also, from looking at your site your ideal scenario would be a system that allows you to show all banners in one zone at any given time but in a different order.
ASPBanner is just not that sort of system. It is only designed to show one banner at a time from a given zone in random order., (customer replied aug-sep 2005)
OK, you have old code then... I will send you some updated files that you can try.. let me know here if it solves the problem. ,
I assume so you can clean up users that register, but then never pay ?, The ASPProtect v7.x Documentation is now available as a download in windows ".chm" format. (needs to be viewed on a windows based machine that can read it) If you are using XP with Service Pack 2 follow the instructions below or you will not be able to view the help file.
Download Documentation
You should save this file and then open it.
Just opening it from download may not work and you will not be able to read it correctly.
Please continue to check the support forum threads for the most up to date documentation.
IMPORTANT
If your are using xp with service pack 2 there are some new security features that can block the access of help files you download. So as far as the ".chm" file goes.. you have to download it... right click on it...go to properties... then choose unblock down in the lower right corner ...then you can open and view the file correctly
, I checked through the code and could not find anything as well.
However, I do think it may be related somehow to the code as I get the messages popping up in the error log only after I have edited a banner.
If there is nothing obvious, I may just set my error log to filter and automatically delete this type of error. Not something I prefer to do.
Thanks for the quick response.
Otherwise the program is working very well and I'm happy with it.
, Well, thats not normal.
(it should work just like our online demo does)
Do you have everything turned on in the settings ?
Uploading needs to be enabled and you also have to pick a valid upload method.
, Having a quality professionally set up ASP.NET server that is going to support your needs is CRITICAL whether it is yours or someone elses. Them saying they will not set permissions is useless. Quite honestly Network Solutions is a joke when it comes to ASP.NET hosting. They are all about CHEAP MASS HOSTING and that is not where you go when you plan on running complex ASP.NET applications. What good is ASP.NET hosting if you can not permissions set on folders you need it for? A lot of people run ASPProtect.NET and their hosts set permissions for them without issue. We made one folder that they could click on and set all permissions at once easily. If they truly knew anything they would understand that and set permissions for you in a heartbeart. You have to have a correctly set up server or a hosting company that is serious about your ASP hosting needs.
I mean you come to us with this mess of a situation, we tell you its a bad setup. We tell you to rebuild the server correctly or make a new one. Now instead of doing that you come to us with another mess of a situation. Now you act all frustrated because you have spent so much time on this. How the heck do you think we learned everything we know ? Do you think we have never spent weeks on a problem or stayed up for 4 nights in a row without sleep. That is how you learn and it is called experience. I have no sympathy for someone that complains about how long something took because I am right there with the best of them and I have paid my dues.
Have you by chance read all of this thread below because despite what you keep telling me you are totally falling into this category.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo234-1.htm
Granted you may not be "Joe Coder" but you are definetly "that guy" who doesn't really know what is going on with ASP.NET. "that guy" who sets up his own server and knows enough to be dangerous. You definetly have enough sense/basic skills to dig around and read articles and try things but when you are on the wrong track that only helps out so much.
Also: I really was pretty tired when I got home last night, but now that I really think about what you did with that webserver/domain controller is about the worst moves possible when it comes to IIS hosting setups.. That is just SO BAD !! Now, don't think that I haven't done some REAL stupid things in the past. John too, like the time 5 or so years back when thought he could make a Windows XP Pro webserver for serious non development use . Anyway, that is how you learn. I suggest you get your server running correctly (not a domain controller) or you get a real host like www.alentus.com for your asp hosting needs. I mean you can get an account for like 10.00 a month and end all these headaches right now. I even know one of the head techs there as well as the general manager. Their ASP and ASP.NET support is 2nd to none.
You may not like what I have to say, (hell, I can pretty much guarantee you won't) but I tell it like it is and in the long run you will be better off for it.. We spent a ton of time developing the .NET version of this product and we sell it way less than it is worth especially since we provide source code. It is an awesome product, but if the server isn't truly and correctly supporting ASP.NET or they host will not set permissions than it is out of our hands. As far as I am concerned anything else is a waste of everyone's time. I am not going to play that game. Quite frankly, you need to get your stuff together. Nothing you have come up with so far has anything to do with a bug with ASPProtect.NET. Everything has been server related.
QUALITY HOSTING !!!
