It works. Thanks Chris.
, Christopher
Many Thanks
Seems like its working just got to test it bit to see, though it wasnt going to work as I had one too many End If's after the last part of the code you done for me. But even I eventually sussed it, nothing to do with your bit just another mistake on my part
Great to get support like this especially on a Saturday
regards
John ,
Have tried doing that but same error...
, Not without changing a lot of code. If you didn't want encryption you really should have went with version 6. Encryption is a big new feature of Version 7 and it is inter-mixed with it the code in a lot of places.
As for doing the export and import you have to create a valid export file and then read through this very thread which explains how to import an export file with clear text passwords.
This is from the admin area regarding the text file format The import/export file must be tab delimited with no text qualifiers. The 1st row containing field names and the following each being a new user. To create your own import file it must be in this exact format. To find out what field names and their order are simply create an export file using ASPProtect and take a look at it.
Generating an import file from your own database requires good knowlege and understanding of Access's Importing and Exporting functions. It is not something I cover as the process is different for everyone and not really very hard. , Having a quality professionally set up ASP.NET server that is going to support your needs is CRITICAL whether it is yours or someone elses. Them saying they will not set permissions is useless. Quite honestly Network Solutions is a joke when it comes to ASP.NET hosting. They are all about CHEAP MASS HOSTING and that is not where you go when you plan on running complex ASP.NET applications. What good is ASP.NET hosting if you can not permissions set on folders you need it for? A lot of people run ASPProtect.NET and their hosts set permissions for them without issue. We made one folder that they could click on and set all permissions at once easily. If they truly knew anything they would understand that and set permissions for you in a heartbeart. You have to have a correctly set up server or a hosting company that is serious about your ASP hosting needs.
I mean you come to us with this mess of a situation, we tell you its a bad setup. We tell you to rebuild the server correctly or make a new one. Now instead of doing that you come to us with another mess of a situation. Now you act all frustrated because you have spent so much time on this. How the heck do you think we learned everything we know ? Do you think we have never spent weeks on a problem or stayed up for 4 nights in a row without sleep. That is how you learn and it is called experience. I have no sympathy for someone that complains about how long something took because I am right there with the best of them and I have paid my dues.
Have you by chance read all of this thread below because despite what you keep telling me you are totally falling into this category. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo234-1.htm Granted you may not be "Joe Coder" but you are definetly "that guy" who doesn't really know what is going on with ASP.NET. "that guy" who sets up his own server and knows enough to be dangerous. You definetly have enough sense/basic skills to dig around and read articles and try things but when you are on the wrong track that only helps out so much.
Also: I really was pretty tired when I got home last night, but now that I really think about what you did with that webserver/domain controller is about the worst moves possible when it comes to IIS hosting setups.. That is just SO BAD !! Now, don't think that I haven't done some REAL stupid things in the past. John too, like the time 5 or so years back when thought he could make a Windows XP Pro webserver for serious non development use . Anyway, that is how you learn. I suggest you get your server running correctly (not a domain controller) or you get a real host like www.alentus.com for your asp hosting needs. I mean you can get an account for like 10.00 a month and end all these headaches right now. I even know one of the head techs there as well as the general manager. Their ASP and ASP.NET support is 2nd to none.
You may not like what I have to say, (hell, I can pretty much guarantee you won't) but I tell it like it is and in the long run you will be better off for it.. We spent a ton of time developing the .NET version of this product and we sell it way less than it is worth especially since we provide source code. It is an awesome product, but if the server isn't truly and correctly supporting ASP.NET or they host will not set permissions than it is out of our hands. As far as I am concerned anything else is a waste of everyone's time. I am not going to play that game. Quite frankly, you need to get your stuff together. Nothing you have come up with so far has anything to do with a bug with ASPProtect.NET. Everything has been server related.
QUALITY HOSTING !!! PROFESSIONALY AND CORRECTLY SET UP SERVER !!!
THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE !!! , when I go to that url is seems fairly fast and somewhat normal.. even when I try to log in it pops right back up asking for login info again..
I would check to make sure you are not running anything that might be effecting your web browsing.. software firewalls.. ad blockers.. script blockers... norton internet security.. zone alarm... anything like that
they can all effect a lot of things regarding how web browsers act. , Chris,
Thanks for the reply. It all makes sense.
I have gone with your first option but here is the problem:
I have moved the password protected page from the detail page with the
querystring to the straight .asp page. This obviously fixes the
previous error.
