Ok, I was not aware of this domain controller issue as I have never had a customer have their web server set up that way. It is not a common situation under commercial hosting, thats for sure.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;3151 58
seems it was some sort of bug that was corrected in the the 1.1 .NET framework involving no ASPNET account being created. seems there are lots of work arounds involving making new accounts and editing machine config files. I found quite a few google articles as well.
http://www.kbalertz.com/kb_315158.aspx
http://www.15seconds.com/issue/030115.htm
I actually should have said "the framework installed" not "asp.net"
So, in the meantime I am asking John Evans what he thinks about this and I am going to ask you what version of the framework you have installed ? ASP.NET Framework 2.0 is the newest and you definetely should be running at least version 1.1 and probably should upgrade to 2.0.
I do not know why other ASP.NET code you have works ok. Your other code may not be using the odbc driver dll the same way ASPProtect.NET does. There are lots of possible reasons. At the end of the day I think the basic issue here is still a low level configuration/permissions issue and it can be corrected from what I am reading. It just may require a bit of trial and error regarding local and domain accounts and editing the machine config files... etc etc , Chris,
D'oh! How completely obvious!
I got it now. (In Step 4, by the way, you need to click on the web site, not the directory. The directory has its own Properties menu, which is competely different than the Properties menu for the web site.)
Thanks for the fast response!
Robert
,
thanks for posting this... Since "private" is the default setting from what I read and setting it to "public" cured the issue chances are leaving it at "public" is the way to go.

ALSO: since you are one the few people that has ever contributed anything helpful to the forums I am going to reward you with a free copy of the password expiration mod. I am sending you a PM with the download info. , I have no idea of what kind of 'stuff' to try. I'm running other asp apps that use there own Access databases with no problem whatsoever., If you want to have a login form on a non protected page that posts to a protected ".asp" page use code like this.
Change the action of the form to the page you want them to log into. Make sure to page you send them to is protected by the "check_user_inc.asp" file.
<center> <table border="0" width="400" height="200" bgcolor="#000000"> <tr> <td bgcolor="#F4F4F4"> <form method="POST" action="memberarea.asp"> <input type="hidden" name="Status" value="Checkem"> <p align="center"><font face="Arial">ASPProtect Login</font></p> <div align="center"> <center> <table border="0" bgcolor="#C0C0C0"> <tr> <td bgcolor="#EBEBEB"><strong><small><font face="Arial">Username</font></small></stro ng></td> <td><input type="text" name="Username" size="10"></td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#EBEBEB"><strong><small><font face="Arial">Password</font></small></stro ng></td> <td><input type="Password" name="Password" size="10"></td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#EBEBEB" colspan="2"><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size="-1"><input type="checkbox" name="KEEPMESIGNEDIN" value="True">Keep me signed in on this computer unless I log off.</font></td> </tr> </table> </center> </div> <div align="center"> <center> <p> <input type="submit" value="Login"></p> </center> </div> </form> </td> </tr> </table> </center> , Hello-
I'd like to set up the system to redirect to a landing page (say home1) after the user logs in.
I have looked at all the documentation and can't find something that explains how to do this. I am thinking that I can set up a log in as the default in my root directory that will have a form with an action=check_user_inc.asp. I have looked at the code there but cannot find a place where I would place a redirect to home1.
Help please
Thanks , I wouldn't bother doing that. If pic uplading doesn't work it is most likely permissions to the directory pictures are uploaded to. If they are not set correctly it will not work. That dir needs the same permissions the database folder needs. , Hi,
I only just purchased the product and I would be very keen to
a) is the upgrade available very soon as I don't want to spend the time developing one and than find the other released shortly &
b) would I only need to pay the difference for the upgrade or have I already downloaded the upgrade already.
I cant see what version I current have.
I look forward to your response. ripcurlsurf38138.816099537, ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Operation must use an updateable query.

