OK, I just spent like an hour in your site.. I almost gave up
1st off... I don't know what FTP Program/Settings or what OS you are using but all the ASP Protect Files had been reformatted in a odd way which was causing some issues and the database also had problems. Your somehow introducing all sorts of UNIX line breaks to all the files and the database was actually missing some crucial parts of itself and was corrupted. So I had to update everything which means a new database. I have never seen anything like it but I fixed it all. Its something you are doing but I do not know what. Maybe your unzipping method again ?
So to get back into the admin area...
admin test
Now, the reason the albums were not showing is because you are using the ole connection string which causes problems like that. However because you host has like the worst setup ever with that network path crap for the site that was the only connection string that would work for some reason.
I highly suggest a new host with a proper setup for running ASP. www.alentus.com Your hosting companies setup is horrid as far as I am concerned. Access Databases are not meant to be connected to via a network path. http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2168
Anyway, I rewrote some of the code because of the ole connection and got the albums showing up for you.. who knows what other problems that OLE connection may bring up in the future.. for now things I tested seem ok.
As for your broken image in the your header/footer... You cant link to images and links using virtual pathing in those includes because the files are called from different directories and will work in some and not others
so when your in the root you see the image, when in a different folder you see a broken image
In other words.
link to
http://www.vickerylightning.com/gallery/vickery_template5_r2 _c1.jpg
not just
vickery_template5_r2_c1.jpg
The same goes for hyperlinks.. use the full url paths
Whatever you do...Back up the gallery folder with my changes before you go doing anything. , I have purchased ASPProtect to secure a web site that I administor for a soccer league. I am having a hard time getting the code to execute. the instructions are to include this code at the top of the web page under the Language identifier. Like this I think:
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!-- Begin ASPProtect Code --> <!-- Groups with access to this page. ( * Admins * ) --> <% GROUPACCESS = "4" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <!-- End ASPProtect Code -->
However, nothing happens. I am not sure if I am missing something.
FYI: the "Check_user_inc.asp" file is in the root directory of the site which is actually two levels down on the d: drive of the server. The web page code is located below.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

,
Okay, here's the problem. The out of the box sql script creates a catalog called aspphotogallery and a user id aspphotogalleryuser.
The out of the box GalleryConnectionString tries to access a catalog called aspgallery and a user id aspgallery
'*** GalleryConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=p600laptop;Initial Catalog=aspgallery;User Id=aspgallery;Password=temp;"
I see the readme.txt has been corrected but the line in dataconn_inc.asp still needs to be changed. lancem38325.9032986111, Any updates on this ?, OK, I figured out the problem. Not running ASP becasue the pages are not saved as ASP but rather HTM... OK so I am smart like a tractor but strong like an ox. cwilliams38229.9128819444, The application is only intended for use with $ the way it comes. Use of other currencies is not supported. (this is noted on the product page)
However, it can probably be used fairly easily with UK customers.
You'll probably want to look into setting the currency to UK in the code generated for the PayPal buttons which is in "view_item.asp". There is probably a hidden form variable you add to it to specify the currency. PayPal's shopping cart documentation and help system would have more info on that.
Doing a search real quick there I came up with this.
<input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="GBP">
Then you may also want to change the LCID settings for the web site to UK. (I think)
To do that edit the "config_inc.asp" file with a text editor.
Add this code between the <% and %> tags. Near the top is good
Session.LCID = 2057 There may also be hard coded dollar signs in the code that you will need to change to whatever.. If after you do the above to steps you see then you'll know where to change them based on the named of the page you on.
It is quite possible that simply changing the LCID will take care of everything, but I am not sure.
Those are the tips I can give you. , did you read what this thread says about that session variable for groups not be created by default
you have to add code so it sgets created before you can check it... this thread talks about that, DONE IT
DON'T WORRY!
DON'T ASK HOW, BUT NOW IT WORKS!!
THANK YOU IF IT WAS YOU, OR THANK YOU GOD IF IT WAS ME!!! , I am running Windows 2000 server. I do believe asp.net IS installed as I have the .NET 1.1 framework installed.
