Honestly cannot comment much about v7 since it was just installed on a new server. We have been running 5.03 for years so I'm looking forward to the new features in v7.
Lance , Is there a way to protect other virtual sites on the server that are not under the default web site considering people may have different websites running off one server? I get the following error:

hi,
no.., not unless you come up with some clever way to handle it on your own http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=369&KW =https read 2nd to last post
The way ASPProtect ships it is designed to either be in http:// the whole time or https:// the whole time.... (there curently is no solution from me allowing going from one to the other)
sorry
, Hi-
Thanks for the quick response to my previous posts.
This is my issue:
I have read over all the docs and installation instructions and can't find a way to do this:
my default page in my root dir will be a log in page which will take the user once his level is validated to a "home page". Is there a page in your examples that will perform the function of this log in page? or should I rename check_user_inc.asp as the default and change it's html output to make it look like my log in page?
I also looked within the code for check_user_inc.asp and did not see where to specify where the user will go once he signs in.
Your help is appreciated , Upgrade from V6 to v7.x with an MSACCESS DATABASE
1st of all, backup your existing ASPProtect files and database before performing this upgrade. Please be really careful while performing this upgrade. Version 7.x is a highly advanced application compared to any previous versions. CJWSoft under no circumstances is responsible if you lose information or have website downtime.
BOTTOM LINE: (PERFORM THIS UPGRADE AT YOUR OWN RISK)
To do this upgrade you're going to need to have the Microsoft Access Application. To work with an Access .mdb file it can not be newer than the version of Microsoft Access you are running.
That being said, on with the upgrade..
Open you're existing Acccess Database up in Microsoft Access.. You should see this something like this.

By right clicking on then choosing rename Rename "Users" to "ASPP_Users" Rename "Groups" to "ASPP_Groups"
If you do not have a "Groups" table do not worry about it right now.
Now right click and DELETE the Config Table. Yes, delete it..
You should now see this. (with or without the "Groups" table)

Now, right click on "ASPP_Users" and go into design view. It should look like this.

Rename the "Password" field to "Old_Password" Be sure to spell it perfectly using the Underscore It will look like this.

Now scroll down to the bottom a bit It should look like this.

Now..
If you have a "Groups" Field... leave it alone If you do not have a "Groups" Field add one and make it a memo field.
Now, we are going to add a few more new fields.
Add a field called "Redirection_URL" make it a "text" field with 150 field size Add a field called "PayPal_Subscriber_ID" make it a "text" field with 100 field size Add a field called "Newsletter" and make it a yes/no field Add a field called "Password" and make it a "text" field with 100 field size
It should now look like this. (you do not need to worry about the field descriptions.. that part is optional and only seen when working on the database)

Now close that window and save the changes..
Your now going to open up another Access Database while still leaving the one you have on your screen open. You going to open up one of the new databases that came with v7.x. This database has some info we are simply going to copy and paste.
You'll want to open it and put it side by side on your desktop like so. (the old database is on the left.. the new one is on the right)

Now, for the fun part.
On the new database to the right.. right click on the "ASPP_Config" table and pick "Copy"
Then move your mouse over to the old database on the left. Right click in the open white area and click "paste"
It will ask you for a database name. Type in "ASPP_Config" Leave "Structure and Data" checked and hit OK
Your old database on the left should now have a nice new "ASPP_Config" table.
OK, now for the "ASPP_Groups" table
If you already have a "ASPP_Groups" table in your old database you are done.
If you do not have one your going to copy and paste the table from the New Database to your old database just like we just did with the "ASPP_config" table.
Your old database should now look like this.

