Packers LB Barnett arrested for battery (AP)
Green Bay Packers linebacker Nick Barnett was arrested early Sunday after a disturbance at a nightclub. Police said in a statement that Barnett was taken into custody for battery after allegedly being involved in a physical altercation about 2 a.m. at the Wet. He was taken to Outagamie County Jail in Appleton and released within an hour after posting a $500 cash bond.

Favre shut down with sore shoulder (AP)
Brett Favre was held out of the Green Bay Packers' practices Wednesday and Thursday because of a sore right shoulder. "I probably could practice, but it really don't make a lot of sense to go out and make it any worse," Favre said. "I think it's probably just tendinitis or something like that." Coach Mike McCarthy said the medical staff doesn't consider the injury serious.

'Skins' Landry takes paintball to groin (AP)
A paintball shot in the groin left rookie LaRon Landry unable to practice when the Washington Redskins opened their minicamp Friday. The No. 6 overall pick in this year's draft was injured during a team-building outing Wednesday, when coach Joe Gibbs allowed the players to leave early at the end of the voluntary spring workouts.

Union complaints end Raiders' training (AP)
The Oakland Raiders canceled the final week of their offseason training program Friday after complaints from the NFL players' union about the intensity of the practices. In a brief statement, coach Lane Kiffin said the players' union believes the Raiders' offseason program violated league rules on practice standards.

Lewis, a wide receiver and kick returner, was known as "Beer Man" because he drove a beer truck before getting a tryout with his hometown team and making the roster in 2001 at age 29.

Kobe Bryant implied again that he wants to be traded, writing on his Web site that "the Lakers and me just have two different visions for the future." The statement posted Sunday on kb24.com was the latest in a recent series of sometimes inconsistent comments from Bryant about whether he wants to remain in Los Angeles.

Exiting the arena with the NBA finals MVP trophy in one arm and his actress fiancee on the other, Tony Parker looked like someone who should be a megastar in America. But Parker plays for the San Antonio Spurs, a champion everywhere but in the TV ratings. The Spurs were too good for Cleveland, but still considered too boring to be appreciated.

The Detroit Pistons traded guard Carlos Delfino to the Toronto Raptors on Friday for second-round draft picks in 2009 and 2010. Delfino, from Argentina, was drafted 25th overall by Detroit in 2003, and averaged 4.4 points, 2.4 rebounds...

50 Cent won't testify at Iverson's trial (AP)
Rapper 50 Cent will not have to testify at NBA star Allen Iverson's assault trial this month, a federal judge ruled Friday. The lawsuit stems from a fight between members of Iverson's security detail and patrons at a downtown Washington bar in 2005. Two customers sued, accusing Iverson of hitting one of them with a bottle and charging the entourage with assault, conspiracy and other charges.

Reports: Senators fire GM Muckler (AP)
John Muckler was keeping quiet Sunday amid reports he'd been fired as the Ottawa Senators' general manager. "I cannot talk at this time," Muckler said when reached by The Canadian Press. A Senators spokesman also refused to comment. Sun Media reported Saturday night that the 73-year-old Muckler had been fired, with an announcement of his departure expected as early as Sunday.

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired left wing Sergei Samsonov from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Jassen Cullimore and left wing Tony Salmelainen. Samsonov appeared in 63 games for the Canadiens last season, recording nine goals and 17 assists. The 28-year-old Samsonov is a veteran of nine NHL seasons, having also played for Boston and Edmonton.

General manager Peter Chiarelli announced Friday, June 15, 2007, that Lewis will be relieved as head coach and reassigned to another position in the organization.

The rebuilding Boston Bruins flirted with making the playoffs last season before they collapsed in the final 12 games. That inconsistency helped bring an end to Dave Lewis' tenure as Boston's coach after just one season. General manager Peter Chiarelli announced Friday that Lewis will be reassigned to another position in the organization.
