If you want to have a login form on a non protected page that posts
to a protected ".asp" page use code like this.

Change the action of the form to the page you want them to log into.
Make sure to page you send them to is protected by the "check_user_inc.asp" file.

You can not edit that code with dreamweaver. It will re-arrange the asp and kill it.
If you want to change the look of the login html you have to edit the html by hand in a text editor.

Or create what you want on a blank page using your editor of choice and carefully use parts of that in the ASPProtect code.

In version 7 the login screen is one asp page by itself and is much easier to edit with just about any editor. In version 6 you have to know your html and be careful.

Either way I am not sure templates are a good idea for something like that. That sort of thing tends to cause problems with dynamic code that executes under different directory levels. You want to stick to regular html techniques. ,

OK.  If no return page is set, do they end up on a PayPal confirmation page and have to navigate back to my site by going Back or typing the web address?

,

The main root of your web site needs a "aspnet_client" folder for .NET apps like ASPProtect.NET to run.

If this isnt quite right one of two things can happen.

1.) You'll get a pop-up error like this.
'Unable to find script library WebUIValidation.js'

2.) The ASPProtect login screen will come up but just not let you log in.

This folder only goes in the root. Not in subfolders and subwebs.

If you dont have this folder in the root of your web.

Read this article to learn how to properly create the folder.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/e n-us/cpguide/html/cpconconfiguringaspnetapplicationforaspnet version.asp

If the app is installed on a hosted server you'll need to ask them to do that for you.

You can also try copying a the folder from your own machine after creating it the way the article above says.

or

here is a copy of my "aspnet_client" folder created under the latest framework at the time of this writing. v 1_1_4322

2004-11-03_134912_aspnet_client.zip

I am not sure if copying it in is as good as having created by the server as I haven't had time to really test all of that but it should work. Ultimately all this does is put some files .net needs in the web.

I was actually able to do similar thing by allowing our dedicated search engine to access the site unchallanged.

<%
If Trim(Left(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_USER_AGENT"),11)) = "MYPASSWORD" Then
 SearchFlag = True
End If

If SearchFlag <> True Then
If Session("Access_Level") > CHECKFOR or Session("Access_Level") = "" Then
%>
<!--#include virtual="/Auth/check_user_Code.asp" -->
<head>
<title>My Title</title>

</head>

<body>

My Protected stuff here

</body>

</html>

For this to work, the search engine must pass the PW to the web site. I just was not sure how to do the same thing with IPs. I will play with the code and see what happens. If it works, I will post it here to help others, if this is OK with forum rules.

Thanks,

Mo
I just added couple of lines and it works fine

If (Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR")) = "xxx.xx.xxx.xxx" Then
 ' Session("PasswordAccess") = "Yes"
 SearchFlag = true
End If

,

the menu file.. "menu.asp" or something... just follow the logic of the code to find things like that. Look for server side include files and what not in the source code.

This is a good article on figuring out what pages to edit as well as other things.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/common_sense.asp

If it was working and you changed code you could have possible messed up how all of that works... you may need to revert back and be really careful as you make changes testing every step of the way.

cwilliams38308.0683449074,

Not really sure how to do this.... i think you know what i am looking to do.. is there anyway you can show me or create that solution for me? It would prob. take you minutes as its been taking me hours

,

glad it is working now

sorry ya had trouble.

cwilliams38418.6886342593,

Hi,

Sorry, but if  ".asp" pages download instead of run on a server then that means ASP is not working on the server and is not configured correctly. That is about as low level as it gets and it is really the hosting companie's responsibilty to sort that one out.

It is totally a system admininister's job to make sure that sort of thing is working. If this place supports ASP they really need to fix that for you. There really is nothing  I can do for you until ".asp" pages at least run.

As for the Free install... that is no problem. Of course you need to get the hosting company to fix the web before I can be of any help. There is more to that problem then permissions.

For starters I would make a simple ".asp" page with hardly anything it (even some simple html text is fine) and ask them why it is downloading instead of executing and to please fix things.

, well, like I said.. I am leaving in about 5 minutes for the wedding.

If you put this up on a live server that I can connect to I will look at it tommoro for you. I have told you everything I could possibly tell you so I dont think your going to figure it out based on the things you have told me so far.