Now, you are done upgrading your database from within Microsoft Access.
The existing passwords still have to be encrytped and moved from the "Old_Password" to the "Password" field
To that we have a special page we run in the application that will take care of that.
So, for now... go install the application, but using the database we just created. Follow these instructions for the most part... http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=181& ; ;PN=1
When you get to the part where you finally get into the admin area and need to make an admin account you will notice that your existing user database is there but none of the users have passwords if you look at them in the edit screen.
That is normal. Simply do what the instructions say and create and admin account using a username that does not exist..
Then log off... then back in as that new admin account. If that works you are ready to convert the passwords.
This part is very easy.
You want to run a special page via the browser.
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/convert_to_encrypted.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
Once you get the page running you will see a login prompt and one form field just like before with the "get_me_in.asp" page
You will need to paste the "PasswordEncryptionKey" value that you used in the "config_inc.asp" file in the form field and hit enter.
If all goes well you will see a page telling you to click here to encrypt the passwords and copy them over.
So do what it says... dont click more than once and wait.
Eventually it should say it is finished. So go log in to the admin area of the system using the new admin account.
Now edit some users but dont save... you want to see if the passwords are showing up. If they are the conversion worked. If you see nothing or a garbled mess it did not work and you made a mistake during this whole process.
If things went well backup and delete the conversion file below.
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/convert_to_encrypted.asp
You do not need it anymore.
Once you are positive every thing is running smoothly and everyone's passwords are ok you can go in and delete the "Old_Password" field as well.
If things didnt go well.. try again from scratch and go slowly. If they still dont go well get ahold of us for help.
We are here to help, but if you really want us to we can be hired to do the conversion. , One is for paypal subscriptions (recurring billing) and the other is for single payments
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=185& ; ; ;PN=1
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=186& ; ; ;PN=1
You can delete any of the 3rd party payment directories you are not using including the the 2checkout one... (all those folders really are is a copy of the users folder specially modified to handle a certain payment processor)
Just Don't delete the "users" folder though as there are things you do there that you can not do anywhere else.. quite a few things.. editing existing account info, looking up passwords... etc etc
cwilliams38446.6055555556, Sorry, not really.. not without a lot of changes to the code. the recent activity info recycles.. it is not meant to be day by day
My suggestion there would be to look at both the log files and the user activty screens...
, Please forgive my question in advance, I'm sure I've overlooked the answer somewhere obvious. I'm sorry!
I'm wondering if it is possible to customize the appearance of the
banner stats login page or the admin pages. I'd really like the
banner stats pages to look more like my own site or at least have my
logo on there or something like that so that my advertisers can see
that it is my site when checking their stats. However, I want to
do this without violating copyright, etc.
Can someone point me in the right direction or shut down my hope?
Thanks!
Laura
, How to set a new users expiration date.
You'll need to edit the "users/add_new_account.asp" with a text editor.
Find this section..
<% CmdAddUser.Fields("ValidateEmailCode") = ValidateEmailCode CmdAddUser.Fields("Access_Level") = "4" ' PUT YOUR CODE HERE CmdAdduser.Update ID = CmdAdduser("ID") CmdAdduser.Close Set CmdAdduser = Nothing ConnPasswords.Close Set ConnPasswords = Nothing %>
You'll want to add code like this right between the Acccess_Level and Updates section
CmdAddUser.Fields("Expiration_Date") = Date + 60
That will give take todays date and add 60 days to it. You can of course do whatever you want here.
Actually, any database value for the user can be set during registration.
You can also change the default Access_Level to whatever you like.
cwilliams38088.4986689815, A very common and extremely bothersome error encountered when running ASP apps that connect to a database is the "80004005" error. It comes in many varieties.
These articles cover it.

