FYI. There is a typo in the upgrade (6.0 to 7.0) instructions. It specifies adding a field named "passwords". Should be "password"., Christopher
I have gone back to your original files and uploaded them to another server folder and instead of using a DSN I have tried this with a DSN less connection and changed the database to MS Access 2002.
This has corrected the problem. I will check this out again using the DSN with access 2002 to see if this was the problem. It may be something to do with an older format of database on this particular server.
I will let you know what I find.
Thanks for your quick reply. ,
maybe this is the issue...
do you realize that the descriptive name you give a group is not always going to be the same ID in the database ? The two are not related.
Perhaps what you named Group 1 is really group ID 3
You can tell for sure by generating protection code for group 1 and see what ID it tells you to use..
You also need to remember that you are testing this with different users and it is really easy to get confused so you need specifically log off using the log off page to ensure session info from the previous login doesn't show up and cause confusion when you log in with a different user... etc etc
in addition to logging off that way you may also want clear the session and application info via the code at the bottom of my article http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/displaying-session-and-a pplication-variables.asp
and do that in between any user you log in as , Redirecting is not something ASPProtect does because you can do that sort of thing using simple ASP redirects.
In all of these examples you are going to want to protect the pages you send these users to accordingly. So that if they know the url they just cant go their directly without loging in.
Redirecting example.. This page will redirect admins or level 4 users to a certain page and anyone else to another page. <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% If Session("Admin") = "True" or Session("Access_Level") = "4" Then Response.Redirect("sompage.asp") Else Response.Redirect("someotherpage.asp") End If %>
Redirecting example.. This page will redirect level 1 users to a certain page. level 2 users to certain page, and anyone else to another page. <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% If Session("Access_Level") = "1" Then Response.Redirect("level1.asp") ElseIf Session("Access_Level") = "2" Then Response.Redirect("level2.asp") Else Response.Redirect("allothers.asp") End If %>
Redirecting example.. This page will redirect user "PistolPete" to a certain page.
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% If Session("Username") = "PistolPete" Then Response.Redirect("somedirectory/somepage.asp") End If %>
then just make sure the page you send the user to to also checks to see if the user is the right user.... to make sure others users can't access each others pages <% If Session("Username") <> "PistolPete" Then Response.Write("You do not have access to this page.") Response.End End If %>
etc etc etc.... these code snippets should point you in the right direction...
, ((TITLE EDITED BY ADMIN))
it would be nice if there was an option for login abuse, where a login account would be flagged if it logged in from x number of different IPs over a period of time. I know many have dynamic IPs, but there's got to be a balance between legitimate logins and logins that are 'shared' for the sake of saving money (I sell subscriptions), in the end costing me.
Maybe searching the first two number groups in the IP (example, 209.168.*.*), and if finding more than an admin specified number of logins per week from IPs with different first two groups, the record would be flagged or locked...
, When I add a user, I can not activat it.
It sends me back to log on and will now allow me to log in as admin???
I can restart the APP and log in as Admin, but the user I added
is still not activated??
My system will also not allow me to set the Stay Loged in FLag.
It just ignores it....
, yes, like macnap says.... you have to protect your ".asp" pages the way the directions tell you to...
and like in the "example" protected pages we provide
or they will not be protected and nothing will happen as far as ASPProtect goes
I guess I just didnt understand what you were talking about
, That worked...but when I tried importing the test user, the password was imported in an add formated...like it was encrypted, and I can't log in using the User ID that I imported., Christopher
Thanks for a speedy reply. This is what I have used most recently...
ListingsConnectionString = "DSN=longreach;UID=lradmin;PWD=skipper;" DatabaseType = "SQL"
but that throws an error of:
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
I have private messaged you my SQL server IP address. I am a fast learner with ASP (I think!) but some things really catch me out! , I purchased the ASPGallery Pro last week and still cannot get it running. When I enter www.vickerylightning.com/aspgallery/dataconn_inc.asp on the screen it says "Not a valid bookmark"
Below is the connection string. My hosting company uses server map paths:

Definitely need some assistance!
Rhona (rookie asp) -
, just FYI -- i added in a new data table into the database. I
havent finished implementing the whole thing across the entire site,
but it wasn't too difficult. Once I have all of the functionality
complete I'll post some details. Some of the changes are the
addition of a new album nav style which combines style 2 and some of
the features of the new data table.
