My guess it they are runnign some sort of ad blocking software like norton ad blocking. Something on the client side blocking ads or anything with the word ad in it.

Just bought ASPProtect 7.0 last week and just got around to installing it. I've gotten through the installation and am now trying to test the (Forgot Password) functionality.
I get the following error when I type in the e-mail (or in some cases the username) and Post the form.
Error was [11004] Valid name, no data record of requested type
I know that the add user functionality is pointing to the correct database (I see the additional rows via SQL Enterprise Manager) and that the e-mail address I am looking for is in the SQL database.
Any ideas? Any other information you need?

I do not even see ASPUpload listed but when I run the test_asp_components.asp from the extras/more_component_info folder, it shows that it is installed.
, It's just a generic error that means one of 1000 different things is wrong.. there is a lot of information on in in these forums as well as links to articles about it.

usually it means permissions to the database folder are incorrect or the physical path you are specifying for your dsn-less connection is invalid..

cwilliams38370.5271296296, I would like to create a login form on the home page which will not be password protected to the site for members so that they can login right from the home page and not a password protected page like many sites have. And every portal I have seen.
Plus the login form looks really pretty and proffesional on the home page  ...
I can't find anything in the documentation that says how to do this or if it's even possible. Everything I have found says to password protect a page and then direct them there which isn't what I would like to do.

Does anybody know what values I would put in the form to send the correct login to AspProtect. And, if I would have to add any extra includes or code to it.
TIA  , I did all that you sugessted and all failed, you said "I did a sign up.. your verify URL is not saved/set in the application variables. is this somthing I can change manually? below are the steps I performed......
1 - made sure the web is it's own application in IIS
2 - Reset IIS in command promt
3 - Restarted the server, the only thing is I have not waited perhaps long enough for it to kick in. but it should have with the restart.
I am running windows 2003 on the front end with wondows 2003 and Exchange 2003 on the back end, is there anything else that may be causing this issure?

it would be nice if there was an option for login abuse, where a login account would be flagged if it logged in from x number of different IPs over a period of time. I know many have dynamic IPs, but there's got to be a balance between legitimate logins and logins that are 'shared' for the sake of saving money (I sell subscriptions), in the end costing me.
Maybe searching the first two number groups in the IP (example, 209.168.*.*), and if finding more than an admin specified number of logins per week from IPs with different first two groups, the record would be flagged or locked...
, thanks!, Another good tip is to make a copy of the "password_admin/default.asp" named whatever you like..
"default2.asp" would work...
then maybe add a link to it from the header_inc.asp file
then you can modify that one all you want and your will still have the original around.
That concept works for a lot of things.. for example you could make a copy of the "users" folder and call it "users2" granted a few paths might need to be changed here and there but really not a lot. (how do you think the paypal signup folders were created, they started as a copy of the "users" folder of course)
You can even make a copy of the "check_users_inc,asp" file if you like. Then make a copy of the "scripts/login_form_inc.asp" file... then make your new "check_user_inc.asp" file reference it.
Then you can password protect pages using different versions of the "check_user_inc.asp" file. Why ? well maybe you want different looking logn forms for different parts of your website or you want to make a lot of changes to the "check_user_inc.asp" file and want to leave the original alone.
The sky is the limit really. When it comes down to it besides the actual guts of the "check_user_inc.asp" file ASPProtect is nothing but html tags and chunks of simple server side code that produce more html dynamically. What your browser ends up with is basic html. , that wont work the way you did it because groups are not stored like like.
groups are stored "*1*"
or "*1*,*9,*"
so if you test for them you must do so using the InStr function of vbscript
example:

also.. as for the session variable
it should be Session("Groups")
And in Version 6.... (its all ready to go in version 7) that session variable must be saved in the check_user_inc.asp file near where all the others are saved. If it is not there by default "I dont remember if it is or not" you have to add it like so near where all the others are saved
Session("Groups") = CmdCheckUser("Groups")

Sure go ahead , I really can not support it because you made that modification and it probably directly relates to the issue your having.
There are many issues that can be caused when dealing with encryption. Sometimes the encrpted passwords can end up with problematic characters. etc etc Maybe the users are changing there passwords to ones that do that... after you fix them.. Its hard to say
I know as I had to sort things like out when I designed version 7 which has built in encrpytion.
It could be anything really.. since you made changes like you sorta need to figure out what is backfiring. There has to be a reason.

provided you arent trying to grab the injectbanner page through an iframe call which is only for use with the javascript method of calling banners , As an update to this thread I fixed the "upload_post.asp" page quite some time ago but forgot to post the updated file here.
So here it is.

