well, so far one other guy found one..

his, was some sort of weird character that was causing a line break or something though in my testing I just couldnt figure out what was going on

now for me to reproduce any error someone find with a password I need to know the key used and the password used

which make it real hard to troubleshoot

,

hello,

There is no built in option. You would have to add code to do that.
Its not difficult but custimization like that is not something I support.

,

ok,

I have reviewed the permissions requirements for folders from the support documentation but do not see the 'internal guest' account shown in our system to allow internet access to read/write to the access database.

How else can we locate the proper account (or is it possible there is none?) to use to allow permissions to access the Data directory if it doesn't show up as 'Internal Guest'?

cwilliams38417.7773032407,

Hi,

I basically explained how I thought that might work here where I went over everything I could think of and suggested you download the free version and see if you could get it working
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo488-1.htm

The part about using the alternate scenario involving querystring info from a url.

I have never done anything like that and that is why I told you what I knew and suggested you try it with the free version...

,

The file check_user_inc.asp as the lines: (which include Session("groups")

Here we set some valus about the user into session variables
   Session("PasswordAccess") = "Yes"
   Session("Access_Level") = CmdCheckUser("Access_Level")
   Session("Admin") = CmdCheckUser("Admin")
   Session("Active") = CmdCheckUser("Active")
   Session("Expiration_Date") = Expiration_Date
   Session("User_ID") = CmdCheckUser("User_ID")
   Session("Groups") = CmdCheckUser("Groups")
   Session("Redirection_URL") = CmdCheckUser("Redirection_URL")
   Session("Password") = RC4(CmdCheckUser("Password"), PasswordEncryptionKey)
   Session("Username") = CmdCheckUser("Username")

, You cannot use server mappath in the connecting string of the application. If you want to know why read my article.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/physical-path.asp

Make your connecting string just like in my example.. do not use the oledb connection string either as it will cause other problems.

If you need to find out the path to the mdb file you can use server.mappath to get that info but do not put server mappath in the connecting string. See my article again.

then if the database folder has proper permissions and the path to the mdb file is valid it will work... otherwise you get useless errors,  its really that simple.

You also may want to download ASPTest from www.cjwsoft.com it is designed to show a person how to setup a working data connection.,

You not getting a blank page.. you getting an error. You just can't see it because it appears you edited the page background to black.

error '80040211'

/aspprotect/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp, line 174

, Bingo! that did it.  Somehow the data must have gotten corrupted.

Hopefully that will do for me. Seems like everything is humming along and looks great!

Thanks again,

Laura
, If you have messed up the admin account or forgotten the admin password you generally should open up the database manually and add a new account or see what the old account is.

In version 7 however you have another option. Go through the installation instructions again. Specifically the part where you use the "get_me_in.asp" page to get back into the admin area by pasting in the password encrpytion keye you are using from your config file. , I am having trouble getting any information to show up in the log files directory or anything showing up on the log files tab in the administrator.  I have set the following variables under the settings tab:

UseLogFiles checked and
value of LogFileDirectory is "c:\inetpub\wwwroot\wf\data\logfiles"

I checked the permissions on that folder and they are set so that the Internet Guest account has full control on that directory.

I also checked RecentActiveUsers and RecentPageRequrests.

I am sure I am missing something simple but no files are ever showing up in the logfiles directory...anyone have similar problems or at least successes?

Thanks!!

, If you PM your site info and I can go in and troubleshoot. I have no more ideas. Usually people have zero issues installating this application as I got it pretty tweaked so I need to see what is going on in order to help.,

UPDATE

Version 8.1 has code generators for these new methods built in...

,

Terribly sorry, but we are not software-technical.  So can you please tell us exactly which folder the database would be in.

Thanks in advance.

, Thank you!!

Yippee!

Laura
,

Okay, hopefully I'm posting in the correct area this time.

Currently we are utilizing ASPProtect 7.x

When using the Newsletter function, many members are indicating they are not receiving email.  No evidence of email in SPAM folders.  Also, when checking with email provider, they insist it is not being filtered prior to delivery to member's email address.

The following message does appear when a newsletter is sent.

error '8004020f'

/newsite/ASPprotect/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp, line 124

Line 124 is the line of code to 'send' the emails.  We have approx. 860 members who are on the list to receive the newsletter emails.  I have no way of knowing how many are not getting the email. Based on anecdotal evidence, I'm guessing it could be as high as 20%.

We are using CDOSYS / SMTP authentication with a real external email with MX records. Our website is hosted by Cbeyond.  They insist it isn't at their end. (for what it's worth)

Thanks for your assistance.