cwilliams38102.4447222222, I am also getting the "Unspecified Error" message. I just transferred my site to IIS 5.0 and I get that error now. However it does not happen everytime. I can click on a page and it opens fine and then I hit refresh in the browser and I get the "Unspecified Error" message. What could be causing this?
, just leave the databse where it is, use the connection string generated for you and most importantly... put in a request with alentus for permissions to be set
tell them "D:\Websites\www.mysite.com\aspprotect\data" and all of its child folders need change permissions (r,w,x,d) set so aspprotect can do its thing
until the permissions are set that connection string can not work
this is all noted in the installation docs... , In addition to that I just noticed the </href> you have in there.. man that is some scary stuff you came up with.. that may appear to work and make a link but it is not correct. Each link will work but never truly be closed.
That is just not valid proper use of the anchor tag. You make a link in html like so
<a href = "somepage.htm">somepage.htm</a> http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_a.asp
Then your surrounding each link with <span lang="en-us"> </span> Not sure why ? , If it stopped working it has nothing to do with the ASP code. YIf could have stopped for any number of reasons as hosts often change email server requirements and info. You need to go over the email settings. Of course make sure you and the person you are sending to have valid email addresses and try different methods/settings until you get emailing to work again.
Testing it by sending emails off from the users screen.. in each email type in what you are trying at that time so you know what worked if emails make it through. Also, be sure to check junk filters when testing to make sure the emails are not being put in any of those.
That's what I would do. CDOSYS is always your best bet for sending emails as it has so many options and all new server support it. , actually I just went to it again and it was somewhat slow coming up this time..
perhaps you have some issues with the sql database.
it should be instant.. like this one I run on my server http://banserver.powerasp.com/aspbanner/
I suppose it could also have something to do with sql server resources but its hard to say..
cwilliams38319.7859722222, Version 8.1 can work with MySQL http://www.aspbanner.com/aspbanunlimited_v8.asp It is just not supported at all.
The standard version can not work with MySQL. There were a lot of changes to make the new version work with it and I really only did ift because I have a couple friends with busy sites that could only use MySQL.
It sounds like your site is way too busy for using an access database as you mentioned. , You shouldn't be renaming or moving anything... unless you really really understand what you are doing and are at an expert level expert as far as ASP coding goes.
like I said earlier.. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=354&ge t=last#1130
redirecting with version 6 is not supported but this thread tells you exactly how to set it up (I showed you this thread in an that earlier post)
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=17&KW= redirect
This thread below may also help in case the page you want to start on with a login form should not be password protected..
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo18-2.htm , Thanks, I know, I have it all figured out and have thought about it before. Just no time yet to do it. It will probably be an add-on/mod when I get time. , while technically that shouldnt be showing that with two slashes that is actually valid and will not effect whether that feature works or not.
so if you are getting an error that is not the reason.. as far as windows is concerned // is the same as slash in that scenario?
what is your error? I need details. Like some code and an error at a line number ?
99% of the time it is permissions and sometimes it is related to the filesystem object being disabled on the server or script blocking software such as norton antivirus , I just moved servers and now my "code" ads are giving me errors...
"google_ad_width" is undefined.
I have tried adding the width and height... taking it out.. all the basic stuff.
Any ideas?
TIA , enjoy the bar.. drink one for me.. cause that was the problem..
, hi,
Sounds like permissions.. the text file that the config file data is not being written to.
open the file "data/config/aspbanner_unlimited_config.asp" with a text editor and see if your values are getting saved.. if they are not its permissions to that folder and file as far as not saving config settings goes.
You may also want to check out "data/show_path_info.asp" which if run from the browser has info on manual/alternate setup scenarios.. as far as what directories you put things in and also editing the config file manually.
lastly make sure the filesystem object is not disabled by something like norton script blovking or something similar which can also cause trouble regarding writing to text files.
, Ok.. glad you got it working., Thanks for the install. After many hours I finally got part of the
system working. I can log in and log out as a user. My problem is I
want the pages
accesses by Members ONly. The database will contain the names of
the members and only they are allowed access, and no one else. I
tried Joe Blow to log in and it worked, the only thing is Joe was not
in the database and he should have been locked out and a page come us
saying something like "you are not a registered user, please complete
the membership application" and then link back to the root web,
application page.
I am also afraid of breaking the codes you provided thus far. I also
want the password protected pages in a sub-web of the root web.
This may sound like elementary stuff, but this newbie is having
constant trouble. I am also referencing books on ASP and Access
and VB and still come up with a dead end. Search the net and come up
with a few codes which are described as something I am looking for, but
dont want to add any thing like that for fear of breaking the whole
thing.
Any suggestions?
, Why all the pages at the directory .../password_admin/ are very slow to open online? vaghelis38300.5280208333, Hi,
I wanted to see if you had any suggestions for converting from Access to SQL sever database. I attempted this earlier today performing the following steps.
1) Create SQL Tables using Enterprise Manager / SQL Scripts 2) Use DTS to move all of the existing table data to the sql tables. 3) Update dataconn_inc.asp to use SQL and the required connection string.
