Any updates on this ?, Hi,
How do you know permissions are ok in that folder ?
Please tell me more on how they were set.
Please read through my article on how they are set correctly.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo136-1.htm
Often times they are not set correctly or people thingk they set them somehow but in fact did not do it the correct way.
I would also suggest using the "test_physical_path.asp" page in the "extras" folder to verify if the path you are using to the database mdb file is in fact correct. That page should work whether permissions are set or not. At least then you will know if the path is correct or not and you can go from there.
,
Well, thats not normal.
(it should work just like our online demo does)
Do you have everything turned on in the settings ?
Uploading needs to be enabled and you also have to pick a valid upload method.
, Okay thanks, I'll have to consider wether or not to go down the path of the upgrade or cut my losses as the Access cannot handle the pressure
It's just errored out again with the following message:
msxml3.dll error '80072ee2'
The operation timed out
/forum/banner.asp, line 15
Regards,
Dave
, ok.
sorry then..
I just had a series of fraudulant orders this past week including today and the whole thing has me on edge. (foreign people getting my code for free and doing who knows what with it) When you mentioned calling the cc company it pushed all the right buttons.
Merry Christmas, The code is ok..
Your getting an error because no banners are showing up in that zones rotation.
run this directly in the browser and you will see that there are no banners being generated for that zone ID
http://www.poconocommuter.com/aspbanner/aspbanner_inc.asp?Ba nnerZone=6
As a matter of fact I dont see any banners showing up for any zones previous to 6 which tells me either you dont have valid banners in there or the application variable info got corrupted do to a server crash / power off or something.

, 1st off.. you appear to have some strange things going on with that domain. Looks like you have a frameset and are loading another domain in it which is always confuding especially if you are running the site off your home computer or something... I am not sure
That aside..
If I go to
http://www.bones.myftpsite.net/rfamilystuff/default.asp
and click on the "familiy" category
then right click on a broken image.. look at properties
Your linking the image to your localhost
see
http://localhost/rfamilystuff/pictures/Pic_3_1_thumb.jpg
and that is wrong, just like I said above
Nobody running the site off any computer but your development machine is going to see those pictures because the url isnt valid for them
My guess is in the settings you have the "PictureURL" set to
http://localhost/rfamilystuff/pictures
when it should be
http://www.bones.myftpsite.net/rfamilystuff/pictures
Good luck with this.. I am going to the bar.
If you need more help I probably will not be available until Monday.
cwilliams38394.7688773148, Parent paths being enabled on the server is a requirement of the application. That error means just what it says.
you can change all the server side includes to virtual includes that will work or you can ask you host to enable parent paths.. those are the options
more here...

, Now, back in the dark ages we had to use the command prompt to setup the MySQL database and all that fun stuff. I am not going to show you that method.
What happened was 100 different 3rd party companies developed interfaces to work with the MySQL server visually. Within the past year MySQL actually released its own little GUI for doing just that so I am going to show you how to do things using that.
Let's download and install it.
Go here
http://www.mysql.com/products/tools/
and download Windows (x86) MySQL Administrator
(1.1 is the most current version at the time of this article)
Installing that is a no-brainer as well. Just stick to the defaults and it will do its thing.
Now that it is finished.. run MySQL Administrator from your start menu.

It will ask for your "root" password that we entered when we set up the server.
Hit OK

You should see this if your MySQL server is runnign and you entered the correct password.
Now select the Catalogs Icon on the right.. go down to the Schemata section.. right click in the lower white area and choose Create New Schema

It will look like this

Essentially this is your database name. I am going to call my database "aspbanner"
Hit ok
Your now have a new database with nothing in it. We now need to run the MySQL database creation scripts that I provide which will create the Tables and Fields needed.
The easiest way when using the MySQL Administrator is to select the Restore icon on the left.

The choose "Open Backup File" in the lower right corner.. Browse to the "aspbanner_mysql.sql" file we provide. You can also download that file here. 2006-03-14_164927_MySQL_Script.zip
Once you select that file choose open...

