After you click the link in the confirmation e-mail you are directed to
the Thank you page. Right above is a sign in link. When I
click this I get that funky error message.
I am trying to integrate the scripts with the look of my
site, if that is what you mean by changing things around too
much. But, I don't think I have done anything out of the ordinary.
Cheers,
Roy
, ok, then I need more information.
Was the code changed ? Thats the big one. If it worked and now it doesn't something must have changed. Things just don't stop working on their own. I would try putting the original files back in there for everything but the config and dataconn files just to make sure and see and if it works with the original files. (back up your old ones 1st so you can copy them back of course)
Also, perhaps PM me the site info so I can go look as well. ,
Version 7 uses.. RC4
The upgrade process is described here in detail including a procedure to convert existing clear text passwords to the encrypted versions. (Your passwords will need to be clear text as the system shipped of course for the conversion to do its thing)
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/info24.htm
It is also covered in the downloadbale docs http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo221-1.htm
Many people have done the upgrade without any issues and Version 7 is getting great feedback.
Should you decide to go with it there is upgrade pricing. http://www.aspprotect.com/purchase_v7_upgrade_pricing.asp , Upgrade from V6 to v7.x with an MSSQL SERVER DATABASE
1st of all, backup your existing ASPProtect files and database before performing this upgrade. Please be really careful while performing this upgrade. Version 7.x is a highly advanced application compared to any previous versions. CJWSoft under no circumstances is responsible if you lose information or have website downtime.
BOTTOM LINE: (PERFORM THIS UPGRADE AT YOUR OWN RISK)
To do this upgrade you're going to need to have SQL Enterprise Manager and SQL Query Analyzer
That being said, on with the upgrade..
Open your SQL database in SQL Enterprise Manager
Regarding the following Tables
Rename "Users" to "ASPP_Users" Rename "Groups" to "ASPP_Groups"
If you do not have a "Groups" table do not worry about it right now.
Now right click and DELETE the Config Table. Yes, delete it..
Now, go into Design View for the "ASPP_Users" Table.
Rename the "Password" field to "Old_Password" Be sure to spell it perfectly using the Underscore
If you have a "Groups" Field... leave it alone If you do not have a "Groups" Field add one and make it a "nvarchar" field with a lengh of 255.
Now, we are going to add a few more new fields.
Add a field called "Redirection_URL" make it a "nvarchar" field with a lengh of 150. Add a field called "PayPal_Subscriber_ID" make it a "nvarchar" field with a lengh of 100. Add a field called "Newsletter" and make it a "bit" field Add a field called "Password" and make it a "nvarchar" field with a lengh of 100.
Now close that window and save the changes..
Download these scripts. 2005-02-23_171110_aspprotect_v7_sql_upgrade_scripts.zip
Now open up SQL Query Analyzer Connect to your SQL server.
Then load the script "aspprotect_v7_config_table.sql" into the Query Analyzer. Click the green play button at the top. If everything goes well the response should read something like this.
****************************************************** (1 row(s) affected) ******************************************************
Now, if you had a Groups Table your done with the database changes.
If you didnt have a groups table.
Then load the script "aspprotect_v7_groups_table.sql" into the Query Analyzer. Click the green play button at the top.
Now, go back to your database in Enterprise Manager and make sure all 3 tables are there and look ok. You might need to do a refresh or two to see them.
Now make sure an existing or new SQL user has (public / datareader / datawriter) permissions for all three tables. You reference this user in the asp code connection string so this user must be set up correctly. You may need your SQL server admins or hosting company to help you on this step as you may not have access to do this. You may not need to create a user and set permissions as the sql user you were logged in as to use query analyzer may by default get the correct permissions on anything you create.
Regardless, as you can see from this screenshot I have a SQL user called "aspprotectuser" and proceeded to set the permissions for that user. Under database access giving him (public, datareader, and datewriter permissions).