Only other thing I can think of is make sure your not running anything goofy on that server 2003 box. Norton Antivirus script blocking... various ad blockers.. anti spyware applications... etc etc... They can cause problems as well. ,

We have been using ASP Protect for a while now and are big fans of the program.  We received ASP Banner 8.2 with our puchase which we now have a need for.  I went to put the files on our webpage, and doing nothing else other than locating the directory there, I noticed differences with how ASP Protect operates.  We have customized it a bit and want to keep the 2 programs separate.  the login screen for one showed up on the other, and some ASP Protect pages appeared altered so i immediately deleted ASP Banner.  did I do something wrong, and how can i ensure the 2 programs work completely independant of each other?  We can't risk braking what we're now using but would really like to add banner functionality to some of our pages.  maybe an update to the program before we install?  puchase new software?  Thanks for your help-

, If you makes you feel any better the photo gallery app runs awesome off an access database. Mostly because all of the picture work is done in the filesystem, not the database. The load on the database is relatively low even with a lot of users.,

Ok nevermind that... i got by that wasn't paying attention...

The problem is even before this which i didn't know until now.

I placed the protect tag in a page i called members.aspx

When i go to this page is says ACCESS DENIED etc etc etc.

When i go to login to view this page i get the error..which i DIDNT know because i assumed it was working. This is the error im getting:

Server Error in '/MAP' Application.

The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.  Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.42; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.42

btw it says /map because that is the subfolder within the root folder

, I think you can either change some things in your PayPal account settings regarding your default currency..

or add a hidden variable to the PayPal form code ASPProtect uses like this guy did.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=237&KW =paypal

The hidden form variable code would go next to all the other hidden variables in no particlar order.. just look through the paypal code in notepad till you find a bunch of those hidden form variables lines in a row. ,

Both the NET and Classic ASP versions of this application are designed for fine granularity protection of individual apsx extension files. ASPProtect.NET is not designed or intended to protect sub directories, or non aspx content such as Adobe Acrobat .pdf files etc etc.

I completely disagree with your statement that “most sites” have a login box on the left hand side of the page. I suspect you thinking of the ever popular php based forums and “Nuke” type CMS systems which are set up that way but if you look at any site written entirely using .NET that’s rarely if ever the case. (Granted I cant say for sure because I personally haven’t looked at >50% of the estimated 18 billion +  web pages on the internet) Just off the top of my head www.CafePress.com come to mind as a pure .NET site. If you take a look the login button it takes you to its own login page there is not global login form used throughout the site. Reason being that .NET introduced this thing called a “view state” which is used to store things like your session ID (and way more) and must be posted back to the server in order to keep track of visitors. This technology comes in especially handy when you have a web farm in place and your content is being spit out out by more than one server at the same time

I can think of loads of scenarios where the web servers need to know who you are even though you are never directly contacting them via http. This approach is a very smooth and actually very clever solution for enterprise level websites that simply can’t be handled with a single web server.

 On a practical level I know what you are saying but that application sets up all sorts of things when a protected page is accessed and the user is not yet authenticated. That’s the entire reason you need to put that snippet of code at the top of a page you want to protect. That code snippet calls the ASPProtect.NET class and runs through all the logic to see if you are able to access the page. If you are the subroutine exits and the server continues to process the remaining logic on the page. AKA you are able to access its content. If you are NOT authenticated ASPProtect will setup all the proper session and viewstate info and redirect you to the login page for authentication. You may have also noticed a parameter on the login page called ReturnURL. The application looks for that info and if you do have a user ID and password the application automatically redirects you to the page you were trying to access in the first place.

Really I have no idea what you are trying to do, but there is a world of difference in how something looks verses how it works. Lets just say there was a simple way to do what your thinking, what are you going to do with that login form after the person logs in? Just keep displaying it on the entire site so people get confused and don’t know if they are logged in or not? Just that little part of the equation will require making some changes to either ASPProtect.NET or your application will have to have some logic built into it to stop displaying the login forum.

It sounds to me like your basically looking for a super simple 101 type deal that allows people to sign up for an event and you the admin can see that information? I’m guessing they can also log in again and check out their details and see what event they signed up for?

If that’s the case you’re trying to take a very sophisticated protection application and downgrade it into something that would be one heck of a lot easier to write all from scratch in about an hour.

Your not going to be able to “plug and play” a simple form into a page and turn that application as a magic universal login solution for a website, while its 100% possible to use the application that way if you choose, you need to check out the source code and plan your custom integration accordingly.

,

First pass through, I don't see anything changed in the groups section of the check_user asp file. the logoff asp wasn't touched.

