The parent paths things really should not be an issue.
This is an article from the troubleshooting section of the documentation that takes care of it all very easily.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo162-1.htm
As for a good host that knows ASP and does not mess around when you ask for something. I always recommened www.alentus.com
, I have found the alternate databases and they do not work either. I then went back and changed the database path in the asptest page to connect to the 2000 and 2002 test databases and it connected successfully to both of those databases, just as it had successfully connected to the asptest.mdb.,
where is your site ? I'll taka a look
, humm, I am curious
If these people are employees and sales reps why are are you using expiration dates at all ? and why the renewing issues... etc etc
I am sure there is a reason but you did not explain.
it might help me to better understand and possibly think about new features for new versions in the future., I am sure its permissions as well, but I don't have that much access to the hosted server...lol.
I will use access for now, since it works fine, and try to talk with the hosting people later.
Thanks!
, We would like to use some of the variables from the user account in our web pages after they log in (something like, 'hello <user>"), but for professional printout reports using company name and user.
Could you offer some help as to what variable string we use to print that information on logged in pages?
By the way, the program is working great!!!
cwilliams38446.6302083333, Please be more specific. What hit count are we talking about ?
User Logging ? Albums ? Something else ?
Please descriube the situation in detail. There are really no settings for any sort of hit count.
, Very weird for sure but I guarantee no code in ASPProtect is deleting that folder. Something else is going on the server and deleting it and I have no idea what it would be.
Maybe try leaving a blank text file in it and see if the folder disappears after a few days., Hello,
If you see that when doing a view source then that code is not running.
I will need to go into your site and look as something is very wrong on a low level and I have no more ideas.
PM or email me the info and I will figure out what is going on.
I'll need ftp or frontpage access to the site.
I'll also need to know the urls for the asprotect system as well as the page you are trying to protect.

cwilliams38229.7996064815, Larry,
I have a new computer up and running and am back on the Internet full time. I am here to help when you are ready to continue with this.
I went to your site to look around and "try it" like you mentioned but I can not really try anything as the admin username/password seems to be something other than the default
, You are not supposed to use "../" with a virtual include
Thats goes against what a virtual include is and makes no sense.
When using a virtual include you give the path as if accessing from the root of the main web / virtual directory
I find it very hard to believe it ever worked like that and if it ever did it was wrong.
cwilliams38434.6703356481, ok, well that should not be a problem then.. its meant to be able to be put in a folder like that.. just make sure the folder is not a subweb or anything like that... meaning dont set the folder up to have its own application in IIS. Just use a regular folder of course that is part of the root iis application.
Perhaps you just didnt edit the paths in the settings like I mentioned., All fixed and working
Thanks
, I have added two users in different group access but none of them can login to the pages
, Is there any way to extend the limit multiple login feature to a certain number instead all or none? In other words, i need to have a user be able to use the same login for x number of people. My customers are institutions and want to be able to have a single login for however many users they purchase for.
, well, thats a network drive path and in my opinion a very poor way for them to have set things up. It can work as long as permissions get set there and they have the anonymous webserver accounts set up correctly to handle that scenario, but performance isn't the best because your accessing the access database over the network. Access databases are not just not meant to be connected to over the network in a web based scenario. Quality ASP hosting companies do not set up their servers that way and it can often be difficult to get things running as it is a more complex setup on their end. Meaning if they dont synchronize the IUSR_machine accounts correctly you'll have permission issues.
http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2168 , It's real easy actually if ya sniff around the source code.
ASP is so easy to (work with/edit) even if you dont know any code.
edit "save.asp" with a text editor
change
If Request("First_Name") = "" Then
ErrorMessage = ErrorMessage & Server.URLEncode("You must enter a First Name.\n\n")
End If
to
If Request("Company_Name") = "" Then
ErrorMessage = ErrorMessage & Server.URLEncode("You must enter a Company Name.\n\n")
End If
From looking at that save code I dont see where Last_Name was required. The only name I saw required was a 1st name.
Also.. making the First_Name not required may break something somwhere else. I dont think it will but it might. You are warned.
cwilliams38326.5102662037, OK, thanks.., thats a new one... I need some sort of error to go on..
No error ever ? It must eventually show something ?
, OMFG, You do not run that page by itself. That is not how forms based authentication in .NET works. That is a special page used by the web.config file. It is automatically used when you protect one of your existing .NET pages but is not meant to run on it’s own thus the error.
To answer your other question a user is not sent anywhere. You protect existing ASP.NET pages as shown in the documentation and the examples. If sent to any protected page they are either prompted with a login box or if logged in they see the page as usual. If they log in the form posts to itself and they end up at the same page after supplying proper login credentials. That is how ASP.NET forms based authentication works. I suggest you get a good book on ASP.NET that explains all of that if you are still confused.
Now, if you really want some sort of page to redirect them somewhere after login make a basic asp.net page.. protect it.. and then use a redirect statement. , at this point I would say install a fresh untouched copy in the web in a different directory and lets see if it acts weird from scratch.. the we can go from there.. I dont know what is going on
, Hi,
I wanted to see if you had any suggestions for converting from Access to SQL sever database. I attempted this earlier today performing the following steps.
1) Create SQL Tables using Enterprise Manager / SQL Scripts
2) Use DTS to move all of the existing table data to the sql tables.
3) Update dataconn_inc.asp to use SQL and the required connection string.
When these steps were complete I was able to login to ASPProtect as an admin and search / find both groups and users. However, any attempt to edit or create users resulted in a "the page ... had a problem ... " type problem. It seems that I can read from the db fine but and getting errors writing to the tables. The user id that is being used to connect to the db is the [dbo].
Any additional hints for this procedure?
Thanks
Darrell
, I think this addresses your question

