I apologize if I've missed this, but I would love to see the ability to auto-e-mail the advertiser at some randomly set interval before the banner expires. Ideally, I would also be cc'd on this e-mail so I can stay in touch. If the advertiser wants to renew, I can receive payment and change the expiration date without their banner ever falling out of service.
Since e-mail is already built into the program, would it be difficult to add a routine that checks for expiring banners at some daily interval, and contacts the advertiser?
To get really fancy, the e-mail could include the ability for me to add a button for paypal, allowing the advertiser to easily click and send off another payment.
Best,
Wayne , Protecting ASP Pages
To protect a page without using the Access_Level or Groups feature simply add this code to the top of that page.
Put this under the <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
This is an example of a File Server Side Include. You could also use a Virtual Server Side Include.
The following URL explains what Server Side Includes are. http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
Now when someone runs that page they will prompted to login. They will not be allowed access to that page until they successfully logged in.
An example of doing this is provided in the "default.asp" file included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code with a text editor to see the working code. It is quite simple.
Protecting ASP Pages Using Access Levels
To protect a page using the Access Level feature simply add this code to the top of that page. You simply specify the Access Level before the include file is called. In this example we are protecting the page with Access Level 4.
Put this under the <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<% CHECKFOR = "4" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
This is an example of a File Server Side Include. You could also use a Virtual Server Side Include.
The following URL explains what Server Side Includes are. http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
Now when someone runs that page they will prompted to login. They will not be allowed access to that page until they successfully logged in as a Level 4 user.
Examples of managing Access Levels are provided in the "multiple_access_levels" folder included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code of the ASP pages in that folder with a text editor to see the working code. Again, It is quite simple to follow.
Protecting ASP Pages Using Groups
Please see the code generators in the admin are for the code to do that. cwilliams38403.6864351852,
ok, well if you want to test on your own.... in the ipn.asp file for the subscription folder you will see this area of code used for testing
' Un-comment this section and give this directory proper permissions to enable logging to a text file ' Very helpful for troubleshooting ' Set ObjMyFile = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") ' LogFileName = ("paypal.txt") ' 'Open Text File.. If doesn't exist create it and append to it .. If exists just append to it ' Set WriteMyData = ObjMyFile.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath("paypal.txt"),8,True) ' RowHeaderString = "" ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & OrderID & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & Custom & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & User_ID & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & subscr_id & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & txn_type & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & subscr_date & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & Access_level & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & Groups ' WriteMyData.WriteLine(RowHeaderString) ' WriteMyData.Close
now that folder will need modify permissions for the text file to be written to but this is a good way to test if the ipn.asp page ever gets hit by paypal.
ITS REAL IMPORTANT THAT THE TEST FILE CAN BE WRITTEN TO OR DOING THIS WILL JUST CAUSE MORE ISSUES
To ensure the text file can be written to and permissions are correct for that folder you can make a new .asp in there and run this to see if the text file writing works
Set ObjMyFile = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") LogFileName = ("paypal.txt") 'Open Text File.. If doesn't exist create it and append to it .. If exists just append to it Set WriteMyData = ObjMyFile.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath("paypal.txt"),8,True) WriteMyData.WriteLine("the file was written to") WriteMyData.Close
Now, you can even change the location of the text file to place that does have permissions if you like.
This is what I would do if I was in there... then I would make some test payments using 1 cent and another paypal account (your allowed 2)
and see what happens
it is always possible the subscription code may have a bug in it. The last time I tested I only tested the single payment folder which worked perfectly. If I have time in the next couple days I am going to test the subscription stuff again. If there is something wrong I can cure it quickly.
The two routines share a lot of code in common. cwilliams38421.6488773148, It is common when testing a site that this happens because of the nature of session variables.
Admins have access to EVERYTHING so it is very important when testing different user accounts that you specifically log out... and then close every single browser window before logging in as a different user. This is to ensure session info from the previous user does not overlap in any areas. (The session variable for admin access being the main one)
Under normal circumstances a user would not log in with many different accounts on the same computer this this would only be a problem for a developer who is testing.
So make sure you go to the to log-off page and log off.. then close all browser windows.. then test another user.
If all this is not the case then something else is going on and I will need more information. I pretty much know the level checking code for ASPProtect Version 6 is correct as there has been no reason to change any of it in over a year. I would have heard reports of problems with it. , ummm.. ok.. Then this doesnt make sense. On two out of the three machines I have in house here, the images do not show up. They only show up on the server machine. I am using the constant url on all three machines. www.rfamilystuff.com Does it show up on your?