Once someone has logged in they are then presented with a list of links
to the previously protected pricelist detail pages (example -
"somepage.asp?ID=3""). They are then able to access the pricelists.
The problem is that if someone copies the pricelist URL they are then
able to pass it on to someone else and bypass the password protection.
If I also password protect the pricelist pages then someone will have to login twice.
Is there some code that i can add that will simply check that they have
logged in otherwise kick them back out to the protected .asp page.
All code in your documentation tends to open the login page regardless of whether you have previously logged in.
Thanks,
Stuart
, An email I just received from eastcoastguy.. to keep this thread up to date
Your quick reply was greatly appreciated... I removed the password and was able to use a DSN...I will look into a DSN-less connection later..once i get this working !

cwilliams38146.6165509259, nope ,sql server has nothing to do with this
I am talking about the folder pictures are stored in.. it needs modify permissions set for the internet guest account like those articles talk about
, download the free version...
check out this tutorial... http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo169-1.htm
If your application can post to the page and provide all the form variables needed to log in it may work out for you..
You'll have to try it out... all the form variables needed are in that login form example.
Basically you'd be posting to a protected (.asp) page.. and providing the following for the most part.. how your app creates it post data is on your end...
<input type="hidden" name="Status" value="Checkem"> <input type="text" name="Username" value="Yourusername"> <input type="Password" name="Password" value="YourPassword">
As an alternate scenario...
Now, by default the "check_user_inc.asp" file is looking for posted form data... for security reasons it is not looking for querystring info..
If you change this bit of code in that file
from
Username = Replace(Request.Form("Username"),"'","''") Password = Request.Form("Password")
to
Username = Replace(Request("Username"),"'","''") Password = Request("Password")
It will then grab either form or querystring data...
Meaning you wouldn't necessary have to create a true post to the page with form data. You could just access the page via a querysting like so
http://www.mysite.com/somepage.asp?Status=Checkem&Userna me=Yourusername&Password=Yourpassword
Of course that introduces security risks as the username and password would be passed in plain text over the net
Another option is... You can also make a copy of the "check_user_inc.asp" page called whatever with those modifications just to use in pages you need your little application to post to... thus reducing the security concerns a a bit as the rest of yoru site could still have its pages protected under the normal scenario.
I hope this answers your question... I havent really ever tried any of this but that is how I think it would work... , (User Photo Upload Mod) for ASPProtect Version 7.x
This will allow an individual user to upload a user picture instead of just the admin.
Notes: This is a down and dirty mod. The user upload code was copied from the admin area and there are no safeguards. Meaning there is no limit on the file size a user uploads and there is no confirmation process in case something they upload is inappropriate. etc etc etc
If you want that you will have to work on that on your own.

Directions: Back up your existing ASPProtect installation.
copy these files into your "users" folder

, I am a little confused here. I am in the process of understand how this all works, mainly the email portions as I am running this through a home server (Windows XP). I have tried test emails, but they are not going threw. I ran the server_info.asp and it is telling me that I do have CDONTS installed, version 2.8. Then I tried running, the test_mailer_component.asp. This page is telling me it is not installed. This process lead me to start looking at my components for my IIS. Everything appears to be there.
Any ideas, where I should go next. It appears the CDONTS code is in every page that it needs to be in, and it appears that I have it installed, but there is a disconnect between the two..
, It is common when testing a site that this happens because of the nature of session variables.
Admins have access to EVERYTHING so it is very important when testing different user accounts that you specifically log out... and then close every single browser window before logging in as a different user. This is to ensure session info from the previous user does not overlap in any areas. (The session variable for admin access being the main one)
Under normal circumstances a user would not log in with many different accounts on the same computer this this would only be a problem for a developer who is testing.
So make sure you go to the to log-off page and log off.. then close all browser windows.. then test another user.
If all this is not the case then something else is going on and I will need more information. I pretty much know the level checking code for ASPProtect Version 6 is correct as there has been no reason to change any of it in over a year. I would have heard reports of problems with it. , CJWSoft offers a mutually beneficial partnership program for resellers of our Active Server Pages Based Web applications.

ON THE OTHER HAND IF YOU ARE A GOOD SIZED COMPANY AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING WE WE"LL HAVE A WONDERFUL AND PROFITABLE RELATIONSHIP. cwilliams38426.5449537037, Hi,
I basically explained how I thought that might work here where I went over everything I could think of and suggested you download the free version and see if you could get it working http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo488-1.htm
The part about using the alternate scenario involving querystring info from a url.