I am getting this error message when trying to log in as admin or registering a new user. I am using Windows Server 2003 and it is a DOMAIN CONTROLLER.
I have read that there is NO ASPNET account for a domain controller. In its place is the IIS_WPG account. I have given this account and the IUSR account FULL CONTROL.
STILL GETTING AN ERROR. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? , Hello:
When using the Mass Mail feature and selecting the Users to ‘Active’ and the Access Level I want to send to the system will still send e-mails to the ‘Inactive’ users from the same Access Level.
In other words it sends to everyone in the Access Level regardless if you choose “Active” only.
Any ideas to correct?
Thanks,
-Ricardo , <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% Response.Write(Session("Groups")) %> , Just to let you know that i figured out my problem. I had to modify the connection in the email code and get the correct path from my provider.
I hope you enjoyed your vacation.
Thank you Adam , As I'd said in my previous response, I found those databases and they didn't work. All three databases in asptest do work., Login failed for user 'aspgallery'.
Okay, shouldn't this be trying to use aspgalleryuser?

cwilliams38325.8848263889, download the free version...
check out this tutorial... http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo169-1.htm
If your application can post to the page and provide all the form variables needed to log in it may work out for you..
You'll have to try it out... all the form variables needed are in that login form example.
Basically you'd be posting to a protected (.asp) page.. and providing the following for the most part.. how your app creates it post data is on your end...
<input type="hidden" name="Status" value="Checkem"> <input type="text" name="Username" value="Yourusername"> <input type="Password" name="Password" value="YourPassword">
As an alternate scenario...
Now, by default the "check_user_inc.asp" file is looking for posted form data... for security reasons it is not looking for querystring info..
If you change this bit of code in that file
from
Username = Replace(Request.Form("Username"),"'","''") Password = Request.Form("Password")
to
Username = Replace(Request("Username"),"'","''") Password = Request("Password")
It will then grab either form or querystring data...
Meaning you wouldn't necessary have to create a true post to the page with form data. You could just access the page via a querysting like so
http://www.mysite.com/somepage.asp?Status=Checkem&Userna me=Yourusername&Password=Yourpassword
Of course that introduces security risks as the username and password would be passed in plain text over the net
Another option is... You can also make a copy of the "check_user_inc.asp" page called whatever with those modifications just to use in pages you need your little application to post to... thus reducing the security concerns a a bit as the rest of yoru site could still have its pages protected under the normal scenario.
I hope this answers your question... I havent really ever tried any of this but that is how I think it would work... , It is most likely because they have something running like Norton Ad Blocker.
Or something of that nature that blocks anything with certain words in it like "ad"
They are running something that is doing it.cwilliams38450.0079282407, Editing using Visual Studio.NET
Here are directions for editing the application using Visual Studio.NET 2002 or 2003 version.. either should work
Some of you are wondering why I didnt just give you the project files. It is best you go through this process and really understand what is going on. Also, I dont use VS 2002 so I wouldnt be able to give you project files that would work with that. Not to mention there is 100% chance my prject files wouldn't work for you anyway because of path differences and other things.
Anyway.. on with the instructions...
1st.. make sure IIS, ASP.NET, .NET Framework, and Visual Studio.NET are all installed correctly and up to date.
Open Visual Studio.NET
File - New Project
Select a New Visual Basic ASP.NET web application.
give the new web to be created a name.. I called mine "aspprotectdotnet"

Hit Ok..
Now. once the project opens up we need to delete a few things in the solution explorer window.
So delete "webform1.aspx" , "deletestyles.css", "Global.asax", "AssemblyInfo.vb", and "web.config"
Basically all the files under the project...
Now... you should have the aspprotect.net files unzipped somewhere on you hard drive...
open that folder and select all the files and folders like so

Now drag those selected files and folders to the solution explorer window of Visual Studio.NET right on to the name of the web. In my case "aspprotectdotnet"
It might say this folder already contains a folder names Bins.. just tell it to copy over and continue on any prompts like that.
You'll notice your project is now populated.
Open up the references tab in the solution explorer window as we need to add some references to the dlls in the bin folder of this project. This is needed so the compile process and function correctly.
Right click on references.. click add reference Then browse....browse on your hard drive to the location of the new web and the bin folder within it.
In my case... "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectnet\bin"
Choose "aspprotectlicense.dll"
Hit open...
Now do the same thing again until you have added all the dlls in that bin folder to the references..
Now.. click add-references again and this time choose "system.management" from the choices in the .NET tab
Once all of that is done your references should look like this

Now in the Visual Studio.NET menu system up top..
Choose Build - Build Solution
If you did everything right you will see something like this in the build window
------ Build started: Project: aspprotectdotnet, Configuration: Debug .NET ------
Preparing resources... Updating references... Performing main compilation... Building satellite assemblies...
---------------------- Done ----------------------
Build: 1 succeeded, 0 failed, 0 skipped
You now have the visual studio side of things all set up.
To make the project actually run we now have to set some permissions and edit the web.config file.
Using windows explorer browse to the web the app is in. Right click on the "_database" folder and give that folder and all the child folders within it. Modify permissions for both the Anonymous webserver account and the ASPNET account. These accounts might not show up until you dig into the advanced tab and click find now to show all the accounts on the machine.
Permissions screen looks like this...

