I wonder why the banners in ASPBanner 8.1 are moving from one place to another when opening my site www.helserevyen.no in a Mac Safari browser and click on refresh?

How to bring up the Code Generators
Simply go to the zones screen.
Select a Zone from the list.
Check the "Show Banner Code" option.
Click on "Display Banners in Selected Zone"
, Hey, I thought I'd share this tip with the ASPProtect community...
If you'd like to remove, modify, or add fields to the "Users" view in
the password_admin default.asp page, it's really easy to do. Well, at
least it was for me. I'm using an MS Access database, by the way.
For me, I don't need "Company" info, but I do need last access and # of
times accessed displayed. Therefore, I had to change the default page
in three areas:
In /password_admin/default.asp, go to about line 185 or so, where you see stuff like:

OK, those are the column headings. Each one corresponds to a column
from your USERS table in your database. There are two more areas to
consider, both of which appear immediately after this section.
The next section has statements that look like this:

See the "First_Name" items? The first is for an ascending sort, the
second for a descending. This particular line corresponds to the code
snippet immediately above it. But all this does is handle the sorting.
For the actual data, look lower for this stuff:

It's a good ways down, so don't be impatient if you don't see it in 10
lines from the end of the last mentioned section. This stuff handles
the display of the data from the database (where else ya gonna get
data, anyway?)...
Now, to remove a field, you need to find the three sets that go with
that data. The ascending/descending sort is potentially the trickiest,
because it's the longest set of data and can take a number of lines.
Just clear it from the start td to the end /td and you'll be fine.
To *add* a field, copy and paste the code from an existing field and
modify it. In the first one, the column title, you can type whatever
you want to describe your info. Nobody but you and your admins will see
it. For the next two sections, though, you need to get the correct
column heading from the USERS table and use that to correct the lines
in the copied code you pasted in.
For example, when I added a column to show the number of times a user
logged in, I copied the above snippets and pasted them in where I felt
the column I needed should be. Then, in the first one, I changed "First
Name" to "Logins". In the ascending/descending snippet, I changed
First_Name to Counter. Same for the last snippet.
The result? A new column, showing the number of logins my users were successful with.
Of course, before you experiment, back up your existing default.asp file, JUST IN CASE.

, I have no idea.. perhaps PM me info on how to log into your site and reproduce the issue., I have just purchased ASP v7 and loaded. Followed instructions. Obtained codes not prob. Get to single field login screen, enter password and following page appears:
Method Not Allowed
The requested method POST is not allowed for the URL /temp/aspprotect/password_admin/get_me_in.asp.
Added folder aspprotect under (temp web) folder - temp, but also tried under root folder of web site.
Still no luck.

I have a user/client who can't access stats. Even when I give them a
new username, I get the message that their username has expired.
In the notes of the account it says "Level 1 access" and I can't
figure out what that is and where it is edited or set or even what it
means. Seems like I must have hit something somewhere that goofed
up this account. I could just delete the account/user and set it
back up but I'm worried I'd just make this same mistake later and
figured I'd get the info on it. Any ideas?

Is the User_ID field still an autonumber field in the Access database ?
I do not see how this could happen unless somehow the autonumber field setting for User_ID was changed in the database?

, Access Database Password
By default all of the Access Databases we give out have a default password of "temp"
The Default username that and Access database uses is "Admin" but you should not be concerned with that except in your connection strings.
The default password for the Access Database can only be changed using Microsoft Access to do so. If you have security concerns it would make sense to change the password. The help system built into Microsoft Access best explains how to do that.

it would be nice if there was an option for login abuse, where a login account would be flagged if it logged in from x number of different IPs over a period of time. I know many have dynamic IPs, but there's got to be a balance between legitimate logins and logins that are 'shared' for the sake of saving money (I sell subscriptions), in the end costing me.
Maybe searching the first two number groups in the IP (example, 209.168.*.*), and if finding more than an admin specified number of logins per week from IPs with different first two groups, the record would be flagged or locked...

I did a search for ASP examples or ASP components that can help with the process and just couldn't find anything about it., I have activated both activity and log files. The directories exist on my server and don't give any errors.
When I check the activity tab, some times there are a number of items in it. Other times, there is only my login info. From what I can see, it is supposed to show the last 50 items of activity at all times. Am I missing something?
Also, when I click on the log file tab, there is no file or information to see. Is there something I need to do beyond activating it in the settings area and making sure the directory has write permissions?

, Trying to make sense of this. I am still confused. In the file config_inc.asp. I found the setting for "uploaddirectory". That entry looks like this [UploadDirectory = CmdGetConfiguration("UploadDirectory")]. I assume there is a config file where the value of upload directory is located.
The settings in the config_inc.asp file have not been changed. they are set to the way it was delivered. Is there a document that gives instructions as to what and where the config settings are to be changes?

Passwords can obviously only contain up to and including 8 characters... By some coincidence I only used short passwords with MS Access.