Very easy app to work with guys.
, I have an asp page that includes other asp pages via an include. for example:
snippet code: file name: collaboration.asp
<table bgcolor="#bed1e4" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="10" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0"> <tr> <td> <!--#include file="../../../filetransfer/directory_listing2.asp" --> <BR><BR> <!--#include file="../../../filetransfer/upload.asp" --> </td></tr> </table>
I can add the code below to collaboration.asp and it seems to work, but I cant seem to figure out how to protect the other files such as upload.asp at the same time. -- can you help? - Note: as soon as I add the code below (and adjust the path) - I cant bring up the page.
This is the protection code I am using.
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="../../../../aspprotect/check_user_inc.asp"-->
Shirely , If a picture does not show after uploading it is one of the following things.
The upload method chosen is not supported on the server or The physical path specified to the pictures folder is not correct. or The URL to the Pictures folder is not correct. or Permissions to the pictures folder have not been set properly
Here is more information on how permissions are set.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo136-1.htm http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo56-1.htm
Without more information and the settings you have entered and chosen that is all I can offer for now. , Please Note : Users with the option pack a new feature called groups that is much more powerful than access levels.
More On Access Levels
Again, Examples of managing Access Levels are provided in the "multiple_access_levels" folder included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code of the ASP pages in that folder with a text editor to see the working code.
Access Levels and how they work can be re-coded to work in many different ways. However, you have to be a good ASP developer to make changes to it. Here is some information on how they work by default and also info on an alternate scenario we have provided.
In the "check_user_inc.asp" that comes in the root of this system Access Levels works as follows.
Level 1 has Access to - Level 1 Level 2 has Access to - Level 1,2 Level 3 has Access to - Level 1,2,3 Level 4 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4 Level 5 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5 Level 6 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6 Level 7 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 Level 8 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN
The "check_user_inc.asp" included in the "extras" directory is an example of changing the access level checking code to work differently. In that "check_user_inc.asp" Access Levels works as follows.
Level 1 has Access to - Level 1 Level 2 has Access to - Level 2 Level 3 has Access to - Level 3 Level 4 has Access to - Level 4 Level 5 has Access to - Level 5 Level 6 has Access to - Level 6 Level 7 has Access to - Level 7 Level 8 has Access to - Level 8 ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN
If you get creative you can create some interesting access level checking scenarios.
Here is some additional info..
If the access levels are too restrictive you can ignore them all together and create your own totally custom solutions. Here is a quick rundown of some of the things you can do.
Ok... so if you want to be really specific about what each user can see and can't .. here's an example of what you can do
Don't use the access levels before the include file.. Don't worry about what you set a user to in the admin area since the access levels won't be used.
Do something like this..
Every time a user logs in session variables are set that you can access at any time.. thus allowing you to know who they are.
So you could do something like this...
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
<% If Session("USERNAME") = "bob1267" or Session("USERNAME") = "carl45" or Session("ADMIN") = "True" Then Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "Yes" Else Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "No" Response.Redirect(Request.ServerVariables("script_name")) End If %>
The following URL explains what Redirects are. http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/redirects.asp
That would in effect create totally custom access levels.. but you would have to do it manually for each user.
You can also do things like this after a person logs in
Show custom html to any specific user based on either their username or access level ... like so
say there was a menu and a certain link should only show up to username "paully67"
you could do something like this
<HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE></TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY>
<br> <a href="main.asp">Home Page</a> <% If Session("USERNAME") = "paully67" Then %> <br> <a href="paullys_page.asp">Pauls Stats Page</a> <% End If %> <br> <a href="links.asp">Links Page</a>
</BODY> </HTML>
Or you can show custom HTML or links based on Access Levels or any other info.
You can do just about anything with if-then statements and using the built in vbscript functions..
Hopefully this info will help to give you some ideas...
Bottom line is you have to do some work within your site to make the Access Level system really come alive. cwilliams38114.6506712963, That is by design and how it is designed to function.
There is no easy way to do what you are asking about.
Can it be done ?, sure!!
But it is a lot of custom coding to sort it all out and not something we support.