I have never done anything like that and that is why I told you what I knew and suggested you try it with the free version... , User Registration
The "users" folder allows users to sign themselves up and edit there accounts as well as retrieve lost passwords..
In the settings tab of the ASPProtect admin area there are options for which fields are used and which are mandatory when a user signs up. The only validation the system performs by default is checking for mandatory status. If you want to add more validation so reduce the chances of input errors that is up to you.
You can add additional server side validation by doing server side checks on the save pages... you can also make the field sizes larger in the database if you think you need to. You'll need to be good with ASP to do this.
Always backup your files before making changes to them so that you can revert back to a working copy if you mess something up. , The Double DIM needs to be removed for this code to work properly.
<% Dim BannerZone, BannerConnectionString, BannerDatabaseType, ConnBannerSystem Dim CmdCheckUser, CmdGetConfiguration, App_Name, Config_SQL, BodyTag, BanDataConn Dim CmdBannerTemp, CmdGetZones, ZoneString, ZoneArray, ZoneIndex, CmdUpdateWaiting Dim CmdUpdateExpired, CmdRetrieveImpLimitedAds, CmdRetrieveImpressions Dim CmdUpdateImpHit, CmdRetrieveAds, CycleBannerTotal, CycleList, NewCycleList Dim Dim LoopBanner, CycleLoop, CycleListArray, CycleListArrayIndex, BannerCycleData Dim Banner_Array, CurrentBanner, NewCycleListArray, Banner_Array2, LocationIndex Dim Stop_Processing, Keep_Processing, CmdUpdateStats %> , well, you should probably be backing up the SQL database on a regular basis. That is between you and hosting company. If they let you connect via SQL Enterprise Manager you can do backups on your own.
As far as the aspprotect files and folders go back them up somewhere, and then only worry about backing them up again if you change some of the files.
That's really all there is to it. None of the ASPProtect files change on their own except the generated log files that you may or may not care about backing up.
I mean the important thing is the Database, and then of course any your own .asp pages that you protected as well as any custimizations you made to the users area or your site... , Your SQL statement to the database is the key.
You want to change the sortby hyperlink on that page so that it will in turn change the dynamic sql statement to sort the way you want
Find
?SORTBY=Date_Created
change it to
?SORTBY=Date_Created+ASC
or maybe
?SORTBY=Date_Created+DESC
One of them is the default anyway, but I cant remember which is which off hand so just try them both till you get the desired result
near the top you can also change the default sortby when thet page is loaded
SORTBY = Request("SORTBY") If SORTBY = "" Then SORTBY = "Name" End If
there you would use a space though.. not a "+" sign when adding the ASC or DESC
The + sign is only used in the hyperlinks because it means a space for browsers that can't deal with spaces in links cwilliams38406.6011458333, Hi, I haven't heard anything from you.
Has this issue been resolved ?
Thanks , You not getting a blank page.. you getting an error. You just can't see it because it appears you edited the page background to black.
error '80040211'
/aspprotect/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp, line 174 , I am testing this now and there is something wrong.
PayPal is hitting the ipn.asp but the database is not being updated.
I will figure it out shortly though and post the anwer here. , I dont understand why I would get an error? -- I'm not sending the email from internal - so why would it try to validate?
I'm trying to send an email to an independent place - just like I would send an email to you
Am I using the wrong email setting - should I be doing something other than using "remote server" , ok, that probably means the physical path you have set for the logfile directory (in the admin settings area) is not correc t
the error pretty much means just what it says
,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I will consider editing the code. , Hi Chris,
I have a small problem, I have installed asp photo gallery pro on a hosted site, and after eventually getting them to modify permissions on directories it is essentially working, except that it won't delete pictures from an album. If I delete an album the pictures are left in the pictures directory, but the album is no longer displayed. If I then make a new album it is labelled incrementally... ie I had one album "album_ID_1", deleted it created a new album it is labelled "album_ID_2". I would have thought that the new album would be called "album_ID_1" ie taking the place of the deleted one. It seems to me that the delete album function isn't fully working either. My hosting comppany swears that the permissions on the pictures directory are set to full access for everybody. What have I done wrong?
