename "Groups" to "ASPP_Groups"
If you do not have a "Groups" table do not worry about it right now.
Now right click and DELETE the Config Table. Yes, delete it..
You should now see this. (with or without the "Groups" table)

Now, right click on "ASPP_Users" and go into design view. It should look like this.

Rename the "Password" field to "Old_Password" Be sure to spell it perfectly using the Underscore It will look like this.

Now scroll down to the bottom a bit It should look like this.

Now..
If you have a "Groups" Field... leave it alone If you do not have a "Groups" Field add one and make it a memo field.
Now, we are going to add a few more new fields.
Add a field called "Redirection_URL" make it a "text" field with 150 field size Add a field called "PayPal_Subscriber_ID" make it a "text" field with 100 field size Add a field called "Newsletter" and make it a yes/no field Add a field called "Password" and make it a "text" field with 100 field size
It should now look like this. (you do not need to worry about the field descriptions.. that part is optional and only seen when working on the database)

Now close that window and save the changes..
Your now going to open up another Access Database while still leaving the one you have on your screen open. You going to open up one of the new databases that came with v7.x. This database has some info we are simply going to copy and paste.
You'll want to open it and put it side by side on your desktop like so. (the old database is on the left.. the new one is on the right)

Now, for the fun part.
On the new database to the right.. right click on the "ASPP_Config" table and pick "Copy"
Then move your mouse over to the old database on the left. Right click in the open white area and click "paste"
It will ask you for a database name. Type in "ASPP_Config" Leave "Structure and Data" checked and hit OK
Your old database on the left should now have a nice new "ASPP_Config" table.
OK, now for the "ASPP_Groups" table
If you already have a "ASPP_Groups" table in your old database you are done.
If you do not have one your going to copy and paste the table from the New Database to your old database just like we just did with the "ASPP_config" table.
Your old database should now look like this.

Now, you are done upgrading your database from within Microsoft Access.
The existing passwords still have to be encrytped and moved from the "Old_Password" to the "Password" field
To that we have a special page we run in the application that will take care of that.
So, for now... go install the application, but using the database we just created. Follow these instructions for the most part... http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=181& ; ;PN=1
When you get to the part where you finally get into the admin area and need to make an admin account you will notice that your existing user database is there but none of the users have passwords if you look at them in the edit screen.
That is normal. Simply do what the instructions say and create and admin account using a username that does not exist..
Then log off... then back in as that new admin account. If that works you are ready to convert the passwords.
This part is very easy.
You want to run a special page via the browser.
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/convert_to_encrypted.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
Once you get the page running you will see a login prompt and one form field just like before with the "get_me_in.asp" page
You will need to paste the "PasswordEncryptionKey" value that you used in the "config_inc.asp" file in the form field and hit enter.
If all goes well you will see a page telling you to click here to encrypt the passwords and copy them over.
So do what it says... dont click more than once and wait.
Eventually it should say it is finished. So go log in to the admin area of the system using the new admin account.
Now edit some users but dont save... you want to see if the passwords are showing up. If they are the conversion worked. If you see nothing or a garbled mess it did not work and you made a mistake during this whole process.
If things went well backup and delete the conversion file below.
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/convert_to_encrypted.asp
You do not need it anymore.
Once you are positive every thing is running smoothly and everyone's passwords are ok you can go in and delete the "Old_Password" field as well.
If things didnt go well.. try again from scratch and go slowly. If they still dont go well get ahold of us for help.
We are here to help, but if you really want us to we can be hired to do the conversion. , Lastly, I put there information here to help, but please don't ask me any questions about it.
I am not microsoft SQL server support. If this doesn't work for you simply start troubleshooting and doing google searches like I do. , Hi all
I logged in myself to my website, and I tried to log in to another with same username and password. But I was able to log in again.
It was supposed to block me from logging in, but it let me to log in.
there has got to be some configurations I must have missed.
Could you instruct me on this Concurrrent login so mine works as well...
thanks
, I am a little confused here. I am in the process of understand how this all works, mainly the email portions as I am running this through a home server (Windows XP). I have tried test emails, but they are not going threw. I ran the server_info.asp and it is telling me that I do have CDONTS installed, version 2.8. Then I tried running, the test_mailer_component.asp. This page is telling me it is not installed. This process lead me to start looking at my components for my IIS. Everything appears to be there.
Any ideas, where I should go next. It appears the CDONTS code is in every page that it needs to be in, and it appears that I have it installed, but there is a disconnect between the two..
, Hi Chris,
The hosting company has been doing some work apparently regarding the database connection issue. Still something is funky
When I type in www.vickerylightning.com/aspgallery/default.asp I get the custom 404 error page and I noticed that it is trying to open the following:
http://www.vickerylightning.com/skins/default/settings.asp
Is that what it is supposed to do?
Thanks! Rhona, the rookie
, Yup everything looks ok - but why no error?
This just gets better - now the email a friend link says sent successfully and doesn't send out - what the heck...
What would cause it to 'think' it is doing the task yet still fail? , I have never heard of such a thing... If the settings are enabled for the web it should work. That is, as long as your include file syntax is valid.
I run my own windows 2003 server (you are on it now) so I should know
for troubleshooting
try a very very simple example... like a file in a folder.. with a server side include to a file under it
and see if that works
use real simple asp files with nothing crazy in them... and an include like this
<!--#include file = "../myfile.asp"--> cwilliams38434.5388773148, Please be more specific. What hit count are we talking about ?
User Logging ? Albums ? Something else ?
Please descriube the situation in detail. There are really no settings for any sort of hit count. , Christopher,
Thank you again Sir. Your quick responses and helpful demeanor add greatly to the value of your software. , I wonder why the banners in ASPBanner 8.1 are moving from one place to another when opening my site www.helserevyen.no in a Mac Safari browser and click on refresh?
Can you take a look at my site and response? , It is refered to as the internet guest account but that isn't the actual username. The username is different for every machine. It usually starts off with "IUSR_" and then your machine name. "Internet Guest Account" is always the account's full name as labeled by IIS when it is installed.
Regardless,
If an account isn't listed you have to add it.
Click (add-advanced-find now) and it will list off all the user accounts on the machine
You can also click (add-advanced) and simply type in the account name or part of it.
Some more tips:
If on a local machine you always just give the "everyone" account full control which is pretty much going to make anything work.
You can also go to computer management in your server's administrative tools and view all of the accounts and groups there under "Local Users and Groups".
cwilliams38417.7186689815,
ASPProtect v7.x runs on Microsoft IIS servers only. That means Windows XP Pro, Windows 2000 server and Windows 2003 server. The web server must have ASP support enabled and support Data Connections. 99% of them do as it's a pretty normal thing, but you should ask and make sure your hosting plan supports it.
Before you even start please read this thread and do what it says. If any errors show up it is important you see the real error instead of a useless HTTP 500 internal server error. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11& PN=1
Once doing that make sure to use Internet Explorer as you follow along with these directions.
Now, unzip your installation zip file that you downloaded from CJWSoft. Use a program like winzip and be sure you have it set up to unzip the directories as well. You can also use windows xp's built in folder compression tools to unzip the archive.
When you unzip the application you should have all of the following folders and files. (more or less, it depends on the version)

