still.. its got to be somthing along those lines.. I have seen times when even dbo didnt have full rights to a particular database so permissions should always be manually checked..
The import data routine is most likely the source of the trouble
For troubleshooting sake I would create a fresh installation from scratch using the sql script we provide and a new SQL user. Then see if that works. If it does then try to import your data into that.
There are no other things I can think of doing. Sometimes you just have to start with a clean slate. , Regarding installation in a subfolder
Though this should be common sense and ASP.NET 101 "so to speak" One thing not mentioned in the docs..
If you do not install ASPProtect.NET in the true root of a web there a key in the web config you must adjust.
it looks like this
<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" />
The way it comes it is valid for a root installation..
lets say you installed the application in folder called. "aspprotectnet"
the key would change to this
<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectnet/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" /> cwilliams38454.3830439815,
Come on the threats are not necessary- i got the point the first time you said it.. i thought i made a friend thru this and felt comfortable to say something like that... i am not a big online chatter just do the web stuff as a hobby... i am a network / computer hardware guy (yet i work for a mortgage co. go figure...), ya,
any variation of a site url is going to have its own set of application and session variables.. soy you have to be consistant with your navigation links
example (for anyone that comes across this thread)
http://www.examplesite.com/somepage.asp
is going to have a different set of application and session variables then
http://examplesite.com/somepage.asp
even though they are basically the same page , it is not uncommon for folder permissions to be lost or changed on a server.. a lot of things can cause it
if it was working and now you can not edit or write new data to the database it is most likely permissions
I would triple check permissions... see my articles if there is any doubt on how permissions are set

, Hello,
If you are using ASPProtect Version 7 it is possible because version 7 supports html emailing. In any other version it would require some custom coding to add html email support. You would have to sort it out by experimenting and editing the emailing code. All the email methods have documentation on the web in some form or another showing how to send html emails.
Also, sometimes depending on the email component being used and the email client reading the email a link in a text based email will get hyperlinked automatically. For example outlook usually will do that, but it doesn't always in other situations.
Lastly, we have special upgrade pricing should anyone want to upgrade to ASPProtect Version 7. It really has a ton of great features.
Best Regards,
Chris Williams www.CJWSoft.com cwilliams38415.6414236111, no, but in the standard version it probably will not run so great with more than 75 or so.
The unlimited version can handle pretty much whatever., that's they way it should be done..
the only other thing would have been to test everything with sql before trying to import any data.. and make sure all was fine at that stage
more info on the errors would be helpful.
Id' also carefully visually compare the SQL tables and fields with the SQL scripts and make sure all field types and settings got set correctly.
Also, make sure the user accessign the database has datareader and datawriter permissions of course. , it is by design actually and something that can be improved (I just never thought of it when I 1st designed the system and it is actually planned to be added in Version 8)
The trick would be to reset those session variables anytime someone edits and saves their information... not very hard at all
you would do it on the save code page for when a user edits themself. you want to grab the info posted from the form and reset each session variable at the same time everything is re-saved to the database
example
Session("Company_Name") = Request("Company_Name")
, when you get back to work.. your "redirect.asp" needs the password include file at the top of it.. or that wont work either..
and of course those pages you send people to all need to be repaired , This is great documentaion for windows script 5.6 in windows chm file format for jscript and vbscript.
We use server side vbscript in all our our ASP 3.0 applications so this info can be a lot of help.

cwilliams38401.6321990741, Please Note : Users with the option pack a new feature called groups that is much more powerful than access levels.
More On Access Levels
Again, Examples of managing Access Levels are provided in the "multiple_access_levels" folder included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code of the ASP pages in that folder with a text editor to see the working code.
Access Levels and how they work can be re-coded to work in many different ways. However, you have to be a good ASP developer to make changes to it. Here is some information on how they work by default and also info on an alternate scenario we have provided.
In the "check_user_inc.asp" that comes in the root of this system Access Levels works as follows.
Level 1 has Access to - Level 1 Level 2 has Access to - Level 1,2 Level 3 has Access to - Level 1,2,3 Level 4 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4 Level 5 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5 Level 6 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6 Level 7 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 Level 8 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN
The "check_user_inc.asp" included in the "extras" directory is an example of changing the access level checking code to work differently. In that "check_user_inc.asp" Access Levels works as follows.