Thank you
Nigel , Regarding (ASP Photo Gallery Pro)
If you are looking to import a very, very, large number of images, the upload feature might not be sufficient for you. I have done some work using a unix terminal to be able to upload as many images as I would like by simply placing the images in the directory and renaming the images. There are other ways to rename the images, but I am very familiar with Linux, so I chose to do it this way. If you are running Linux, MacOS, or another Linux-based OS, you can simply pull up a terminal and run the following command in the appropriate directory. If you run Windows, I'd suggest CygWin, which creates a Linuxenvironment (Linux shell). It can be found at www.cygwin.com In order to be recognized by the ASP software, the images must be in the format of pic_"Album Number"_"Picture Number".jpg . Therefore, the following code is run to accomplish the file name change (on one line without wordwrap):
ls -1 DSC* | sed 's/DSCN//g' sed 's/.JPG//g' | awk '{print "mv DSCN"$1".JPG pic_9_"$1".jpg"}' This command will change all files beginning in "DSCN" to "pic_9_*Picture Number*".
This does have a slight problem however. If there is a large number of pictures, 0's become a problem. For example, if there are 200 pictures, picture 1 will show up as pic_9_001.jpg. This can be fixed by the following command, which will eliminate unneccesary 0's (All on one line once more):
ls -1 --color='never' pic_9_0* |sed 's/_0/_/g' |sed 's/pic_9_//g' |sed 's/.jpg//g' |awk '{print "mv pic_9_0"$1".JPG pic_9_"$1".JPG"}'
This command eliminates 1 zero. It should be run as many times as needed to eliminate all zero's.
Please Note: These commands will only show the resultant set (The list of picture names). In order to execute them, they must be output to a shell script using the ">" character as follows:
ls -1 DSC* | sed 's/DSCN//g' sed 's/.JPG//g' | awk '{print "mv DSCN"$1".JPG pic_9_"$1".jpg"}' > temp.sh
Then, the shell script must be run using the following command:
sh temp.sh
This might take a few moments, depending on the amount of picture names that are being changed.
IMPORTANT: BACK UP all files before changing file names. Also, view the resultant sets to make sure it's what you want before outputting to a shell script.
If you have any questions, please feel free to post or e-mail me @ JPortnoy@checkernet.com cwilliams38210.5703009259, the following error message appears, but only when attempting to log off. all other parts of the program seem to be working.

,
Chris,
I'm setting up the subscription locally so I can't test it out until I
put the site live. I have a question in how the paypal
subscription works.
1. What is telling paypal to return the info to the ipn.asp page for
processing? Is that something I have to set up in my paypal
account?
2. I'd like to use Paypal's
auto return. I assume the return page would be ipn.asp?
Would I just need to add a redirect to the login page at the end
of the appropriate txn_type if/then statement?
Thanks,
Michelle
P.S. I did finish the integration of the webwizforum with
ASPProtect. Thanks for the great headstart on that! Will be
putting everything live in a couple weeks.
, If it stopped working it has nothing to do with the ASP code. YIf could have stopped for any number of reasons as hosts often change email server requirements and info. You need to go over the email settings. Of course make sure you and the person you are sending to have valid email addresses and try different methods/settings until you get emailing to work again.
Testing it by sending emails off from the users screen.. in each email type in what you are trying at that time so you know what worked if emails make it through. Also, be sure to check junk filters when testing to make sure the emails are not being put in any of those.
That's what I would do. CDOSYS is always your best bet for sending emails as it has so many options and all new server support it. , Hi Chris,
We installed our key onto the live server.
However, since our temp key has expired, we can't access our application on our development machine because the login won't work anywhere except on the live server.
Of course we can access the application on dev, if we remove the aspprotect tags, but if we need to log in to do something unique to the user, then we have a problem.
Can we get another temp key from you? And would there be a better long term solution to this debug/maintanence issue?
--JP , I'm getting errors when clicking the Update Config Button in the System Info page and when clicking the log files button.
I'm not sure if it's a permission thing or not. ASPNET and IUSR both have modify access to the _database folder and childs, yet I'm still getting the error:
Access to the path "D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectnet\_database\xsd\aspprotectne t_config.xml" is denied.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\_database\xsd\aspprotectnet_config.xml" is denied.
ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.
To grant ASP.NET write access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.
Any ideas?
Thanks
 , Advertising ?? oh really.
It was named that because that way if you already have a login.aspx file for whatever reason it does not interfere which is a good thing. It has nothing to do with advertising.
Next off you never mentioned having an issue with it saying aspprotect in it. I am EXTREMELY clear about what I support and do not regarding ASPProtect.NET. If you are upset because I didn't tell you exactly what to edit and change in visual studio.net and hold your hand you are out of line. My god, I sent you to like the best and most detailed tutorial on how to setup and use the application with VS.NET that could ever exist. That took forever to put together. I even responded to your post on Christmas on a Sunday. I doubt too many companies would have responded on Christmas.