, sometimes those emails take a bit... all depend on wht you are using to send them and whether a pickup directory is involved
as for the other I do not know.. PM me the site details I can look
if it is a 2003 server parent paths must of course be enabled.. its a requirement of aspclassifieds , I sent you a PM, Hi,
We use ASP Protect to password protect the pages in the member area ( http://www.pti.org/members.asp )
Of late Once or twice every month our whole site goes down and it gives us a "Microsoft VBScript runtime error 800a006 Overflow: Clnt //global.asa line 33 " error message (with the friendly message turned off). When we reboot the web server things are up as normal.
But this is happening too frequently and creates a bad impression.
Any suggestions on how we could prevent this would be greatly appreciated. , Chris -
Long time no talk, which is a good thing. I have purchased another product from you, ASPVendor. I am running into an issues.
When I try and remove the image through the image manager, it does not remove it. Screen shot attached.
2005-10-19_194248_image_upload.zip
Thanks , Can you incorporate a secure log in within the scripting. I would like the account information to be secure without having to have the whole site using running through a secure (https://) path. If this is possible, the scripting is perfect! , that is good news... good guess on my part I guess
anyway, try this for your latest issue.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=340&KW =%2D1, dsn-less is the way to go.. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo9-2.htm
you also need to use newer versions of the database as the odbc drivers on the server are sometimes very new and no longer work with access 97 databases
, Yes, thats cool.. post it here for sure.
Also, the way you allowed for your search engine is clever and probably was the easiest way to go.
You could do the same thing with the IP. Much easieri than the way I was thinking of doing it.
, After you click the link in the confirmation e-mail you are directed to
the Thank you page. Right above is a sign in link. When I
click this I get that funky error message.
I am trying to integrate the scripts with the look of my
site, if that is what you mean by changing things around too
much. But, I don't think I have done anything out of the ordinary.
Cheers,
Roy
, Suprising I started this tread off on ASPImage, but I resolved my issue and forgot to change the thread topic. I will try your suggestion.
, I wonder why the banners in ASPBanner 8.1 are moving from one place to another when opening my site www.helserevyen.no in a Mac Safari browser and click on refresh?
Can you take a look at my site and response? , I was actually able to do similar thing by allowing our dedicated search engine to access the site unchallanged.
<% If Trim(Left(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_USER_AGENT"),11)) = "MYPASSWORD" Then SearchFlag = True End If If SearchFlag <> True Then If Session("Access_Level") > CHECKFOR or Session("Access_Level") = "" Then %> <!--#include virtual="/Auth/check_user_Code.asp" --> <head> <title>My Title</title>
</head>
<body>
My Protected stuff here
</body>
</html>
For this to work, the search engine must pass the PW to the web site. I just was not sure how to do the same thing with IPs. I will play with the code and see what happens. If it works, I will post it here to help others, if this is OK with forum rules.
Thanks,
Mo , Chris,
D'oh! How completely obvious!
I got it now. (In Step 4, by the way, you need to click on the web site, not the directory. The directory has its own Properties menu, which is competely different than the Properties menu for the web site.)
Thanks for the fast response!
Robert
, How do I recover or reset admin password used for the aspprotected pages. I have installed it months and months ago, but now can not recall the password. Any help appreciated, as I do not feel like installing it again. , Please Note : Users with the option pack a new feature called groups that is much more powerful than access levels.
More On Access Levels
Again, Examples of managing Access Levels are provided in the "multiple_access_levels" folder included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code of the ASP pages in that folder with a text editor to see the working code.
Access Levels and how they work can be re-coded to work in many different ways. However, you have to be a good ASP developer to make changes to it. Here is some information on how they work by default and also info on an alternate scenario we have provided.
In the "check_user_inc.asp" that comes in the root of this system Access Levels works as follows.
Level 1 has Access to - Level 1 Level 2 has Access to - Level 1,2 Level 3 has Access to - Level 1,2,3 Level 4 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4 Level 5 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5 Level 6 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6 Level 7 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 Level 8 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN
The "check_user_inc.asp" included in the "extras" directory is an example of changing the access level checking code to work differently. In that "check_user_inc.asp" Access Levels works as follows.
Level 1 has Access to - Level 1 Level 2 has Access to - Level 2 Level 3 has Access to - Level 3 Level 4 has Access to - Level 4 Level 5 has Access to - Level 5 Level 6 has Access to - Level 6 Level 7 has Access to - Level 7 Level 8 has Access to - Level 8 ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN
If you get creative you can create some interesting access level checking scenarios.