Now, you are done upgrading your SQL Server Database.
The existing passwords still have to be encrytped and moved from the "Old_Password" to the "Password" field
To that we have a special page we run in the application that will take care of that.
So, for now... go install the application, but using the database we just created. Follow these instructions for the most part... http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=181& ; ;PN=1
When you get to the part where you finally get into the admin area and need to make an admin account you will notice that your existing user database is there but none of the users have passwords if you look at them in the edit screen.
That is normal. Simply do what the instructions say and create and admin account using a username that does not exist..
Then log off... then back in as that new admin account. If that works you are ready to convert the passwords.
This part is very easy.
You want to run a special page via the browser.
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/convert_to_encrypted.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
Once you get the page running you will see a login prompt and one form field just like before with the "get_me_in.asp" page
You will need to paste the "PasswordEncryptionKey" value that you used in the "config_inc.asp" file in the form field and hit enter.
If all goes well you will see a page telling you to click here to encrypt the passwords and copy them over.
So do what it says... dont click more than once and wait.
Eventually it should say it is finished. So go log in to the admin area of the system using the new admin account.
Now edit some users but dont save... you want to see if the passwords are showing up. If they are the conversion worked. If you see nothing or a garbled mess it did not work and you made a mistake during this whole process.
If things went well backup and delete the conversion file below.
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/convert_to_encrypted.asp
You do not need it anymore.
Once you are positive every thing is running smoothly and everyone's passwords are ok you can go in and delete the "Old_Password" field as well.
If things didnt go well.. try again from scratch and go slowly. If they still dont go well get ahold of us for help.
We are here to help, but if you really want us to we can be hired to do the conversion. , On the banner rotation order screen it says:
"The Order Of These Banners Will Change Randomly From Time To Time"
Can you tell me the function that does this? I'd like to increase the frequency with which the rotation order changes.
Thanks! , If logfiles do not get created it is most likely one of 3 things
- invalid physical path specified
- permisssions
- filesystem object is disabled on the server
that path doesn't look correct to me for a live professionally set up server but only you or your server admins can know that for sure
you will not get any errors when things arent perfect.. just no physical logs
RecentActiveUsers and RecentPageRequrests are not related to the stored logfile feature.. Recent Activity is a different thing , If you code support for it yes, the application comes with no paypal code or support built in.
If you think it will help you, you are welcome to a copy of the classic asp version which supports paypal subscriptions. Perhaps looking at the code would help you. , I am trying to understand how/where the "Log_Off_URL" variable is set
I have searched the forum for that string but don't get real good
results...I think the _'s are replaced with spaces for the search.
I am learning how to use the groups options and have modified some of
your example access level examples to test out group stuff. At the
bottom of the default.asp page I see a "LOG OFF SYSTEM" link that is
filled with a link stored in the Log_Off_URL variable and it looks
like that is being set back to the default.asp file somehow. So when
I click on it it just refreshes the page and appears to keep my user
logged in.
Seems like it should log out the user and redisplay the
login page. Is there a way to log totally off and have the login page
show up again? I am sure I am missing some obvious thing
somewhere...I can see where the Log_Off_URL variable is being created
in the config_inc.asp file but did'nt know where to look for more
info. Can you point me to an existing forum link?
Thanks!!
, As an update to this thread I fixed the "upload_post.asp" page quite some time ago but forgot to post the updated file here.
So here it is.
2005-09-16_165913_upload_post.zip , from the import page in the admin area.
The import/export file must be tab delimited with no text qualifiers. The 1st row containing field names and the following each being a new user. To create your own import file it must be in this exact format. To find out what field names and their order are simply create an export file using ASPProtect and take a look at it. You can also import that text file into MSACCESS. , Really, only you or your hosting company would know that information...
It is usally installed in the "_database" folder but the physical path including the drive letter to that can only be known by asking your hosting company or by using server mappath to learn the path on you own. http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/physical-path.asp
That folder also needs special permissions. The permissions it needs are covered in the documentation for the software and generally only your hosting compnay can set those permissions.