If I were you I would simply edit the login box screen to show some hyperlinks and options should a person need to use them. , ok, that does not work but that still is not enough to help me troubleshoot.
I'll probably need to look around in your admin area and check things out in order to figure anything out.
I will also need to see the protection code you put on that page exactly as it appears.
PM (private message) the admin usersname/password to me if that is ok with you and I will check it out
it's really the only way I can help with an issue like this. I have to make sure you didn't do something wrong and then go from there , i will probably end up doing this myself, but dropping all the log data in a sql table would be nice as it offers much more flexibility on how an admin can keep track and use the data. Browsing through each log file is very inconvenient. I can search for text in the files (server-side, others with a shared server would probably have to separately download all log files first), but with the current method I don't have the following important options:
- cannot sort by any criteria
- quickly see a list of all login attempts by a specific user (i need to search each log file individually for this info)
if you had an option during setup perhaps (or elsewhere) in a future version that allowed an admin to specify the preferred logging method (separate files or a table in sql) i'm sure many admins would find it very useful to have a database alternative of keeping track of users becuase it would offer the two benefits listed above, plus more. , this error really does not mean anything specific
Your browser must support a standard called RFC 1867. Please check with your browser vendor for support of this standard"
If you get an error its real weird that the file is being uploaded. Generally if you get an error during upload it is because of one of these 3 things
Invalid physical path specified
Unsupported upload method chosen
Permissions
See my article on XP and permissions http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_xp_pro_and_permi ssions.asp
many people dont do their permissions right on XP Pro and that article covers everything , there is no straight answer to a question like that..
I think my code is very easy to figure out and work with...
What your asking all depends on your skills and also what sort of payment processing system/merchant account you go with and what sort of ASP example code they provide you, You know what, you really are frigin goofy to say you might think we
didn't write the software. I got source code to the license dll as well
as about 12 revisions of the application sitting on my development
server as well as about 1200 emails between John & Myself as we
worked on it. Not to mention all those .vb files that come with the
application. What do you think those are ? I bet you don't even really
know based on something you said in one of your earlier forum posts.
Did you even read this cause this is YOU... !!! http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo234-1.htm And we say right on the ASPProtect.NET product page to read that article before making a purchase.
Moving
on... it basically says on the site ASPProtect.NET works the way
it is shown to work. You can use it that way or you can further edit
the code with Visual Studio.NET. If you are so good with asp.net then
you should be editing the code to work differently or writing your own
authentication that works exactly how you want it to. End of story. You
keep arguing about things your done... you are so done !!! I won't keep
putting up with you., Banners no longer show up on my site ?
If banners were working fine and now they are just not showing up. 1st check to see that you are calling a valid zone with live banners in it. If you are then most likely this it what hapened.
The web server must have crashed or lost power and now the application variables are in limbo/not working.
I have seen this happen 3 times. Twice on my own server when the power went out for 2 hours and once on a customers server.
Basically the application variable system gets all messed up because it was not shut down properlly.
The ways to possibly cure it are as follows.
Edit and save a banner in the system. Hopefully that gets things going again. If not... keep reading for the more drastic cures..
Go to the command prompt on the server and type "iisreset" Sometimes that is enough.
Reboot the server. Sometimes that is enough.
Stop the web in the IIS console. Sometimes that is enough.
Stop the individual processes for each web in iis "you must really know what you doing and be very careful about doing this"
Remove and recreate new applications in IIS for the web in question.
And sometimes it just takes a combination of the things listed above and a few reboots. I don't know the best way to cure it but I do know why it happens and the steps listed above can get things back on track.
Again, this is because the server lost power or crashed as far as I know. It was not allowed to shut down properly which sometimes happens.
You'll know things are ok again when you see your banners show up on your site. cwilliams38295.0183101852, The Double DIM needs to be removed for this code to work properly.