When these steps were complete I was able to login to ASPProtect as an admin and search / find both groups and users. However, any attempt to edit or create users resulted in a "the page ... had a problem ... " type problem. It seems that I can read from the db fine but and getting errors writing to the tables. The user id that is being used to connect to the db is the [dbo].
Any additional hints for this procedure?
Thanks
Darrell , "I can login for the first time."
when you say that what exactly does that mean, because in this version you do not just log in for the 1st time.
What I am saying is there are steps where you run a special page to intially get into the system, then you setup a new user, then you make them an admin, and then you can log in as them.
You left all of that out of your story...
I really need all details in order to help.. is this an upgrade or a new install, etc etc etc
I would also advise very carefully comparing the fields in your sql database to the sql creation scripts to make sure all the field settings are correct.
Lastly, please tell me what name/email you ordered the product under so I can check your purchase.
Thanks,
I can no longer send e-mails to my configured accounts through aspbanner. It was working for over a year and now it stopped.
At one point I was using CDONTS_Installed but since I moved to a new Windows 2003 server I was told by my ISP that either one of these will work
but neither one works. Can some one assist?
JMAIL_Installed
ASPEMAIL_Installed , Thankyou, that was very helpful, its no different than linking to an image or another page. you have to adjust the path to the include file based on what directory you are in.. or you get an error
This is noted in the admin area on the code generator page which also gives you 2 examples of ways of calling the server side include. (Virtual or File include)
These threads below are also full of info. I found them by doing a quick search and they should help you out as well.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=349&KW =The+include+file
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=303&KW =The+include+file
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=236&KW =The+include+file , Yea.. that error is totally because the asp pages are looking for fields in the database that are not there.. and causing a nasty loop.
if using the option pack you must go over the directions very carefully... Make sure everything works step by step..
After upgrading to option pack code you either need to upgrade the database from the base system or use the newer database provided with the option pack.
Then.. you want to test every function of the groups.. if pages act slow and seem odd... especially the groups page and edit users page.. Then your not using a valid database. Either you didnt upgrade the old one, are not using the new one, or your connecting to an older verison by accident and not realizing it.
That's pretty much it... cwilliams38300.5555671296, I am trying to import a file, and I get this error:
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a03f9'
Expected 'Then'
/aspprotect/password_admin/upload_post.asp, line 6 If Session("Admin") <> "True"
-----------------------------^ Any suggestions on how to fix it? Thank you. ,
Hi Chris,
Alright. We figured out how to work with both C# and VB, by creating a separate VB web project in VStudio, and then passing the aspprotectnet.dll to the C# project.
Ok. I have another question:
How can our code determine the identity and user_id of the currently logged in user:
Is it Session["User_ID"].ToString() and Session["Username"].ToString()?
thank you
, No, because ASPProtect.NET is licensed per and only runs in One website (one iis application)
That error however probably has more to do with parent paths being disabled on the server., If you re-start the web via IIS, reboot the server, or (possibly) just add and remove a category... that will clear up.
ASPClassifieds and ASPListings must be installed in seperate IIS applications if they are the same web. Otherwise the category caching system of each system will interfere with each other. They were never intended to be installed in the same web together since ASPListings is merely a stripped down version of ASPClassifieds and they share a lot of the same code. Like I said though if different IIS applications are set up in the web site you can do it because each IIS application will have it's own set of application and session variables. , I had both ASP Listings & Classified on the same website. The categories seem to be getting mixed up. I removed ASP Classified but classfieds categories is still appearing in the student of ASP Listing.
How do I fix this?
Thanks , ok, now were getting somewhere
I didn't know you imported from another system,
chances are you are missing field information that an ASPProtect user requires.
Start off from scratch with a new aspprotect database... create a new user and look at the info that gets entered by default for every field in the database
make sure when you import a user that you mimic it all
dont import directly using access because the passwords will not get converted to encrypted versions of themselves correctly.. and the whole process will be usesless as no passwords will be correct
Use the import feature built into ASPProtect.. because it is smart enough to take the clear text passwords and encrypt them accordingly
if you want to know a correctly formatted import file needs to look like make one and check it out
do one user at a time and make sure you can log in to an example protected page till you get it right...
once you get that working do them all
Thats really the best advice I can give you. , ok, 1st we need to rule out the #1 reason people sometimes think that is not working.
Is is set up never to allow the same IP to increment the count more than once in a row so when testing it is real easy to think the count isn't working because unless you can change your ip you can not increment the count more than once per album
It's a poor mans spam abuse type of deal.. For the most part it will keep some Joker from hitting refresh 100 times and inflating the count of an album.
Do you think that is possible what is happening ?
Also, here is an older thread about the same issue? http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo54-2.htm , That's exactly what it was.
The site owner couldn't see their own ads because Norton was blocking anything with the word ad in it.
On another note: I changed the word 'ad' to 'listing' and got it to show even with Norton.
, that erorr in no way means what it says.. it is just a generic error because something failed.
if you want to PM me info on how to get into your site and I will take a look.. I don't think it is something that can be figured out otherwise especially when you are not telling much about what is going on. There are a lot of factors and settings that are relevant. ,
