Why all the pages at the directory .../password_admin/ are very slow to open online? vaghelis38300.5280208333, Hi
I downloaded the .chm format installation documentation but when I open it I get the index but can't see any of the pages so am a bit stuck. ,
I checked with our web hosting company and CDOSYS is installed and properly registered on the Windows 2003 Server our site resides on.
How do I go about changing the ASPProtect code to use CDOSYS?
Please advise.
, Chris:
Quick question. I'm currently using navigation style 1 which
keeps everything within the 1 window. I'd like to take the text
descriptions and place them under the main photo when it is
displayed. Before i modify anything, I'd like to check if I'm in
the right neighborhood first. It looks like I need to:
- modify the behaviour of the 'onmouseover' function in the file 'view_album_style_1.asp'
- add in a few lines of code to take
FixStr(UserArray1(PicIndex - 1),"PrepareForJavaScript"), put it into a
text string and do a response.write under (or over) the photo in
question.
Question Part 2 -- if i wanted to use the first line of the description as a title could I:
- add in an input to the photo upload
- concatenate the 2 strings together (title and description)
- display the title under the thumbs
- bold the display of the title over the large version of the image.
Pretty complicated questions, but I'm coming along nicely (IMHO). Have a look at
http://www.iphotosite.com/galleryapp/default.asp
I really like the progress that I've been able to make with this app without really spending a huge amount of time.
Kurt
, well, you should probably be backing up the SQL database on a regular basis. That is between you and hosting company. If they let you connect via SQL Enterprise Manager you can do backups on your own.
As far as the aspprotect files and folders go back them up somewhere, and then only worry about backing them up again if you change some of the files.
That's really all there is to it. None of the ASPProtect files change on their own except the generated log files that you may or may not care about backing up.
I mean the important thing is the Database, and then of course any your own .asp pages that you protected as well as any custimizations you made to the users area or your site... , After taking another look at this and trying your suggestions without success, it appears that in Windows 2003 server it is nearly impossible to remove the READ ONLY attribute from the _database folder. I'm wonder if this could the cause?
Thanks , btw: who is this hosting company anyway ?
and did they give you access to a control panel that lets you manage your site ? sometimes that is where you manage those permissions if their interface supports it
lastly, are frontpage extensions installed in your web so it can be connected to via frontpage ?
, I down loaded your latest ASPProtect.NET_v1.4 and now when i try to get in the admin area it won't let me in. The admin box is selected in the database under the admin user and i can update my user information (password and Address, not username). Is there something that was changed on this version or is it more likely user error on my part? What do you think i should try first?, Making progress. I have made the appropriate settings and now I have the option to upload. When I upload, I get the following message:
"Your upload did not succeed, most likely because your browser does not support Upload via this mechanism.
Your browser must support a standard called RFC 1867. Please check with your browser vendor for support of this standard"
I am using IE6 XP SP2. I also am using DUNDAS UPLOAD, ASPIMAGE.
I think I set permissions correctly bot not positive. I have given all auth to everyone for the database etc. , ya, thats basically what I was gonna do..
BTW.. if that other app is going crazy with an access database it could be the cause of all the slowdown with ASPProtect... what happens there is it is using so much database driver time that it robs other things that also access a database... so basically ASPProtect isn't asking its database for much but your other application and database are cripping that part of the system and causing it to run like crapola
If your other app is using a system dsn try changing it to use a dsn-less connection... it might actually help , You can't do that. ASPProtect 7 does not work with ASP.NET.
It is a classic ASP application. As the web site states it can only be used to protect ".asp" pages written using vbscript.
ASP and ASP.net are completely different animals.
Thats why we have a .NET version. http://www.aspprotect.com/more_info_net.asp

cwilliams38431.8787152778, Trying to make sense of this. I am still confused. In the file config_inc.asp. I found the setting for "uploaddirectory". That entry looks like this [UploadDirectory = CmdGetConfiguration("UploadDirectory")]. I assume there is a config file where the value of upload directory is located.
The settings in the config_inc.asp file have not been changed. they are set to the way it was delivered. Is there a document that gives instructions as to what and where the config settings are to be changes? , while technically that shouldnt be showing that with two slashes that is actually valid and will not effect whether that feature works or not.
so if you are getting an error that is not the reason.. as far as windows is concerned // is the same as slash in that scenario?
what is your error? I need details. Like some code and an error at a line number ?
99% of the time it is permissions and sometimes it is related to the filesystem object being disabled on the server or script blocking software such as norton antivirus , I think I've got it to work somewhat. I modified the 2checkout1 & 2 asp file to use and pass Product_id. It now identifies the product correctly. I'm good fo now. Thanks for the info though.
