Coughlin tells Giants to stop griping (AP)
After spending a maddening season listening to Jeremy Shockey, Tiki Barber, Plaxico Burress and others complain, New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin isn't going to take it anymore. LB Armstead retires as a Giant (AP)
Five-time Pro Bowl linebacker Jessie Armstead signed a one-day contract Wednesday so he could retire as a New York Giant. "I am thankful the organization gave me the opportunity," Armstead said. "My blood, I always had New York Giants in it." To make room for Armstead on the roster, the Giants placed starting fullback Jim Finn on season-ending injured reserve.

Jaguars re-sign DE McCray (AP)
Defensive end Bobby McCray re-signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday. McCray, a 2004 seventh-round draft pick from Florida, had previously refused to sign the one-year offer and had been skipping minicamp. Because McCray was not under contract, the team couldn't fine him. McCray is entering his fourth season with the Jaguars.

Panthers preparing without DT Jenkins (AP)
Every player from the Carolina Panthers has been sweating through three weeks of voluntary workouts -- except Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kris Jenkins. James' girlfriend gives birth Thursday (AP)
LeBron James' girlfriend, Savannah Brinson, gave birth early Thursday to the couple's second son, Bryce Maximus James. Keith Estabrook, a spokesman for the Cleveland Cavaliers star and his family, said Bryce weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces and was 21 inches long. He was born at 12:51 a.m. at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital, near his father's hometown of Akron.

Wolves, Rockets to swap James, Howard (AP)
The Minnesota Timberwolves have reached an agreement to trade point guard Mike James to the Houston Rockets for power forward Juwan Howard. James' agent, Bill Duffy, said Wednesday night the teams have been working for several weeks on a deal to move James after one disappointing season in Minnesota.

NBA finals ratings decline continues (AP)
The NBA finals continue to draw far fewer viewers than last year. The San Antonio Spurs' 75-72 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night received a 6.4 national rating and an 11 share on ABC, down 20 percent from the 8.0/14 for last year's Game 3 between the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat.

Report: Flames to hire Keenan as coach (AP)
The Calgary Flames have hired Mike Keenan as their new head coach, The Canadian Press reported Wednesday night. The Canadian Press, citing unidentified sources, reported an official announcement is expected Thursday or Friday. Current Flames coach Jim Playfair will remain with the organization. The Flames went 43-25-10, finishing eighth in the Western Conference last season under Playfair.