Now, you can copy all of these files into the root of your website or if you like you can make a folder called "aspprotect" and put all of these folders and files in that folder. Either way it really does not matter.
Now, contact your web hosting company and instruct them that you need permissions set on the data folder that you copied into your website. This folder and all of its child folders need modify permissions set on it for the anonymous webserver account. It is very important that they set the permissions correctly and on all the child folders as well.
Here are some threads on exactly how these permissions are set. If you run your own server or are developing locally you can do this yourself. If not most likely you need to put in a request to your hosting company as you CAN NOT set these permissions via Frontpage or FTP.
Windows 2003 Server and permissions http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=136& ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1
Windows XP Pro and permissions http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=56& PN=1
Once permissions are set.. run this page via your web browser
http://www.mysite.com/data/setup_info.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
When this page is run it will report back a screen like so:

Now, take the connection string info it shows you. Edit the "dataconn_inc.asp" file in the root of the ASPProtect system and use that data connection information. It should be valid for the server.
If you are using MSSQL server instead of Access please see the SQL database creation directions as you will need to create the MSSQL database and use a special connection string for that. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=160& ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1
Now, take the CookieEncryptionKey and PasswordEncryptionKey info that it gives you and enter it into the "config_inc.asp" file in the root of the ASPProtect system. These will be the unique keys that your encryption will be based off of.
Ok...
The files have been copied to your website, the permissions are set on the data folder, and the database connection is ready.
Now.. run this page
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/get_me_in.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
This is a special page we use to get into the system for the 1st time.
If you get a nasty error when you run that page similar to this.
Error Type: Active Server Pages, ASP 0131 (0x80004005) The Include file '../dataconn_inc.asp' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.
Then parent paths are disabled on the webserver and you need to do an extra step to deal with that. Follow this link. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=162& ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1&TPN=1
If you get any other variery of "80004005" error then there is a problem with your data connection. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=27& PN=1
Those errors are usualy related to database folder permissions or an imcorrect physical path to the database file specified though they can mean a lot of things.
Once you get the page running you will see a login prompt and one form field
You will need to paste the "PasswordEncryptionKey" value that you used in the "config_inc.asp" file in the form field and hit enter.
If all goes well you will see the admin area of ASPProtect.
Now that you are in the system you need to create an admin account.
Click on "ADD NEW USER".. fill out the info and add a user. You really only need to fill out (first name, last name, email, username, and password)
Now save that user.
You should see a new user listed in the admin area. Click on Edit user to the left of the new account. On the edit screen check the "admin" checkbox and save the user.
You just created an Admin account.
Now click on the "log off" button on the top menu and click yes to log off.
Now close the browser. Then run this URL
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/default.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
You should now be able to in to the admin area of the system using the new admin account you created.
You are now ready to go to the settings page so click on the settings tab in the menu. There are a lot of options and paths that need to be set on this page. Every setting is described in detail on this page. You need to go through the page and set things up properly. Anytime the page asks for a path to a url or file the page will auto generate what should be the path to use. (expected path) If your server has parent paths disabled a few of those auto generated paths will not show up. If that is the case run this url from your server and it should tell you the paths to use for those settings.
http://www.mysite.com/data/expected_paths.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
Once your all done and the system seems to be running fine you should go back and delete the following pages as they are no longer needed and pose a potential security risk.
http://www.mysite.com/data/setup_info.asp http://www.mysite.com/data/expected_paths.asp http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/get_me_in.asp
You should back up the original zip archive you got from CJWSoft in case you ever need those files again.
