Hello dear Chris
I can login for the first time. I exit from the browser and then I cannot login again. This happens for every user.
I noticed that the values in the fields "Login_limit" and "Active" in
the ASPP_Users table in the SQL changed to NULL and 0 when login and
remained in those values after close the browser.
If manually I change the values it is ok but the problem repeated.
Thank you in advance.
, Ow.
I haven't moved (or messed with) any critical files within the directory at all, just placed them as a job lot into a subdirectory call aspprotect.
All I did was put all the files directly into a directory rather than into the root because some of the subdirectories had the same name as some already in use and would therefore have been overwritten.
I'll go back and have another look in the cold light of day (its too late tonight UK time).
Thanks anyway.
,
The Pop-Up Javascript Date Pickers will only show up of your server's regional settings are set to one of two lCID values.
1033 which is English - United States
mm/dd/yyyy date format
or
2057 which is English - United Kingdom
dd/mm/yyyy date format
Many servers are set to run the default LCID which is 2048 so the banner system will not show the date pickers.
This setting can however be easily overwritten when using the ASPBanner system.
Edit the "config_inc.asp" file with a text editor.
Add this code between the <% and %> tags.
Near the top is good
Session.LCID = 1033
or
Session.LCID = 2057
depending on what date format you are looking to use
Save the file and go edit a banner. The date pickers should be there now.
cwilliams38325.7403125, That is by design, removing and deleting are two different things as far as the classifieds system goes.
A regular user can only remove an ad from the category index. (which makes the ad inactive)
An admin however can truly delete an ad from the system.
, I wonder why the banners in ASPBanner 8.1 are moving from one place to another when opening my site www.helserevyen.no in a Mac Safari browser and click on refresh?
Can you take a look at my site and response?

, I just finished implementing the V7 product on our site and someone made mention that on the profile form where you are asked all your personal and user information there are 2 fields for passwords. The first field uses masking to hide the password as you type it, where the second shows it in clear text.
Now we know that the only people able to see the password are the user and the administrator, but it is playing mind games with my users as they think there is a problem with the application. I am not a programmer (however, learning ASP slowly now!) and am not sure if you did this on purpose or if it is a bug?
If it was done on purpose, can you advise how I can make the confirm password field masked as well to eliminate the unfounded questions!
Thanks
, This is the 1st time anyone has ever told me they had any issues with the import process so I need more detailed information.
What upload component/method are you using ?
Are you using an image resizing component ?
Have permissions been set on the import folder ?
And lastly..
Can I see this happening ?
If not please put it on a live server where I can troubleshoot it for you.
Like we say on our site.
In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine. We also may require access to your server in order to troubleshoot any issues.
cwilliams38394.7298263889, Ok, if the link to the import/export screen does not show up its probably because you never put the import/export path in the admin settings?
go check that for me.
cause running that page without a path for the files could cause a timeout.. thats why the link doesn't show if the path is not entered (so people won't run it)
it looks sorta like this (there will be a field to fill in which wont show here)
Settings below specify the physical directory path of the export directory. This is used by the system when using the import/export feature. The export directory needs modify permissions for the anonymous webserver account. |
ExportDirectory |

the path must be valid for your file structure and it must have correct permissions (when creating files) , You would have to carefully edit the asp code in the "add_new_account.asp" file. It you look that file over with a text editor it is pretty easy to see where the text to edit is. Just make sure you edit it in the section for the email component you are using. Back the file up before you make any changes to it so you can revert back if you mess anything up., upgrade pricing is here
http://www.aspbanner.com/purchase_unlimited_v8.1_classic_upg rade.asp
what is different
http://www.aspbanner.com/v8_notes.asp
the changes to make it work with MySQL were vast to say the least
more on that from an old thread
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=37&PN= 1&TPN=1
just please remember use of MySQL is just not supported
http://www.aspbanner.com/mysql.htm
I can assure you it works well as I have people using it
, no, there is not not.
If you wanted to to that you would have to add some code to check their album count in the database and not allow them to make a new album if they were at the limit.
cwilliams38433.0233680556, Christopher,
I can empathize. It can be a real pain to stablize a server and fend off hack attacks.
As for beta testing, I was referring to once you get to the point where you're ready to release it to the public whether it's this month, next month, etc.
Good Luck!
Al
, now. I just went to that url and this is the error I see which shows me there is a character in the source code that shouldnt be there which is causing the page to halt.