Level 1 has Access to - Level 1 Level 2 has Access to - Level 2 Level 3 has Access to - Level 3 Level 4 has Access to - Level 4 Level 5 has Access to - Level 5 Level 6 has Access to - Level 6 Level 7 has Access to - Level 7 Level 8 has Access to - Level 8 ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN
If you get creative you can create some interesting access level checking scenarios.
Here is some additional info..
If the access levels are too restrictive you can ignore them all together and create your own totally custom solutions. Here is a quick rundown of some of the things you can do.
Ok... so if you want to be really specific about what each user can see and can't .. here's an example of what you can do
Don't use the access levels before the include file.. Don't worry about what you set a user to in the admin area since the access levels won't be used.
Do something like this..
Every time a user logs in session variables are set that you can access at any time.. thus allowing you to know who they are.
So you could do something like this...
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
<% If Session("USERNAME") = "bob1267" or Session("USERNAME") = "carl45" or Session("ADMIN") = "True" Then Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "Yes" Else Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "No" Response.Redirect(Request.ServerVariables("script_name")) End If %>
The following URL explains what Redirects are. http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/redirects.asp
That would in effect create totally custom access levels.. but you would have to do it manually for each user.
You can also do things like this after a person logs in
Show custom html to any specific user based on either their username or access level ... like so
say there was a menu and a certain link should only show up to username "paully67"
you could do something like this
<HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE></TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY>
<br> <a href="main.asp">Home Page</a> <% If Session("USERNAME") = "paully67" Then %> <br> <a href="paullys_page.asp">Pauls Stats Page</a> <% End If %> <br> <a href="links.asp">Links Page</a>
</BODY> </HTML>
Or you can show custom HTML or links based on Access Levels or any other info.
You can do just about anything with if-then statements and using the built in vbscript functions..
Hopefully this info will help to give you some ideas...
Bottom line is you have to do some work within your site to make the Access Level system really come alive. cwilliams38114.6506712963, How do I change the character length for the description field? , Hello..
I actually noticed something was up with your install earlier... (I saw you in my log files when you clicked to cjwoft from the docs)
I need more info... like what uploading method your using.. what image resizing component, what widths yoru resizing things to... etc
have you tried it while telling it to delete the pics and also while not telling it not to delete them from the import folder
I might have to take a look tommoro as well to really figure it if that is ok
I have to go the bar to meet some friends so I wont be of much more help tonight :)
I been working steady all week and need a few.
CJW , 1) Does everything, i.e. every user, every category, every product, etc., get stored in just one single database, or are there multiple databases at work and are linked to one another? I am asking because there is only one table in the DB, and it is the "Users" table. So I am presuming that there must be other databases that are linked to the DB. Is this correct?
2) Are user-level security permissions utilized in the sample Access DB that is shipped with the software? I am asking because we cannot seem to remove the "temp" password no matter what we try, and this is the only reason I can think of. , you have to check the session variables for groups a little differently.. info on that is here
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo198-1.htm
, Chris,
D'oh! How completely obvious!
I got it now. (In Step 4, by the way, you need to click on the web site, not the directory. The directory has its own Properties menu, which is competely different than the Properties menu for the web site.)
Thanks for the fast response!
Robert
, who knows, thanks for your input, I am further than I was when I started talking to you!, you basically have to edit the html in the links in the various pages and remove them... some are in includes files
use a text editor and be causious / back things up before you remove links so you can revert back , I am trying to import a file, and I get this error:
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a03f9'
Expected 'Then'
/aspprotect/password_admin/upload_post.asp, line 6 If Session("Admin") <> "True"
-----------------------------^ Any suggestions on how to fix it? Thank you. , Thanks for the quick reply!
I was thinking it was an ASP config/install issue.
I usually deal with Linux/PHP, so this is all new to me :) , Hi all
I logged in myself to my website, and I tried to log in to another with same username and password. But I was able to log in again.
It was supposed to block me from logging in, but it let me to log in.
there has got to be some configurations I must have missed.
Could you instruct me on this Concurrrent login so mine works as well...
thanks
, nice. I love learning at least 1 thing every day, check the action for the button in the code... its probably not posting back the the right page which should the same page it is...