The online support forums here are full of information and resources on correctly setting up data connections. It is ASP 101 and something you really need to have an understanding of.
I am happy to answer questions and try to help, but if you dont want to deal with it or can't we do offer installation services.
http://www.cjwsoft.com/installation_service.asp
, Wondering what might be causing a long delay to display the login screen? This does seem to be intermittent. Could be server/ISP related? Have experienced enough times to justify posting this question.
I can count up to 20 seconds after clicking on the link. After login all other selections zip right along without problem.
http://gibsoncity.us/aspbanner/
Thanks, Lance lancem38319.6117939815, check the connection string in the dataconn_inc.asp file. If using MSAccess it will show the location. If using SQL Server it will show the SQL Server details in which case there is no physical database file., Has any one used the aspmail function to send emails from within your site? If so what did you use as the AspMail_Host string in the connections database?
thank you , As I'd said in my previous response, I found those databases and they didn't work. All three databases in asptest do work., I did the initial steps of downloading the sql scripts and running it in Query Analyser, tables created fine.
I can login for the first time. I exit from the browser and then I cannot login again. This happens for every user and admin. I noticed that the values in the fields "Login_limit" and "Active" in the ASPP_Users table in the SQL changed to NULL and 0 when login and remained in those values after close the browser.
So iam just struck not able to log in. Pls advice.
, I am confused.
Humm, how did ASPBanner 8 come with your purchase of ASPProtect ? That is not something I am aware of or something I do. Please provide more information on how you obtained ASPBanner 8. If I gave yu a copy for some reason please refresh my memory so I can go look up th emails about it. I need to know you have a valid license.
Now, as for the two not working together and the login screens messing with each other. I am even more confused. Tell me more as I just do not understand what you did ? ASPBanner has it's own user database and login system so there is no reason you should be mixing the two together as far as logins go. The two applications can certainly be in the same web together and not bother each other. ASPBanner can certainly serve banners to any pages you protect with ASPProtect or don't protect, but you certainly should not be protecting any ASPBanner code with ASPProtect code. ASPBanner already has code in it to do that. If that is the case don't do that. ASPProtect is not meant to protect code that already has a login system. That should just be obvious as far as I am concerned and hopefully you dintn't try to do that.
(you said you just put the directory in there but there must be more too this than that)
But again, tell me more. I can't really know everything ??
I just dont see how your ASPProtect pages could be effected by ASPBanner unless you really did something wacky like included the ASPBanner "check_user_inc.asp" instead of the one that comes with ASPProtect or overwrote it... etc ect
If in the same web aspprotect can be wherever and aspbanner needs to be in a folder called "aspbanner". There should be no conflicts under normal use and the two will essentially run seperate of one another. , Same here. Thinking it might be server load or the bandwidth to the server.
Thanks for checking! Lance , I cleaned up the code as you suggested, and I still can't get the images to display without the whitespace around it.
How do I download the ASP version? I'll give it a try.
Thanks for your help, JDooley , It seems that if a user attempts to access a page that is not in their access level or they do not have the group permission they are redirected to the login page. Re entering their ID generates an eror and they cannot go back to the pages they are alowed to access. Is there a way for them to simply be blocked and return to the previous page or to a defined page so they can continue using the site?
thankyou , yes, like macnap says.... you have to protect your ".asp" pages the way the directions tell you to...
and like in the "example" protected pages we provide
or they will not be protected and nothing will happen as far as ASPProtect goes
I guess I just didnt understand what you were talking about
, i took another look at the file, and realized that when i was looking at the data structure i had confused "banner_image_URL" with "banner_link_URL". i lengthened the latter, and now all is good.
sorry for the false alarm, and thanks for a very-to-work-with product.
, I did not make a mistake.. what I typed is what I meant to say. I think maybe you are taking it the opposite way as I explained it.
Regardless,
What you want to do... logging them in under https and then having them continue though the site under http is not possible.
It doesn't work that. way. As far as the webserver is concerned https is a totally different site than http and each have their own unique set of application and session variables.
In a sense no different than www.somesite.com is different then somesite.com (each has their own unique set of application and session variables as well).
Now, because of the nature of Forms Based Authentication session varibles created under one will not carry over to the over and thus no password access if you switch over from a secure url to a non secure url.
If you want them logging in under SSL you need to keep them under SSL.