<% Dim BannerZone, BannerConnectionString, BannerDatabaseType, ConnBannerSystem Dim CmdCheckUser, CmdGetConfiguration, App_Name, Config_SQL, BodyTag, BanDataConn Dim CmdBannerTemp, CmdGetZones, ZoneString, ZoneArray, ZoneIndex, CmdUpdateWaiting Dim CmdUpdateExpired, CmdRetrieveImpLimitedAds, CmdRetrieveImpressions Dim CmdUpdateImpHit, CmdRetrieveAds, CycleBannerTotal, CycleList, NewCycleList Dim Dim LoopBanner, CycleLoop, CycleListArray, CycleListArrayIndex, BannerCycleData Dim Banner_Array, CurrentBanner, NewCycleListArray, Banner_Array2, LocationIndex Dim Stop_Processing, Keep_Processing, CmdUpdateStats %> , Is there a limit to how many access levels the program has? We were thinking of having a different access level for each client that logs on our site so we can customize their web experience. We see 6 in one place of the program, 8 in another, but is there any reason why we couldn't make 100 more?
Thanks again for the help! , in that file "upload_post.asp"
change
<% If Session("Admin") <> "True" Response.End End If %>
to
<% If Session("Admin") <> "True" Then Response.End End If %>
, one more problem I see...
I think your login box on the main page is missing the hidden form variable
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo169-1.htm, Hi, I am wondering if I can redirect users with "GROUPACCESS"
just like access levelS. I tried to redirect using both "Groups"
and "GROUPACCESS" example below:
<%
If Session("GROUPACCESS") = "1" Then
Response.Redirect("group1.asp")
Else
Response.Redirect("allothers.asp")
End If
%>
I could only get the Access_Level to actually redirect. Is
this something the option pack supports? If so, any words of
advice?
, For all you advanced users..
Here are two examples of ASP.NET code you can use on your ".aspx" pages to call banners from the ASP 3.0 version of ASPBaner Unlimited V8
This code is not supported... and you of course must change things accordingly like the variable names and zone numbers to match the zone you want to call banners from as well as the url.

cwilliams38226.6523263889, Ok, if the link to the import/export screen does not show up its probably because you never put the import/export path in the admin settings?
go check that for me.
cause running that page without a path for the files could cause a timeout.. thats why the link doesn't show if the path is not entered (so people won't run it)
it looks sorta like this (there will be a field to fill in which wont show here)
Settings below specify the physical directory path of the export directory. This is used by the system when using the import/export feature. The export directory needs modify permissions for the anonymous webserver account. |
ExportDirectory |
| the path must be valid for your file structure and it must have correct permissions (when creating files) , Advertising ?? oh really.
It was named that because that way if you already have a login.aspx file for whatever reason it does not interfere which is a good thing. It has nothing to do with advertising.
Next off you never mentioned having an issue with it saying aspprotect in it. I am EXTREMELY clear about what I support and do not regarding ASPProtect.NET. If you are upset because I didn't tell you exactly what to edit and change in visual studio.net and hold your hand you are out of line. My god, I sent you to like the best and most detailed tutorial on how to setup and use the application with VS.NET that could ever exist. That took forever to put together. I even responded to your post on Christmas on a Sunday. I doubt too many companies would have responded on Christmas.
More importantly than that when you purchase code from CJWSoft you are purchasing digital source code and there are no refunds. Every single page in the CJWSoft family states that very cleary in the footer. I do not appretiate it when someone threatens a chargeback and as far as I am concerned anyone that does that is commiting a crime of theft. I also do not appretiate smart comments saying it's "obvious" etc etc
If you wanted to strike a nerve with me you did. If you want to commit a crime and be a thief that is your business as well. Obviously I can not stop that and the credit card company will take your side. I work very hard on the source code I sell and my policies on everything are VERY clear.
Advertising ?? Calling the credit card company ?? Obvious ??
nice, real nice , My ISP uses ASPSmartMail. The email confirmation works except when I try to register an AOL user the server returns an error 500.
, Below is the email I received when testing the self-registration. Does anyone know what setting I configured incorrectly?
I received the email to confirm the registration but the link to activate is invalied.
Thanks!
Your registration still has to be validated. Go to ?u=bubbaj&v=4579 to verify your registration.
, Rather than bill customers through my PayPal account in $$$ can I get ASPProtect to send through the amount to PayPal in £ (pounds sterling)?
I am using PayPal (non-subscription) [paypal_signup]
Many thanks
Ian , The parent paths things really should not be an issue.