NPA

, I just remembered the current skin is stored in a text file in the pictures folder. If it did not have permissions for writing it could give you trouble.  That could of had something to do with it.cwilliams38295.3821064815, You know what, you really are frigin goofy to say you might think we didn't write the software. I got source code to the license dll as well as about 12 revisions of the application sitting on my development server as well as about 1200 emails between John & Myself as we worked on it. Not to mention all those .vb files that come with the application. What do you think those are ? I bet you don't even really know based on something you said in one of your earlier forum posts.

Did you even read this cause this is YOU... !!!
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo234-1.htm
And we say right on the ASPProtect.NET product page to read that article before making a purchase.

Moving on... it basically says on the site ASPProtect.NET works the way it is shown to work. You can use it that way or you can further edit the code with Visual Studio.NET. If you are so good with asp.net then you should be editing the code to work differently or writing your own authentication that works exactly how you want it to. End of story. You keep arguing about things your done... you are so done !!! I won't keep putting up with you.,

If you want to have a login form on a non protected page that posts
to a protected ".asp" page use code like this.

Change the action of the form to the page you want them to log into.
Make sure to page you send them to is protected by the "check_user_inc.asp" file.

, I think you can either change some things in your PayPal account settings regarding your default currency..

or add a hidden variable to the PayPal form code ASPProtect uses like this guy did.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=237&KW =paypal

The hidden form variable code would go next to all the other hidden variables in no particlar order.. just look through the paypal code in notepad till you find a bunch of those hidden form variables lines in a row. ,
I agree -- don't use the code as is.  I provided it only as an idea for a work-around if your ASPProtect users with Internet Explorer complain about the Page Expired message.

I did not test it to be sure the parms coming into the target page (which would be part of the URL when bookmarking) are properly preserved.  It would be easy to make sure they are preserved, but I am not sure the code in the example does that.  I also customized the code with my own page header and footer.

I have the Option Pack but the site does not need it yet so I haven't applied it.  I don't expect many problems re-applying my few lines of modifications.

The IE behavior is not a big deal if you provide an explicit login page, since users would have less interest in paging back to that.   In my case, I simply gave a link to a protected part of the site, and when they take that link, they instead get the login form if they aren't logged on.  Once they log on, they get their desired content page, to which they sometimes want to page back later on.

From searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base and other sources, I could not find a way (using HTML) to turn off IE's behavior of refusing to quietly reload a page containing form data. Netscape does not do this.  So my IE workaround is to ensure my target page does not contain the login form.  It does not solve the cause of the problem, but in this case it gets rid of the Page Expired error message for my IE users.

I also purchased ASPProtect for another site, and I'm using that "out of the box" unmodified.  I'm very pleased with ASPProtect's functionality and the fact that it works completely without the need to customize.  However, I've found it is very easy to customize if I want to.

, I posted this in the wrong forum. Sorry.

I have installed ASPProtect on a client's website and I have been notified that some of their customers have been unable to login to the protected pages.

On testing it seems that the issues seem to be related to how cookies are being stored by IE 6.

ASPProtect is being used to protect particular template files within a Content Mangement System. 90% of the time it is working fine but on the odd occassion particular cutomers are unabe to login.

After quite a bit of testing I have managed to find the scenario in which it starts to have problems and was hoping you may be able to provide a solution.

If a customer enters the wrong password, then reenters the correct username and password, they receive a message "template can not be found" from the Content Management System. This message is generated when a url is entered that contains a link to a template file that does not exist. In this case the template does exist. If I remove the ASPProtect code the page opens without error.

Everytime they re-enter the details they receive the same message.

If they close down the browser and then reenter the correct details in some instances the page will open correctly.

More often than not, they have to delete cookies and temporary files and  close the browser. This seems to fix the problem again for most users. For users who's web access is heavily cached by an internal server, even this does not work.

Have you come across this problem before and can you suggest a remedy.

If you can email me privately I can give you the URL and access codes.

Thanks,

Stuart , yea.. keep us posted... thats weird, I am not talking about image resizing. I need to know if it is possible to limit the upload to images where their height or width is less than 500 PIX. ,

Sounds cool.. post info when you get it sorted out

thx

hopefully someday I'll get the new version finished.. I just never seem to have time. Lately ASPProtect takes up all my time and now aspclassifieds seems to be in need of a new version more so than asp photo gallery

,

5300 users honetly wouldn't even phase the database or the code... even with MSAccess...you got other problems and I can say that with 150% certainty

my guess is permissions on the database folder are not quite right or the odbc drivers have issues.. something along those lines..