The code in the ASP application handles all encryption and un-encrpytion of passwords in the database. I uses the vbscript RC4 function and the password encryption key specific to your installation to do this.
The whole idea is that if someone gets your database and opens it up that they will not get the passwords (utilitiies to crack access databases are common and work well so they can easily get by the main password)
That being said when you open the database manually your not supposed to see clear text passwords. Your also not supposed to have an easy way to make them clear text. It's a security thing.
Though I am not officially supporting it I will tell you what I think would be the easisest way to make an export file with clear text passwords in it.
Use the export fire creator in the admin area of aspprotect.
Mosdify "export.asp"
change
Password = CmdDataExport("Password")
to
Password = RC4(CmdDataExport("Password"), PasswordEncryptionKey)
Then make an export file and see if that worked.
you can then import the export file into and access database or do whatever you like with it.

just change 250 to something higher.. I wouldn't go much over 500 though as it may cause problems.. I am really not sure.. Changing it higher is done at your own risk.
cwilliams38300.5727314815, you can not limit image size using the pure code upload method. Its not possible using a pure asp method that I know of.
You would have to be using one the supported commercial upload components and edit the upload code accordinly to limit upload sizes (you would do this by looking through their documentation and samples) I didnt include any support for upload file size limitations with the supported 3rd party upload components because in my testing I found it problematic with all but aspupload from persits software. (I have example coe for that component I can provide that limits the upload size and seems to do it well) I am sure it could work with safileup and dundas as well but I gave up trying.
As for image resizing..
Image resizing requires the use of one of the supported 3rd party image resizing components. You didnt mention if you are using one or not. If you dont have one available image resizing is just not possible as asp can not do that on its own.

Sounds like an issue with the way that browser handles and puts together html/flash in relation to the layout of your site which is fairly complex
less likely - could also be related to computer processor/resources as that is a decent sized flash file and could bog down certain machines on the client level.. internet connection as well ?
those are my guesses.. I dont see anything wrong from windows xp web browsing from a fast machine and on broadband.. looks pretty nice actually , We want to insert a hyperlink i the mesage area when we e-mail users from the Password Admin area. Is ther an easy way to insert the hyperlink so when the user gets the e-mail, they can just click on it and go the the page we want them to?

It is something I deal with every day with my own software. If you want to joke about it please do it someplace else. If you are downloading things via p2p do not talk about here. I don't want to know about it period., MODS are NOT SUPPORTED.. questions about them will not be answered in the support forums. If you want to use a MOD you are considered an advanced user and will need to sort out any issues that may or may not come up.
MODS are used at your own risk and may or may not require certain basic coding skills. , I have been having some display issues with the .NET version of ASPBanner. I set the size of the image, and I set the size of the banner and there is still white space above and below the image. I am not using a text link below the banner, so I have it set to blank.

Two of the three banners in the rotation on the main page have non-white backgrounds so it's easy to see the issue I'm talking about.

You want to change the sortby hyperlink on that page so that it will in turn change the dynamic sql statement to sort the way you want
Find

change it to

or maybe
?SORTBY=Date_Created+DESC
One of them is the default anyway, but I cant remember which is which off hand so just try them both till you get the desired result
near the top you can also change the default sortby when thet page is loaded

there you would use a space though.. not a "+" sign when adding the ASC or DESC
The + sign is only used in the hyperlinks because it means a space for browsers that can't deal with spaces in links

eeye38433.0629976852, It is common when testing a site that this happens because of the nature of session variables.
Admins have access to EVERYTHING so it is very important when testing different user accounts that you specifically log out... and then close every single browser window before logging in as a different user. This is to ensure session info from the previous user does not overlap in any areas.
(The session variable for admin access being the main one)
Under normal circumstances a user would not log in with many different accounts on the same computer this this would only be a problem for a developer who is testing.
So make sure you go to the to log-off page and log off.. then close all browser windows.. then test another user.
If all this is not the case then something else is going on and I will need more information. I pretty much know the level checking code for ASPProtect Version 6 is correct as there has been no reason to change any of it in over a year. I would have heard reports of problems with it. , ya, that firewall could mess that up.

, My site is composed of mostly asp based pages with some javascripting thrown in, but a fair amount is strictly html and javascripting. Currently I am using the javascript banner method throughout the site.
You have mentioned in the past that several other methods might be a better option for asp pages.
Examples would be: XML Parser Method or asphttp method.
I was wondering if it is possible to use the javascript method on my non-asp pages and maybe the asphttp method on the asp pages and all in the same Zone?
Or, is it possible to use the asphttp method on all pages, whether they are asp or not?
I'm just trying to figure out what is the most efficient way to use the banner system.
Or maybe should I just keep it all javascript method?
Any helpful feedback would be appreciated!

, You should not have single quotes around the "-1" because Album_Active is not a string field in the database. It's true/false or bit field in the database depending on the database you are using (MSSQL or ACCESS)
I'd do it a little more like this I think.

I took out the parentheses as well since I dont believe they are needed in a simple case like this
but is hard to say unless your the one testing it... my version might have a mistake as I am a little rusty with my SQL at the moment

depending on the situation and the odbc drivers the 1 and -1 should work either way but sometimes it's picky and you have to do it one way or the other
