I down loaded your latest ASPProtect.NET_v1.4 and now when i try to get in the admin area it won't let me in. The admin box is selected in the database under the admin user and i can update my user information (password and Address, not username). Is there something that was changed on this version or is it more likely user error on my part? What do you think i should try first?, actually I just went to it again and it was somewhat slow coming up this time..
perhaps you have some issues with the sql database.

A mod like this would improve tracking by leaps and bounds.
Do you think this addon would be availalbe anytime in the near future? If/when this feature or mod becomes availalbe, it certainly would be ideal if some script was made to import all the log file data.
, I recently upgraded my ASPclassifieds from MS Access to SQL. The application launches, I can browse existing catagories, etc. but when I try clicking on the login, guestbook, register or accessing the classifieds_admin, I get the HTTP 500 - Internal server error. Guessing this must be a folder or file permission issue? Have tried changing IUSR permissions but nothing helps.
Please advise.

, We want to insert a hyperlink i the mesage area when we e-mail users from the Password Admin area. Is ther an easy way to insert the hyperlink so when the user gets the e-mail, they can just click on it and go the the page we want them to?

Changing them though may involve changes to the code recompiling, etc etc... it is not something I support.

What upload component/method are you using ?
Are you using an image resizing component ?
Have permissions been set on the import folder ?
And lastly..
Can I see this happening ?
If not please put it on a live server where I can troubleshoot it for you.

In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine. We also may require access to your server in order to troubleshoot any issues.

, i took another look at the file, and realized that when i was looking at the data structure i had confused "banner_image_URL" with "banner_link_URL". i lengthened the latter, and now all is good.

, Your SQL statement to the database is the key.
You want to change the sortby hyperlink on that page so that it will in turn change the dynamic sql statement to sort the way you want
Find
?SORTBY=Date_Created
change it to
?SORTBY=Date_Created+ASC
or maybe
?SORTBY=Date_Created+DESC
One of them is the default anyway, but I cant remember which is which off hand so just try them both till you get the desired result
near the top you can also change the default sortby when thet page is loaded
SORTBY = Request("SORTBY")
If SORTBY = "" Then
SORTBY = "Name"
End If
there you would use a space though.. not a "+" sign when adding the ASC or DESC
The + sign is only used in the hyperlinks because it means a space for browsers that can't deal with spaces in links
cwilliams38406.6011458333, This user has notified me that the issue has been resolved based on what I told him., I just upgraded from 6.0 to 7.0 primarily because we were limited in the choices of email systems we could use to send an email validation message.
Previously, with 6.0, we were using CDONTS to send an email validation message to new registrants. Unfortunately, AOL email addressee's were not receiving the vaildation email from us. I received a reply to another post I made on this forum that the problem was due to the fact that aCDONTS generated email has no MX record and AOL blocks non-MX record containing emails.
Well, I upgraded to 7.0, switched to CDOSYS (Using SMTP Virtual Server) with SMTP Authentication and it appears that AOL is still blocking the validation email.
Any suggestions, comments?

Best setup I recomend is just setting up a rig and making a workgroup.
No real reason for a production machine to have any access to internal
security when you think about it.
classic asp should be pretty easy to move, just set up new webs and
dump the scripts in there. If you have 2 machines its always easier to
look at the one while your building the other. Basically copy the setup
and tada... the only thing you might need to remeber is components (if
your using any) and thats usually not a very big deal either.
Point sort of being at some point your going to have to change that
thing around and while its no fun you have to imagine now is a better
time to bite the bullet and get it set up the right way. Your
alternative is to mess around for hours and hours praying that you
change domain wide security to the point that running NET
apps on that domain controller works. Personally I wouldnt sleep well
knowing I had just messed around so bad with the OS that I had no clue
what bugs and security holes I might have accidently opened in the
process. I wont even get into the possible things that might stop
working on the rest of the domain if you fiddle with accounts like
"Network Service"
Oh and if thats not enough reason to make you think about it, consider
how hard it will be to try and rember what you did at 2AM 6 months from
now if that machine takes a dive or some critical update undoes what
you changed.
I feel for you though, trust me we have all been down that road once or
twice. Get some sleep and in the AM the task at hand wont seem nearly
as bad. You live and you learn, and you will definatly be WAY better
off making things right sooner than later
, That was wrong of me but not what I meant. It seems as soon as I purchase something like this it doesn't work right and it can't be altered to work with what I have. The support ends up sucking or being none. Listen I’ve gone thru you're product and it's wonderful and does exactly what you say it does so that's a relief. The import data routine is most likely the source of the trouble
For troubleshooting sake I would create a fresh installation from scratch using the sql script we provide and a new SQL user. Then see if that works. If it does then try to import your data into that.
There are no other things I can think of doing. Sometimes you just have to start with a clean slate. ,

you also need to use newer versions of the database as the odbc drivers on the server are sometimes very new and no longer work with access 97 databases

