Different Versions of the Access Database
Below is a zip file with many alternate versions of the Access Database provided to help with installation and general usage.
2005-02-20_155310_ASPProtect_Database_Versions.zip
ASPProtect.mdb is saved as an Access97 database (password "temp")
ASPProtect_access2000.mdb is saved as and Access 2000 database (password "temp")
ASPProtect_access2000.mdb is saved as and Access 2002-2003 database (password "temp")
ASPProtect_access2002_no_password.mdb is saved as and Access 2002-2003 database with no password set on it
Try to use the newest version as server odbc drivers sometimes have to use the newest version for everything to work correctly. No password version is provided because sometimes there are issues connecting to a database with a password set on it.
Default username for access databases is of course "admin" but you really dont use that except in the data connection information.

Is that you may have the path to the server include file correct but ASP server side code is not executing in that part of your web site.
You can do a simple test to tell if it is...
Make a simple ".asp" page in the same folder.
Put only this code in it.
<% Response.Write ("ASP is executing") %>
then run the page via the web browser thru the server..
If the text prints out ASP is running... if you don't see anything it is not

, The mass picyure import does not work like that. It involves no uploading component.
Only an admin can do a mass import on an album and they have to ftp the images into the site in that upload folder before they go do the mass import thing. , Message :
I purchased the V8 of the software yesterday. It is running on a 2000 Server with a MSSQL database. It is installed and I get the successful connection to database screen but when I click to enter the admin. console I continually get:
"Connection string not saved in (data/config/aspbanner_unlimited_config.asp) file.
Most likey the data folder does not have proper permissions set on it.
That folder and all of the folders within it need (R,W,X,D) Permissions set for the anonymous webserver account.
These permissions can generally only be set by your hosting company."
I can save the string manually by hitting the button and I have checked that I have granted the proper access permissions. Any suggestions?
Ken, I have ASPPhotoGallery installed. Everything has been working great for some time. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, I am not getting the "Hits" incremented when a user opens an album. It works when an administrator is logged on. Does not for any anonymous users. Everything else seems to work fine. Again, this used to work. Any ideas. , I am running into problems with the import function. I have 25 photos loaded into the import folder. The page see all of the photos. But after I click on the import process it takes me Picture Manager with no pictures loaded. The groups field need to be set the exact same way it would look like in the database of course
So, if a user was part of groups 1, and 2
You would look in the database and see this in the groups fields for that user
*1*,*2*
so in the signup code you set that like so
CmdAddUser.Fields("Groups") = "*1*,*2*"
This info only applies to resgitrations and signups using the "users" folder.
if you wanted to make different sceanrios you would need to carefully make a copy of the users folder and adjust it accordingly
, So do I just replace the four folders that came with aspprotect with the four (in my case domain directory) folders in the patch or just move the files?, Is there a way to upload photos to individual user directories? I don't want all the picture files in a single directory.

and that is probably the root of this entire problem.. the redirection was working...

if you look over the aspprotect 7 installation instructions that is the very 1st thing I tell people to do

, Using just ASP (Form Based Authentication) you can only protect the actual content of the ".asp" files.
You can however use some ASP tricks to stream other types of files to the users.
That way the actual file locations are never known and they can only get them/see these files when they are logged in as you would be streaming files to them after they logged in.
Below are informative links I have collected on the subject in an email I sent to another customer a while back.
Using Active Server Pages you can only protect ".asp" pages.
You can however password protect ".asp" pages that stream files to the user using code like in these examples therefore keeping the actual file name a secret.
And from another email I sent...
ASPProtect only protects the content of ".asp" pages. Directory protection is not possible using just ASP.
Other file extensions can not be protected using just ASP.
There are ways to get around this.
You'd want to do a technique like this to stream non ".asp" files to the users.
The safileup component from softartisans can actually do something similar as far as streaming the files go.
Then use something like ASPProtect to protect the ASP files that streams the files.
The actual location of the files is never known to the users and of they don't have access to the asp pages they can not see or get those other types of files.
Very doable, but nothing ASPProtect takes care of automatically.

I need to know if it is possible to limit the upload to images where their height or width is less than 500 PIX. , I am still a little confused... one thing I would like to mention is that the passwords in the aspprotect database are encrypted... meaning you cant just add a password to the user database by hand because it wont be the encrypted value and wont work.
It is something the application takes care of when you add a user via the web based interface.
You can however still add users manaully or with careful import/exporting... but you will have to use the existing password conversion technique which is covered at the end of our upgrade instructions in these forums.

Basically you want to add a field to the "ASPP_Users" table called "Old_Password" and that is where you enter the password in plain text. Then after you are finished adding users to the database manually you do this.
You want to run a special page via the browser.