Here is some additional info..
If the access levels are too restrictive you can ignore them all together and create your own totally custom solutions. Here is a quick rundown of some of the things you can do.
Ok... so if you want to be really specific about what each user can see and can't .. here's an example of what you can do
Don't use the access levels before the include file.. Don't worry about what you set a user to in the admin area since the access levels won't be used.
Do something like this..
Every time a user logs in session variables are set that you can access at any time.. thus allowing you to know who they are.
So you could do something like this...
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
<% If Session("USERNAME") = "bob1267" or Session("USERNAME") = "carl45" or Session("ADMIN") = "True" Then Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "Yes" Else Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "No" Response.Redirect(Request.ServerVariables("script_name")) End If %>
The following URL explains what Redirects are. http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/redirects.asp
That would in effect create totally custom access levels.. but you would have to do it manually for each user.
You can also do things like this after a person logs in
Show custom html to any specific user based on either their username or access level ... like so
say there was a menu and a certain link should only show up to username "paully67"
you could do something like this
<HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE></TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY>
<br> <a href="main.asp">Home Page</a> <% If Session("USERNAME") = "paully67" Then %> <br> <a href="paullys_page.asp">Pauls Stats Page</a> <% End If %> <br> <a href="links.asp">Links Page</a>
</BODY> </HTML>
Or you can show custom HTML or links based on Access Levels or any other info.
You can do just about anything with if-then statements and using the built in vbscript functions..
Hopefully this info will help to give you some ideas...
Bottom line is you have to do some work within your site to make the Access Level system really come alive. cwilliams38114.6506712963, its that server, it's way underpowered when it comes to running dynamic code and databases.. and that other app is probably stealing all the leftover odbc resources..... did you try doing the import on another machine running ASP? Thats the way to go.. I am afraid I won't be much help at the moment.. I am battling with a crashed system and a lot of lost data, Hi Chris
After turing off the delayed stats feature the internal errors have stopped and it still serves banners, although I havent checked the logs yet. I will and post any errors.
I left my test page up last night at say 11pm serving 4 banners of different sizes rotating every 15 seconds, now at 9am the page is just displaying 1. If I refresh the page they all reappear.
Regards Colin , You need to make sure you created the SQL database using the SQL scripts we provide and that no errors occur whatsoever. That is extremely important. You must use our SQL creation scripts.
Then, when you create the user you need to go back to that user and make sure you check the admin account and save that user again. (many times when setting up a system for someone I find myself forgetting that step and then I have to go back in and check the admin box for the user I created.)
And of course create the user from the ASPProtect admin area web interface. Do not add the user to the database manually because you will have no way to enter the password correct as it is encrypted. And do not change the encryption key after making the user/.
It would also be wise to check the SQL server database at every step to make sure the user info gets created and that all the field info looks correct for the most part.
You also want to be sure to specify SQL as the database type side the connection string info as the SQL directions go over
a remote sql server should not an issue.
thats really all I can think of right now , I am a little confused here. I am in the process of understand how this all works, mainly the email portions as I am running this through a home server (Windows XP). I have tried test emails, but they are not going threw. I ran the server_info.asp and it is telling me that I do have CDONTS installed, version 2.8. Then I tried running, the test_mailer_component.asp. This page is telling me it is not installed. This process lead me to start looking at my components for my IIS. Everything appears to be there.
Any ideas, where I should go next. It appears the CDONTS code is in every page that it needs to be in, and it appears that I have it installed, but there is a disconnect between the two..
, Not to be pushy, but how's the new version progressing?
I'm hoping these features will be in it:
- possibly add the ability to move pictures around in an album. and maybe between albums, I must also remember to move the ratings and desc as well for that image.
- possibly add a feature to store 3 versions of images uploaded
thumbnail, medium res, and high res/original
-
add option to store the images orginal name in the images description area during upload may be helpful to people that name their images in a somewhat descriptive way
-
add support for the ibulc bulk upload client that I recently discovered
If you could use a beta tester, I'm still just setting up my site and would be willing to run a beta.
Thanks
Al , recently i've been getting a lot of unspecified errors. i've been running aspbanner for about a year and a half now. i don't know what would have caused all these problems. also, for some reason it won't maintain my log-in, ever time i got from page to page or try to submit a form it asks me log-in again.
Jason S. cwilliams38389.8791550926, ok, Thanks and glad that fixed it.