This is an article from the troubleshooting section of the documentation that takes care of it all very easily.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo162-1.htm
As for a good host that knows ASP and does not mess around when you ask for something. I always recommened www.alentus.com
, ok... lets forget about all this redirecting business for a minute
when I go to "GP01.asp" directly via your web site I get a big nasty error that says this
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0411'
Name redefined
/protect/config_inc.asp, line 15 Dim Address_Required,CDONTS_Installed,City_Required,Registration _Type,VerifyURL,Log_Off_Page
----^
then when I look at what you did in that file I see why
you have this code which is totally wrong because you cannot include the password protection file twice <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% GROUPACCESS = "*1*" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
it should be <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<% GROUPACCESS = "*1*" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> and that is probably the root of this entire problem.. the redirection was working... but you were sending them to invalid pages with errors
all those pages are wrong... if you dont see the real error above see this http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo11-1.htm
if you look over the aspprotect 7 installation instructions that is the very 1st thing I tell people to do
hopefully this is the info you need to continue and get some work done , Hi,
Sorry, but if ".asp" pages download instead of run on a server then that means ASP is not working on the server and is not configured correctly. That is about as low level as it gets and it is really the hosting companie's responsibilty to sort that one out.
It is totally a system admininister's job to make sure that sort of thing is working. If this place supports ASP they really need to fix that for you. There really is nothing I can do for you until ".asp" pages at least run.
As for the Free install... that is no problem. Of course you need to get the hosting company to fix the web before I can be of any help. There is more to that problem then permissions.
For starters I would make a simple ".asp" page with hardly anything it (even some simple html text is fine) and ask them why it is downloading instead of executing and to please fix things. , ahh, I see..
that is not really something you should change.. it is pretty much always going to say read for any folder
It's hard to say, but adjusting settings like that could inadvertently change folder permissions in a way that could cause problems and be hard to correct. I really don't know that for sure but it is very easy to totally mess up permissions when trying different things. In the past I had to reinstall iis just to get things back to normal. I eventually over time learned what to do and what not to do and have never had a problem since. I am not saying you are one of those people but a lot of people have problems because they play around with things they shouldn't or they go nuts trying to give every account permission starting from root folders... overwriting important default permissions instead of just making changes to a few specific folders.. not understanding the importance of what they are doing..... etc etc
Sometimes you practically have to be a NT expert just to fully understand permissions. I know a lot and I can handle my own server but it's hard to explain the low level basic of NT permissions to others as there is a lot to it under the scenes. A lot of hard core NT/2000 users do all the permissions from the command prompt because there is a lot more control at that level.
Like I said earlier, what you showed me looks right but this isn't a complex issue and the error means what it means. Something isn't right with the permissions.
I would start from scratch if I were you. Perhaps consider doing an install in a new web instead of in your root like you showed me. Or try installing it on another machine for troubeshooting sake.
I am sorry I can't think of some amazing answer on this one, but I think this is just one of those weird situations that requires starting from scratch or trying it on another machine. , humm, I dont know.
If you want me too I would be glad to go into your web site and troubleshoot. If so PM me the info I need and I will take a look and see if I can figure it out.
CJW
, Hello,
You'll need to find a validation function to test for it. Either server side or right in the form via client side javascript.
I dont have any experience with validating zip codes here much less UK.
Google it would be my best advice.. or maybe find some free app written in UK format and see how they did it.
Good Luck..
And if ya find anything post it here if ya like cwilliams38381.5607638889, sorry for delay responding,
I got bombarded with support inquiries while I was gone and I missed this one since I been home.
Does the server_info.asp page I provide say that aspupload is indeed installed. Let's start there. , I did not make a mistake.. what I typed is what I meant to say. I think maybe you are taking it the opposite way as I explained it.
Regardless,
What you want to do... logging them in under https and then having them continue though the site under http is not possible.
It doesn't work that. way. As far as the webserver is concerned https is a totally different site than http and each have their own unique set of application and session variables.
In a sense no different than www.somesite.com is different then somesite.com (each has their own unique set of application and session variables as well).
Now, because of the nature of Forms Based Authentication session varibles created under one will not carry over to the over and thus no password access if you switch over from a secure url to a non secure url.
If you want them logging in under SSL you need to keep them under SSL.
That is not to say there is some ultra complex scenario to mimic the session variables on the non secure side of things (possible with a complex http post to a non secure page from the scure page telling it what variables to create and set), but doing so means a ton of work and also has security concerns of its own. ,