I bet ya it is posting to guestbook2 which is the wrong directory... an old mistake I forgot to correct... cwilliams38310.6540046296, how's it going ?, Great software.
How easy would it be to copy the email address entered at registration directly into the login id field so that the user's email address is automatically used as the login id?
Also, where in the code can I turn off the random password generator - I'd rather force people to pick something they can remember themselves.
Thanks,
Nick , Okay, thanks, I'm going to change the method tonight and see if it makes a difference
I'll report back
Dave , You cannot use server mappath in the connecting string of the application. If you want to know why read my article. http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/physical-path.asp
Make your connecting string just like in my example.. do not use the oledb connection string either as it will cause other problems.
If you need to find out the path to the mdb file you can use server.mappath to get that info but do not put server mappath in the connecting string. See my article again.
then if the database folder has proper permissions and the path to the mdb file is valid it will work... otherwise you get useless errors, its really that simple.
You also may want to download ASPTest from www.cjwsoft.com it is designed to show a person how to setup a working data connection., Also, I notice you are using iframes to load the banners. That is probably your issue more than anything. That browser probably does not handle them well.
Possibly try other methods of displaying the banners and see what happens. The XML parser is usually one the best methods to try as it will output just your banner code straight into your html. , Hello,
I need to see if this is possible. I want to create a browsing system such that, the user selects a Province from a drop down list on the main page. Based the selection, the username of all the users in that province will be shown. Then the user can click on a specific username and his/her portfolio (photo album) will be displayed.
is this possible? If so, How can I do this, please help.
Thanks
Sean cwilliams38420.518275463, yes, there is upgrade pricing http://www.aspprotect.com/purchase_v7_upgrade_pricing.asp
and upgrade instructions here in the forums
if you install it in the same directory structure you wont have to make any changes to the pages in your site you have already protected.. because the code to protect a page will be the same
now, anytime you upgrade an application like this there is going to be a lot of work involved especially when there have been so many changes http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo173-1.htm whether or not you upgrade is up to you
Like I said you can make version 6 work with CDOSYS and a remote email server. You just need to do some research on CDOSYS code and spend the time needed to make the code use it. I however am not going to spend time detailing all of that when I created a new version that does it.
, Humm, Did you make any changes to the code ? Solid Black is not the default so it must have changed at least once.
Otherwise it might be some sort of application variable problem. I would make sure the web is and "application" in the IIS console.
, as far as permissions are concerned I wrote two large articles about permissions that cover everything in detail on how to properly set them
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/info11.htm
see the windows 2003 and windows xp permission threads
From things you are saying I assume this is your server. My comments about the path looking funny are because very few commercial hosts would use the "c:\inetpub\wwwroot\" directory. If you are using that and that is correct info then that is fine.
as for knowing whether or not the filesystem object is working the best thing to do is to try to write a text file somewhere in your web and see if it works. Testing something under the most basic scenario is the key to troubleshooting asp issues.
http://www.devasp.com/samples/writetofile.asp , Not really sure how to do this.... i think you know what i am looking to do.. is there anyway you can show me or create that solution for me? It would prob. take you minutes as its been taking me hours , Those access levels are not used and are nothing to worry about. They are left over from the ASPProtect core which I used for the users area of ASPBanner.
I am not sure what you did but its not a none, Unless I know more I can not make any guesses what happened. I would make sure in the database that the user is active and the expiration date field for them if there is one is empty, It probably is. You would have to look at the paypal documentation for IPN and see what needs to be changed in the form code.
You can get all that info from PayPal's website.
There are tons of variables and options you can use with all of their code. They have detailed PDF files full of information on all of them.
cwilliams38459.9550925926, Does ASPProtect 7 work with SQL 2005?, yeah.. I cant say for sure.. as I have never really tried to get it working in xp pro.
Last time I actually used cdonts locally was on a 2000 box
I would do a google search on xp pro, smtp service, and cdonts and let us know what you find out.
All of our apps can use free 3rd part emailing components as well so maybe try some of those. Course you need a valid email server to connect to.
, thanks!, I run F-secure on my laptop which has the anti-virus and firewall modules, and the servers aren't running anything like that. ,