,
I'm in a bind cause I'm supposed to be launching on Monday!? I have four different subscriptions set up in ASPProtect and I'm going to 2Checkout for payment. When I go to 2checkout I have the same 4 subscriptions setup.
How does ASPProtect know what product id to use in 2Checkout?
I have the redirect setup etc. but it's using the default URL in 2checkout and not the product(Subscriptions). The only way I can tell what the user selects is from the price... and I'm specifying the time period, the cost, group in the 2checkout1.asp but I'm not getting the user set for the periods either.... my main problem is the interface to 2checkout... I think if a product id is added somehow it might work. What can I do?
thanks, -Jason

vaghelis38300.5484143519, All can say right now is take a break and get away from it for a bit. All your going to do is stress yourself out more if you keep working on it.
There is probably a way to make it work but it may require days of fiddling around and reading articles and trying things and even then you may not get it working AND THEN ITS JUST A BAD IDEA ANYWAY. Like John says you are better off running it on a server that is not a domain controller.
, sorry,
there is not.. it gets really complicated
its practically a miracle it does what it does due to the nature of the web
perhaps with some modications it could do mroe but the current version pretty much does what it does
, When using this code:
<!------- ASPBanner Ad code ------------->
<script language="JavaScript"> var code = '';
var now = new Date();
var nIndex = now.getTime();
document.write('<s' + 'cript src=" http://www.poconocommuter.com/aspbanner/injectbanner.asp?Ban nerZone=6&nocache=' + nIndex + '">');
document.write('</' + 's' + 'cript>');
</script>
<script language="JavaScript">document.write(jscode);</script& gt;
<!--------- End ASPBanner Ad code --------------->
I receive an error that jscode is undefined. The banner will not display.
Any ideas how to fix this?
, Humm, I dont see how moving to a new server could have anything to do with that.
What method of displaying the banners are you using. Perhaps try some of the other ones.
Don't use the javascript method with a javascript based ad like google.. that's for sure.
cwilliams38454.8903472222, Ok, have contacted the web hosts. Thank you for your help so far

Andy
, Got any info for me on this ?
Chris
, This isn't going to help you much but here is the deal.
The 2checkout support in ASPProtect actually is not supposed to work with 2checkout subscriptions and therefore does not need to use an item number.
It is intended to be used for single payments only with 2checkout as explained in this thread.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo212-1.htm
Single payments with 2checkout use their shopping cart which allows for dynamic payments without needing an item number.
I agree with you that 2checkout's interface is confusing. It's actually about the worst system I have ever seen. I could not make a 2Checkout subscription system because their system is just too limited and I couldn't make it work the way it really needed to.
, Turn off "Show Friendly HTTP error messages"
If you are getting errors with your ASP application go to Internet Explorer and make sure this setting is unchecked. Having this checked can cause a generic error to be displayed in you web browser when ASP code encounters an error. This generic error message doesn't really help you fix the problem. Having this setting unchecked will usually result in a more detailed error message and the line number the error is occurring at, thus giving you a good clue as to where the problem is within the ASP code. If detailed ASP error messages have been disabled at the server level this setting will make no difference.
cwilliams38084.7513773148, I was actually able to do similar thing by allowing our dedicated search engine to access the site unchallanged.
<%
If Trim(Left(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_USER_AGENT"),11)) = "MYPASSWORD" Then
SearchFlag = True
End If
If SearchFlag <> True Then
If Session("Access_Level") > CHECKFOR or Session("Access_Level") = "" Then
%>
<!--#include virtual="/Auth/check_user_Code.asp" -->
<head>
<title>My Title</title>
</head>
<body>
My Protected stuff here
</body>
</html>
For this to work, the search engine must pass the PW to the web site. I just was not sure how to do the same thing with IPs. I will play with the code and see what happens. If it works, I will post it here to help others, if this is OK with forum rules.
Thanks,
Mo
, thats intertesting.. I have never heard of the concept until now..
I did a search for ASP examples or ASP components that can help with the process and just couldn't find anything about it., Regarding hosting companies..
Now.. obviously if you are hosting on someone elses server you may not be able to set permissions like this.
Ultimately, if you are hosting somewhere and ASP and Database connectivity is part of your hosting plan. It is the hosting company's responsibility to set these permissions for you when asked or to give you a special interface to do so on your own. If they are not helping you do this then maybe it is time to get a hosting company that is serious about your ASP Hosting Needs.
Also... JUST TO BE PERFECTLY CLEAR
The permissions we are talking about cannot be set via FTP or Frontpage access to your web site. They must be set like shown above or via a special interface meant to set the permissions correctly. For all you people out there messing with the permissions you see in FTP and Frontpage.. you are wasting your time and possibly creating problems in your web.
All ASP scripts that communicate with an Access Database, Upload Pictures, Modify Text files.... are going to need these permissions set in some way or another. We have no control over that fact.
cwilliams38360.69125, do you have "use picture uploading" checked in the settings ?
that is important..
have proper permissions been set on the picture folder ?
are the paths set correctly for the picture folder ?, Hi Chris,
The hosting company has been doing some work apparently regarding the database connection issue. Still something is funky
When I type in www.vickerylightning.com/aspgallery/default.asp I get the custom 404 error page and I noticed that it is trying to open the following:
http://www.vickerylightning.com/skins/default/settings.asp
Is that what it is supposed to do?
Thanks!
Rhona, the rookie
, Need to clarify something..
Your talking about the page where a new user registers right ?
Your not talking about adding a new user from the admin area ?
Either way under no circumstances do I see anything like you are saying happening nor has any other ASPProtect user ever mentioned this probem.
I am going to need to see your site and see this happening. It just makes no sense the way you are describing it.
Also. did you edit the registration page code in any way. If so please revert back to an original copy to ensure this is not some sort of problem introduced by editing the code.
