Yeah, its working great witht he Access database. Now I just need to get it all set up. I like how the config file is set up with all the comments, it really helped allieviate the 40k thumbnails,  .
One quick question though, and I haven't looked through all the code yet... Is there a quick way to have pic_window.asp open full screen by default? I just want to minimize having to either scroll through, or maximize, the screen

and dont worry about the extra slash it seems to be adding at the end of the path. That is normal. I guess I need to fix that so it does not add that extra slash., Any updates on this ?, look in the "check_user_inc.asp" file

After turing off the delayed stats feature the internal errors have stopped and it still serves banners, although I havent checked the logs yet. I will and post any errors.
I left my test page up last night at say 11pm serving 4 banners of different sizes rotating every 15 seconds, now at 9am the page is just displaying 1. If I refresh the page they all reappear.

This bug was mentioned by a couple people. The cause of it was never really understood until I recently re-wrote some of the banner code for an upcoming version.
The fix for this bug was very simple. It was just one of those weird situations where code should have worked but did not. I added some code to do it a bit differently and it worked as it should have..
It really still makes no sense to me why it didnt work the way it was, but at least there is a fix.

As for the banner software custimizations.. you could just make another folder with a modified admin area (little tweaks here and there so the person logged in only controls their own banners) You'd probably want to add an approval process so nothing they did went live unless you really really trust them. That wouldn't be that hard either.
I always planned to do it someday but I just never have time.

If you'd like to remove, modify, or add fields to the "Users" view in
the password_admin default.asp page, it's really easy to do. Well, at
least it was for me. I'm using an MS Access database, by the way.
For me, I don't need "Company" info, but I do need last access and # of
times accessed displayed. Therefore, I had to change the default page
in three areas:
In /password_admin/default.asp, go to about line 185 or so, where you see stuff like:

OK, those are the column headings. Each one corresponds to a column
from your USERS table in your database. There are two more areas to
consider, both of which appear immediately after this section.

See the "First_Name" items? The first is for an ascending sort, the
second for a descending. This particular line corresponds to the code
snippet immediately above it. But all this does is handle the sorting.
For the actual data, look lower for this stuff:

It's a good ways down, so don't be impatient if you don't see it in 10
lines from the end of the last mentioned section. This stuff handles
the display of the data from the database (where else ya gonna get
data, anyway?)...
Now, to remove a field, you need to find the three sets that go with
that data. The ascending/descending sort is potentially the trickiest,
because it's the longest set of data and can take a number of lines.
Just clear it from the start td to the end /td and you'll be fine.
To *add* a field, copy and paste the code from an existing field and
modify it. In the first one, the column title, you can type whatever
you want to describe your info. Nobody but you and your admins will see
it. For the next two sections, though, you need to get the correct
column heading from the USERS table and use that to correct the lines
in the copied code you pasted in.
For example, when I added a column to show the number of times a user
logged in, I copied the above snippets and pasted them in where I felt
the column I needed should be. Then, in the first one, I changed "First
Name" to "Logins". In the ascending/descending snippet, I changed
First_Name to Counter. Same for the last snippet.
The result? A new column, showing the number of logins my users were successful with.
Of course, before you experiment, back up your existing default.asp file, JUST IN CASE.

Passwords can obviously only contain up to and including 8 characters... By some coincidence I only used short passwords with MS Access.
, YES.. you need to edit your SWF file to link to the aspbanner system...
example.. the link may look something like this

of course you need to put in the right information for your site and whatever banner ID it is in your system
Like it says above.. if you save the new banner at least once and then come back to edit that link will be generated for you at the bottom of the edit page.
then when your flash banner is clicked on it will go track the click and then send them to the "link_url" specified for that banner when you edited it.
(you need to enter the final destination url there if you want that to work) , its a text file you just edit it with notepad.. if ya mess it up ya put an original copy back in
no biggie either way

1. Two months ago, we have set up to use the Subscription services exclusively for all new members and renews. and removed the regular payment service, a carry-over from v6.
2. Many from the "pre-subscription" service have yet to expire, thus have a populated expiry field.
3. With a 10 month bridge before we get all the members onto the Subscription service the "Send email to users that are soon to expire."
is used to remind these.
3. When members RENEW using the subscription service, the Expiry Field is not Nulled and they become targets for future reminders although they have renewed as Subscribers.
XYZ signed up on Nov. 05 2004, we send him a reminder in Oct 2005 and he renews as a SUBSCRIBER. His expiry date field is not nulled and he will keep getting notices although he has paid for another year.

the chm format is a windows format that can only be viewed on windows pcs. I do not know why you can not see it. I would do reseach on viewing CHM files on whatever operating system and version you are running because perhaps you are using a mac or linux operating system which can not natively view chm files ?

I have installed ASPProtect on a client's website and I have been
notified that some of their customers have been unable to login to the
protected pages.
On testing it seems that the issues seem to be related to how cookies are being stored by IE 6.
ASPProtect is being used to protect particular template files within a
Content Mangement System. 90% of the time it is working fine but on the
odd occassion particular cutomers are unabe to login.
After quite a bit of testing I have managed to find the scenario in
which it starts to have problems and was hoping you may be able to
provide a solution.
If a customer enters the wrong password, then reenters the correct
username and password, they receive a message "template can not be
found" from the Content Management System. This message is generated
when a url is entered that contains a link to a template file that does
not exist. In this case the template does exist. If I remove the
ASPProtect code the page opens without error.
Everytime they re-enter the details they receive the same message.
If they close down the browser and then reenter the correct details in some instances the page will open correctly.
More often than not, they have to delete cookies and temporary files
and close the browser. This seems to fix the problem again for
most users. For users who's web access is heavily cached by an internal
server, even this does not work.
Have you come across this problem before and can you suggest a remedy.