access databases act up when full modify permissions are not given to the folder they are in.... they can also act up if the odbc drivers are very new and you are not using a newer version of the access database such as 2002 version as opposed to a 97 or 2000 version

using a system dsn as opposed to a dsn-less connection can also cause BIG issues. always use a DSN-LESS connection

you can also have big problems if just the database file is given permissions instead of the whole directory it is in

also, the script timeout has nothing to do with it.. if that is happening something is wrong with the data connection like I said... no amount of changing timeouts is going to cure it...

how permissions are correctly set
http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_2003_server_and_ permissions.asp

why system dsn's with access databases are bad news
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo9-1.htm

I know it worked at 1st but it can still be related to all of this because when permissions are not perfect databases will work ok for a while and then act up. it all has to do with the temporay lock files that access creates and deletes on a regualr basis

Hi

I've tried almost anything here... I'm using an online SQL SERVER database with ASPProtect 7, and I can't login after my initial creation of the admin account.

It works fine with Access... I believe I have checked all the fields created by the sql statement (which was run with no errors),

What could be the problem here? could it be a problem that I run my local IIS against the online sql server?

sincerely,

Morten

, Thats what I needed.  Thank you!, Humm, its hard to explain but I am not sure that is a good way to be testing that. I hear what you are saying but I am not sure that really means anything. Whatever is going on its some sort of client side issue with the browser and the meta refreshing over a very long period of time during which there really is no user doing anything at the site. , the email address thing could be done many ways... personally I would remove the username field from the registration form.. and modify things so the email field got used for username and for email when everything gets saved on the page that register.asp posts to. ... it would all require some messing around with the code and time... nothing too hard really

as for the password thing it all happens in the register.asp file.. the same page the registration screen is on in the web browser.. again a little bit of fooling around and time but not difficult ,

Dear Support Team

I have read and Installed your v8 banner software

exactly as explained on XP pro which contains other asp working app.

I have problems with the " Application " and " Session" in your scripts

things that make the iis fall dead.

also in the file asp _unlimited_config.asp

you have exlained that every thing must be kept without the "" marks.

well i get http 500 error cause of it.

Please advise

Thanks

Ran

,

You are not supposed to use "../" with a virtual include

Thats goes against what a virtual include is and makes no sense.
When using a virtual include you give the path as if accessing from the root of the main web / virtual directory

I find it very hard to believe it ever worked like that and if it ever did it was wrong.

cwilliams38434.6703356481,

OK.  If no return page is set, do they end up on a PayPal confirmation page and have to navigate back to my site by going Back or typing the web address?

Nick

, I really need more information..

SQL or Access database ?
If Access are you using the newest version of the .mdb file

Is this a new item ?

Show me your connection string ?

perhaps the url to the site as well so I can look around?

things like that that will help me troubleshoot.

If any info is sensative send me a PM..

, Sounds crazy. I recently took over this web site and all IT duties. User today said member area was not working. All pages would not display. After restoring some files I got the members area partially working. But I cannot find where the database sits. I am able to get in and view users in the admin are and log in as a member. Thanks.,

one last thing... if you did an upgrade from a previous version and didnt do the whole database field thing right during the upgrade process as stated here you could have trouble.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo174-1.htm

Meaning you should check your new database with the field structure of an unmodified new database and make sure all field names match up perfectly.. especially paying attention to the username and password fields

One last thing..
If you did an import via text file and didn't import all the fields ASPProtect needs you could possibly have problems as well.. though I don't think this relates to the timeout so it probably is not the case

,

I don't believe that the iframe method is supported in a .NET (aspx) implementation, is it?

JDooley

,

If you can would you do it for a price as a mod or will this be added to the new version.

,

Trying to make sense of this.  I am still confused.  In the file config_inc.asp.  I found the setting for "uploaddirectory".  That entry looks like this [UploadDirectory = CmdGetConfiguration("UploadDirectory")].  I assume there is a config file where the value of upload directory is located.

The settings in the config_inc.asp file have not been changed.  they are set to the way it was delivered.  Is there a document that gives instructions as to what and where the config settings are to be changes?

,

I just took a look and that is definetly what happened.
It has nothing to do with the registration process as far as I can see.

Just running this page triggers it and I know it does not do that the way it comes.
http://www.myvirtualtutor.com/aspprotect/users/user_area.asp

Please back up what you changed and put the user area back the way it came..

If error still happens then I can help you.. It it works fine with the default files from the zip archive then you messed something up in the code.

You have to be really careful when working with ASP code.

Also: just in case you did this. " you should not be password protecting any files in the users area that are already there " the users area does it's own thing and there is no reason to be doing anything like that to the files that are already there. You can do whatever you like to files you add on your own.