, and when I go to your now.. its very fast again.., I have been using the AspHttp Component method for displaying my ads along with the google adsense code. However, in the last few days my site was taking too long to load, so I replaced the AspHttp component, with Javascript method. The site was back to speed. But now, the Google Adsense banners do not show up. Is there a solution for that? Can the Javascript show Adsense banners also? Because they do show the Flash banners., Thanks Chris.

, you can whatever you like but like I said those gif files are already in the correct place. The log parser is messing up. , I just purchased the software and it looks great however, I have been fighting for 4 hours trying to get a protected page to do what it is supposed to.
I was trying the examples you provided and they worked fine, then I would use the code at the top of my pages with no luck.
When I installed the software, I used an FTP package as I have found lately that anything with a database gets all messed up when I publish with FP.
On a whim, I took the page I was publishing in FP and published the same page with my FTP program. It worked! What I can't figure out is what FP does to the files to screw them up so they won't function. Is there a setting in FP that I have to change to get it to work? The files look the same, but they are different sizes when I overwrite them with FTP.
Any ideas? I don't want to have to publish my entire site with FTP as it is a FP template site.

, ok, I got it all sorted out for you and aspupload seems to be working now.
Basically they seem to have an odd version of it installed and I had to tweak the code a little. I also uploaded the server info page in the admin area to test for it.
Just back up the gallery folder so you have a backup copy of the modified code.

, there is no straight answer to a question like that..
I think my code is very easy to figure out and work with...
What your asking all depends on your skills and also what sort of payment processing system/merchant account you go with and what sort of ASP example code they provide you, Haven't gotten to it yet. I do know there are a few customers using it to edit the app and said it was not all that different. Maybe they will chime in with some tips., its one or the other... you cant protect upload.asp at the same time if upload.asp is included in another page..
I mean sure you can protect upload.asp from running when another page calls it by password protecting the page calling it.
And sure you can protect upload.asp by itself if it also runs all by itself. But you can not include the "check_user_inc.asp" more than once in any order of execution scenario. That includes pages being included.
Generally anytime a page is included in another that included page is not meant to run by itself and wouldn't produce any outcome if run by itself so this would never be an issue.
if you don't want "upload.asp" to ever be run by itself in that scenario put it somewhere in your web site that is not web browser accessible.
I would also suggest you look into using Virtual includes. It will save you a lot of time figuring out this sort of thing "../../../../../" becuase once you figure out the virtual include path you can use the same server side include from any directory level.

, I have ASPProtect up and running and I was able to log in with little to now problem after following all of the directions.
I imported my data base of users (approx 5300) into the access db, and now it times out just letting me log in.
I've got full access to the web server to make any changes on that end that I need.
any ideas?

The "users" folder allows users to sign themselves up and edit there accounts as well as retrieve lost passwords..
In the settings tab of the ASPProtect admin area there are options for which fields are used and which are mandatory when a user signs up. The only validation the system performs by default is checking for mandatory status. If you want to add more validation so reduce the chances of input errors that is up to you.
You can add additional server side validation by doing server side checks on the save pages... you can also make the field sizes larger in the database if you think you need to. You'll need to be good with ASP to do this.
Always backup your files before making changes to them so that you can revert back to a working copy if you mess something up.
, When using the paypal subscription feature with ASPProtect for a new user the expiration in ASPProtect is actually not used. It is set to Null. This is because the PayPal system takes care of everything on their end.
So I can't see this happening because that field is not supposed to be used and the default PayPal subscription code we provide with the system does not populate that field.
Unless you populated the expiration date field on your own ?
Now that I re-read your post. The ASPProtect 6 reference was confusing me.
Now, if you have users that were never on a PayPal subscription that then sign up via PayPal subscriptiion that may indeed be a different story.
Is that what you are saying? I am looking at the code right now and it seems to me like it sets the expration date field to null on any new subscription activity regardless.
Let's forget about ASPProtect 6 as I don't think that matters. Please explain exactly when this happens and does not happen and exactly what sort of user we are talking and what their expiration dates are set at before they sign up for a paypal subscription.