, People who have the option pack have a new feature called groups.
Groups are meant as a replacement for using the access levels as they are much more powerful. Support for pages protected using access levels is left in tact for backward compatiability for a customers older protection code.
A customer recently told me groups could not be used like access levels and that 8 access levels was not enough. This is how I explained that groups can do everything access levels can do.
Groups can honestly do everything access levels can do if you really think about it.
Using groups and protecting pages accordingly you could actually create a system that basically worked identically to the way the access levels works.
For example..
You make 8 groups and assign users to them accordingly
Protection code on page allows access to groups 1-8
The aspprotect system generates this code for you…
<% GROUPACCESS = "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
In this case a user assigned to any one of those groups would have access..
Protection code on page allows access to groups 2-8
The aspprotect system generates this code for you…
<% GROUPACCESS = "2,3,4,5,6,7,8" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
In this case a user assigned to any group between 2-8 would have access..
Protection code on page allows access to groups 3-8
The aspprotect system generates this code for you…
<% GROUPACCESS = "3,4,5,6,7,8" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
In this case a user assigned to any group between 3-8 would have access..
cwilliams38114.800775463, Has this been resolved ?, Parent paths being enabled on the server is a requirement of the application. That error means just what it says.
you can change all the server side includes to virtual includes that will work or you can ask you host to enable parent paths.. those are the options
more here...
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo5-1.htm
, ok, well that should not be a problem then.. its meant to be able to be put in a folder like that.. just make sure the folder is not a subweb or anything like that... meaning dont set the folder up to have its own application in IIS. Just use a regular folder of course that is part of the root iis application.
Perhaps you just didnt edit the paths in the settings like I mentioned., Oh, to clarify the above. We did not change any columns in your [Users] database or any other table., The album ID thing is completely normal and by design. Once an ID in the database is used it can not be used again. That is how autonumber fields in a database work.
As far as not being able to delete images... Are you by chance using ASP.NET to show dynamic thumbnails... Because if you are you must turn that feature off and wait 20 minutes or so (maybe more) before you will be able to delete any of the images. It is because the current version of the ASP.NET script used to make the thumbnails locks the images on the server temporarily anytime it creates a thumbnail.
It is a known issue... and there is no fix at the moment other than what I told you above.
cwilliams38324.744525463, I've encountered another problem. When i edit the link for existing banners and save it, the banner reverts to the old link instead of the new one.
The directory where the the database is located to rwed so the permissions is not a problem.
Any advice?
Thanks
, again.. more custom code work would be required to handle it
, Thanks Chris.
Your solution worked!
, Thank you so much that works great.
I will test with the other settings on the email server again thanks for the advice,
best regards
, I am brought to a logon page in which I cannot access the page. This must be due to the check_user_inc.asp include. Without the include I get a blank page.
,
These Settings:
Picture upload feature settings. |
Use_Picture_Upload |
< = value=True name=Use_Picture_Upload> Check this if you will be using the picture uploading feature. |
UploadDirectory |
< size=60 value=C:\Inetpub\virtuals\aspphotogallery.com\Web\demo\pictu res name=UploadDirectory> Example: "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ASPPhotoGallery\pictures" Ask your server admin if you are not sure. This directory needs proper permissions for the SAFILEUP component or the VBSCRIPT solution to work correctly. It basically needs to same permissions as the database directory would need when using Microsoft Access. |
PictureURL |
< size=60 value=http://www.aspphotogallery.com/demo/pictures name=PictureURL> Example: "http://p600laptop/ASPPhotoGallery/pictures" This is the web URL of the the upload directory specified above. |
Use_SAFILEUP_Upload |
< = value=SAUP name=Upload_Solution> This option will enable file uploads using a component called SAFILEUP which is high end upload component available from www.softartisans.com. It is far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution.It is highly recommended for a busy site. If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error. |
Use_ASPUPLOAD_Upload |
< = value=ASPUPLOAD name=Upload_Solution> This option will enable file uploads using a component called ASPUPLOAD which is high end upload component available from www.persits.com. It is also far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution.It is highly recommended for a busy site. If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error. |
Use_DUNDAS_Upload |
< = value=DUNDAS name=Upload_Solution> This option will enable file uploads using a (FREE) component called DUNDAS UPLOAD which is a high end upload component available from www.dundas.com. It is also far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution.It is highly recommended for a busy site. If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error. |
Use_VBSCRIPT_Upload |
< = value= name=Upload_Solution> This option will enable file uploads using a pure VBSCRIPT solution. It requires VBSCRIPT version 5 or higher to be installed on the server. The solution usually works fine, but has been reported to cause memory leaks on XP machines. |
, The count is in the album area where the small pictures and description of album. Viewed 1 time(s) This count never changes.