Now, it is very important you choose the database you created earlier. Also known as Target Schema.. in this case I choose "aspbanner"
Now hit "Start Restore"

Ok, now the database has Tables and Fields
Click on the Catalogs Icon on the left and then select aspbanner from the schemata area in the lower left

You'll see we now have tables in the aspbanner database, Nope,
No changes to any scripts - just a response.write added to Email_Password.asp to print out the SQL.
Sure - here's the address.
www.omegaphibeta.net/aspprotect/users/Email_Password.asp
-Toni
P.S. E-mail address to look for is serena_5@hotmail.com
, Yup everything looks ok - but why no error?
This just gets better - now the email a friend link says sent successfully and doesn't send out - what the heck...
What would cause it to 'think' it is doing the task yet still fail?
, Access Database Password
By default all of the Access Databases we give out have a default password of "temp"
The Default username that and Access database uses is "Admin" but you should not be concerned with that except in your connection strings.
The default password for the Access Database can only be changed using Microsoft Access to do so. If you have security concerns it would make sense to change the password. The help system built into Microsoft Access best explains how to do that.
cwilliams38403.6820833333, Really, only you or your hosting company would know that information...
It is usally installed in the "_database" folder but the physical path including the drive letter to that can only be known by asking your hosting company or by using server mappath to learn the path on you own.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/physical-path.asp
That folder also needs special permissions. The permissions it needs are covered in the documentation for the software and generally only your hosting compnay can set those permissions.
The online support forums here are full of information and resources on correctly setting up data connections. It is ASP 101 and something you really need to have an understanding of.
I am happy to answer questions and try to help, but if you dont want to deal with it or can't we do offer installation services.
http://www.cjwsoft.com/installation_service.asp
, I just moved servers and now my "code" ads are giving me errors...
"google_ad_width" is undefined.
I have tried adding the width and height... taking it out.. all the basic stuff.
Any ideas?
TIA
, Same here. Thinking it might be server load or the bandwidth to the server.
Thanks for checking!

, Can I have the logon be in a top frame while having the protected pages displayed in a main frame?
Using frames with forms based authentication is not the best thing to be doing. Your much better off not using frames and using includes files to do a virtual frames sort of thing (search google) but if you are going to use frames I would suggest password protecting the frameset page as well as any pages it contains.
If you want to have a login form in a non protected top frame all the time.. that posts to a lower frame that is password protected.. you would do this
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo169-1.htm
but change the target of the form to one of your frames
personally though I think that would be a somewhat goofy setup to have going on
Also, how will it behave if a user moves in between a protected page to a public page and back to the protected page again?
As long as they have cookies enabled which is required for session variables to work... then you will have no issues because once they come back to a page they have permission to they will just be allowed in without login.. at least while that session is still active.. or for a longer time if they choose the remeber me option which keeps track of them with a cookie .
Really, the best thing to do is expirment and see how things behave.
, We do not support customization of the code or any custom coding you may end up doing with Visual Studio.NET. However, if you can show me that the application functions incorrectly in its default unmodified form I can help. If not it has to be something you did most likely.
Though I do not if it is the issue, mixing c# and vb.net in the same project can be tricky if not problematic. It’s definitely just not something I can support.
If you have not seen it we have tuturial on setting up the project in visual studio.net.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo85-1.htm
I would suggest starting with a clean installation. Test everything to make sure the things you say are ok or not. (if not post here about it) Then try your hand at editing the application and compiling it. Keep the c# out of the mix at 1st.
I am not even sure if adding c# to the same project is feasable.
(maybe it is , maybe it isn't)
That being said.. ASPProtect.NET can of course be used to protect pages using c#. But compiling the ASPProtect.NET project with C# code added sounds a bit iffy to me. We wrote the application in VB.NET so you really need to use vb.net when making changes to it.
, far as I can tell it does... that session abandon thing called in the logoff page should be enough to cover everything
once thing to be careful about
If you log in.. then log off... then go back to a page and do a refresh... you may in fact be reposting the username and password from before.. thus logging yourself right back in
Perhaps not.. all depends on what your doing... but it is something to be careful of when testing
cwilliams38341.7390509259, sure and thats probably what you should do... that pure asp upload thing must not be able to handle the size of your import file... another thing which can very .. also some versions of IIS require registry changes to upload bigger files via asp code alone
, I downloaded the skins, ftp'd them to the skins folder and can see them in the list of available skins. No matter which one I try to apply it keeps solid_color_black.