-Jason , UPDATE... on very very busy sites these methods have been reported to fail once in a while.. meaning .NET gets overloaded and instead of a banner its shows some error code.
its not the banner system .. its the .net engine and the calling method cwilliams38326.8618865741, Chris,
Another question on V7. I set up all the paths as required for the extras like user pics and exports on my site. They were working fine. I created an export, then as you recommend, deleted the file on the site to ensure it doesn't get in the wrong hands. I did this a few times to test it after a number of people logged in.
About 2 days later, I went to do it again and the system came back with an error saying the directory didn't exist. I know it did because I created it and it worked fine. I then created the directory again thinking I was losing it.
Then today, I went to do another export and the directory is gone again! Can you help me understand why this might be happening? I am the only one with FTP access to the site so there is no way that it could be someone else doing it. The error I get is:
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a004c'
Path not found
/password_admin/export.asp, line 78
Thanks, Dave , Christopher
Many Thanks
Seems like its working just got to test it bit to see, though it wasnt going to work as I had one too many End If's after the last part of the code you done for me. But even I eventually sussed it, nothing to do with your bit just another mistake on my part
Great to get support like this especially on a Saturday
regards
John , Hello,
for an admin.. you view albums for a user.. make a new album... then click manage pictures
for a regular user you log in.. go to user user area.. create an album..then click on manage your albums , Ahhh, I see it, thanks that was the ticket.

, And I'm the one who finds those rarities! I'm not surprised.
Oh well...this should be interesting trying to get an 80 year old man to change his password.
Thanks for your quick responses Chris. This is still an awesome membership system!
Mick , also.. the log out page shouldnt really need this but you can try adding this to it where all the other ones are set to nothing..
<% Session("Groups") = "" %> cwilliams38341.7215046296, Well, you cant have a login box on the home page when using ASPProtect.NET.. there is no way to make that work. I tried all day to come up with something and it is not going to happen. I suggest you make a login button and link it directly to the protected page you want them to start on. The redirect or link them whereever from there. Either that or write your own forms based authentication solution that works exactly the way you want it to or edit the code accordingly since you have the source. It is not a feature we advertise for the product regardless. It works the way it works. , at this point I would say install a fresh untouched copy in the web in a different directory and lets see if it acts weird from scratch.. the we can go from there.. I dont know what is going on , How to bring up the Code Generators
Simply go to the zones screen. Select a Zone from the list. Check the "Show Banner Code" option.
Click on "Display Banners in Selected Zone" , You can also try setting asphttp's user agent property to some browser version like in this example. It might stop that info from showing up when it fetches a page from the server.
<% Dim BanObj1Http Set BanObj1Http = Server.CreateObject("AspHTTP.Conn") BanObj1Http.UserAgent = "Mozilla Compatible (MS IE 3.01 WinNT)" BanObj1Http.Url = " http://banserver.powerasp.com/aspbanner/aspbanner_inc.asp?Ba nnerZone=1" Response.Write BanObj1Http.GetURL set BanObj1Http = nothing %>
Also... I dont know if these values below will work but I got them from looking at my nt logs.
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)
And here is more info on the asphttp component and it's settings. http://www.serverobjects.com/comp/asphttp3.htm cwilliams38248.6481365741, Also, I notice you are using iframes to load the banners. That is probably your issue more than anything. That browser probably does not handle them well.
Possibly try other methods of displaying the banners and see what happens. The XML parser is usually one the best methods to try as it will output just your banner code straight into your html. , this error really does not mean anything specific
Your browser must support a standard called RFC 1867. Please check with your browser vendor for support of this standard"
If you get an error its real weird that the file is being uploaded. Generally if you get an error during upload it is because of one of these 3 things
Invalid physical path specified
Unsupported upload method chosen
Permissions
See my article on XP and permissions http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_xp_pro_and_permi ssions.asp
many people dont do their permissions right on XP Pro and that article covers everything , My server is Server2003. I could not find the folder settings you mentioned. I did find a iuser which I added as specified. I retried to perform an upload. Still same message. But it does move the JPG to the picture folder. So, part of it is working. , (customer replied aug-sep 2005)
OK, you have old code then... I will send you some updated files that you can try.. let me know here if it solves the problem. , Can ASPClassifieds display the ads by city?
I have a web directory that lists websites and companies by city. Is it possible to have specific ads shown to the user depending on what city they click on? For example, only ads in New York would be shown to users that have already clicked on that city in my directory.
thanks, , The way the application works is one separate installation and database is required for each (IIS Application).... not only is it a licensing thing but it is also the nature of (forms based authentication) because every application in IIS has it's own set of application and session variables and they can not be shared with other various IIS applications.
That being said if you plan to run a separate install for each web/IIS application buying new licenses is fine
If you want to run one installation and database and share that with other web.IIS applications it is not technically possible.