Once that is done go back the solution explorer window in visual studio.
Open the docs folder.. right click on "sysdiag.aspx" and choose view in browser.
It should complie the project again.. and then run that page in either the internal or external browser depending on how you have that set up.
That page will report back path information. "BTW.. for security reasons this page should be removed from any production server after installation is complete.. this is very important" In my case it looks like this.
Probabale AppRootPhysicalPath c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet
Probabale AppRootUrlPath http://localhost/aspprotectdotnet
Probabale Path to Access Database c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet\_database\aspprotectnet2 002.mdb
Now we need to edit the web.config file... your going to need to know some of the path information above.
In solution explorer double click on web.config.
Now edit the AppRootPhysicalPath, AppRootUrlPath, and CN keys accordingly.
In my case they will look like this.
<!-- PATHS USED BY THE SYSTEM --> <add key="AppRootPhysicalPath" value="c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet" /> <add key="AppRootUrlPath" value="http://localhost/aspprotectdotnet" />
<!-- MICROSOFT ACCESS KEY --> <add key="Cn" value="Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq= c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet\_database\aspprotectnet2 002.mdb;Uid=admin;Pwd=" />
Now.. because our web is really not in the root of our virtual directory which starts at "inetpub/wwwroot" we need to edit another tag in this file.
Find the forms tag near the bottom.
<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" />
Change it to say this
<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectdotnet/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" />
Notice tha part in bold that we added.
Now, you may also want to check the temp license key info while you are in that file and make sure it is not expired but I am not going to get into that here.
Now save and close that file and do a compile again.
In solution explorer open up the "aspprotectadmin" folder. Right click on default.aspx and click browse
You should see the login prompt in your web browser..
Log in with
admin temp
all lower case
You should see the users screen of the application,
Click on the system info tab up in the top left... make sure all those paths are correct and save it.
Go to the settings page of the admin area. Make sure all those paths/settings are correct and save it.
Congratulations... you just set up a visual studio web project from scratch and our now ready to edit and compile an advanced web application.
From here on your on your own, but feel free to ask questions in the forums as you will probably get help from myself or others who own the software.
One last thing... because we are not in the true root of the web on the development machine the examples in the example folder will need the reference to the "protectpage.ascx" file modified before they will work
It will need to go from
Src="/protectpage.ascx"
to
Src="/aspprotectdotnet/protectpage.ascx"
If this app was installed in the true root of a domain on a real webserver.. you would not have to edit the forms tag in the web config file or change the paths in the examples as they would be correct the way they came , ummm.. ok.. Then this doesnt make sense. On two out of the three machines I have in house here, the images do not show up. They only show up on the server machine. I am using the constant url on all three machines. www.rfamilystuff.com Does it show up on your?
, humm.. can I possibly see this happening ? any changes to that part of the code ?
,
I was told by my ISP to use localhost and it should work and it does not. It does not require authentication to send e-mails.
Any other ideas?
Thanks , Banners no longer show up on my site ?
If banners were working fine and now they are just not showing up. 1st check to see that you are calling a valid zone with live banners in it. If you are then most likely this it what hapened.
The web server must have crashed or lost power and now the application variables are in limbo/not working.
I have seen this happen 3 times. Twice on my own server when the power went out for 2 hours and once on a customers server.
Basically the application variable system gets all messed up because it was not shut down properlly.
The ways to possibly cure it are as follows.
Edit and save a banner in the system. Hopefully that gets things going again. If not... keep reading for the more drastic cures..
Go to the command prompt on the server and type "iisreset" Sometimes that is enough.
Reboot the server. Sometimes that is enough.
Stop the web in the IIS console. Sometimes that is enough.
Stop the individual processes for each web in iis "you must really know what you doing and be very careful about doing this"
Remove and recreate new applications in IIS for the web in question.
And sometimes it just takes a combination of the things listed above and a few reboots. I don't know the best way to cure it but I do know why it happens and the steps listed above can get things back on track.
Again, this is because the server lost power or crashed as far as I know. It was not allowed to shut down properly which sometimes happens.
You'll know things are ok again when you see your banners show up on your site. cwilliams38295.0183101852, Than you
I'm happy after changing to XML parser for two of the ads. Later I'll change the other codes to XML, never to use iframe again! , Lastly, I put there information here to help, but please don't ask me any questions about it.
I am not microsoft SQL server support. If this doesn't work for you simply start troubleshooting and doing google searches like I do. , I would also double check that you changed the field size correctly and on the correct database that is being used in the connection string
, Okay, here's the problem. The out of the box sql script creates a catalog called aspphotogallery and a user id aspphotogalleryuser.
The out of the box GalleryConnectionString tries to access a catalog called aspgallery and a user id aspgallery
'*** GalleryConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=p600laptop;Initial Catalog=aspgallery;User Id=aspgallery;Password=temp;"
I see the readme.txt has been corrected but the line in dataconn_inc.asp still needs to be changed. lancem38325.9032986111, Okay, I'm going nuts trying to find that settings screen.
I've got a dedicated server that I connect to using "Remote Desktop
Connection" so it looks like a regular Windows desktop. It's running
Windows Server 2003.
There's a program called "IIS Manager" but I've looked at all the
options for all the different sections and I don't find anything that
looks even remotely like that screen. And, of course, Windows
Help is no help at all.
What program do I run to get to that configuration screen?
Thanks,
Robert Gidley
, We are using this photo gallery to manage galeries of all the prodcut
lines we carry, we have no use for users to be able to sign up so i hid
that part of the pages, what i am wondering is how can i hide the rest
of the navigational links and still be able to get logged in to
admin. Here is a link to the unfinished demo site.
http://www.scs-cases.com/photogallery/
, Oh, it does seem to put the photo in the correct directory., I down loaded your latest ASPProtect.NET_v1.4 and now when i try to get in the admin area it won't let me in. The admin box is selected in the database under the admin user and i can update my user information (password and Address, not username). Is there something that was changed on this version or is it more likely user error on my part? What do you think i should try first?, No can do. In both cases there is an icon that says "Not uploaded". I click in it and nothing happens. There is no link to upload. Am I missing something?
By the way, I appreciate and am impressed with your rapid response. Thanks.
, Are you reffering to the number of the left of the users name in admin.
I thought it was a counter at first but that number only displays the number of albums they have set up. ,
Ok, set up a new web.config in root, with just the suggested code.
that worked to get this....