, Is there a limit to how many access levels the program has? We were thinking of having a different access level for each client that logs on our site so we can customize their web experience. We see 6 in one place of the program, 8 in another, but is there any reason why we couldn't make 100 more?
Thanks again for the help!
, Not sure because of the nature of the javascript method
for starters tighten up the html around the banner call
change
<tr>
<td width="460" height="60" align="center" valign="middle" class="imagead">
<!------- ASPBanner Ad code ------------->
<script language="JavaScript">
var code = '';
var now = new Date();
var nIndex = now.getTime();
document.write('<s' + 'cript src=" http://www.nababaseball.com/aspbannernet/aspbanner/injectban ner.aspx?BannerZone=1&nocache=' + nIndex + '">');
document.write('</' + 's' + 'cript>');
</script>
<script language="JavaScript">document.write(jscode);</script >
</td>
to
<tr>
<td width="460" height="60" align="center" valign="middle" class="imagead">
<script language="JavaScript">
var code = '';
var now = new Date();
var nIndex = now.getTime();
document.write('<s' + 'cript src=" http://www.nababaseball.com/aspbannernet/aspbanner/injectban ner.aspx?BannerZone=1&nocache=' + nIndex + '">');
document.write('</' + 's' + 'cript>');
</script>
<script language="JavaScript">document.write(jscode);</script >
</td>
If that doesn't help I would suggest using the ASP 3.0 version of ASPBanner. It can serve banners to a any type of page extension and it runs just as well as the .NET version. There is a new iframe method for calling banners that you can try instead of the javascript. The iframe method is explained in the ASPBanner Unlimited section of the forum.
cwilliams38150.6443634259, if that account isnt there thats normal because if it doesn't have any permissions for that folder so it wouldnt be listed
you simply dig into the menus a liitle deaper and find it then add it.
cwilliams38417.6984606481, DONE IT
DON'T WORRY!
DON'T ASK HOW, BUT NOW IT WORKS!!
THANK YOU IF IT WAS YOU, OR THANK YOU GOD IF IT WAS ME!!!
, it is by design actually and something that can be improved
(I just never thought of it when I 1st designed the system and it is actually planned to be added in Version 8)
The trick would be to reset those session variables anytime someone edits and saves their information... not very hard at all
you would do it on the save code page for when a user edits themself.
you want to grab the info posted from the form and reset each session variable at the same time everything is re-saved to the database
example
Session("Company_Name") = Request("Company_Name")
, Is it actually possible, with your product, to password-protect the folder that has the actual database without having to require customers browsing the listings to enter a password, or will password-protecting the database folder prevent customers from browsing the classifeds listings?
, ok...
you got problems if you cant import a file created by the system..
You using SQL or MSACCESS and do any of the users data have apostraphes in it ?
, (Password Expiration Mod) for ASPProtect Version 7.x
This Advanced Mod requires decent knowledge of Databases and working with ASP. I originally wrote something like this for a customer on a custom project. I then took the time to re-write all the code from scratch so it could easily be plugged in to the current version of ASPProtect as an option. All in all this mod took me over 15 hours of time to develop and will save you a ton of time & money if you were planning on writing something like this on your own. Some parts of this were so difficult to get working that I would never have written this code if I was not paid to do so. (The encrypted array that rotates through the last 12 passwords was quite frustrating to get working)