Funny about the bounce backs. I am at about 10% of my limit, which I control as I am the network admin. I'll check into that. , that erorr in no way means what it says.. it is just a generic error because something failed.
if you want to PM me info on how to get into your site and I will take a look.. I don't think it is something that can be figured out otherwise especially when you are not telling much about what is going on. There are a lot of factors and settings that are relevant. , ok, The way the application works is one separate installation and database is required for each (IIS Application).... not only is it a licensing thing but it is also the nature of (forms based authentication) because every application in IIS has it's own set of application and session variables and they can not be shared with other various IIS applications.
That being said if you plan to run a separate install for each web/IIS application buying new licenses is fine
If you want to run one installation and database and share that with other web.IIS applications it is not technically possible.
Each web/IIS application requires a seperate install of ASPProtect.NET, Is there an easy way to make this work with reoccurring a monthly or yearly subscription? , Tell tell me some info about your install?
How am I supposed to know what is going on when you are not showing me what you have in your web config file and also the directory structure of the install or what you are putting in a page you are trying to protect ? It almost sounds like you are not editing the paths correctly in the various places. I mean yes you told me something about the "map" folder but what I saying is tell me more detail.
BTW: this is a very important setting in the web.config file and must be edited accordingly so the path is right.
<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" />
Basically your showing me random errors and posts left and right and I honestly have no idea what your doing ?
Ulitmately though I am trying to help you in this situation like the web site says.
We offer tech support for installation of the base application purchased in it's native form. In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine.
Meaning I am not going to keep this up if you keep asking question after question after question regardign your local XP Pro installation. There is only so much I can assume or guess when you are running this on a local development server. I know you got all sorts of problems getting a decent live server to run this on but that just isn't my problem. Get this up and running on a professionaly and correctly setup live server and when these random configuration errors pop up atl least I can go run the pages and look at them. Right now I am just confused by nearly everything you have posted today. Half of looks like basic ASP.NET path issues that you need to sort of on your own based on where you installed the application on the machine and what you have in the web.config file.. etc etc etc
It is sounding more and more like ASP.NET is way over your head. If you want a copy of the classic ASP version of ASPProtect you are welcome to it. I think you will be a lotter better off sticking to classic ASP unless you really start reading up on ASP.NET and learning more about how forms based authentication and the web.config file work. , I just did a quick google search... found a ton of info on how to find the setting. Here is one...
These are directions for IIS6 but the process is similar for IIS4-5
- Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
- Double-click your computer name in the left pane, and then double-click Web Sites.
- Locate the Web site and directory that houses the ASP application.
- Right-click the application site or directory, and then click Properties.
- Select Home Directory, and then click Configuration.
- Click Options, and then click to select the Enable Parent Paths check box.
- Click OK two times.
cwilliams38148.5822453704, There was nothing wrong with the server configuration. It turned out that the problem was that I disabled the email notification of new user registrations that I continually receive. That appears to disable the authorization email to new users as well.
One other issue. It appears that AOL email addressee's are not getting the authorization email. Does AOL have any blocks to CDONT generated emails?
, Thanks, I really appreciate you working on this. The software works GREAT and the support you give can't be beat. I will definately tell other that are looking for software for their sites to check your first.
one more question.
To use the bulk upload feature of aspuload, do I just need to add another upload section to the same upload page, that will allow more than one file to be selected then tell it to put the files in as Photo 1, 2, 3 etc.? I am a rookie at ASP but I think this is possible and with a little research I should be able to get it going.
Just want to make sure I am on the right track.
Thanks , thats a new one... I need some sort of error to go on..
No error ever ? It must eventually show something ? , I had both ASP Listings & Classified on the same website. The categories seem to be getting mixed up. I removed ASP Classified but classfieds categories is still appearing in the student of ASP Listing.
How do I fix this?
