Former Chicago Bears tackle Tank Johnson will not face charges connected to his arrest in this Phoenix suburb on suspicion of drunken driving. Police said Thursday the case would be closed with no request for prosecution. Gilbert police spokesman Sgt. Andrew Duncan declined to elaborate. "I am not surprised by this decision, but I am relieved," Johnson said in a statement released by his lawyer.

Falcons sign Japanese WR Kinoshita (AP)
The Atlanta Falcons went long-distance shopping when adding a wide receiver Thursday. The Falcons signed Noriaki Kinoshita, a native of Osaka, Japan who played the last three years with the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europa. Kinoshita, 5-foot-10 and 179 pounds, ranked fourth in the league in kickoff returns with 532 yards and added 21 catches for 308 yards and two touchdowns.

Raiders RB Rhodes suspended 4 games (AP)
Oakland Raiders running back Dominic Rhodes was suspended Tuesday for the first four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The league does not disclose reasons for substance abuse suspensions, but Rhodes pleaded guilty in the offseason to reckless driving charges in Indiana after prosecutors agreed to drop drunken driving charges against him.

Bucs' Cox gets 4-game suspension (AP)
Special teams ace Torrie Cox of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was suspended Tuesday by the NFL for the first four games of the regular season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. Cox's suspension begins Aug. 31. The defensive back and Pro Bowl special-teams alternate can participate in all preseason practices and games.

Bears sign 1st-round pick Olsen (AP)
The Chicago Bears signed first-round draft pick Greg Olsen to a five-year contract on Tuesday, making the tight end from Miami the first player taken in the first two rounds to agree on a deal. Nashville group makes bid for Predators (AP)
A group of Nashville businessmen has submitted a bid to buy the Predators, joining at least two other potential buyers vying for the NHL team. The group, led by David Freeman, chief executive officer of 36 Venture Capital, and Herb Fritch, CEO of HealthSpring Inc., has not said how much it has bid in an attempt to try to keep the team in Nashville.

Jocelyn Thibault signed a one-year contract with the Sabres on Thursday, as Buffalo bolstered its backup goaltending depth through free agency. Thibault is a 13-year NHL veteran who spent the past two seasons as a backup in Pittsburgh. He had a 7-8-2 record and 2.83 goals-against average in 22 games with the Penguins last season.

Devils sign Weekes to back up Brodeur (AP)
The New Jersey Devils signed Kevin Weekes on Thursday to back up record-setting goaltender Martin Brodeur. Weekes, 32, spent the last two seasons with the New York Rangers, appearing in 46 games and compiling a record of 18-20-5. Weekes is 96-156-38 with 19 shutouts in nine NHL seasons with Florida, Vancouver, the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay, Carolina and the Rangers.

Rangers agree to terms with F Prucha (AP)
Forward Petr Prucha agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the New York Rangers, with whom he has scored 52 goals in two seasons. Prucha, a 24-year-old native of the Czech Republic, will earn $1.6 million each of the next two seasons. He became a restricted free agent after posting 22 goals and 18 assists for the Rangers in 79 games last season.

Avalanche forward Marek Svatos signed a one-year deal with Colorado on Thursday.