The price on this is 19.95. I am not incorporating this into the base product because it makes things more complicated and isn't for everyone.
Purchase Page
Security is a big concern and making your users change their password every so often is a good idea. Keeping track of previous passwords they used and making them choose something they haven't used before takes the concept even further.
This Mod will add a password expiration date to the application. When the password expiration date is hit the user must confirm their old password as well as pick a new one before they can log in again.
There is a new password expiration directory where they must choose a new password that has not been used before. The new password must be confirmed during this process. (It remembers 12 old passwords the way it is coded) The old passwords are stored in the database in an encrypted array.
Directions:
Back up your existing ASPProtect installation.
Add two new fields to the "ASPP_Users" table in your database.
For an MSAccess Database
Password_Expiration_Date (Date_Time Field)
PreviousPasswords (Memo Field)
For a MSSQL Database
Password_Expiration_Date (smalldatetime)
PreviousPasswords (nvarchar 160 characters)
once that is done
Copy all the new ".asp" pages into your site.
Edit the "PasswordExpirationURL" variable in the "check_user_inc.asp" file
It needs to be the full URL to to the "change_password/default.asp" file
Now edit the "change_password/processchange.asp" file
There are 3 variables you can edit.
PageSentToAfter = "http://localhost/aspprotectmods/password_admin/default.asp"
PassMinLength = 4
PassMaxLength = 8
The "PageSentToAfter" is where you want them sent to after they change the password. It can be whatever you like.
If it is a protected page they should automatically get logged in with the new password they just changed to which is nice.
The other two values should be obvious.
That's it...
Just remember the password change thing is not used in the admin area...
You could easily add code for that on your own though by looking at the the password expiration code I added to the publics "check_user_inc.asp" file
Also:
You will see a new field to edit on the user edit screen for the Password Expiration of course. , When I go to set up a new user, my user name and password are already in the window. And I am un-sure why. I start a new browser, and again that my same user name and password is in that window., ok.. glad it is doing it's thing, I do not have any programming knowledge and have what might be a simple question.
I am having a hard time getting my hosting company to modify the rights on the data folder. They state they support ASP and access databases however this is the response I got when I requested the modify permissions set for the internet guest account:
Were the rights changed on the data folder? No, we do not manage rights to folders.
My question to you is: Doesn't supporting asp require those permissions be set on the database folder or can asp (not just aspprotect) work without those rights modified?
Thanks
,
I am not entirely sure how one configures
the system to assign a user to a specific group. For example, let say I
have created two groups A and B, and I have pages protected by the code
generated in the admin area for groups A and B. I know I can assign access
to these groups in the admin area.
However, it is not clear to me how I do it automatically
through the registration process.
, The links to view that info are on the main users screen of the admin area.
Down below...
They wont show up unless you have that stuff enabled in the settings screen as well.
, Hi Chris,
I've got a page with a form that includes an input field with
'type="file"' for uploading an image. The page posts back to
itself to save the info to the database and run the code necessary to
upload and resize the image.
I need to limit this page to a group. So like usual, at the top of the page I put:
<% GROUPACCESS = "1" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="../check_user_inc.asp"-->
This gives me the error: "Cannot call BinaryRead after using Request.Form collection"
I have used ASPUpload and SA-FileUP before and know that this is caused
by the components having their own .form collection. This script
is using "Pure ASP File Upload" from DMXZone for the upload which I'm
not familiar with.
So...my question is, do you know a way around the BinaryRead problem wtih ASPProtect?
Thanks,
Michelle
P.S. PLEASE don't send me to DMXZone for help....they've got notoriously bad support!
, also, from looking at your site your ideal scenario would be a system that allows you to show all banners in one zone at any given time but in a different order.
ASPBanner is just not that sort of system. It is only designed to show one banner at a time from a given zone in random order., thats a new one... I need some sort of error to go on..
No error ever ? It must eventually show something ?
, It's not working because i guess im copying the viewstate also...and it comes up
Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.
, ok.. so we got an NT server with a 486 with 256 meg of ram.
hehe sorry
anyway.. I have the system running without doing any importing and WOW is it chugging.. I mean it takes a while even to edit/save a user
good news is the filesystem object works as I wrote to a text file
this may end up being a simple case of lack of horsepower..
we may need to do the importing on a faster system and then take the database over cause everthing I see on your server looks correct
even so aspprotect is running so slow.. I have never seen it chug like this
I even tried connecting to a 2000 version of the database and no difference.
I am not totally sure what is going on but the server resources available are scaring me... however this could be something new in the code that I never got a chance to try on NT server.. I dont think so though
how does your other stuff run ?
static pages that do not access a database seem to serve up quickly.
are you running any other dynamic code ?
, Hello,
no default setting for something like that... what your thinking about doing is on the right track I'd say
, When a new user adds themselves to the db thru the registration page, no user id is assigned in the User_id field. I can't access the page on-line due to an user_id related error on the page. I must use access itself and add the user id. After that, everything works as expected.
What have I done?