, humm, those are some very big images to be starting off with but I am not sure that would cause a problem under the importing scenario
what width are you having the system resize them to ?
What happens when you upload a image manually (one a t a time)
Also, try the import process out with some pictures no bigger than say 1024 and lets see what happens

The import/export file must be tab delimited with no text qualifiers. The 1st row containing field names and the following each being a new user. To create your own import file it must be in this exact format. To find out what field names and their order are simply create an export file using ASPProtect and take a look at it. You can also import that text file into MSACCESS. , btw: who is this hosting company anyway ?
and did they give you access to a control panel that lets you manage your site ? sometimes that is where you manage those permissions if their interface supports it
lastly, are frontpage extensions installed in your web so it can be connected to via frontpage ?
, while technically that shouldnt be showing that with two slashes that is actually valid and will not effect whether that feature works or not.
so if you are getting an error that is not the reason.. as far as windows is concerned // is the same as slash in that scenario?
what is your error? I need details. Like some code and an error at a line number ?
99% of the time it is permissions and sometimes it is related to the filesystem object being disabled on the server or script blocking software such as norton antivirus , It works. Thanks Chris.
, I'm in the process of incorporating the ASP Gallery functionality within my current site design.
To begin this process I'm taking each page and I'm wrapping the ASP
Gallery code with my site design [essentially I'm allocating this
application the center of the page]. When I pull in the
default.asp into the site the contents of this page make the entire
page too wide. I can't see where ASP Gallery assigns itself a
width.
I'm working on this as a side project so I'm not terribly far along
since I need to change all of the font assignments within the system to
style assignments and it's a slow go.
Any insight would be a great help, there's a lot of re-write in what I'm doing and i don't want to affect functionality.

, I am up to speed on how it works. My goal was to not have just a link to a protected page- so that when a user clicks it they get the "access denied" screen and then have to log in. My goal was to avoid that if possible by having them log in and then redirected to the protected page.
So this isnt possible? The only way for it to work is for a user to click a link to the protected page, get the denied screen, then login and be redirected?
Or is there another way..?
I made my point by rebuttling your "cafepress" with agreeing "YES" that is what i want... now you are changing this around on me. I dont think i can be ANY clearer in what i intend to do. It is extremely clear and i am not sure why its becoming more than it should be. I just want the user to be able to log in from ANY PAGE ON THE WEBSITE AND THEN BE REDIRECTED TO THE PROTECTED PAGE IF THE HAVE THE PROPER CREDENTIALS. It would be nice if this software gave an error message when an incorrect username/password was entered instead of simply refreshing the screen.

, If you bought ASPBanner Unlimited Version 7.3 Before August/01/2004 this file needs to be updated.
It fixes a bug where CODE type banners do not work correctly with a weight higher than 1.
Basically, blank banners will rotate and you will see nothing sometimes.
Copy this file into your ASPBanner folder over the existing file of the same name.

You did put this in a plain folder in your web, correcct ?

Regarding the application settings for the virtual directory.. if it is your server you set that stuff up in the IIS console.
If hosted somewhere it is there responsibility to have that set up correctly for you and you need to contact them and ask them what the deal is.

, Along with being able to set an expiry date or number of impressions, is it possible to add another option for a banner to be "non-expiring"?
With our current ad software (which we are transferring all data from to ASPBanner), we run banners for both paid advertisers, and for our own services. The banners relating to our own services, we would like to set to "non-expiring" so they appear all the time. , I tried the iFrame method that you have shown, and it works great!!!!, Yeah sorry you are right. The reason is obvious, the file is called aspprotectlogin.aspx. It is self advertising for your product which is against the law for me to do on a government support website such as mine. Every other login system I have come across uses the login.aspx file. If I can’t change it I will file with the credit card company and return your product. , Personally, I think that is something you should work into your existing site code or something you should handle on your own.
It's basic site maintenance issues.. and something every webmaster must deal with on an individual basis. If you are going to upload a new version of some large file of course you should go disable wherever people are dloading it from and then wait/re upload/turn things back on.. etc etc
It is not going to be a feature of ASPProtect and I don't see why it should be. If you want to have some sort of global site is temporaily down thing you should have a common server side include on all your pages right after the password protection include file. In that include file you could easily stop site access with a response.end and also show a message.
Or you should disable a file download page manually on a file to file basis.
Really, big busy sites that have their sh*t together use versions of files for a reason. Every new upload is a slightly new version revision and has a slightly different file name They do this partially to eliminate the problem your talking about and also because that is the way it should be done. Nothing gets uploaded over itself ever. Even if there is a mistake in a file they upload a new revision and document it in the revision/changes file. And of course they dont show users a link to a new file revisions until it is uploaded.

In the mean time try connecting to the access database with no password on it as well as the access 97 version that I put in the data folder... and see if it runs any faster...screens like the user screen should load fast... not after 15 seconds of waiting like they seem to be doing right now
If none of that helps which it probably wont I can set up the database for you here including the importing later tommoro when I am done pouring concrete
, Simply not possible, that feature is one of the most complicated things I have ever coded. I am very serious when I say that. There is simply no way to make it do that without spending like 80+ hours on the code and even then I do not know how it would work.