You can review this software at http://www.aspin.com/func/review?id=4952510
That being said, ASPIN has a lot of problems with anonymous reviews so if you can please sign up with them and post an Authentic review as they carry a lot more weight. Authentic reviews involve responding to their validation email so when doing so use a real email address that you regularly check.
And sorry I made you use the forums, but as you can see this is exactly the sort of thread that will help someone else later on.. and that is why I require people to use the forums now instead of just email support. That way the conversations are out in the open where they can help everyone instead of buried in my outlook where no one will ever see them. And of course if information is sensitive you can always do a Private Message as you did earlier.
It is all about creating a knowlegebase of valuable information. , well, ultimately it comes down to this and this is stated in the footer of every page in the cjwsoft family of websites.
"In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live professionaly setup server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine."
and if you have some sort of weird timeout going on on your local machine and cant even give me a detailed error message there is just no way I can possibly troubleshoot it... I told you what to check and thats really all I can do... all my applications run on XP. As a matter of fact I do all my development on XP boxes.
It could be any numbers of things... odbc drivers, versions of vbscript... other software on the pc interfering such as antivirus script blockers like norton... all sorts of issues can pop up on personal machines running xp
If you put this up on a live professionally setup web server I can help you. On your local machine there is only so much I can suggest. , Still not ready... I have no time to finsih it at the moment..
release date is unknown...
, if you use our existing User_ID they are going to get new ID's. There is nothing you can do about that.
You could very easily though stick your exisisting User_ID's in one of the custum fields so you dont lose that info for each member., if that account isnt there thats normal because if it doesn't have any permissions for that folder so it wouldnt be listed
you simply dig into the menus a liitle deaper and find it then add it. cwilliams38417.6984606481, Thanks for the info. We'll do as you suggest.
NPA , maybe this is the issue...
do you realize that the descriptive name you give a group is not always going to be the same ID in the database ? The two are not related.
Perhaps what you named Group 1 is really group ID 3
You can tell for sure by generating protection code for group 1 and see what ID it tells you to use..
You also need to remember that you are testing this with different users and it is really easy to get confused so you need specifically log off using the log off page to ensure session info from the previous login doesn't show up and cause confusion when you log in with a different user... etc etc
in addition to logging off that way you may also want clear the session and application info via the code at the bottom of my article http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/displaying-session-and-a pplication-variables.asp
and do that in between any user you log in as ,
something weird is going on
Yeah that's my impression too. I've done a lot of searching before posting this problem, but haven't solved it. Maybe it has to do with the sql-server/hotel?
Though I have compared carefully what goes on (and it should all be good) it could still be the problem? I have now made it work on a local msde sql server too.. , I tried the iFrame method that you have shown, and it works great!!!!, you can not limit image size using the pure code upload method. Its not possible using a pure asp method that I know of.
You would have to be using one the supported commercial upload components and edit the upload code accordinly to limit upload sizes (you would do this by looking through their documentation and samples) I didnt include any support for upload file size limitations with the supported 3rd party upload components because in my testing I found it problematic with all but aspupload from persits software. (I have example coe for that component I can provide that limits the upload size and seems to do it well) I am sure it could work with safileup and dundas as well but I gave up trying.
As for image resizing.. Image resizing requires the use of one of the supported 3rd party image resizing components. You didnt mention if you are using one or not. If you dont have one available image resizing is just not possible as asp can not do that on its own. , I do not what see what this has to do with anything I sell ?
Those errors are all related to pages that have nothing to do with my ASP applications and code., A nice addition for the listing script would be if the script would allow a "featured ad" or ads that would appear on the default page. , Your users with Internet Explorer may have received the "Page Expired" error. For ASPProtect users, it happens when the user is not logged on and tries to invoke the target page. check_user_inc.asp puts up the login form, and IE sees it as part of the target page. Any later attempt to Back up and reload from cache gives the errror.
My solution was, after successful login, instead of falling through the bottom of check_user_inc.asp and running the target page, I issue a re-direct to reload the target page. I also added META tags on the dynamic login form to say no-cache and expire now, so the re-direct really does reload the target page. This time, of course, check_user_inc.asp does not need to put up the login form, and the new target page in cache contains no form at all. So, IE will not give a Page Expired error when Backing up to it later.
Netscape, and I gather other browsers, do not behave the same way, so I limited the solution to IE. Also, the solution only works if the target page has no form of its own.
I'm uploading my customized version of check_user_inc.asp that contains this solution. (In it, I also used the Javascript focus method to place the "cursor" in the Username field when the login form loads.)