PROFESSIONALY AND CORRECTLY SET UP SERVER !!!
THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE !!! , we ended up resolving it...
the physical path being used was invalid, Hello,
Sorry, I do not have any good ideas on this one...
Domain Name Masking can cause issues with quite a few things.
cwilliams38366.3136342593, The redirection at 1st login feature is supposed to work like I explain in this thread.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo385-1.htm
Though what you just said is a bit confusing it sounds like you have some sort of browser problem and it is doing the redirect every single time. ?
I would suggest reseting all your browser settings to normal and making sure cookies are enabled because forms based authentication uses session variables and cookies must be enabled for session variables to work correctly. If not something like this could happen as the redirection at 1st login would happen over and over every time.
So try it on other computers and try with firefox as well as IE. Many people go nuts with their browser settings and way too much stuff blocked which can cuse all sorts of issues. Also some script blocking and firewall software can cause problems so disable all of that when testing.
You may also have created some sort of endless loop. (I really need to know way more information on what you did to know that for sure)
You may also want to consider doing your redirects manually meaning you protect a a page and right after the protection you use regular ASP redirect statements to redirect the user whevever you like based on their session info which is available to easily check immediatly after someone gets through the authentication.
I still stand behind my statements that redirection is not good site design. You really really need to understand and plan your ASP pages as well as have a very good understanding of the session and how all of that works if you use redirection with a password authentication scenario. You should never be redirecting someone to an ".htm" pages except during testing because you wont be able to stop users who are not supposed to go there from going there directly.
, ASPProtect protects ".asp" pages only.
That is your problem.
, like I mentioned are you by chance running something like Norton Antivirus Script Blocking ?? That can cause timeouts and all sorts of problems with ASP as can other software like it. , Yes, that worked...
, My server is Server2003. I could not find the folder settings you mentioned. I did find a iuser which I added as specified. I retried to perform an upload. Still same message. But it does move the JPG to the picture folder. So, part of it is working. , and did you response.write that session value to see if it holds anything to ensure it is being set , It appears there was a flag problem. When reading it into SQL Server, it converted the True/False in Access to 1/0 in SQL Server.
, I am using cdont to send email. what do i have to do send email to other display my full name instead of email address. In other word I want to see first name last name in their email client instead of email address.
thanks for your help
, Look in the "check_user_inc.asp" file..
You'll see the name of the cookie there and also get an idea how to access it.
In most versions it looks like this.
Request.Cookies("PASWORDSYSTEMCOOKIE")("COOKIE_USERNAME")
You'll want the cookie for the username because the session variable will not exist unless they have actually gone to a protected page during that session at the site.
It would probably be best the check for both the session and the cookie. That will make sure people logged in that arent using the cookie option still see the message you want to display.
Sorta like this..
GetUsername = ""
If Request.Cookies("PASWORDSYSTEMCOOKIE")("COOKIE_USERNAME") <> "" Then
GetUsername = Request.Cookies("PASWORDSYSTEMCOOKIE")("COOKIE_USERNAME")
Else If Session("Username") <> "" Then
GetUsername = Session("Username")
End If
Response.Write GetUsername
cwilliams38298.9175, I am using v7 with other software written in ASP.NET. When I include the the "checkfor" and include file, I'm receiving a compliation error.

, Humm.. that should have worked fine
why are you getting a "OLE DB" error I wonder ?
I need more information.
Database being used and version ?
Server OS Version?
Connection String being used ?
etc etc
, Oh also, I tried to run the asp on my machine (win XP) and unless I'm missing something fairly obvious, I cannot get it to run correctly...when previewing it, I see all the code instead of what I should be seeing., I have ASP Photogallery running and it seems to be great, but I would like to allow uploads using DUNDAS the problem is I can't seem to find it on the linked website. I did find an EXE install in another place but I am running on a Shared Host (Godaddy) and can't run an executable on it. Where can I find Dundas and is there a way to install it without running an EXE??, so use the connection string the readme.txt in the sql installation folder file tells you to... it has the correct username.. I just posted that info above
or change the username in the connection string so its rigfht
or go into sql and give any user you want access to the database and use them
Any connection strings that come in the datacon_inc.asp file the way it ships are examples. We fully expect people to edit them.