Each web/IIS application requires a seperate install of ASPProtect.NET, Hi,
Sorry, but the way the system works you can not call an individual banner like that. It just not something the system was meant to do.
If you wanted a specific banner to show up at all times you would have to make an individual banner and a zone just for that.
After looking at your site since you have so many banners there I dont know if that is the greatest option for you. It would also put a lot of stress of the Version 7 software because it is not really meant to call so many banners zones at one time on one page.
If you could live with tracking clicks on the home page but not displays I would suggest making banners for the home page in one zone. Then hard coding the banner images into your homepage like you already do but linking to the tracking part of aspbanner instead of where they would usually link to. That way you could at least track clicks and there owuld be no performance issues.
for example.. one of the images might link to http://www.poconocommuter.com/aspbanner/banner_redirect.asp? Banner_ID=4
which would track clicks for you.. and then send then wherever they are supposed to go
,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I will consider editing the code. , I would like to delete the SQL tables and set them up from scratch using enterprise manager and sql query manager and see what happens
If that is ok with you let me know.
Something is wrong like I said... almost seems like the database is caching old password info from the field.,
Flash files cannot track clicks unless you edit the original flash file to link to the aspbanner system redirect URL.. feeding it the correct ID of the banner.
When that link is clicked on it will then track the click and redirect the user to the “link url” specified for that banner.
The system actually generates the necessary ASPBanner URL for you. That link is shown on the banner edit screen.(you must save the banner at least once and come back to that screen to see the link though)
Really the best way to show it is with an example as seen below.

Basically the flash banner file "powerasp.swf" highlighted in green needs to be edited to link to the banner redirect url which is highlighted in red.... the banner redirect url will then track the click and ultimately send the user to the Link_URL highligthed in blue.
All banners systems work this way when it comes to flash files. It’s the nature of flash and the web browser,
The flash source code must be edited to link to the redirect url in the ASPBanner system. There is no possible way any banner system can track a flash click unless the flash file links to the banner system 1st.... because that click is handled by Flash and the web browser.
In some cases if you do have the original source file for the flash banner then you are out of luck as far as tracking clicks goes.
On a side note... if you create flash banners the way this article says you can actually feed a .swf flash file a link for it to click to. Instead of it being hardcoded.
http://www.macromedia.com/resources/richmedia/tracking/desig ners_guide/index.html
This is really the way everyone should design their flash banners from now on because the url it links to can be easily changed at any time without editing the flash file source code. cwilliams38085.095150463, Let me put it this way.
My home page (default.asp) is an unprotected page.
When a user that has signed in on another (protected pages) and has the remember me checkbox checked closes the browser cookies should be set for the next time they return.
When the user opens their browser and returns to my home page (default.asp), I'd like to put a message saying: Welcome back <%Session ("Username")%>
How is this done?
, Something very strange is happening. Some users can't see the classified ads in their browser. This is specific to the user's computer, and they can check other computers and see it fine.
In each case, the user is using windows explorer 6.0 browser with windows xp.
they can't see the ads listed on the ads page, but they can see the categories.
also, they can't see the place ad link on some pages.
Do you think that their browser is blocking the javascript for the mouseover message?
thanks. , Unfortunatley, I dont have an easy answer for you. It is certainly doable but adjusting the code so people assigned to certain groups get specific expiration dates means a lot of code work and time. It would probably even take me a long time to figure out.
The fact that users can belong to more than one group also greatly complicats the whole idea.
You can certainly assign an expiration level when someone signs up. That is easy and explained in the forums. , Not sure what you mean about the path to the IIS files being
wierd...what else should it be? The wf directory is the root of
the aspprotect stuff for this project.
I assume the permissions need to be read, write at least. I was
looking at the permissions dialog from a file explorer and I see a web
sharing tab and a security tab. I look at the security tab but I
am not really sure which type of user I am looking for to add and give
permissions to so that I can get it right. Maybe that is not the
right place to set the permissions....
Sorry to be "windows challenged" but I am not super familliar with all
the different places to set various permissions for OS vs. IIS. I
looked in the "Internet Services Manager" and browsed to the logfiles
directory and looked at its permissions...is that the place to set
things up? I see a "directory" and "Directory security"
tabs...which is the important one? I made sure "write" was
checked and went to the directory security tab and enabled anonomous
access....still no logs are showing up. Restarted server a bunch of
times to make sure it took the permission settings. I logged in
and out correctly and incorrectly to see if a log would be generated
but no luck.
The physical path to the logfiles directory is set correctly in the setup tab in aspprotect... sorry to still be baffled.
How do I know if the filesystem object is disabled on the server?? I can copy and paste things in there...
Thanks!!
