recently i've been getting a lot of unspecified errors. i've been running aspbanner for about a year and a half now. i don't know what would have caused all these problems. also, for some reason it won't maintain my log-in, ever time i got from page to page or try to submit a form it asks me log-in again.

cwilliams38389.8791550926, This server is sitting in my den on a DSL circuit, so I don't have a hosting company. The install for Windows 2000 server is with default settings for all components installed.
I am not sure what you are referring to when you say:
"Does emailing work under the simplest scenario ? (directly from the users screen"
What user screen?
What settings are you referring to that I may have chosen?
,
All this being said installing the desktop version of SQL may be a little tricky as it may complain that your SA account needs a strict password.
The solution is to run the SQL Desktop setup.exe with some parameters specifying a password for the SA account.
So you go to the command prompt or make a shortcut to the setup file and run something like this
setup.exe SAPWD="YourPassword"
minus the quotes...
I got that info from this article and it worked fine
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Databases/Q_21036508.html
The other thing to remember is it might take a reboot to actually see the SQL server icon running in the taskbar. You may also need to go into the administrative services and enable the "SQLSERVERAGENT" as well as set its startup type to "automatic"
And a reboot here and there..
Whammo... your in business...
, Just checked XML Parsing with your file. Got a clean bill of health on that: It's working.
Got the right code for the location of the ipn.asp in my paypal1.asp, from http:// all the way to .asp.
I think since everything is set up properly from the looks of things,
I'll wait and see. If I get another one who flubs things, then I'll
start the testing of the account. But if it goes through just fine,
then maybe the Internet just hiccoughed on the first guy... thanks
again!
, I'll send you something..
, I purchased the ASPGallery Pro last week and still cannot get it running. When I enter www.vickerylightning.com/aspgallery/dataconn_inc.asp on the screen it says "Not a valid bookmark"
Below is the connection string. My hosting company uses server map paths:
'Create database connection
'Create a connection odject
Set adoCon = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
'Database connection info and driver
'strCon = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=" & Server.MapPath("aspgallery_access2002.mdb")
'Alternative drivers faster than the generic access one above
'strCon = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.3.51; Data Source=" & Server.MapPath("aspgallery_access97.mdb") 'This one is if you use Access 97
'strCon = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & Server.MapPath("aspgallery_access2000.mdb") 'This one is for Access 2000/2002
GalleryConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Jet OLEDB:Database Password=temp; Data Source=\\NAWINFS04\home\users\web\b2623\rh.vickery2004\aspga llery\aspgallery_access2002.mdb; "
GalleryDatabaseType = "MSACCESS"
adoCon.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="&Server.MapPath ("\aspgallery\aspgallery_access2002.mdb") & ";"
Definitely need some assistance!

, Your actually confusing me with the whole "joe bloe" thing and user access. I just do not get what you are trying to tell me. Perhaps you can explain in a less confusing way. Your just not technically explaining it andand thats what I need to know to possibly help.
As for the subweb thing you just can not do that. Subwebs have their own sets of application and session variables. An ASPProtect installation and any pages you protect with it are required to be in the same "application" in IIS. Sicne subwebs have their own "applications" in IIS that won't work. It is the nature of "forms based authentication" A sub web is alo considered by our licensing to be a seperate web site and ASPProtect is licensed per web site.
As for breaking pages.. you really shouldnt be editing any pages in the admin area as you will break them unles you are very good with ASP. (does not sound like you are..no offense meant at all)
Pages in the "users" folder are less complex and it is usually ok to edit them carefully.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/common_sense.asp
Pages of your own that you password protect can still be edited in your usualy way though without effecting anything.
Truth is if you back things up before you start editing how can you go wrong ? That's how you learn.
, dsn-less is the way to go..
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo9-2.htm
you also need to use newer versions of the database as the odbc drivers on the server are sometimes very new and no longer work with access 97 databases
, Chris:
I just got done trying it myself and it worked great for me too. I was aware of the security issue, but I'd already planned on using SSL for this particular call, as well as for the secured pages accessed through the normal process, so the bad guys will be kept at bay.
Thanks for the help.
, It's not normal at all. My guess you accidently edited the code in a bad way.
(thats the same code the every guestbook in every application I sell uses including ASPGuest which gets downloaded for free about 50 times a day)
No one has ever said it acted funny.
I would do a default installation with the original code somewhere and see if the problem occurs. If it does I can take a look.