Also.. the SQL scripts primarly goal is give you a properly set up database with correct files and table settings. Users and permissions often need a little extra attention from the installer as that part doesn't always get set right by the scripts It really all depends on what sql user you are when you execute the scripts. Many times the user someone logs in with doesn't have permission to make users and set permissions.
cwilliams38325.9116898148, Okay, so I copied the txt file into the export file and tried the import users option and it timed out on me as well.
Would it be easier to figure out if you were able to look at the iis server?
, I do not think it it anything to do with the Application.
You most likely have some sort of ad blocking software that is doing it.
It is seeing the word "banner" or "ad" and blocking the images in your browser.
I doubt it is anything built into xp doing it. XP with SP2 has built in pop-up blockers but no ad blockers like that really. It is norton ad blocker or something of that nature.
, If you have found out that parent paths are disabled on the web server you can still use the application.
Before you continue.
If it is your server consider enabling parent paths to solve the problem.
If it is not your server consider asking them to enable parent paths for your web site to solve the problem.
If that is not possible please download this zip file.
2005-02-20_150703_aspprotect_v7.x_alternate_include_file_pat hs.zip
This zip file contains 3 sets of alternate files depending on your situation. You simply replace your existing aspprotect v7.x files with these new ones.
The zip file contains the following folders and files.

Below is the contents of the readme.txt file which explains everything.
The following folders each have a version of all the files in the ASPProtect system that might need to be edited in case you need to change the paths for the server side include files. There are 3 different scenarios.
(parent paths enabled) - This is the way the application comes.
The files in this folder have FILE server side includes containing "../" information. While these includes will work when the applicaion in is any location of a website they will not work if parent paths are disabled on the web server. Generally you will want to use these on your xp development machine. You can of course use them on your real server if parent paths are enabled. Parent Paths are now disabled on II6 by default and some hosting company will not enable them.
(domain root)
The files in this folder have VIRTUAL server side includes in them.
These includes only work when the applicaion is installed in the root of your web domain. For example if your domain was called "www.somedomain.com" the following aspprotect files and folders would end up like this
"http://www.somedomain.com/check_user_inc.asp"
(domain directory)
The files in this folder have VIRTUAL server side includes in them.
These includes only work when the applicaion is installed in a directory called "aspprotect" in the root of your web domain. For example if your domain was called "www.somedomain.com" the
following aspprotect files and folders would end up like this
"http://www.somedomain.com/aspprotect/check_user_inc.asp"
You can change the name of the "aspprotect" directory but you will will have to edit the includes in the files.
Lastly, if you are on a local machine and insist on using the VIRTUAL INCLUDES you would also use the (domain directory files) even though you dont have a domain on your local machine most likely
For example if your site was installed like so.
cwilliams38403.6836342593, It's MS Access, Version 7 (the Full one).
Anyway, I had inadvertently changed the user_id field type to "number". When I changed it back to "autonumber", everything went back to normal.
Thanks you very much for your quick reply and sorry to have bothered you.
, The only other thing I can think of if you are not getting any errors.
Is that you may have the path to the server include file correct but ASP server side code is not executing in that part of your web site.
You can do a simple test to tell if it is...
Make a simple ".asp" page in the same folder.
Put only this code in it.
<% Response.Write ("ASP is executing") %>
then run the page via the web browser thru the server..
If the text prints out ASP is running... if you don't see anything it is not
cwilliams38229.5820486111, Hi there,
Well, that is why we added the PayPal subscription pack where all of that is taken care of and customers get put under a recurring billing cycle.
The more people you get to pay that way the less you have to do.
We also have routines for the two other supported payment methods so people can look up their account and add time to it whether it is active/expired or not.
Other than that, yes it is something you need to sort out on your own based on how you want to run your system. You have the source code and the sky is the limit on how you want handle all of that. You send out an email to users about to expire. Whether they come back to the site/look up their account and add more time to it is up to them. I really just do not see any way ASPProtect could handle that whole process automatically.
As for batch changing to users in the database. We give you the source code and we also use an open database structure. You can run any query you want on the database whether with ASP code or directly in your database using the tools that come with it, You can write any code you like to do whatever you like to the database. You can even tie other systems and code into the database via OBDC and manipulate data. The sky is the limit like I said. I also don't really see how batch changes to the database relates to individual users paying again for access or not especially since we include payment pages were a users can look up their accounts and pay for and add more time to it automatically ? At least not regarding the payment routine we provide support for.