, just leave the databse where it is, use the connection string generated for you and most importantly... put in a request with alentus for permissions to be set
tell them "D:\Websites\www.mysite.com\aspprotect\data" and all of its child folders need change permissions (r,w,x,d) set so aspprotect can do its thing
until the permissions are set that connection string can not work
this is all noted in the installation docs... , If by permissions ou are reffering to the IUSR with write/execute
permissions, they are already set. I get this error when I hit the 'Create New
Export File From Current User Database' link:

David van der Want , no the "expected path" is something that gets generated for you if you have parent paths enabled. to help you fill things in correctly...
basically if parent paths are enabled it shows you what the path should be for each path field on the settings page... if parent paths are disabled there will be nothing to the right of expected path for technical reasons (lack of being able to do a "../../" to figure out the paths more or less)
in that case there is a file called "expected_paths" in the data folder that you can run to tell you the expected path info
, Yea.. that error is totally because the asp pages are looking for fields in the database that are not there.. and causing a nasty loop.
if using the option pack you must go over the directions very carefully...
Make sure everything works step by step..
After upgrading to option pack code you either need to upgrade the database from the base system or use the newer database provided with the option pack.
Then.. you want to test every function of the groups.. if pages act slow and seem odd... especially the groups page and edit users page..
Then your not using a valid database. Either you didnt upgrade the old one, are not using the new one, or your connecting to an older verison by accident and not realizing it.

No one has ever said it acted funny.
I would do a default installation with the original code somewhere and see if the problem occurs. If it does I can take a look.
In the meantime I wouldn't be running that as it is probably using up massive processor time because of whatever is wrong with it. cwilliams38454.954212963, When a logged in user with specific group rights tries to look at a
page that has different group membership requirements the Login screen
comes up giving them an opportunity to login with different rights to
view the page. If you log in again with your current user name
the same login screen returns with the added words something to the
effect of "Access Denied, you dont have group rights to this page...".
The only way to get back to the previous page is to hit the back button
on the browser (there is not a back button on the denied page).
I would really rather not even present the "login again" screen to a
user but just have a custom page that says "access denied" of my own
design with a back button on it. Is this an option provided for
in ASPProtect currently? I did not see it in the admin section
settings tab. Is there a separate "login again" asp file that is
being used for this
group access deny message that I could alter, or does it always have to
be the login asp file?
Or would this require me modifying the check_user_inc.asp file around
line 356 to change this behavior (I don't want to screw up any other

Oh, PS. just a quick check...it looks like if a user is an
"admin" he automatically gets to see all group pages regardless of
which set of group numbers are assigned in his user account...is that

I just updated the zip archive so the error is gone but if you bought ASPBanner Unlimited Version 7.3 Before April/06/2004 you can optionally apply the fix.
To fix it (only if you want to use the option explicit method of calling banners and not even a really necessary fix as this is just an error in the generated code your supposed to use)
Just edit aspbanner/zones.asp with a text editor.
Where you see the double dim carefully remove one of the "dim" s and save the file. cwilliams38209.9251851852, What about browser caching ? It can happen easily especially if you update pictures over one another.
emtpy out the temp files of ie (take a while usually).. close all ie windows and go back..
Otherwise I need detailed info on the problem. What you told me is not enough to troubleshoot. There are so many factors like what image image rezie component you are using, the size of the pictures before conversion, server resources, what your doing regarding 3 albums.... etc etc
I have imported 100 pics at a time into an album on a fast server with no issues. Thats using any of the image resizing components.
If an album is new what your describing should never happen. Again, it think what your seeing is browser caching playing tricks on you. We have anticaching things in place so thumbnails never do that but not for the large images. cwilliams38235.5737615741,

Passwords in version 7 are encrypted so I hope you understand all of that and realize you can not enter or change passwords right from SQL server. Also if you import info you must handle that accordingly and convert the passwords to encrypted format. [/QUOTE]
First off, I haven't imported anything from MS Access.. The only reason I mentioned it is cuz I thought initially it worked with Access and not SQL server.
I am not converting nor entering any data manually into the db, nor have I changed anything in the way the registration is made (don't know where the "Old password" has come from? thought it was a function you made?) , Or at least I think so. My provider says that the problem is NOT on there end, that it is a problem with the code. I think that it is a database connection problem. Can you please help. Below is my connection string based on what the setup page directed me to do:

if it is a 2003 server parent paths must of course be enabled.. its a requirement of aspclassifieds , well, thats a network drive path and in my opinion a very poor way for them to have set things up. It can work as long as permissions get set there and they have the anonymous webserver accounts set up correctly to handle that scenario, but performance isn't the best because your accessing the access database over the network. Access databases are not just not meant to be connected to over the network in a web based scenario. Quality ASP hosting companies do not set up their servers that way and it can often be difficult to get things running as it is a more complex setup on their end. Meaning if they dont synchronize the IUSR_machine accounts correctly you'll have permission issues.