In the meantime I wouldn't be running that as it is probably using up massive processor time because of whatever is wrong with it.
cwilliams38454.954212963, I am a little confused here. I am in the process of understand how this all works, mainly the email portions as I am running this through a home server (Windows XP). I have tried test emails, but they are not going threw. I ran the server_info.asp and it is telling me that I do have CDONTS installed, version 2.8. Then I tried running, the test_mailer_component.asp. This page is telling me it is not installed. This process lead me to start looking at my components for my IIS. Everything appears to be there.
Any ideas, where I should go next. It appears the CDONTS code is in every page that it needs to be in, and it appears that I have it installed, but there is a disconnect between the two..
, I am also getting the "Unspecified Error" message. I just transferred my site to IIS 5.0 and I get that error now. However it does not happen everytime. I can click on a page and it opens fine and then I hit refresh in the browser and I get the "Unspecified Error" message. What could be causing this?
, Hi,
We use ASP Protect 6.0 and the database is SQL Server. Our hosting company is charging a lot for daily and weekly backups for everything. Which directories/folders do we need to backup daily and weekly incase something happenes to the site and we need to restore and get the password-protected are that works with ASP Protect to get working.

, Hi,
I am investigating the possibility of purchasing above script having spent some hours trying to integrate various free banner rotators into my Invision portal.
What attracts me to your script is that it has 6 ways to call banners. I am an inexperienced webmaster with only a smatterring of knowledge about ASP. Will ASP Banner be able to integrate with my portal?
Many thanks

, Additional Information.
A set of these variables get created for every user that logs in to your site.
For performance and memory conservation reasons some of them can be turned off and are optional.
If you look in the "check_user_inc.asp" file or the "check_admin_inc.asp" file you will see a section of code like this
' Start of optional session variables to be set
' Recommended that you remark out any of the session variables below that you don't really need to use
' This will save a lot of server resource because every user logged in has a set of these
' I added some code here to not create these if they are empty
If CmdCheckUser("First_Name") <> "" Then Session("First_Name") = CmdCheckUser("First_Name")
If CmdCheckUser("Last_Name") <> "" Then Session("Last_Name") = CmdCheckUser("Last_Name")
If CmdCheckUser("Company_Name") <> "" Then Session("Company_Name") = CmdCheckUser("Company_Name")
If CmdCheckUser("Email") <> "" Then Session("Email") = CmdCheckUser("Email")
If CmdCheckUser("Address") <> "" Then Session("Address") = CmdCheckUser("Address")
If CmdCheckUser("City") <> "" Then Session("City") = CmdCheckUser("City")
If CmdCheckUser("State_Province") <> "" Then Session("State_Province") = CmdCheckUser("State_Province")
If CmdCheckUser("Zipcode_Postal_Code") <> "" Then Session("Zipcode_Postal_Code") = CmdCheckUser("Zipcode_Postal_Code")
If CmdCheckUser("Phone") <> "" Then Session("Phone") = CmdCheckUser("Phone")
If CmdCheckUser("Custom1") <> "" Then Session("Custom1") = CmdCheckUser("Custom1")
If CmdCheckUser("Custom2") <> "" Then Session("Custom2") = CmdCheckUser("Custom2")
If CmdCheckUser("Custom3") <> "" Then Session("Custom3") = CmdCheckUser("Custom3")
If CmdCheckUser("Custom4") <> "" Then Session("Custom4") = CmdCheckUser("Custom4")
If CmdCheckUser("Custom5") <> "" Then Session("Custom5") = CmdCheckUser("Custom5")
If CmdCheckUser("Custom6") <> "" Then Session("Custom6") = CmdCheckUser("Custom6")
' End of optional session variables to be set
If you do not need a particular variable to be set as a session variable simply comment that line out with single quote.
If you have an extremely busy site with a lot of users this is a good idea. If not, you probably don't need to bother doing this. I added some code in there so they will not be created if they are empty and that alone helps out a lot.
cwilliams38419.5459606481, I am trying to understand how/where the "Log_Off_URL" variable is set
I have searched the forum for that string but don't get real good
results...I think the _'s are replaced with spaces for the search.
I am learning how to use the groups options and have modified some of
your example access level examples to test out group stuff. At the
bottom of the default.asp page I see a "LOG OFF SYSTEM" link that is
filled with a link stored in the Log_Off_URL variable and it looks
like that is being set back to the default.asp file somehow. So when
I click on it it just refreshes the page and appears to keep my user
logged in.