Thanks , yeah.. thats an old graphic probably only seen in a few places.
it is not on the main site http://www.cjwsoft.com/ or here http://www.aspprotect.com/ or here http://www.aspbanner.com/ or here http://www.aspclassifieds.com/ or here http://www.aspphotogallery.com/
but I am sure there are a couple of pages left over still using it like the aspvendor and asplistings pages.. etc I am aware of it, just been too busy to go change them and I didn't consider it a big deal
2003 servers are NT based anyway , MODS are NOT SUPPORTED.. questions about them will not be answered in the support forums. If you want to use a MOD you are considered an advanced user and will need to sort out any issues that may or may not come up.
MODS are used at your own risk and may or may not require certain basic coding skills. , (customer replied aug-sep 2005)
OK, you have old code then... I will send you some updated files that you can try.. let me know here if it solves the problem. , if you are talking about IPN subscriptions and how they work paypal has detailed manauls on their site.. if you are talking about asp.net in general there are probably a lot of good books..
the reason I said look at the aspprotect 7 code is cause the applications and database are very similar and the same techniques will apply for the most part as far as how the ipn subscription posts from paypal talk to the database and what happens during the various post events.. etc etc etc , sorry.. you just said above you were using XP SP2 so that is the article I referred you to as I just assumed you were talking about your local web server
here is my article on permissions regarding server 2003 http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_2003_server_and_ permissions.asp
I can look at your installation monday if you like. In about an hour I leave for a wedding thingie and I wont be around again untill monday around noon
Try the uploading using VBSCRIPT method just for the heck of it. Perhaps there is an issue with the installation of the dundas component.
CJW
, I think this addresses your question
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo144-1.htm
, While I originally thought the login form on a non-protected page idea may be similar in setup to how our Classic ASP version of ASPProtect works I could not have been more incorrect. Truth is I forgot that it works a lot differently.
ASP.NET Web forms are meant to post to themselves and there is thing called the viewstate. (google it.. its a hidden variable the server creates in the form code that is required when the form posts back to itself.. and hold all sorts of information the server uses) Doing what you are asking about means disabling the viewstate and that can have big consequences and break certain things.
Basically you cant just put a form on a non-protected page and post to a protected page if the viewstate is enabled. Disabling it can break certain web controls like data grids .etc etc.. and can also have an effect on how the session is managed at the site and sometimes disabling it is not possible depending on what is going on cause you need it.
I am still doing research on the whole thing, but it looks to me like doing that is going to have a tradeoff of some sort.
That does not mean this isn't possible somehow. I am still researching and I am also going to see what John Evans thinks.
I told you .NET was complicated.
As for your other question that is something you have to sort out on your own by editing the code and recompiling it based on your custom project needs. It is not something I can help you with. , on that particular page check the session variables manually (not using the include)
that way you are keeping the login access checking to an absolute minimum, elminating any form processing from the login procedure, and keeping the upload script happy
like so
<% If Not InStr(Session("Groups"),"*1*") Then ' do whatever End If %>
you could response.write something followed by a response.end
or you might even want to response.redirect them to some other page that using the "check_user_inc.asp" where they can log in
And if you are going to be using a free asp upload script use this one as it is probably the best pure code upload solution available as far as performance goes.
http://www.freeaspupload.net , Still not having much success. I am using SQL server. I changed the permission in the following directory :sql server data\mssql\data. Is that the database directory you are referring to?, Here is an example of a query I made in MSACCESS that deletes all users that belong to Group ID of 3. I used the graphical query designer in MSACCESS to do this. Took a few minutes.
DELETE FROM ASPP_Users WHERE (((InStr([ASPP_Users]![Groups],"*3*"))>"0"));
Because of the way groups are stored in the Groups fields you have to use the InStr function to determine if the user is part of a particular group We are deleting all users that of Group ID of 1 so we look for *3* in this example
The SQL statement for a MSSQL database may be slightly different but the general Idea is the same
The SQL statment used in an ".asp" page will be very similar as well.
SQL Statements are the TRUE POWER of working with databases. They are something everyone should learn to work with because they allow you to do some very powerful things., No rush, I have it out on the internet, but have not gone live with the site yet.