ASPProtect can not handle everything every person would need to do. It is meant as a solid starting point for any project, but there are going to be times when more functionality will need to be added by the customer based on their specific needs.
, You would have to carefully edit the asp code in the "add_new_account.asp" file. It you look that file over with a text editor it is pretty easy to see where the text to edit is. Just make sure you edit it in the section for the email component you are using. Back the file up before you make any changes to it so you can revert back if you mess anything up., thx, thats a known error I forgot about.
I just updated the zip archive so the error is gone but if you bought ASPBanner Unlimited Version 7.3 Before April/06/2004 you can optionally apply the fix.
To fix it (only if you want to use the option explicit method of calling banners and not even a really necessary fix as this is just an error in the generated code your supposed to use)
Just edit aspbanner/zones.asp with a text editor.
Where you see the double dim carefully remove one of the "dim" s and save the file.
cwilliams38209.9251851852, After taking another look at this and trying your suggestions without success, it appears that in Windows 2003 server it is nearly impossible to remove the READ ONLY attribute from the _database folder. I'm wonder if this could the cause?
Thanks
, Hello dear Chris
I can login for the first time. I exit from the browser and then I cannot login again. This happens for every user.
I noticed that the values in the fields "Login_limit" and "Active" in
the ASPP_Users table in the SQL changed to NULL and 0 when login and
remained in those values after close the browser.
If manually I change the values it is ok but the problem repeated.
Thank you in advance.
, I just took a look and that is definetly what happened.
It has nothing to do with the registration process as far as I can see.
Just running this page triggers it and I know it does not do that the way it comes.
http://www.myvirtualtutor.com/aspprotect/users/user_area.asp
Please back up what you changed and put the user area back the way it came..
If error still happens then I can help you.. It it works fine with the default files from the zip archive then you messed something up in the code.
You have to be really careful when working with ASP code.
Also: just in case you did this. " you should not be password protecting any files in the users area that are already there " the users area does it's own thing and there is no reason to be doing anything like that to the files that are already there. You can do whatever you like to files you add on your own.
cwilliams38456.0957060185, Hi Chris,
The hosting company has been doing some work apparently regarding the database connection issue. Still something is funky
When I type in www.vickerylightning.com/aspgallery/default.asp I get the custom 404 error page and I noticed that it is trying to open the following:
http://www.vickerylightning.com/skins/default/settings.asp
Is that what it is supposed to do?
Thanks!
Rhona, the rookie
, Done!
I was able to put my experience was based on *40 months* of usage! I
think I bought a version way back in 2001, IIRC, so it's been a long,
happy trip with ASPProtect for me!
, Excellent.
Payment now taken in £.

Thanks Folks.
, I installed the ASPProtect.NET project no problem. I am using VS.NET 2003 on Windows XP SP2 (and fully patched). I am able to build the project successfully, however I cannot debug the project. I get an error "Unable to start debugging on the web server. The project is not configured to be debugged." The web app runs fine just browsing to it.
I know this is an isolated problem particular to this project. I have MANY other .NET projects that I can debug without any problems. I have tried going into IIS and turn on the debugging for server-side script debugging and making sure my IIS application setting were configured correctly.
Can anyone shed any light on this at all? Christopher, is there any reason I should not be able to debug this? (i.e. the aspprotectlicense.dll)
Thanks,
K
, I have a customer who is asking the following:
... could you make a link from it to our website and is there a way to see what traffic goes from us to them. They are going to pay a commission on sales, however I need to be able to track who views their site...
Wishful thinking or could you add code to track their IP address and display in the report section? Not sure that would be enough to satisfy this request. Suggestions?
Thanks, Lance
, Of course ASP.NET is and HAS been installed. I have been running asp.net scripts for years on it. I am not new to asp.net nor setting up the server or anything. ASP.NET is properly installed and works perfectly.
You are missing the fact i mentioned it is a DOMAIN CONTROLLER.
I have come across MANY articles ONLINE via GOOGLE that mention if it is a domain controller, for some reason the aspnet account is not there or gets deleted.
IN ITS PLACE GOES THE IIS_WPG ACCOUNT. IS YOUR SOFTWARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THIS ACCOUNT?
Is it possible to run ASP.NET scripts without ASP.NET not being installed? Because I have been running asp.net pages without any problem.