That is not to say there is some ultra complex scenario to mimic the session variables on the non secure side of things (possible with a complex http post to a non secure page from the scure page telling it what variables to create and set), but doing so means a ton of work and also has security concerns of its own. , that really does not make any sense...
I dont know what else to tell you as this really shouldn't be anything too difficult to sort out...
redirection based on criteria is not something aspprotect does by default... I try to help a bit... I've shown everyone how to do it in this thread...I know plenty of people doing it... I've done it myself... I know it works
let me ask you this... are you using ASPProtect 6 with the Option Pack ? I assume you must be or you would not have the Groups feature ? And you asked this question in the ASPProtect 6 section.
but then maybe your using 7.. I do not know
this should all work the same either way , Hi Chris,
The hosting company has been doing some work apparently regarding the database connection issue. Still something is funky
When I type in www.vickerylightning.com/aspgallery/default.asp I get the custom 404 error page and I noticed that it is trying to open the following:
http://www.vickerylightning.com/skins/default/settings.asp
Is that what it is supposed to do?
Thanks! Rhona, the rookie
, I just did a quick google search... found a ton of info on how to find the setting. Here is one...
These are directions for IIS6 but the process is similar for IIS4-5
- Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
- Double-click your computer name in the left pane, and then double-click Web Sites.
- Locate the Web site and directory that houses the ASP application.
- Right-click the application site or directory, and then click Properties.
- Select Home Directory, and then click Configuration.
- Click Options, and then click to select the Enable Parent Paths check box.
- Click OK two times.
cwilliams38148.5822453704, where is your site ? I'll taka a look , 1st off.. you appear to have some strange things going on with that domain. Looks like you have a frameset and are loading another domain in it which is always confuding especially if you are running the site off your home computer or something... I am not sure
That aside..
If I go to
http://www.bones.myftpsite.net/rfamilystuff/default.asp
and click on the "familiy" category
then right click on a broken image.. look at properties
Your linking the image to your localhost
see
http://localhost/rfamilystuff/pictures/Pic_3_1_thumb.jpg
and that is wrong, just like I said above
Nobody running the site off any computer but your development machine is going to see those pictures because the url isnt valid for them
My guess is in the settings you have the "PictureURL" set to
http://localhost/rfamilystuff/pictures
when it should be
http://www.bones.myftpsite.net/rfamilystuff/pictures
Good luck with this.. I am going to the bar. If you need more help I probably will not be available until Monday. cwilliams38394.7688773148, Our knowledge base which is hosted at a remote location is protected by ASPProtect Full Version 6. I would like to allow our employee to access the knowledge base from within our internal network unchallenged. Is there a way which I can modify the code "check_user_inc.asp" to allow any one coming from say 10.1.X.X to access the site unchallenged?
Thanks,
Mo , Ahhh....yes, I always forget about the cache. That's exactly what it was.
I had made modifications to the import_pics.asp file, because I added more fields to the db, and made the import folder path dynamic, but I seem to have forgotten to add in the response.expires=0
Once I added this back in it has stopped messing up.
What was happening was, it wasn't overwriting the files, nor were they too big, but you would click on one thumbnail in an album(category) and it would display a picture from a totally different category. It seems browser cache was the culprit, however.
Thanks for the quick reply, great product tooo!!! , The login page sends the user to redirect.asp (which is as follows)
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% If InStr(Session("Groups"),"*1*") Then Response.Redirect("gp01.asp") End If %>
<% If InStr(Session("Groups"),"*2*") Then Response.Redirect("gp02.asp") End If %>
I am not being redirected to gp02.asp if I am a member of group2. Also, we wish users who are part of group 2 and 3 to go to a different page (ie. gp2-3.asp)
Thanks in advance.
, I really do not know.. maybe it is a conflict with something else..
I run many instances of aspbanner on my servers and I have every item to log enabled for my iis log files... my stats server software which reads those log files (livestats and smarterstats) have never reported any 404 errors related to (aspbanner/those images)...
I do not know what is happening in your situation..
sorry. , Now, back in the dark ages we had to use the command prompt to setup the MySQL database and all that fun stuff. I am not going to show you that method.
What happened was 100 different 3rd party companies developed interfaces to work with the MySQL server visually. Within the past year MySQL actually released its own little GUI for doing just that so I am going to show you how to do things using that.
Let's download and install it.
Go here http://www.mysql.com/products/tools/
and download Windows (x86) MySQL Administrator (1.1 is the most current version at the time of this article)
Installing that is a no-brainer as well. Just stick to the defaults and it will do its thing.
Now that it is finished.. run MySQL Administrator from your start menu.