Seems like it should log out the user and redisplay the
login page. Is there a way to log totally off and have the login page
show up again? I am sure I am missing some obvious thing
somewhere...I can see where the Log_Off_URL variable is being created
in the config_inc.asp file but did'nt know where to look for more
info. Can you point me to an existing forum link?
Thanks!!
, How about the option to add an unsubscribe link to the end of newsletters that are sent out and a function that will uncheck the newletter field for that record if they click on the link?
Please???
Thanks,
Michelle , I am running into problems with the import function. I have 25 photos loaded into the import folder. The page see all of the photos. But after I click on the import process it takes me Picture Manager with no pictures loaded. I have hit the refresh button, but there is nothing there. dr_bones38394.676412037,
Is it possible to change the currency for

, Have you thought about language file so users dont have to go into the code to put it in their language??
, really all depends on the sql connection string you are using and the names of your sql user you are using...
you really havent described very much..
I'd double check all of it.. something is wrong
cwilliams38325.8892824074, you have to do it like I show above... your not specifying the field name to be searched in the instr function so what you just showed me will not do anything
You also should not have the > 0 stuff in the function because it is testing the result of the function.
You have to do it just like I showed , Aggh.. I put passwords instead of password. Sorry to have bothered you, works fine now. , that is good news... good guess on my part I guess
anyway, try this for your latest issue.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=340&KW =%2D1, Hi, I have not gotten anything from you about it.

, and the permissions, how exactly were they set ?
I find a lot of customers think they are setting permissions correctly when they really are not. That's why I wrote that long article on the subject.
As you probably know a data connection is a very low level thing. It is the foundation of any ASP application that communicates with a database. Unfortunatly it sometimes takes a while to get the hang of setting them up without issue.
Everything must be perfect.. the ODBC drivers must be up to date, folder permission are critical, sometimes you must use a new version of the access database.. etc etc etc The errors and things that happen when all these things are not perfect and not helpful as you have found out.
I would suggest you download and get ASPTest from CJWSoft running before you go any further. It is designed to be as simple as possible and helps get a hang of the database setup process.
, when did you puchase/download the application? you may have old code., I have just purchased ASP v7 and loaded. Followed instructions. Obtained codes not prob. Get to single field login screen, enter password and following page appears:
Method Not Allowed
The requested method POST is not allowed for the URL /temp/aspprotect/password_admin/get_me_in.asp.
Added folder aspprotect under (temp web) folder - temp, but also tried under root folder of web site.
Still no luck.
Apache/1.3.27 Server at www.didac.co.uk Port 80, ok,
when you say "we have set up to use the Subscription services exclusively for all new members "
I am sorry to have to ask this again but what does that mean exactly ?
how was that accomplished ?
The reason I say this is because when a subscription is created by a user through the normal channels.. meaning they went to the paypal subscription directory and either started a new account or found their old one to start a subscription with.. either way the PayPal Subscripber ID that paypal assigns is added to the database for that user and the expiration date is set to null.
Now, that being said the function that sends expiration emails to users will NEVER send an expiration to a user that has info in their PayPal Subscriber Field in the database. I just double checked that.
So that is where I am confused ? How did all these users get set up to use subscriptions and not have the PayPal Subscriber ID field popluated in the database ?
Seems to me the only way this could happen is if you set some stuff up manually and the PayPal Subscriber ID for each user never got put in the database. That and the expiration date didnt get set to null.
Again, I am sorry to keep asking this but it just seems to me that something else must be going on that I am not clear on regarding how you upgraded these people to use subscriptions.
In the end I think the answer may be to manually make sure each old user now using subscriptions has their PayPal Subscription ID set in the database as well as their expiration date from before set to null.
, Why all the pages at the directory .../password_admin/ are very slow to open online?
vaghelis38300.5280208333, It's probably something I could do for you as a custom project if you are interesting in paying to have that work done, but it is probably not something that will be added to this version of aspbanner as it is in my opinion a feature more suited for a more expensive software package.
It is also difficult to get ASP code to do things on it's own. Scheduling something to run on the server or some other clever scenario is necessary and that usually means it would be unique to each persons setup.
http://www.cjwsoft.com/custom_work.asp
, thanks.. it was not taken as a complaint.