More importantly than that when you purchase code from CJWSoft you are purchasing digital source code and there are no refunds. Every single page in the CJWSoft family states that very cleary in the footer. I do not appretiate it when someone threatens a chargeback and as far as I am concerned anyone that does that is commiting a crime of theft. I also do not appretiate smart comments saying it's "obvious" etc etc
If you wanted to strike a nerve with me you did. If you want to commit a crime and be a thief that is your business as well. Obviously I can not stop that and the credit card company will take your side. I work very hard on the source code I sell and my policies on everything are VERY clear.
Advertising ?? Calling the credit card company ?? Obvious ??
nice, real nice , Hi,
I really look forward to installing V7...
I would like to test V7 by copying my existing V6 to a NEW directory,
including the database with new connection, and using this duplicate to
do an upgrade for TESTING PURPOSES ONLY before commiting to upgrading
the main system.
Should this cause any problem?
Tx,
Leon
, Hello,
Thank you for the feedback.
I would like to point out the requirements of the application however as this is something I am aware of and do address.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo165-1.htm
These requirments are directly linked to from the ASPProtect v7 web page, so its not like I dont try to tell people the deal regarding SQL server.
Basically I only have the resources to provide scipts and instructions for using SQL Enterprise Manager and that is all I officially support. I also personally think anyone using a SQL Server should be using SQL Enterprise Manager because later on down the road there are things you may want to do such as backups/etc etc
Take Care,
Chris Williams www.CJWSoft.com , well, I was curious myself so I just tried it.
Good news is it worked just as I thought.
Only problem is your changing things to allow authentication info to be passed over the net in a url. If you can live with the security implications then it will work. I mean a sniffer could see that and end up knowing the username and password.. not likely but just putting that out there.
Of course now that I think about it unless you are running under SSL (https://) when you log in normally that info is in the post info anyway and possible to get at.. course not right out in the open like when you put it in the url and less likely to be noticed.
As long as your not doing it to access critical areas like the admin pages... and you monitor the log files once in a while it's probably nothing to worry about. , You cant do it from initial lohin, but you can do it from the time of registration signup. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo170-1.htm
As for the emailing thing it is most likely an email sending issue more than a code problem. For example spam filters incorrectly grabiing those emails or something of that nature..
Best thing to do is try different things for emailing options until you get something that works. I suggest using CDOSYS with a real email server and using a valid email account for yourself at that email domain. SMTP authentication if necessary. This will ensure the emails sent have valid MX records and dont get treated as spam.
, I have just started to move my sites to a new dedicated Windows 2003 box. I have parent paths enabled, SSI turned on but I still can't get ../ to work with server side includes. Everything I read online says that I need to turn on parent paths but again, they are already turned on.
The hosting company where the server is located can't tell me anything, they just say that that is the way it is with Windows 2003. I don't buy it!
Can anyone tell me anything on this issue to help enable the ../ for serverside includes? ,

Don't want to install the application ? Having trouble doing it ? Don't think you can ? |
No problem, have us install it for you.
PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS
Installation service is generally available Mon - Fri during the hours of 10 am - 7 pm EST. We may very well be around to do installs at other times but we do not guarantee that.
To do an install we generally need FrontPage Explorer or FTP access to your site. We also need a way to set permissions on any necessary directories, etc etc.
To do a SQL Server install we need to access your SQL server via Enterprise Manager.
Some installs may require access to other things not mentioned.
The server must be a properly set up NT/2000/2003 server running IIS 4-6 for ASP 3.0 applications. (with support for ASP scripts and database connectivity.) Parent Paths must be enabled on the server.
Please Note: These ASP scripts do not run under Chillisoft ASP. That means they do not run under Unix, Linux, Apache, etc etc. We do not install our applications on free ASP Hosting solutions. Why, because they are more trouble than they are worth. Free hosts like that are usually zero help if we need something changed. There is a reason they are free.
We install the software in it's base configuration. We make sure it is running correctly. If you break the installation you will have to pay to have it fixed. We do not integrate it with your existing site or edit any of your existing web content. That is up to you. Installation fees are non refundable as is the digital source code we sell. When you purchase anything from us you agree to this.
We do not do installs for IPNFulfill and Color Sequence Protection as they are simple scripts and do not even use a database.. We also do not install the IPN Support Pack as it is just a folder you copy into your web and some configuration files that you must decide how to configure based on your needs and your PayPal account info.