It will ask for your "root" password that we entered when we set up the server.
Hit OK

You should see this if your MySQL server is runnign and you entered the correct password.
Now select the Catalogs Icon on the right.. go down to the Schemata section.. right click in the lower white area and choose Create New Schema

It will look like this

Essentially this is your database name. I am going to call my database "aspbanner"
Hit ok
Your now have a new database with nothing in it. We now need to run the MySQL database creation scripts that I provide which will create the Tables and Fields needed.
The easiest way when using the MySQL Administrator is to select the Restore icon on the left.

The choose "Open Backup File" in the lower right corner.. Browse to the "aspbanner_mysql.sql" file we provide. You can also download that file here. 2006-03-14_164927_MySQL_Script.zip
Once you select that file choose open...

Now, it is very important you choose the database you created earlier. Also known as Target Schema.. in this case I choose "aspbanner"
Now hit "Start Restore"

Ok, now the database has Tables and Fields
Click on the Catalogs Icon on the left and then select aspbanner from the schemata area in the lower left

You'll see we now have tables in the aspbanner database, enjoy the bar.. drink one for me.. cause that was the problem..
, I'll give it a shot within the next day or so. I'm busy with a few other things right now. You're right about just saving a copy before I start. It can't really hurt anything.
Thanks Chris. I'll let you know how it turns out.

, Chris, I'm having problems getting this to work. When I plug in the redirect URL and then try to load the web page, the Flash ad never loads successfully - just its black background in the 468 x 60 space. Here's an example of what I'm seeing:
http://www.innovationtools.com/Articles/ArticleHeadlines.asp
Just keep refreshing the page until the black rectangle appears. And here is the code I've loaded for this flash ad:
<OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase=" http://active.macromedia.com/flash2/cabs/swflash.cab#version =4,0,0,0" ID=banner WIDTH="468" HEIGHT="60"> <PARAM NAME=movie VALUE=" http://www.innovationtools.com/aspbanner/aspbanner/banner_re direct.asp?Banner_ID=25"> <PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=high> <PARAM NAME=bgcolor VALUE=#000000> <embed src=" http://www.innovationtools.com/aspbanner/aspbanner/images/ba nners/mindmatters_innovation3.swf " quality="high" bgcolor="#3CBDCD" WIDTH="468" HEIGHT="60" TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash" PLUGINSPAGE=" http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Pr od_Version=ShockwaveFlash"> </OBJECT>
What am I doing wrong? By the way, I'm using the standard version of ASPBanner. Not sure of the version, but it dates from about 2002. , I guess i am not being clear as to what i am trying to do. As far as the event thing... lets hold off on that for now. It seems Chris has answered my question and i am on my own for that one...
As far as the log in goes: I went to that site you mentioned;www.CafePress.com to see if they had what i was talking about. and they do. Notice on the bottom of the page it says "sign in to your account"
I want that option on my home page where users can sign in to go to their account. It will either take them to a page where they can update their info, or it will take them to a protected page. Pretty much instead of posting a link on the site to say... click here to go to members.aspx and have it return an "access denied" the user can enter their info from the main page and be automatically re-directed to that members.aspx page.
I know how the viewstate works and i also know what that returnURL thing does..pretty self-explanitory.
Hopefully that makes things easier. I just want a user to log in from the homepage and be redirected to either a protected page or their account page...
(as does that cafepress website) , MSACCESS or SQL server ?, I checked the option pack code as well and it looks correct. I tested it and it acted as it should.
You can see it in active at the live demo http://www.aspprotect.com/demo3/demo.asp
admin test
go the the admin area.. you will notice 3 users with level 4 access 1 of them is inactive
then go to the mass email area and pick active and level 4 it will say it is sending email to 2 users which is correct
then go to mass email again and pick level 4 and inactive it will say it is sending email to 1 user which is correct
choose any status and access level 4 and it will send email to 3 users which is correct
When you do this please realize you can not choose a group as well. That will cause a problem because you can not choose a group and an access level at the same time.
Anyway... perhaps you can private message or use the contact us form and and let me take a look at your system. Since I can't reproduce the behavior that is the only way we might figure this out. cwilliams38104.690787037, I am having severe trouble with the SQL database connection for ASPlisting (generic version).
I have used all of the suggested connection strings but still get error messages such as:
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]Specified SQL server not found.
I have set up the tables in the database, although the database existed already with many other tables in it as it costs me per database per month so one has to suffice with many tables in it.
I use SQL a fair amount on my site but have not suffered any probs like this yet.
Any advise or help would be useful. ,