, If we wanted to user groups, is the "Access Level" in the User setup the same ID as what the group access would be? Ex. If John had Access Level 4 and the page specified <% GROUPACCESS = "4" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
I'm asking because there is no Group Access Level in the user setup. Thanks
, I disagree...
It would be 20 hours + of conversion and testing. Maybe more.
Like I said, I converted a version fo ASPBanner once to work with MYSQL. It took forever to change all the code (2 weeks of messing around) and get it working. There were also a lot of issues with null values in the database, ado update code that had to be rewritten, cursor type issues, recordcounts not working, etc etc that had to be sorted out. There was a ton of situations where things seemed to be working but later on I noticed there were minor bugs to deal with. It was a lot of work.
ASP Photo Gallery has a ton of asp pages. It is a much larger app then ASPBanner. If you convert it to work with mysql I highly doubt you could have it running well with less than 20+ hours of work. I wrote the app and it would at least take me that long and there would still be bugs at that point.
If you think you could your not used to my style of coding and don't realize exactly how much stuff needs to be rewritten.
Granted, you could get some of the basics running off mysql in a few hours or less but there is just so much little stuff that would give you trouble.
cwilliams38243.9065277778, My site is composed of mostly asp based pages with some javascripting thrown in, but a fair amount is strictly html and javascripting. Currently I am using the javascript banner method throughout the site.
You have mentioned in the past that several other methods might be a better option for asp pages.
Examples would be: XML Parser Method or asphttp method.
I was wondering if it is possible to use the javascript method on my non-asp pages and maybe the asphttp method on the asp pages and all in the same Zone?
Or, is it possible to use the asphttp method on all pages, whether they are asp or not?
I'm just trying to figure out what is the most efficient way to use the banner system.
Or maybe should I just keep it all javascript method?
Any helpful feedback would be appreciated!
Thanks.

, Sorry, I forgot about that when I got hung up on the install problem.
I'll tackle your explanation now to see if I can get it working. Since I already bought the software I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks
, I really do not know for sure, but I imagine there are customers using their windows hosting. Usually I do not know what hosting company a customer uses and I am usualy the only one that responds to forum questions.
Why not download the current Free lite version and try it out ?

Just dont use option 2 on that page as that is specific to banmanpro

,
I have purchased ASPProtect to secure a web site that I administor for a soccer league. I am having a hard time getting the code to execute. the instructions are to include this code at the top of the web page under the Language identifier. Like this I think:
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!-- Begin ASPProtect Code -->
<!-- Groups with access to this page. ( * Admins * ) -->
<% GROUPACCESS = "4" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
<!-- End ASPProtect Code -->
However, nothing happens. I am not sure if I am missing something.
FYI: the "Check_user_inc.asp" file is in the root directory of the site which is actually two levels down on the d: drive of the server.
The web page code is located below.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

, Actually it would because you would just count records for that user that are also active
and yes, users cant delete albums.. they can only turn them off which really means the albums lose their active status
only the admin can truly delete an album the way the code is
(that's just the way I did it for some reason.. I don't remember why)
cwilliams38433.0343865741, I did a google search and it turns out that error very well might have to do with ASP trying to send an email and that process failing.
That tells me your emailing from the application is not working so it is probably not something you edited incorrectly.

Emailing was working as when I did your installation (I think I did it months ago, didn't I) so it must be some incorrect changes to your email settings in the admin settings screen. Try sending an individual email to a user from the admin users screen and see if it works. My guess is you will get the same error and means your email sending options are no longer correct or valid.
If that is the case I would ask you if you changed them or possibly something changed as far as your email setup goes. Passwords ? EMail Server .. etc etc etc
, This is great FREE SQL Server Web Data Administrator App from Microsoft..

It is an ASP.NET web application that you install locally on your development server and then use to connect to a SQL database whether remote or local.
It can do nearly everything enterprise manager can do.
I have tested it and it works great for me.
cwilliams38325.7453587963, no, you cannot unless you plan to write a lot of custom code.
That is why the option pack has groups which eliminate the need to use access levels because groups can do everything access levels can and more.
There is an article here regarding that.