, Hello,
In that version is is not easy to change the values as they were not intended to be edited. You would have to dig through quite a lot of code as those values are hardcoded in quite a few pages. Probably at least 10 or more.
In the pro version there are variables you can change that very easily as that is intended to be easily changed in that version. , now. I just went to that url and this is the error I see which shows me there is a character in the source code that shouldnt be there which is causing the page to halt.
Looks like a "carrot".

^ , When I go to set up a new user, my user name and password are already in the window. And I am un-sure why. I start a new browser, and again that my same user name and password is in that window., ok,
IE and firefox do some things differently.
It could very well have to do with MIME types set on the server for your website. pdf probably isnt set as a mime type which can cause issues with file streaming situations.
Mime types are either set in the IIS console for your web site under the http headers tab or you can try setting the content-type header to 'application/pdf' right on the asp page the does the streaming
see this article which shows how to do that http://psacake.com/web/gj.asp
'Specify a MIME type such as "text/html", "image/gif" or "application/pdf" Response.contenttype = "application/pdf" 'Useful in cases for unknown file types
You would want to put the code that sets the contentype as close to the top of the asp page doing the streaming as possible. , look in the "check_user_inc.asp" file
Thank you that did it !! , need more info..
are you using aspimage to resize images and make true thumbnails.. (because if you have it turned on and it isnt actually installed on the server you will get broken thumbnails.)
what kind of images are you using ? gif or jpegs
are you uploading images over existing images ?
really need to know exactly what to do to reproduce the situation from scratch and then I can give you a better answer ??
cwilliams38348.7894097222, Is this the full version 7. Did you make any changes to the code ? Is the User_ID field still an autonumber field in the Access database ?
I do not see how this could happen unless somehow the autonumber field setting for User_ID was changed in the database? , ok, well that should not be a problem then.. its meant to be able to be put in a folder like that.. just make sure the folder is not a subweb or anything like that... meaning dont set the folder up to have its own application in IIS. Just use a regular folder of course that is part of the root iis application.
Perhaps you just didnt edit the paths in the settings like I mentioned.,