After all these are ASP scripts we are dealing with and the product is called ASPProtect.
The web site says it is used to protect ".asp" pages
And the directions tell you to put the protection code on ".asp" pages.
ASP can not run in ".html" pages
If you do not know basic things like this you should really learn the basics of ASP before you try to use the application. I would suggest a good book or two. ASPProtect is for people that have at least some experience with Active Server Pages. , Thanks for your rapid responses, your support is excellent!
It may be best that I stick with html then. You mention that is stresses the Version 7 software, would the unlimited version perform any differently if I use multiple zones?
Also, if I do go with a single zone, would either program be able to make sure each banner is unique, or would there by duplicates for each page view?

This is an Expirmental MOD for ASPBanner Version 7.3 Only
Do not use it on other versions....
It encodes CODE Banner information before saving it into the application variables that handle banner rotation. It then decodes that information before displaying them on your web pages.
The reason for this is SOME very complex javascript does not always save correctly into the application variables that rotate banners (even when not using the JavaScript Method to display the banners)
This way the javascript or whatever you entered comes out on your web page exactly as you entered it and runs correctly.. but there is little more processing going on to handle the encoding and decoding. But its probably nothing to worry about and won't effect performance at all.
Unless your having a problem don't use this mod. It is not officially supported in any way.

Additionally...any page you password protect automatically becomes a login page... where you want to start and where you send them after or before login is something you have to handle on your own
Any pages you pasword protect will prompt the user for login info if they are not yet logged in that is.
Then once logged in it returns them to the same page they are showing the page content as it would normally appear.

In the top section a big banner and a small banner
At the bottom a serie of 5 banners.
My question: is it possible to place a list of banners (let's say 8 banners) and randomally pull 5 banners each time the page loads?
If yes please explain in detail.

if it was working and now you can not edit or write new data to the database it is most likely permissions

Thanks , Is it possible to set the user account time limits when they register? I am using email verification and am trying to have their accout expire 32 days after their initial login.
Also I have an issue with the email notification not notifying me when a new user logs in. It does a beautiful job notifying the new user. I do not understand why my server will send to one and not the other, I ahve searched the links but none seem to answer this.

Yes, that is how it works. Unless you make modifications to the code there is no way to easily do what you are talking about.
If you design the site to be intelligent that scenario should never happen.
For example.. you should only be offering links to pages that the current logged in user has access to. You do this by checking the session variables and with simple if-else logic around your html links.
It requires some work but if you dont give them links to pages they dont have access to what you are talking about will not happen.
Here are some simple examples.

Help., ok, so from your PM Iknow you are using SQL server with IIS5.
You say you created the SQL database using the provided scripts and that is good.
What is going on may just be a weird odbc issue that sometimes happens on IIS5 when using SQL server and I have an idea on how to remedy it.
Edit the "config_inc.asp" with notepad.
Change

And lets see if that helps the situation.
it will change some SQL String query values in the application from "-1" to "1"
either should always work but under certain scenariois only one or the other works, I would highly suggest setting up a DSN-LESS connection.
That system dsn is most likely the source of your trouble It is probably that or permissions are still not correct.
I can't tell you how many people have had trouble with system dsn's and finally set up a dsn-less connection and everything then worked as it should.
The location of your database is fine as long as permissions are truly set correctly like I mentioned.
Also, be sure you are setting the database type correctly in the dataconn_inc.asp file. That can cause problems as well as some people have been known to delete that line.

This application works with this software. I host my site with a
private hosting company named 'Intermedia.net' and this is what I had
to do to make this application work.
1 - Change email settings to 'SASMTPMail' installed
2 - Find all instances of the following code:

As a matter of fact I dont see any banners showing up for any zones previous to 6 which tells me either you dont have valid banners in there or the application variable info got corrupted do to a server crash / power off or something.

You have mentioned in the past that several other methods might be a better option for asp pages.
Examples would be: XML Parser Method or asphttp method.
I was wondering if it is possible to use the javascript method on my non-asp pages and maybe the asphttp method on the asp pages and all in the same Zone?
Or, is it possible to use the asphttp method on all pages, whether they are asp or not?
I'm just trying to figure out what is the most efficient way to use the banner system.
Or maybe should I just keep it all javascript method?
Any helpful feedback would be appreciated!