VERY IMPORTANT: The user passwords from now on will be encrypted using the "PasswordEncryptionKey" you specified in the "config_inc.asp" file.
If you ever change that key all of your passwords will be invalid and you can not get them back unless you know the key and put it back, so plan on never changing that key unless you really know what your doing and know how to decrypt/re-encrypt the passwords using a new key. (something we do not cover at the moment but probably will when we have time to make a tutorial) , It a generic error that means something is wrong with your data connection.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo27-1.htm
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo136-1.htm
, again.. more custom code work would be required to handle it
, ok... glad ya figured it out.
Yes.. for ASP server side code to run the page extension must be ".asp". I was gonna mention that but I guess I just didnt think anyone would do that.
no offense.. not everyone works with this stuff every day.. , That is by design and how it is designed to function.
There is no easy way to do what you are asking about.
Can it be done ?, sure!!
But it is a lot of custom coding to sort it all out and not something we support.
If I were you I would simply edit the login box screen to show some hyperlinks and options should a person need to use them. , My guess is they are not going to allow you to run your own oledb connector out of your own personal bin directory.
I don't think your going to be able to modify aspprotect to work under
that environment very easily, but I would give 1&1 a chance to
explain their reasoning and they might actually be able to provide a
simple fix who knows.
I have never seen a situation where a host goes messing around with
.NET that worked out good for anyone. I'm sure they have a reason, but
the entire world writes code to work on the platform as Microsoft
shipped it not as someone decided was a better way to set it up.
, Hello,
You'll need to find a validation function to test for it. Either server side or right in the form via client side javascript.
I dont have any experience with validating zip codes here much less UK.
Google it would be my best advice.. or maybe find some free app written in UK format and see how they did it.
Good Luck..
And if ya find anything post it here if ya like cwilliams38381.5607638889, You can mix and match banner calling methods all you want. Try it and see what happens.
However, the only method that is going to work on non ".asp" pages is the javascript or the new iframe method listed in the support forums.
cwilliams38209.532349537, After taking another look at this and trying your suggestions without success, it appears that in Windows 2003 server it is nearly impossible to remove the READ ONLY attribute from the _database folder. I'm wonder if this could the cause?
Thanks , Ohhh...
I was thinking it worked like this; A user goes to that page and logs in.. and from there they can then browse the site and do what they want..
So in order for it to work i need to edit a page say... members.aspx (i assume it needs to be an asp.net page) and in the header put that protect code and when a user accesses it, it will prompt them for their un and pw and then if correct will allow them to view the page... and likewise if they are still logged in will be able to use the page?
If that is how to works as i mentioned above thats great...
I understand the redirect principle...but say i have a log in box on the main page... you know like most pages have a user log in on the left hand side... i wanted to do that. But i cant obviously protect the main home page or else normal users will not be able to view it without logging in or registering , I have accessed the "get_me_in.asp" page and entered the password encryption key. Once I entered it, I was taken to the ASPProtect Admin Area Login. It does not give me the option to create a new user as is described in the general installation documentation. How do I access the program now?, That would be great.
I am sure you know that many virus that are sent via email have the same property. (double extension). The code can be executed even though Windows identifies them as simple text files etc.
Thanks again , Yup, it probably means the virtual directory is not configured as an Application in IIS.
You did put this in a plain folder in your web, correcct ? Not a subweb
Regarding the application settings for the virtual directory.. if it is your server you set that stuff up in the IIS console.
If hosted somewhere it is there responsibility to have that set up correctly for you and you need to contact them and ask them what the deal is. cwilliams38455.9035300926, Christopher
Found this but I dont really know what to do with it or even if its the right thing.

, Hi. Chris. I'm not a programmer of any sorts, so I am not comfortable plugging in the changes you suggested and not knowing for sure if it will "break something somewhere else". If the programmer tells me "you have been warned", its a pretty good sign its a no win situation. If you don't know, theres no way i can know.
I saw in the code where you mentioned the changes. I don't see where it mentions the last name is required either, but the bottom line is it does require it it the actual new user form.
Thanks anyway Chris. I'll figure something out.