I noticed the demo online (on this site) only has pages protected with access levels; you say it works fine with groups also?

,

I have one file called asplistings.sql but I have license for ASPListings_auto and ASPListings_real_estate.  I really want to use the SQL server for both.  Please advise how?

Thank you.
Lance

,

I would say that it isn't all that difficult using mySQL for the backend....the main thing is to make sure you set the primary keys for auto-incrementing in your database.  Alos need to make sure that any DELETE SQL statements are formatted like this

DELETE FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue

and not

DELETE * FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue

The same holds true for using MSSQL

,

You are right, there are NO entries in the "PayPal_Subscriber_ID" field at all. Any way of fixing this?

,

If you run asplistings auto in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.

And you run your other version of ASPListiings in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.

You will have zero major changes to make to anything... other than what you did above..

But remember theyare the same app and share a lot of thing including sessions and application variables.. that is why if they are installed in the same domain each one needs its own application set in the IIS console so they run seperately of one another.

cwilliams38312.5189814815,

Hello:

When using the Mass Mail feature and selecting the Users to ‘Active’ and the Access Level I want to send to the system will still send e-mails to the ‘Inactive’ users from the same Access Level.

In other words it sends to everyone in the Access Level regardless if you choose “Active” only.

Any ideas to correct?

Thanks,

-Ricardo

, you can edit the look of it but because it is licensed software the links to aspbanner and the aspbanner logo.. etc etc must remain  otherwise change it all you like.,

I'm trying to use CDOSYS.

It seems to work fine on the web page, however the mail never gets
delivered.

I can see my messages sitting in c:\inetpub\mailroot\pickup but they never leave it.

I found another folder after doing a search for "pickup".... it is:
d:\program files\Exchsrvr\Mailroot\vsi 1\PickUp     If I paste the files
into there, they get delivered.

How can I get the email to be delivered without doing the cut and paste?

I've tried it both with and without authorization.

I am running a Windows 2000 server with Exchange 2000.

Thanks.

, MSACCESS or SQL server ?,
I would like to delete the SQL tables and set them up from scratch using enterprise manager and sql query manager and see what happens

If that is ok with you let me know.

Something is wrong like I said...  almost seems like the database is caching old password info from the field.
Sure go ahead

,

Some users have reported an error during the registration process.
Here is what I believe is happening.

When you register you get sent a validation email that has a link in it that looks something like this.

http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum//activate.asp?ID=testAD3AD2 97BC

That link can only be clicked on once which will activate your account.

If you somehow run that link more than once you will get a message telling you there was an error.

I think some people are double clicking on the link they get sent and running it more than once.... or clicking on it again after registration is complete. It probably happens very fast so they never see the success screen.

Either way, if you can login to the forum nothing is wrong and you are already activated.

cwilliams38089.6248842593, Send email to users that are soon to expire:
What Format should be used for dates and does international friendly dates affect the date as used by the reminder ?

Am having serious problems with renewal notices and expiration dates.

All member sign ups are for 1 yr., yet new members are being sent renewal notices.

Does Paypal use a different date system or has  does Paypal have nothing to do with Subscription dates?

,

... in addition it is a virtual include not a file.  I just tried to use file instead of virtual and then the ../ includes worked on the asp pages.

This is strange because they used to work like that on the 2000 server I had these sites running on.

,

far as I can tell it does... that session abandon thing called in the logoff page should be enough to cover everything

once thing to be careful about

If you log in.. then log off... then go back to a page and do a refresh... you  may in fact be reposting the username and password from before.. thus logging yourself right back in

Perhaps not.. all depends on what your doing... but it is something to be careful of when testing

cwilliams38341.7390509259,

I am using VS 2005, when i go to new project in visual basic folder asp.net web application is not there..

Can i add it somehow?

,

The redirection at 1st login feature is supposed to work like I explain in this thread.

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo385-1.htm

Though what you just said is a bit confusing it sounds like you have some sort of browser problem and it is doing the redirect every single time. ?

I would suggest reseting all your browser settings to normal and making sure cookies are enabled because forms based authentication uses session variables and cookies must be enabled for session variables to work correctly. If not something like this could happen as the redirection at 1st login would happen over and over every time.

So try it on other computers and try with firefox as well as IE. Many people go nuts with their browser settings and way too much stuff blocked which can cuse all sorts of issues. Also some script blocking and firewall software can cause problems so disable all of that when testing.