I just wanted to explain
When you said you tried using the web version of sql manager. Did you use the microsoft one I link to here "just curious"
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo127-1.htm
, I have been able to successfully edit some text colors, but there seems to be one page that wont change the text color. Inside the users/ folder, the login.asp page, i cant seem to change the text color from ffffff to 000000 so it can be read on my background color. Every page in the script is correct but this one.
Thanks.
, There is no way I'm going to spend hundreds of dollars for a thumbnail creation program. Mine is a family web site and all out of my pocket.
Is there any free products that work with Gallery that will create the thumbnails? If not can I create them on my own and link them to the pics? There are tons of Perl based freebies out there.
Steve
, Please Note : ASPProtect v7.x has a new feature called groups that is much more powerful than access levels. Access Levels were left in the product primarily for existing customers that upgrade to the new version so they do not need to make a lot of changes to their site if they were using Access Levels.
More On Access Levels
Again, Examples of managing Access Levels are provided in the "multiple_access_levels" folder included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code of the ASP pages in that folder with a text editor to see the working code.
Access Levels and how they work can be re-coded to work in many different ways. However, you have to be a good ASP developer to make changes to it. Here is some information on how they work by default.
In the "check_user_inc.asp" that comes in the root of this system Access Levels work as follows.
Level 1 has Access to - Level 1
Level 2 has Access to - Level 1,2
Level 3 has Access to - Level 1,2,3
Level 4 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4
Level 5 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5
Level 6 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6
Level 7 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7
Level 8 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN
Here is some additional info..
If the access levels are too restrictive you can ignore them all together and create your own totally custom solutions.
Here is a quick rundown of some of the things you can do.
Ok... so if you want to be really specific about what each user can see and
can't .. here's an example of what you can do
Don't use the access levels before the include file..
Don't worry about what you set a user to in the admin area since the access levels won't be used.
Do something like this..
Every time a user logs in session variables are set that you can access at
any time.. thus allowing you to know who they are.
So you could do something like this...
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
<%
If Session("USERNAME") = "bob1267" or Session("USERNAME") = "carl45" or Session("ADMIN") = "True" Then
Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "Yes"
Else
Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "No"
Response.Redirect(Request.ServerVariables("script_name"))
End If
%>
The following URL explains what Redirects are.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/redirects.asp
That would in effect create totally custom access levels.. but you would
have to do it manually for each user.
You can also do things like this after a person logs in
Show custom html to any specific user based on either their username or
access level ... like so
say there was a menu and a certain link should only show up to username
"paully67"
you could do something like this
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE></TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY>
<br>
<a href="main.asp">Home Page</a>
<%
If Session("USERNAME") = "paully67" Then
%>
<br>
<a href="paullys_page.asp">Pauls Stats Page</a>
<%
End If
%>
<br>
<a href="links.asp">Links Page</a>
</BODY>
</HTML>
Or you can show custom HTML or links based on Access Levels or any other info.
You can do just about anything with if-then statements and
using the built in vbscript functions..
Hopefully this info will help to give you some ideas...
Bottom line is you have to do some work within your site to make the Access Level system really come alive.
cwilliams38403.6781481481, If you makes you feel any better the photo gallery app runs awesome off an access database. Mostly because all of the picture work is done in the filesystem, not the database. The load on the database is relatively low even with a lot of users., The count is in the album area where the small pictures and description of album. Viewed 1 time(s) This count never changes.
Thanks
John
, On second thought guys, it would must easier to change the code using modulus as follows:
<% If PicIndex mod 6 = 0 THEN %>
</tr>
<tr>
<% End If %>
This will end each row and create a new row after each 6th picture. It'll be must easier code to work with and change. This code must be placed in the PicIndex For Loop.
If you have any questions, JPortnoy@Checkernet.com
, I have run into the same problem with streaming pdfs to the browser
using the stream_download.asp example, but only when selecting the
option to open the file directly into the browser (after it's streamed
back) as opposed to saving it and then opening it (which works fine in
Firefox and IE). Then I ran across this Microsoft support article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q2 97822
It got me thinking that maybe a header needs to be included in
stream_download.asp that tells the browser to specifically cache the
file. Adding this suddenly got everything working
Response.CacheControl = "Public"
right after this line in the code
Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"
My asp is limited, but this seems to work at least for pdf
documents. Can someone confirm this? The other question I
have is if this is a solution, should the CacheControl be set to public
or private. Not sure on what the implications are.
Firefox by the way seems to open or save and open the file without
this, so you are right that the implementation between the browsers is
certainly different.