Thanks for responding,
Enjoy your well deserved break , I used Dreamweaver4 to make my site is there anything I can do to make it work? , in Control_pic.asp is there way to wrap the description field so that it doesn't go outside the table.
Thanks , When I add a user, I can not activat it.
What do you have the registration type set to in the settings ? They wont be activated automatically unless you have "automatically" selected ?
It sends me back to log on and will now allow me to log in as admin???
I am not quite sure I understand ? Seems to me like that would be normal because you can always log in as the admin at any time. If you cant log in as the user you just signed up as that could be for a couple reasons relating to the registration type you have slected in the settings. There are 3 types all epxlained in the settings screen. Some require manual activation byt the admin, some involve a registration email.. etc etc
I can restart the APP and log in as Admin, but the user I added is still not activated??
How and why are you restarting the applicaton ? Please explain what your doing there.
My system will also not allow me to set the Stay Loged in FLag. It just ignores it....
As I told you in an email earlier cookies must be enabled for authentication to work. You mentioned now you can not log off ? I am not sure I know what you mean by that. I assume you know to close all browser windows when testing things like this and I assume you know you have specifically log off and confim it in order to remove the remember me cookie and have to log in again when you return to the site. , "I can login for the first time."
when you say that what exactly does that mean, because in this version you do not just log in for the 1st time.
What I am saying is there are steps where you run a special page to intially get into the system, then you setup a new user, then you make them an admin, and then you can log in as them.
You left all of that out of your story...
I really need all details in order to help.. is this an upgrade or a new install, etc etc etc
I would also advise very carefully comparing the fields in your sql database to the sql creation scripts to make sure all the field settings are correct.
Lastly, please tell me what name/email you ordered the product under so I can check your purchase.
Thanks, Interesting.. Yes, the SMTP service is turned on. This is my boogle. If they are both installed, then it should in theory work. But for some reason, it is being subborn and not working., Not a problem. Have a good time at your wedding.
thanks! , Or at least I think so. I have been trying to get this software to work so I can see if it meets our needs for an upgrade purchare. Here is my error.
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e10'
No value given for one or more required parameters.
/aspprotect/scripts/populate_config_variables_inc.asp, line 15
My provider says that the problem is NOT on there end, that it is a problem with the code. I think that it is a database connection problem. Can you please help. Below is my connection string based on what the setup page directed me to do:
ConnectionString = "data source=\\NAWINFS03\home\users\web\b1347\rh.957theride\asppro tect\data\database\ASPProtect_access2002.mdb; Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Jet OLEDB:Database Password=temp"
When I first set up the program I got this error:
Provider error '8000ffff' Catastrophic failure /aspprotect/scripts/populate_config_variables_inc.asp, line 11
Once again, the looked into it and said the permissions were fine and that the code was most likely bad. But then the errror changed to the one that I first listed. Which is the one I am currently getting.
BTW here is the page address
http://www.957theride.com/aspprotect/password_admin/get_me_i n.asp
Thank you! , Help!.. I need to export the username and password fields to a mail merged letter so everyone knows their username and passwords. However whenever i access the database or do an export. The passwords showup as encrypted. Is there a way to access the list, un encrypted?
thanks , You can mix and match banner calling methods all you want. Try it and see what happens.
However, the only method that is going to work on non ".asp" pages is the javascript or the new iframe method listed in the support forums.
cwilliams38209.532349537, You should not have single quotes around the "-1" because Album_Active is not a string field in the database. It's true/false or bit field in the database depending on the database you are using (MSSQL or ACCESS)
I'd do it a little more like this I think.
SELECT COUNT(Album_ID) AS Alb_Count FROM " & tbl_label_albums & " WHERE User_ID = " & CmdListUsers("User_ID") & " AND Album_Active = 1"
I took out the parentheses as well since I dont believe they are needed in a simple case like this
but is hard to say unless your the one testing it... my version might have a mistake as I am a little rusty with my SQL at the moment
also: in case your wondering... depending on the situation and the odbc drivers the 1 and -1 should work either way but sometimes it's picky and you have to do it one way or the other cwilliams38433.0564930556,