You may also have created some sort of endless loop. (I really need to know way more information on what you did to know that for sure)

You may also want to consider doing your redirects manually meaning you protect a a page and right after the protection you use regular ASP redirect statements to redirect the user whevever you like based on their session info which is available to easily check immediatly after someone gets through the authentication.

I still stand behind my statements that redirection is not good site design. You really really need to understand and plan your ASP pages as well as have a very good understanding of the session and how all of that works if you use redirection with a password authentication scenario. You should never be redirecting someone to an ".htm" pages except during testing because you wont be able to stop users who are not supposed to go there from going there directly.

,

Your actually confusing me with the whole "joe bloe" thing and user access. I just do not get what you are trying to tell me. Perhaps you can explain in a less confusing way. Your just not technically explaining it andand thats what I need to know to possibly help.

As for the subweb thing you just can not do that. Subwebs have their own sets of application and session variables. An ASPProtect installation and any pages you protect with it are required to be in the same "application" in IIS. Sicne subwebs have their own "applications" in IIS that won't work. It is the nature of "forms based authentication" A sub web is alo considered by our licensing to be a seperate web site and ASPProtect is licensed per web site.

As for breaking pages.. you really shouldnt be editing any pages in the admin area as you will break them unles you are very good with ASP. (does not sound like you are..no offense meant at all)

Pages in the "users" folder are less complex and it is usually ok to edit them carefully.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/common_sense.asp

Pages of your own that you password protect can still be edited in your usualy way though without effecting anything.

Truth is if you back things up before you start editing how can you go wrong ? That's how you learn.

,

Of course ASP.NET is and HAS been installed. I have been running asp.net scripts for years on it. I am not new to asp.net nor setting up the server or anything. ASP.NET is properly installed and works perfectly.

You are missing the fact i mentioned it is a DOMAIN CONTROLLER.

I have come across MANY articles ONLINE via GOOGLE that mention if it is a domain controller, for some reason the aspnet account is not there or gets deleted.

IN ITS PLACE GOES THE IIS_WPG ACCOUNT. IS YOUR SOFTWARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THIS ACCOUNT?

Is it possible to run ASP.NET scripts without ASP.NET not being installed? Because I have been running asp.net pages without any problem.

,

The protection code for my group3 is:

<!-- Begin ASPProtect Code -->
<!-- Groups with access to this page. ( * GP03 * ) -->
<% GROUPACCESS = "3" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
<!-- End ASPProtect Code -->

btw - sorry but I am using v7
and thanks for the assistance

, Not without changing a lot of code. If you didn't want encryption you really should have went with version 6. Encryption is a big new feature of Version 7 and it is inter-mixed with it the code in a lot of places.

As for doing the export and import you have to create a valid export file and then read through this very thread which explains how to import an export file with clear text passwords.

This is from the admin area regarding the text file format
The import/export file must be tab delimited with no text qualifiers. The 1st row containing field names and the following each being a new user. To create your own import file it must be in this exact format. To find out what field names and their order are simply create an export file using ASPProtect and take a look at it.

Generating an import file from your own database requires good knowlege and understanding of Access's Importing and Exporting functions. It is not something I cover as the process is different for everyone and not really very hard. ,

You edit the web.config file that came with ASPProtect.NET.

You find this tag

  <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" />

you change it to this

  <customErrors mode="Off" />

If you have a different web.config file in your root I suggest you make sure the tag is set to off there as well for troubleshooting sake

If done correctly you will get a detailed error
It's basic low level ASP.NET stuff really and does not have anything specific to do with ASPProtect.NET.

You also need to make sure your web is set up correctly for ASP.NET and that the correct web.config's are firing..etc etc

cwilliams38454.4368055556, yes, dont worry about that. It is not checkking permissions just explaining things.

and dont worry about the extra slash it seems to be adding at the end of the path. That is normal. I guess I need to fix that so it does not add that extra slash.,

The ASPProtect v7.x Documentation is now available as a download in windows ".chm" format. (needs to be viewed on a windows based machine that can read it) If you are using XP with Service Pack 2 follow the instructions below or you will not be able to view the help file.

Download Documentation

You should save this file and then open it.
Just opening it from download may not work and you will not be able to read it correctly.

Please continue to check the support forum threads for the most up to date documentation.

IMPORTANT
If your are using xp with service pack 2 there are some new security features that can block the access of help files you download. So as far as the ".chm" file goes.. you have to download it... right click on it...go to properties... then  choose unblock down in the lower right corner ...then you can open and view the file correctly
